I'm rebuilding my pedal chain after losing nearly everything and I really appreciate these budget reviews.
How did you lose everything?
Well I'm getting rid of a slightly malfunctioning tap tempo chorus/ tap tempo delay.
Carlos A oooh how is the chorus malfunctioning? theres someone on youtube who owns a broken ce-3 that i adore, and im a bit of a chorus obsessive and love the concept of owning some broken choruses that do unique stuff
@Experiment IV the switch takes a couple stomps to turn on. And chorus is my favorite effect.

These affordable pedals are such a godsend for those of us who can’t spend a ton of money. I just got a Caline Sandstorm. A copy of the MI Audio Crunch Box. Great brown sound in that pedal.
Caline is a great brand! I have a Caline 10band eq and it is awesome
Some are. Reverb isnt cheap and the cheap reverbs all suffer from the same issues. The number one being the signal wont dry out; with the mix bottomed out, the effect saturation remains too high.
@@springbloom5940 another issue is that chasing that drip and Belt ane Brick sound, the algorithm used can give a horrible clicking sound on certain high mileage frequencies, this isn't as noticeable with guitar tones but screams with other gear, I use pedals for sound design and it's an issue finding a good low cost reverb. I'm loving that Snakebite. Will it click? I hope not. If you've experienced what I mean, avoid the Behringer silver multi reverb.
As a non gigging player, it's always been difficult for me to justify spending big bucks on pedals. With the arrival of all these affordable pedals on the market, it makes it nice for guys like me to have some nice effects. I got the Mosky about a year ago and I'm pretty happy with it!👍😎🎸🎶
Thank you for this series, Ryan. You're really doing a good service for the community. 👍
Thanks Ryan for the affordable Reverb shootout! The Caline Snake Bite was the clear winner - Best tone, and versatility. I was surprised how disappointing the Mugig Reverburg was, as their Echoose delay was great in the previous video shootout. Just goes to show how valuable your shootouts are, I enjoy how much fun you have diming the knobs and going full stupid. That's often more revealing than one might think.
Thank you so much! I got a gift card from my boss for $50 and was thinking it would just chip away at the price of a reverb pedal. This video was a life saver! You saved me a ton of time and money. Keep up the good work.
I just got my Caline Snake Bite and I absolutely love it! Thank you for making this video!
Thank you for doing afford a board! You have been a huge help over the years!
You're like a mad scientist with pedals. Love it!!!
That was fun! And I agree with your assessment. The Snake Bite was miles ahead of the rest, but the Azor and Mosky sounded fine for surf and general non-ambient use. And I'll have to try the stacking thing. Never would have thought that two or more reverbs wouldn't sound awful!
Thank you for making this video!! I've been waiting for this.
Caline - CP-26 Knobs are
RES : RESonant
CFR : Center FRequency
LPF : Low Pass Filter
PRD : PRe-Delay
MIX : Blend
DECAY : Decay.
is this a legit true Bypass?
Great review. I enjoyed your review of the TC Electronics Drip last year and my kids got me one for Xmas. I'm really enjoying it 👍
I've had the mosky on my board for quite a while. I really enjoy it!
The review I've been waiting for!!
these affordaboard videos are really interesting and helpful - thanks!
Another great video Ryan! I really enjoy your reviews, I feel like you play really appropriate to the feel of the pedal you're demoing. For what it's worth, I really like the Azor and the Caline pedals. I think they both sounded great and I kind of can't believe how inexpensive the Azor is. Nice finds!
Love this man funny sense of humor, i speak spanish and i really enjoy when he says achus instead of akus
Thanks for making this video! I'm not a professional player and here in Brazil taxes make everything so expensive, that these pedal became a great option for me. I came here because I saw the eno for a great prize, but actually I might go with the Azor.
I said it in chat, but for the comments thread, cfr = center frequency and res = resonance. These two interact. You're dialing in a mid-range resonance.
Beat me to it.
Caline has made a few decent pedals in the past. There was a delay and a flanger that was decent as well for the price, but I forget the names.
Thanks for the budget pedal boards as someone that's new coming in to pedals I just wanted some to play for home use no recording or live playing haha so super appreciate these!
Oh, I'm in love with that Caline now. Wow.
The mugig “drip” sounds like just a single sound clip that is played whenever a note is tracked. Also the shimmer is one of the worst sounds I’ve ever heard from a pedal. I might buy it
I like the way your mind works ;)
Wait u gonna buy it wow
I feel like if you stack the shimmer under a nice lush reverb like the snake bite it would sound pretty nice
😂😂👌🏻
I would for that shimmer, as it gives a great hold, but he did say the wet fx are quiet and he was going to boost them post production, which could mean buying yet another cheap and disappointing reverb lol. I've had a few. The Azure is a winner for a one trick pony in a chain or a front of chain reverb. I like the Snake bite for a final reverb, at the end of multiple chains to tie them all in, shame it's not stereo. I did just buy the Donner Island Delay and Vintaverb, for their fancy shimmer and modulated fx, they're cheap and nasty in places, but they're stereo and at the price you can get twisted sounds more readily than an ON, EHX or Earthquaker.
I was looking for a cheap reverb for my own afford a board and really appreciate your video. I went for the Azor over the Mosky because I found it for $22 on Amazon and it does the trick. Thanks!
The Azor actually has more echo than reverb than the Mosky reverb on the higher settings. The Mosky is thus more faithful to real spring reverb. The Caline definitely has a more lush and warm sound.
I liked the Mosky too! Sounded more like my old Twin Reverb : )
looks like the reverberg needs to get sent back to the drawingberg! yeesh
I have the Eno as my always-on reverb. With pedals there can be a tendency to go for the pedal with the most buttons because you think you're getting more features for your money. And I guess if you're buying online, until you try it you don't know which sounds you'll like. But if you're never going to adjust most of the settings, simplicity has its merits.
So glad I found your channel. Getting back into guitar after a decade of not playing. Playing on a budget since I have three kids now and can't afford $500 pedals on a whim. Used to play a frankentele (Squier Tele with Twang King pups and Bigsby) and a 59 Bassman reissue amp.
Going for budget surf and rockabilly and you are helping so much. Already got a Kramer Focus HSS strat and Bugera V5 amp. Now to pickup some spring reverb, slapback echo, compressor, and overdrive.
Got my 10 year old a bass for Christmas, do you ever do bass vids?
I was hoping you were gonna make a cheap reverb pedal video you have answered my prayers
I really like calines pedals. I have the tantrum distortion and the blue ocean analog delay. They are both a great value, with a very rugged design
Ryan, Thanks for demo...bought a Snakebite... Would love to see you do some DIY build it yourself pedals there are many out there between the range of 22 and about forty bucks and a even have one that even has the Belton brick at that same price of 40... This could probably bring you a new viewing audience by covering some DIY pedal kits!
Thanks dude. This was a great and useful watch!
I use the Mosky Spring Reverb on my board and enjoy it for what it is...An inexpensive spring reverb that sounds decent...
Good video. Its nice to see other people that love freakishly noisy analog delays as much as me. Now if only people at guitar center would stop looking at me so weird when I try one lol.
Would love to see/hear you play a cigar-box guitar (3 or 4 string) through the "afford-a-board".
BTW, I don't play but love these videos.
The SnakeBite Reverb is superb !! 10/10
I've been using the Mosky spring reverb for about 2 years now. I stack it with my built-in real spring in my amp. When I'm playing Rhythm I use both reverbs. When I go for a lead tone I cut the pedal off and just use a little real spring.
The Eno pedal is cool. When you engage it with the dry wet all the way to the left dry. It boosts the signal and acts like a bright switch. I just noticed it just now after playing around with it.
I've used the Mosky spring review for a while now, love it. Mine when dimed will also self oscillate. Not all of them do though.
Just watched your review of it a few minutes ago and this one a few times. Getting the Mosky tomorrow and binning my Eno, lol
I’ve started ordering your winner. I just got the Echooooose this week. Honestly, it sounds like it’s got a phaser on in the repeats. That said, still kind of cool though...and for $22, no complaints. Love this series!!!
I’ve got that Moskey and it’s pretty solid. It feels a bit like a slap delay that has too much feedback. It’s a cool back up option
Great demo's...I was going to purchase the ENO but Snake Bite seems more versatile for the few extra dollars. Thanks for jammin'.
Ordered the Azor. DOA. I just returned it. I had bought the Azor chorus and loved it. I think I’m gonna order this Snakebite. I have read on it and your review confirmed it.
Yes, finally. Been after a cheap decent reverb that I could use for vocals and guitar.
How did I not see this when it came out? That Caline Snake Bite is already on my Christmas list :) Gotta say I was pretty impressed with that Mosky, especially after seeing them on eBay for around $20
I have the Mosky that I use a lot as a basic reverb sound. I also have the Cuvave Digital Reverb which is kind of different since it has several settings that combine reverb with other effects. The most interesting is one that combines reverb with a Boss Slow Gear type swell effect.
I have that reverb for that setting alone. It's great with a drive pedal before it.
I love the affordaboard and this series
Thank you for making this video! You just inspired me to build my own "Affordaboard".
The mugig actually sounds really cool and different, just not as a typical reverb sound
Videos like this are great, cause if I heard the Mugig in a vacuum I'd just be like "well it's a $30 verb, what do you expect"
exactly.
For me, the best sound is from the Eno Reverb, Hall setting at your 10:55 this is just a simple trail, what a decent reverb needs to do. All the other pedals add tremolo, delay, slapback, or any other things. Thanks for the demo, I know which reverb I'll bought now
You = awesome. I wanted to get a dual reverb delay pedal, but there is no a good one below 100, however i will now grab one of the delays you suggested and one reverb :D
I love that snake bite!
Good that you’re making an affordoboard, I am trying to do aswell. Or a affordocase because I’m making it of minipedals that fit my pedal case. There’s a few good ones I found but for the surf spring reverb I think the affordable ones that are any good are a little rare, but I’m sometimes doing a gamble on cheap stuff, who knows I’ll find something.
Thanks a lot for this excellent post. For info, I had an Azor few months ago and it's a really good deal for the price. A french guitarist.
I love your show. Its the Best, for real😊
Thanks for the post!
subbed because of this video, cheers
L like the way you do your reviews, you have a way of letting the pedal be the star ,letting us here the pedal, your chops are fine.
Nice shirt! 👍😎
awesome sauce. bad ass and knowledgeable. I go for the surf sound too.
always a pleasure thanks
That snakebite pedal sounds gorgeous
Got the pink one for my daughter cuz it was pink and we love it lol.
Fascinating, you adventures into “soft surf” are very fun. The blue one seems to have a “ bubble bath” setting, maybe they should rename it? The combo of the Snake Bite and the chocolate brown one ( being polite) do something for me. I already have the “drip” so I will get a Snake Bite and try it with that.
Love that Cuvave fuzz - all sold out in the UK - kicks ass 👽
Second or third the Mosky. I put synth and guitar through a mixer thence to the mosky. It’s perfect for a broader spectrum sound like a synth, plus only two knobs is a bonus in my book.
love the shirt
You went full Black Angels with that board!
thanks for the shootouts!
I concur
I love the smell of burning solder, some reviews of DIY pedal kits would be great
Agreed! Very curious about DIY kits.
Good post. I'll order the Snake Bite Reverb. Thanks.
I bought the Azor pedal for surfy drip reverb after watching this video (4:44 in). I really like it. Just an observation though, for me it boosts volume when it's switched on (wet) compared to the off (dry) sound. It also seems to add some mid/hi EQ which also makes it a bit louder when it's on. I didn't really notice that in this video but it definitely does for me. This isn't a problem because I leave it on the whole time. But, if you were to add it once in a while (say for different songs) it does seems to boost the volume a bit. Actually, I do have a criticism. I don't understand why a surfy reverb pedal would be brown with an orange light. It should be blue or greenish-blue with a blue or a green light! But great tone and great price. : )
Supposedly they changed the color of the pedal from Brown to Purple.
nice video am thinking of getting the mosky spring
Found the Mosky and a Monoprice Stageright VS overdrive for an even $50 bundle and grabbing both tomorrow. After watching this review before and a return visit or three, you and other reviews sold me on the Mosky.
I bought the Eno ages ago and hated it. I felt it was so bad, I just said fuck it and used my Canyon delay on reverb setting, but to be fair, the Canyon's reverb mode works pretty well. Nicole from Surfrajettes uses one for her reverb too.
Chorus is fine and good, but for a really good time, run a vibrato through a spring reverb. The little blue Kokko Vibrato is the cheapest I've found on Amazon and sounds great.
The Mugig is one you want to keep in the studio because it makes sounds nothing else does. The Caline is the most flexible. The rest are OK spring reverb simulations.
The Caline sounds the best to me, really ambient
Caline pedals are great. They do a whole host of really good cheap pedals.
to me the Azor sounds more like a Slapback Delay... Very fitting for surf rock for sure!
I've never been so enthused about a series before. I'm virtually pedal free using only Switchblade+ and a CS400 and a channel changer.. My Looper died my phone app has a better tuner than the white ones everybody loves. You got me GASsing for a Velcro Ripping fuzz.
JUNIOR - BANDIT (dry)CRATE gt212 (wet)
13:22 surfer glitches black metal
SnakeBite just kicks everything but has some set it and forget it dials. Noon and lets go. Blend is possibly the best dial available on any pedal. SnakeBite is the only player that brought it's game.
The TwinNote Pie and SnakeBite are the only things on my checklist
The mosky is amazing. I've used it live and the only issue is the build quality but what do you expect for a pedal that cost less then 20 bucks.
I can't wait for those Azor pedals to hit the UK! If they ever do!
You can buy them on AliExpress.
I have the Caline Snake Bite Reverb. It's the cheapest pedal on my board. And it's found a new home there permanently. I've tried so many reverb pedals (Boss, Hardwire, Biyang, Polara, TC, EH, etc....)and even a rack mount TC unit. Hated the reverb in all of them with my rig. I can dial in exactly what I want with the Snake Bite. It's made me like/use reverb again.
How would you compare the snake bite and the Biyang tri reverb?
I have the azor ocd clone and a caline TS clone. For the money they're fantastic
The Mugig sounds like a duck lost in a sewer
I like the azore and the purple!
Both pt2399 reverbs. (The chip was designed for adding echo to Karaoke machines!)
I had the Snakebite and returned it. It held onto the last sound played after turning it off. Switch it back on, and the last sound briefly returns. Therefore, no way to quietly turn off and on the pedal. Really strange flaw!
Very good video!
Could you please list current pedals on the Affordaboard?
Ryan - "I haven't spent much time listening to shoegaze"
Ryan at 28:00 -
LMAO
Holy crap that's fucking sick
I actually run both the pink spring reverb and the caline on my board, i originally got the caline because I use reverb as a very very subtle, you can barely tell its there tone enhancement kind of thing. But it sounded so lovely I ended up getting the pink one for the subtle barely there sound, which it does a really good job with and building a whole sound based on the snake bite i've never used before.
Nothing wrong with a cheap verb spring is usually the best if it's by itself wow what names Lil bit lmao but cool board you made the Snake Bite had the coolest name😎💯🤘
I like the Snake pretty good. especially for the price.
I gotta say, I own entirely too many expensive pedals. And one of my favorite inexpensive pedals is the Caline PureSky. Such a useful and nice sounding overdrive/clean boost. $28! I'd pay $100 for it.
That's because it's a timmy clone. They are great
wrong thread bro bro, this is about reverb
I have the pure sky and like it as well. Inflation has crept in and I spent 35$ ish, but still worth it.
I have the Mosky. I grew out of it pretty much as soon as I could afford a better cheap reverb.
The Mugig mix knob kills the dry signal when you turn it all the way up and you can run the 100% wet through a different amp. This is normal behavior for a mix knob. He seems surprised that his volume dropped without knowing why it may be useful in certain situations. For example you could pan your guitar hard left and only the reverberations hard right in recordings.
Ryan - I think the Affordaboard could use a cheap Looper, if there is such a thing. Just a suggestion. I'm enjoying your channel more and more. Subscribed.
there is a company who makes a tiny tiny little TC ditto mini copy for £30 I think
I was looking at loopers on ebay earlier today. There's a couple under £30 UK. Can't remember brands, but similar to Mosky. Ammon one was just +£30 UK.
@@Peasmouldia I really like the Ammon. It's tiny but does the job. They dont last long, I've had to buy a replacement recently after a year of daily use
Donner looper is great
Have the azor looper. I haven’t spent a lot of time with it but it works. Was $38 for me.
Love these budget shootouts. Gonna grab that Twinote PI Fuzz soon and see how it sounds on bass.
I won't ruin it for you then....😁
Love the Twinote fuzz pi
So I finally grabbed one. I thought it was an Earthquaker Hoof clone, but it seems like it's not, the scoop knob seems like a treble booster!
@@TheoAndHisPedals yes....difficult to explain 5his pedal....just gotta plug it in......also I am finding great harmonics when rolling guitar volumes down.....really tames the buzz
Oh wow, that Mugig one seems to be trying to get the spring "drip" by using some kind of very resonant envelope filter kind of thing. Very odd sounding when you hear it clearly.
eyeball226 yeah it’s super weird
