For those getting the 'VIN not found' or whatever it says error: I ordered the exact same cable from the exact same seller. I was getting frustrated and about to give up. I watched this video over and over, deleted and redownloaded the software a couple of times (is 'redownloaded' a word?) and then I remembered that Evan repeatedly said: "make sure that pins 7 and 8 are connected". I moved the switch to the right, and bingo. Immediately connected. Hope this helps someone. Try all 4 switch settings if you need to.

Running this on Win10 without issue. Recently coded and activated my E60 530i Bluetooth. Make sure you update Daten files if you run into Coapi errors during coding. Great video.
Make sure you're using the latest daten files for your model. They must be loaded into the software. If you don't have the daten files, you can get the package you need from (Bimmergeeks) the latest version on the site is 60.1. I used it without issue. Once you download the daten files you'll need to load them, the easiest way is with the BMW CODING TOOL. Make sure you update Daten and WinKFP. Search for some videos on youtube, I believe there are a few good ones that walk through how to update the files with this tool. Once you've downloaded the file for your model from BimmerGeeks, and updated try your coding attempt again. You shouldn't get the Coapi error. The reason the error happens is because the Coapi process file is pulled from WinKFP by NCS expert, if NCS expert can't find the file (in WinKFP), it throws the Coapi error. Hope this helps... Good Luck!

Hi, I have been watching your videos for a while now, finds the videos very useful regards specifically to e46. I have a 4 door 320d 2005 production. It is a base model and at times it is frustrating when you miss basic things like a drink holder or even an aircon which are now standard equipment saying that, still love the car have it since 09 and have 95K miles on the clock, looking at your videos there are endless possibilities to make it look cool and perform better though it is a time consuming but I enjoy it.
HI, Evan, I followed up your instruction to install it, why the NCS-EXPERT open it, after F1+F3 , do not indicate FG and FA NBR , that is only Chassis E70 come out. I check software, do not find the SP-DATEN. Whether or not some where miss the software or others. according to your mentioned as below : quote: I modified my D-can cable and installed a switch in order to have it operational with 2006 and earlier models that use the OBDII port. My cable did not come with an adapter... 2/2007 and older vehicles requires the pin 7 and 8 to be bridged to work..3/2007 and later requires pin 7 and 8 to be separate. Hey man! Great video. Wondering if there is a way I can turn off bulb out warnings. I’ve built some custom tail lights with LEDs and don’t want to run a load resistor due to space and also the heat they generate. Looking online there’s not a lot of direct info on where to find it.
Just started looking at your RUclips articles. MASSIVE information! I am very interested in the coding tutorial. I have many questions but I will ask two for now. First, do you have a tutorial on coding using a MacBook Pro? Second, do you offer, for a fee of course, one on one tutorials for people who are REALLY not tech savvy? I have an 01 325CI convertible that I would love to be able drop/raise the top, off my key fob! I look forward to your input and am going continue watching your RUclips's.
All my tutorials are on my MacBook Pro. I have not done any sessions on tutorials. What specifically do you need help setting up windows? If your not tech savvy I recommend buying Carly or the smartTop module
Hi, Evan. I have what you can call an uncommon issue. A while ago I used ISTA-P to update all the modules in my BMW 520d E60 09/2007 (pre-LCI I think) with the "magnificent" N47D20A engine. I used an ICOM Next A+B+C which worked flawlessly for me. All good until it reached the last two modules, which were the CCC and the Bluetooth. Somehow the jump lead from the battery got disconnected during programming and both modules mentioned went to "Programming Mode 12" or something and until I figure it out I couldn't use the screen, listen music, etc. The "funny" part (well, not that funny, though) is that I couldn't find ANYWHERE the codes for these two modules, and by "codes" I mean the numbers shown in WinKFP to describe the modules, which in my case were VIRTSG91 - (Bluetooth) - 9176842 and MMI/CCC - (The CCC module) - 9176841. Somehow I used another version of CCC, which actually is allowing me to use the screen, but apart from the music list, there are NO WORDS shown on the screen. The Bluetooth is still in Programming Mode and I couldn't activate it no matter what I've tried. Do you have any clue of where I can find those ZB numbers to match those I have? Any idea would be much appreciated. Best regards, Valentine.
Unfortunately you said that the power had been disconnected while rewriting to the dme. if you don't have the original programming then the chances are high that you won't be able to recycle it and you'll technically have to 'unbrick the module' or buy a new one and calibrate it in via INPA.
Very informative video. Thanks. I could code an E46 323CI after following this just fine. However the E46 M3 remains unchanged. No errors though. Coding gets finished just fine. I already did an SMGII tune using MSSTuner so there must not be an issue with the K+DCAN cable. I need to try it again tomorrow fresh.
thanks for detailed instructions. Is this process the same for szl and airbag/communication module? and do you know what abbreviation is used to identify these 2 modules

Awesome video. Worked like a charm on my 2006 E46 convertible. Thanks. I do have a couple of questions I hope you can answer: 1. What module do I need to access to synch memory seat position to key remote? 2. Is there an option to have doors unlock upon upon removal of key from ignition? Thanks again.
Great job, very informative. My question is what if you wanted to do a used module? Would you read the original, copy all the coding in notepad, put in the replacement one. Open in notepad, delete what's there and paste the original coding info?
great video , thanks again i got the cable i bought on ebay to work fine , i added the switch to bridge pins 7 and 8 i have a 2001 325ci (US) i got the blinker lights to flash when i lock /unlock and i got the windows to roll up with the key fob (sorta) but i can not get one touch close to work for the rear windows for some reason also my windows roll up with the key fob and the sun roof closes but the rear windows do not close but if i put the key in the door and lock it and hold it they will close, i coded it twice for one touch close rear windows but it doesn't work , so i thought maybe that i needed to code rear window jamming protection for it to work for one touch close, it was not enabled so i thought it might be a safety thing again , but when i coded that to on ten my read windows wouldn't close at all, i d=coded it back to off and they close again but no one touch close i did notice that in NCS dummy when selecting the GM5 that there were 2 that worked gm5.c05 and gm5.co6 so i tired it with both and still nothing oh and even though my car is 2001 i had to select the option for non facelift AKMB ans ALSZ didn't work so i went with EWS but i wonder if i try KMB if it will make any difference? and the only option for the visual alarm with no alarm module installed that worked was blinking the blinkers when i lock/ unlock , i tried to code it to blink low beams but it didn't work either , the only one that specifically said with no alarm module was the blink the blinkers one i wonder if there is a way to do it manually and also to get the horn to honk when locking and unlocking or maybe even something even more advanced like make it behave like other cars where the horn honks intermittently and the light lights flash as an alarm if the door is opened
Nice job making the video. I was wondering if you can assist me with a question I have. In NCS Dummy , how do I add an option to one of the choices in the trace file. For example in CAS module, in battery coding, how do I add an option for a 92ah agm battery. I hit on one of the choices which was 80ah agm and right clicked, then selected add an option, but then I don’t know how to populate the boxes below for this choice to become part of the trace file.
Great Video, I have a problem when trying to code my E60, at the very beggining when I select Choose ECU, I get numerous MASK selections and two CHAMPE70 selections, I dont get any modules list like you did, how can I fix that? Thanks.
Does it code the car or the key? Meaning if you done this- you programmed the key to unlock the hood then somehow un synced your key with the car (im talking about when you are synching the car to key for unlocking the car from fob) if you un synced this does this wipe the programming of the hood.

Hey Evan how is going, I hope you and your family is safe and doing of. I have been one of your subscribers for some time now and MUST commend you and the material you put out to assist someone like me who is a new comer to the BMW family. Without further ado i have a 2002 X5 and retrofitted a steering gear with servotronic to it. I went to this BMW guy to have some coding done so i could benefit from the softer steering feel but he told me that was not achievable. So i returned to the salvage yard and remove the general module and replaced mine with it and it started working. The thing is i av lost the ability to open my trunk with the key fob and from the release button from the center console. I’m wondering if the module that’s currently in my vehicle can be reprogrammed so i could obtain the ability again to release the upper trunk lid with key fob and what i would need to do in terms of software and procedures to achieve this. Thanks for your kind reply.
So i followed your procedures last week and for the first time manage to do some coding but wasn’t able to change what i was experiencing. The problem I’m having is the key fob releases the lower portion of the trunk, that’s where the signal is going.
Dude, can this be used to synchronise EWS with DME, I got a crank but no start... After battery jumping.. Thanks for the video.. I have installed INPA with NCS expert dumy. Need your help please.

Nope. I took the clear connector apart to verify that the pins were connected, and noticed that the wires were connected on the right. I moved the switch to the right, and bingo. Immediately connected.
Hope this helps someone. Try all 4 switch settings if you need to.
moved what switch? I have the blue connector apart, and see no switch. Pins 7,8 are soldered together.
Some cables have a switch for different BMWs and some cables are soldered to just work on like the e46, e39, e38

I've been looking into buying an e46 for awhile and between your review of the eonon radio and this content Its convinced me that I can buy an e46, get a raw and visceral enthusiast experience while also being able to have modern creature comforts. Thank you so much for putting out these videos. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!! Let me know what other videos you would like to see.
Having bought yet another E-series BMW this is exactly what I need.
For the module you choose in NCS Dummy it's actually written in NCSexpert which module number it is under the JOBNAME
Awesome detailed video...Thank you soooo much for that! I just fixed my airbag/seatbelt issues in my car! Why 20 dislikes when this video clearly deserves like a million likes! Thank you once again buddy!
Same here i just did mine today and i feel like i'v just won a million pounds. Thanks to this guy. Brilliant video
Running this on Win10 without issue. Recently coded and activated my E60 530i Bluetooth. Make sure you update Daten files if you run into Coapi errors during coding. Great video.
Make sure pins 7 and 8 are bridged on the inpa cable
Yes
Good Luck!
Thank you man, my 1999 bmw e46 had no lights so I replaced fuse 107 now it's working normal
I'm glad to see it able to be brute forced to use hex & regedit on windows 11 using bootcg on my iMacPadi 27,, but Im still waiting for someone togetit rooted 4 my jailbroke droid.s and I'll automate the E65's climavibe by a new predictol'rythem code made courtesy of the subtle exploits of my already stolen thoughts. Wow, 😊 Inspirational & Instructive.. You thoroughly took plenty of time including all of the excitement and intricacies too, plus the perfect amount of low monotone... A unique, patient lack of intensity that really sterilized my focus too. Good job.. I haven't been this motivated to learn coding since the accident that led me to translating java into sign language for my one handed keyboarding class.
I learnt and now enjoy using NCS Expert and dummy after watching your Video i have been struggling and almost hated this software big up Evan
Best NCSExpert video on RUclips, thanks!
This is the best tutorial on coding I have seen ,thank you! Informative and detailed information in an easy to understand way. All the links work as of today.
Thank you!!!
Thank you for watching and it is odd that BMW didn’t add these basic features
I was getting the vin ERROR until i closed INPA and flicked the switched. (you need to do both) Thanks for the video it was very helpful!

HI, Evan, I followed up your instruction to install it, why the NCS-EXPERT open it, after F1+F3 , do not indicate FG and FA NBR , that is only Chassis E70 come out. I check software, do not find the SP-DATEN. Whether or not some where miss the software or others. according to your mentioned as below : quote:
I modified my D-can cable and installed a switch in order to have it operational with 2006 and earlier models that use the OBDII port. My cable did not come with an adapter... 2/2007 and older vehicles requires the pin 7 and 8 to be bridged to work..3/2007 and later requires pin 7 and 8 to be separate. So for 2 bucks at Radio Shack and about 20 minutes of my time, I have a fully functional cable for both applications! : unquote:
my car is BMW X5 2012 WHether or not D-CAN PIN 7 AND PIN 8 SHOULD BE SEPARATED , I CHECK IT , YES. IT IS SO WHAT CAN I DO ,
PLEASE HELP ME POINT OUT WHERE IS KEY POINT? THANK YOU
thanks Evan great video i saw the one from 50's kid but i don;t think he knows about compatibility mode in windows ,he was going through the trouble of running a virtual machine
Great video instructions. I have done all the setup and validated that the cable is connecting, but I always get a VIN Mismatch every time I go I do the chassis selection for my 2003 e46. I have the exact same cable as yours and I have tried it with all 4 switch positions and all 4 chassis types. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Finaly something that works!!! Verry usefull tutorial!!
Thanks for taking the time to produce this.
Totally agree. I reckon Evan would have taken 4+ hours to make this video for us. I love people who share their knowledge.
+1 on the generosity and patience
Thank you for taking the time to share all these informations 🙏
Jesus, you are good at explaining!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for watching
this is a Great video well explains everything should know as a beginner, thanks for that, and wishing good luck for future content creation even after 5 years 😄.
TYVM!!!! Excellent Video! I was able to communicate with the DSC and resolve my DSC coding issue.
Great share Evan- really appreciate this video and the links. Anyone who needs some of the links I can share these to you. I am waiting on my cable and will try to code out my AFS and the Service reminder.
Hi Euan,
Great video walk through.
Quick question, my GM3 module went faulty so I replaced from a donor car.
Would I now have to use NCS EXPERT TO code it to factory or is factory not VO ie…… folding mirrors when in reverse etc….. and is back to basic settings?
Do I click process car?
I hope this makes sense.
Look forward to your reply 👍
Hey man! Great video. Wondering if there is a way I can turn off bulb out warnings. I’ve built some custom tail lights with LEDs and don’t want to run a load resistor due to space and also the heat they generate. Looking online there’s not a lot of direct info on where to find it.
Nice one m8... just wanted to reset my airbag light after kids pulled the socket out from under my seat, loads of interesting info , I may have a go @
Just started looking at your RUclips articles.
If your not tech savvy I recommend buying Carly or the smartTop module
excellent video your explanation was clear and concise, you've earned a new sub! keep up the great work
The "funny" part (well, not that funny, though) is that I couldn't find ANYWHERE the codes for these two modules, and by "codes" I mean the numbers shown in WinKFP to describe the modules, which in my case were
VIRTSG91 - (Bluetooth) - 9176842
and
MMI/CCC - (The CCC module) - 9176841.
Best regards,
Valentine.
Unfortunately you said that the power had been disconnected while rewriting to the dme. if you don't have the original programming then the chances are high that you won't be able to recycle it and you'll technically have to 'unbrick the module' or buy a new one and calibrate it in via INPA.
Real clear explanations!
Been at this for weeks. This stuff is never as easy as it looks on the vids. lol Sure hope somebody who can help chimes in.
What do you need help with?
Omg it worked thanks for the video now i have visuals when I lock and unlock and the lil clown nose blinks
thanks for detailed instructions. Is this process the same for szl and airbag/communication module? and do you know what abbreviation is used to identify these 2 modules
very helpful & clear tutorial.. Thanks
Evan thanks for taking all the time to put this up. I have 2000 e39 528i. I think the ABG module is going to have to be replaced for F0 internal fault and also 11 power supply. I was going to get a used one on ebay to save $$$. Could you please tell me, will this program work with this car? If so what is needed to code the ABG module? Any RUclips links? Thank you
Yes winfkp is what you most likely need
@@EvanGoyuk First thank you for replying. What is WINFKP ? Do you know if the Airbag module has to have my Vin coded into it? I found a used one from the same model and year, part number and version. I was thinking maybe plug and play? Do you think it would have to be sent to an Airbag Reset service first?
Great vid. Thanks for refreshing my memory!
Hi bud, great info in your videos. I have a 2002 X5 E53 4.4i that i have somehow changed the comfort entry. the one click door open, two click all doors open is cool and works, but now when i put the key in the ignition and go to position 2 to start it, the driver and passenger widows wind all the way down. The door control switches wont allow the windows to be put up at all until i switch the car off and use the "hold centre button" to close all windows. Any help would be much appreciated as it's a pain in the arse not being able to raise the driver or passenger windows while driving, especially if it's raining....cheers

Hi Evan Goyuk. Thank you very much for the video. Following the instructions I was able to install properly std tools and inpa can see when k dcan cable is plugged in the pc and when ignition is on. Now my problem is when I press "info" button in inpa software in the ini path, ecu path, and interface I see lots of ???????????
Is yours doing the same?
Any replay will be much appreciated.
This is a HELLA great video!!! Excellent job! You were extremely thorough and made everything easy to understand. I am reading this in 2020 and I want to code some stuff on my 2008 E92 335i. I did not see e92 chassis listed in the list on NCS Expert. Do I just need to get the latest NCS Profiles?
update on this would be amazing
@@willyeyds Yeah, as you can see, he never replied to me.

@@EvanGoyuk Thanks brother!
Hi Even
Had to change the ECU, ABS pump and the cluster in my E46 M3 due to a fire in the engine bay! Any ideas how I can change the FGSTNR so they all have the correct VIN number for the car?
Also need to do any coding thats required for them to work and talk to each other etc, can this be done with INPA or NCS Expert? I also have PA Soft but a lot of my options are greyed out so maybe I'm only running a demo version or something? Also have a Lew fault which I think just needs the steering angle sensor to be calibrated which I think I can do on INPA
Any help would be great
Great tutorials by the way

Great information and video, I was able to code out the corner leds in my 08 e92 335xi. Thank you so much
Tim Deng dude, how did you code an e92 with this, there is no option in ncs for any of the e9x’s I have an e90 and ncs expert shows e89 then k1x, how did you do it please?
An excellent video, for those of us that are starting to use INPA and the rest of the software.
However. After installing the software following the instructions here, I get all the INPA diagnostics in German. I left all the tools in a folder on the desktop called BMW TOOLS, and moved the translations.csv file there, but yet the diagnostics are not translated. Should the .csv file be located somewhere else? Txs for the help
Thankfor the great video but you did not mention what are the files on your desktop prior to you unzip BimmerGeeks Standard Tools and ncs-Dummy
Hi did u find any solution about auto unlock ?
Great job, very informative. My question is what if you wanted to do a used module? Would you read the original, copy all the coding in notepad, put in the replacement one. Open in notepad, delete what's there and paste the original coding info?
great video , thanks again
i got the cable i bought on ebay to work fine , i added the switch to bridge pins 7 and 8
i have a 2001 325ci (US)
i got the blinker lights to flash when i lock /unlock and i got the windows to roll up with the key fob (sorta) but i can not get one touch close to work for the rear windows for some reason
also my windows roll up with the key fob and the sun roof closes but the rear windows do not close but if i put the key in the door and lock it and hold it they will close,
i coded it twice for one touch close rear windows but it doesn't work , so i thought maybe that i needed to code rear window jamming protection for it to work for one touch close, it was not enabled so i thought it might be a safety thing again , but when i coded that to on ten my read windows wouldn't close at all, i d=coded it back to off and they close again but no one touch close
i did notice that in NCS dummy when selecting the GM5 that there were 2 that worked gm5.c05 and gm5.co6 so i tired it with both and still nothing
oh and even though my car is 2001 i had to select the option for non facelift AKMB ans ALSZ didn't work so i went with EWS but i wonder if i try KMB if it will make any difference?
and the only option for the visual alarm with no alarm module installed that worked was blinking the blinkers when i lock/ unlock , i tried to code it to blink low beams but it didn't work either , the only one that specifically said with no alarm module was the blink the blinkers one
i wonder if there is a way to do it manually and also to get the horn to honk when locking and unlocking or maybe even something even more advanced like make it behave like other cars where the horn honks intermittently and the light lights flash as an alarm if the door is opened
Thanks for great video, do you know what I need to change(which module codirung:AHM,PDC..?) after installing towing hook (Westfalia)?
Email me I can help
Cheers for your hard work sorting this out
Finally I found all in one place. Great job. All is going how he describe. Thank you.

Can you make a series of different coding and including swapping ecu of an other car, for all of the e46- e90s
Thanks for sharing with us
Thanks so much for posting this video!
Thanks.
Does the ncsexpert detect the vin?
Does it code the car or the key? Meaning if you done this- you programmed the key to unlock the hood then somehow un synced your key with the car (im talking about when you are synching the car to key for unlocking the car from fob) if you un synced this does this wipe the programming of the hood.
This is a great video explaining on how to tweak features of a module, but can someone explain how to code a module that was replaced using NCSExpert? In my case specifically, I need to code a replacement DSP amp on my 1997 e38.

Do u have a recommendation of steps for this fix? I appreciate it.
What is the error message?
Evan Goyuk when I select foot rest module, it says, ERROR! CODING NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE A CRITICAL ERROR HAS BEEN DETECTED THAT MAY LEAD TO THE CONTROL UNIT BEING ABLE TO RESTART AFTER CODING.
I’m using bimmercode/veepeak obd adapter. I can code, accept my lights, mirrors etc.. after some research, I find that the frm3 folder is where the remaining options are in to code them.

Yes the GM module will need to be recoded using winkfp and NCS expert
So i followed your procedures last week and for the first time manage to do some coding but wasn’t able to change what i was experiencing. The problem I’m having is the key fob releases the lower portion of the trunk, that’s where the signal is going.
Dude, can this be used to synchronise EWS with DME, I got a crank but no start... After battery jumping.. Thanks for the video.. I have installed INPA with NCS expert dumy. Need your help please.
