Even though you talk about not being born here, you’ve already captured so much of what makes Pittsburgh so unique, as if you’ve been here all of your life. I see it as the hardships that residents face with keeping the city’s identity without forgetting the past or neglecting the future.
Pittsburgh has always seemed to keep an okay balance of this, and I miss it so much. I’m glad Nine Mile Run was added, we used to hike to duck hollow through there.
    Thank you, Dean. Amazing work.

I was giggling with delight to see you moving so well in the opening scenes, not to mention serving a tennis ball! I'm sure you can still feel the remnants of your injury somehow, and I hope you're not masking any great pain here, but I'm so grateful for your recovery thus far.
This episode was a stunning and distinctly Pittsburghian portrait of my favorite park in the city. You have a knack for seeing and appreciating the little details we all miss as we rush through life, and then setting them to a wondrous soundtrack. Your documentary style mirrors the mission of Frick as Helen originally conceived it-- something that makes us slow down, observe, appreciate, and play. Thank you for your keen eye and big heart as you continue making these cherished vignettes of our city!
If I may suggest an episode, please have a look at Friendship when you get a chance. It was my first real home in Pittsburgh and I adored the neighborhood (and made tons of contacts there that I could hook you up with). From the plentiful (and gorgeous) street cats to the stunning asphalt art, the quirky and fun-to-film Octopus garden, the interesting Quaker origins, the amazing and lush alleyway display of native Pennsylvania plants on Fredericka, the historic Friendship Avenue Church from 1908, the world-renowned art destination that is the Pittsburgh Glass Center, or even one of the nation's first chiropractic schools (I'm good friends with the owner), there is SO much to see and film here. The story of how those huge Victorian homes came to be and then evolved into what they are today is fascinating, not to mention the scandalous history of the founding families there. Trust me, it won't disappoint you. Check out the website for the Friendship Community Group and see if it piques your interest.

Sooo glad you're back, Bean Dog! What a wonderful video! It's hard to imagine having enough money to be able to give the children of Pittsburgh a park as your birthday present, and it says a lot about Helen Clay Frick that she did so as her gift, coming out as a debutante. We have such a rich history, and the families of our most powerful industrialists (the ones who sometimes broke the strikes and fought the unions) have also given so much, with libraries, museums, universities, parks, and so much more. It's complicated. The historian David McCollough (who grew up a few blocks from Frick Park) described Pittsburgh as "the indispensable city," and I would add that the city's great parks (Frick, Schenley, Highland) are an indispensable part of the city we love. Welcome back, Dean!

I spent half my childhood there in '50s and even played hooky from school there. There used to be what we called hobo camps back then and I used be amazed at how the cooked their baked beans in the cans and hot dogs..Some of the hobos were quite creative in their camping skills. They never stayed long in one camp and were usually gone by the time park visitors showed up and I always wondered where they went during the days.

Greetings from Ohio! (Dayton) Current residents owe a great deal to the visionaries of the past. Fortunately many of those were successful industrialists who also had the means to create treasures like this and also believed they should be the ones to make it happen. Our parklands contribute so much to the quality of life for generations. There were others across the country . In this community it was people like John Patterson and Edward Deeds. Thanks for putting this together and sharing it.
