My dad is 93 years old. He started working as farmer when he was 13. He is still working on the farm every day. It's impossible to stop him from growing plants.

A lot of candy makers that I have seen it used heat insulating gloves and don't cool the candy down nearly as much as he did just because it's so hard. I think part of what helps the people who make a bigger batches though is that the candy is heavy enough that it stretches itself for a little bit. That's why a lot of the candy hooks are hung on a wall at about head height.

If it cools down to a temperature that you (as in the average person) could comfortably grab, you can't pull it the way he did. workers doing this in stores have to wear thick gloves under standard ones to not get burnt.

Thats called Melcocha in my country. Its very popular here. I live in Ecuador. There is a whole town called Los Bancos that make this in every house. The best is when the Melcocha is still warm from the stirring. I remember eating it when I was a kid.

I’ve tried stretching those candies, and even though they look silky and stretchy, it’s ROCK SOLID, feels like a really strong rubber band.
