Why I Bought...Caline Snakebite Reverb!

  • I bought this reverb pedal as i needed something other than the sound of the spring reverb from the Fender Hotrod amp, it has a controllable long tail reverb with pre-delay and an EQ section.
    NOTE: I did learn recently that the RES knob goes from a plate/spring style reverb to a large hall style, I couldn’t quite hear it as it’s so subtle.
    As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases but it costs you nothing extra.
    amzn.to/3wZOCJ8
    It's sounded great alongside my overdrive pedals and clean into the amp.
    What did you think? thanks for watching another video and any other guitar reverb pedal recommendations would be appreciated in the comments.
    Cheers - Derek

    I too bought this reverb as an alternative to the reverb on my Orange Rockerverb. I also have a Surfybear reverb which is the best spring sound ever. I just wanted something small and different. With the controls you can dial in something you like. That's what's great about this pedal. You can personalise the sound around the standard mix and dwell controls.

    Hi Derek, another excellent review gladly received and I notice that you have a ditto on your board, any chance of a review or have you already done it?. BTW, I agree with the other comments on your' other reverb review, I could easily handle longer reviews with some more of your playing, I find your licks more 'accessible' than some of the other reviewers and easier to relate to. I hope you'll take that as the compliment it's meant to be!

    • @DerekPaulGuitar
      @DerekPaulGuitar  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Gareth! I take it as a complement, I’m not the fastest or most complex player but enjoy coming up with something that will work for the review, I’ll certainly take the advice and put together some longer reviews, I was under the impression that a 4 minute review would be enough but have had some nice feedback to say that longer ones will work so thanks man, I appreciate the comment as always, stay well my friend oh also you asked about the ditto looper... I didn’t plan too but I have another looper on the way so I’ll review that and maybe throw in the ditto looper as a comparison :))

      I tried every verb under $75 and a couple under $100. While several had more features and modes, this one did its thing best, by far. Its a 'plate' type, which is what you hear in most studio recordings. However, looking at it as a single do-all, I would go with a spring type. The Snake Bite sounds great, but its pretty limited and just wont do stuff like the classic 'drip'. Unfortunately, a good spring verb pedal, that doesnt sound artificial, isnt cheap.

    Glad you like it. I bought the Snakebite a few months back. Lovin it. I have a background in Audio Engineering and I wanted one with Pre Delay; EQ also a plus. Dialing up the pre delay and shortening the decay gives a lush tone, without muddying things up. It has to do with how our ears process sound - as in sound leaves amp, its wall and travels back to our ears. That's the Pre delay. Side Note: The Gokko 'Creepy Reverb' is the same pedal & cost an additional $15-20 US

    • @DerekPaulGuitar
      @DerekPaulGuitar  4 года назад +1

      Thanks man! I agree it’s a really really good reverb, i took a chance as I needed one and I’m surprised at how good it is, especially with the pre-delay, it’s one of those reverbs that almost sits underneath the original sound to give a nice lush reverb, good tip on the Gokko too, thanks for the comment

      Got mine 1/2 an hour ago from Amazon. It doesn't use a 9 volt battery (no connectors inside at all for one). It DOES use a 9 volt DC adapter...AND DOESN'T COME WITH ONE.
      So, add 13 bucks or more for one rated for it, and you're about par with the Gokko.

    I think you missed what this pedal is really for. I believe this is for more out there reverbish sounds. But you seem like a regular guy, and got regular sounds. And it is good to know that this pedal can do regular sounds as well as what it is really designed for, the more out there truly ambient reverb sounds (your use of the term "ambient" is accurate for common parlance, but within the guitar world, no, not used correctly, "ambient guitar" means really spaced out, soupy, floaty guitar sounds, aka, whale sex in the seas of Jupiter's moon Titan.
