I was shocked by how feminist this film is for the era (the title is so misleading!) I love how the central relationship is the friendship between the two women, and how they have each other’s backs even after they both have male partners. And the two men like their strength and don’t expect them to change. Love it so much.

@idklol google plus sorry to burst your bubble , but men and women being homosexual has nothing to do with beautiful men/women on screen. Sexual orientation is a complex process , which is quite involuntary : it involves certain areas of brain which can't be quite changed by how you perceive 'beauty'. Say , if a straight man finds out that his partner is secretly a man , it will still be a deal breaker. They can still care for each other , but no sexuality involved. It's nothing satanic , God creates us in all forms , it's also His wish that it happens. Wait , why must a woman show boobs to prove she is a woman ? What if , she has undergone a mastectomy ?!

I found an interview Russell gave one time and they asked her about the making of this film. If I remember right, she said she had a blast working with Monroe and making this movie. (This was earlier in Monroe’s career before she started really suffering from mental illness and got her reputation as “difficult”.) Russell expressed that she knew Monroe’s raw star power would most likely overshadow her so she embraced the role from a standpoint of doing her best to have fun and give Dorothy personality. She thought Monroe seemed impressionable, but beautiful and very sweet. Because Monroe was usually subject to others projections onto her, Russell said that she and her got along very well since Russell always just tried to be her co-star and friend, never a rival. It probably helped that by the time GPB was created, Russell already had a film legacy and was known for being a very kind person. I think their amiable off screen dynamic really shone through in this movie, and from what I understand, Russell was one of the few co-stars Monroe ever spoke highly of afterward. I recommend the interview if you can find it!

Jane tried to get Monroe to convert to Christianity during the filming of this movie, Monroe said so herself. In 2003 Jane also gave an interview where she described herself as being, "mean-spirited, right-wing, narrow-minded, conservative Christian bigot, but not a racist."
I'm not surprised though given the era she grew up in.

@@thisgirl3062 In a few interviews (I think from the 90's) Jane Russell said (and I am paraphrasing as I have watched the interviews months ago) that she invited Marylin to her Hollywood prayer meeting group because she felt like it would be good for Marilyn to feel like she belongs to a community, as she seemed like a lost child, and said that her intent wasn't to convert Marilyn, but to bond with her over something, and Marilyn assumed that her intent was to convert her (probably a matter of miscommunication between the two ladies). As a non-religious person, I can see how Marilyn could have taken it the wrong way, and based on the way Jane Russell was talking, she seemed like a genuine and caring person and friend who just happens to be religious and spiritual and found joy and community in religious activities. I don't know much about Jane Russell outside of the movies she was in, but I think the fact that she was so critical of herself in the statement you mentioned is pretty badass. :)

Also that argument Marilyn gives at the end of the film assumes that a woman will keep her youthful beauty for decades. When she hits 35 or 40, depending on her life style, she'll start to develop wrinkles and lose her "firmness." She will definitely NOT look like she did as 25. The rich and shameless will have money managers increasing their accounts and they will get richer as they age. Yes, he will age too, possibly get a pot belly, wrinkles around the eyes, lose his youth. So in both cases, the physical traits will leave them. He'll still bring financial security to the table. Well that's stereotypical Hollywood for you, an actor could get any roles he wants even when he turned 30 or 40 but an actress could face an early retirement once she reached 30, because the industry is always harsh towards female star who over 30. You could be one of the most bankable female star during your 20s but soon became flop when you turned 30. Roles that available for actresses over 30 are usually the mother or elderly women, if you're lucky enough to look young for your age you're still able to get roles but most of them are just secondary characters or even just recurring ones, barely anyone want to cast a 30-year-old-and-so actress for the main role. I believe there've been some changes in the last decades but it's still actually happening everywhere even today in 2022.

She could do the stereotypical archetype of the dizzy blonde bombshell in her sleep, and one immediately sees how she loved to do it, but it just wasn't enough of a challenge for her. She was hysterically funny as a comedienne. Her next film "The Misfits" was he biggest challenge. But, that's another story. This flick was her masterpiece if you don't count "Some Like It HOT!". At first this movie had me think of Dorothy wanting a man for love, and she got quality whilst Lorelei had the quantity. But as I continued to watch I began to think of their friendship and how Dorothy chose Lorelei, no matter what she did, what she said, and what she had done, she stuck by her friend. She never even talked poorly behind her back even to the man she began to fall for. Lorelei believed her, they helped each other, became partners and crime and still managed to stay classy. They both knew their wittiness, cleverness, worth and status. but most importantly they always had each other

    TIPS FOR VIEWERS...
When a song comes on, it will be mute. Pain in the arse, but you can pause at that moment, open another window and watch the song on YT from another poster. Then, continue to watch and enjoy.
    FUN FACT!
The scene with Jane Russell and the olympians. Apparently, at the point where she is low down and a man accidentally knocks her into the water; it was not staged. The fact that Jane jumped out of the water so quick and carried on meant that the whole thing was kept for the film in one take! How professional, Jane!! :)
