Who was Clara Bow?
Clara Bow was a silent film actress in the 1920s who got her big break in Elmer Clifton’s “Down to the Sea in Ships.” She was just 16 years old.
The film tells the love story of a whaling voyage aboard the Charles Morgan. It was filmed in New Bedford and premiered at the Olympia Theater in New Bedford in 1923.
Numerous original images of Clara Bow and her cast mates on set in New Bedford are found in our collections.
Clara Bow is also one of Taylor Swift’s newest songs off her new album Dead Poets Department

@ulfson279 What do you mean it doesn't matter? It matters a lot. Had it not been for Taylor's song, nobody would've been nearly as interested in Clara Bow as they are now. The song generated a lot of buzz around her name, and to a lesser effect, Stevie Nicks, since she's also mentioned in the song
