Thank you so much for the opportunity to learn the moves and names of each move. For beginners it’s hard for names and fast movements. Blessings to you and your program. 💝🇺🇸🙌🇨🇴💐
I’ve always been told NOT to grip with toes because that lifts your toe mounds and instead push down on the 4 corners of your foot? Isn’t white knuckling with your toes not encouraged because you’re not actually getting that sensation of having your foot fully grounded?
@@CharlieFollows I think it definitely helps balance in the beginning until you learn to connect with your feet more. Perhaps it’s also a style difference, but all my teachers have always urged me to lift my toes during balancing poses to find better connection. When your grip, your big toe mound and ball of foot lift up. So you’re reducing the surface area you have to contact with the ground. When I first learned to surf I also gripped with my toes until I was more experienced and found you have better control with using more foot “real estate” by not gripping. It’s definitely instinctual to grip with your toes but I do believe it’s not the most effective way to improve balance.
I've heard the same too. My husband and I just tried both. He thinks both are good. I prefer the four corners of the foot. Anybody explicitly team grip?
@@KattBon if you watch professional surfers, they don’t grip with their toes. I’m specifically trained in Baptiste and I’m sure it’s different everywhere but to me, you’re sorta cheating yourself out of the experience of improving your balance when you rely on your toes to grip. It’s fine, of course, especially for beginners but i was just surprised to hear someone as advanced as Charlie call for it intentionally.
@ItBeThatWaySometimes For beginners, it's not so much difference between "gripping your toes into the mat" and "pushing the 4 corners of your feet into the mat"😂. If you are more advanced, you automatically adapt your foot position as you can relax more into the pose and the ground. But don't criticize Charlie for explaining it easier for beginners!

Maybe it’s a personal preference but I always find gripping with my toes helps my balance.
