  • "It" is a 1927 silent romantic comedy film which tells the story of a shop girl who sets her sights on the handsome and wealthy boss of the department store where she works. Because of this film, actress Clara Bow became a major star of the highest magnitude, and as result, became known as the "It girl".

I absolutely adore Clara and her acting! As one article on her said - she makes all the other actors look like wooden dolls compared to her and her absolute skill and raw talent for acting! Her face is incredibly expressive and overall, I think all of us can agree she's got 'IT'!

  • @thelegendaryblackbeastofaa115

Wow, I can see why Clara Bow became such a hit. Her acting is more lively and natural than a lot of more famous people decades after her, and all this without even saying a word (that the audience hears)!
it's also really cool to see the real people of the 1920s actually in motion. Yeah I know this is a movie, not quite reality. But most of them look so much more like average people than the Hollywood actors of today.

It was more common than you think. People (the church, media, etc.) just didn't talk about it. You have to remember that men died in WW1 and poverty and drunkeness lead to suicide, etc. and many homes were fatherless, especially when the depression hit. The Good Ole Days weren't so good.

Just like Monroe years later the camera loved Clara. She was still pert and trim in 1927 and in her element here - silent films. She considered microphones distracting and limiting - and certainly her talkies lacked the vitality of this piece. Towards the end of her life she was diagnosed - rather loosely - with schizophrenia although her condition sounds today more like depression and agoraphobia. She was a real cutie exuding humour and warmth in a natural way that no other actress could or can equal.

The musical score by Carl Davis is fabulous: A combination of themes from classical, jazz, and popular music, wonderful melodies to express emotions, and the music flowing naturally between scenes.

What a terrific movie! Whenever I watch silent films, they are not very engaging. But with the right music, the emotion and ideas really do come through.

ZOOMLENS - Wikipedia: An early use of the zoom lens in cinema can be seen in the opening shot of the movie "It" starring Clara Bow, from 1927.
    (the zoom-shot starts at 2:00)

Yes, but probably made in the optical printer and not by a zoom lens

This is in my top ten films of all time. I’ll never tire of Clara in this sparkling romantic comedy. And this version is the best, the one with Carl Davis’s finest score, which sounds like it was composed for the film in 1927.

She was so beautiful ,a one off ,her career was so short and she virtually put herself into complete exile ,and isolation .She was an insomniac as well Some of her good films were made in Germany ,but she is just so beautiful and having the 20,s look the fashion and style has never been surpassed .

21:20 I love how the camera zooms in to the object of her affection! Those carnival rides were so scandalous! I can't imagine
I have always heard about Clara Bow but never saw her movies until today. She reminds me a whole lot like of Sally Field!

Love the musical scoring by Carl Davis. Too bad it hasn't been transferred to a musical stage adaptation. One has been done but unfortunately not to successful.
