Unlike so many other young drummers, Yoyoka's not saying "look at me", she's just playing the song. And her memory is phenomenal. I believe she just gives each song two or three listens and then she has it. Just awesome.
Some may laugh at me, but I was a working guitarist for almost 35 years and never came close to having a drummer even close to her level of talent. I am not kidding when I say, this young Lady is on my list of 20 Favorite drummers of all time! Yoyoka will be a super-star someday!
Cozy Powell was a monster rock drummer, a legend, playing in iconic bands such as Rainbow and Black Sabbath. He died in the 90's from a car crash. Rainbow was the solo project of Ritchie Blackmore, the founder of Deep Purple. One of the four bands who created hard rock and heavy metal. The singer was the legendary Ronnie James Dio, who later also joined Black Sabbath. Dio is revered as the best rock/metal singer of all time. He passed away from cancer 10-ish years ago. This song you reacted to is from 1977 and is an absolute hard rock classic.

Agreed! Not only is Yoyoka a fabulous drummer, but she knows EXACTLY what to add to a cover without going overboard - she improves it - every time. That kind of judgement and taste and imagination are, to me, her most impressive skills.
Recently in another RUclips by a Drummer I assume Jazz who is producing Documentaries concerning Rock and Roll greats of the 70's an on put up a Zeppelin cover by Yoyoka and his exchanges with Ian Pace on her and his giving us her history and playing. She confessed she can read music, but hates it. She learns by ear listening several times before her playing. When she's ready her dad sets up the camera and they go for it. One Shot no editing. Boom!
And I thought this cover was incredible, not that any of her others were less, but she seems to have changed up her Pearl Kit and gotten the tune of the whole really dialed in and set a new bar for her clarity and skill.
Another amazing job yoyoko and Andrew but please check out cozy Powell himself, critacly underated drummer but here in England especially, his single dance with the devil was a hit in the 70s here and got me into drums, or check out his overture, he was a go to player for so many bands, Brian may, and Tony iommi I think, died tragically young but for me personally was up there with bonzo, big hitter and apparently the nicest guy, please do him the honour and let him not be forgotten, big love to all u wood choppers out there 😀
Yoyoka has gotten me to the point of tears when I see her play. I have gone from awe, to impressed and now just tears of amazement. The great thing about the internet is not that we get exposed to all these prodigies. The beauty of the Internet is that we get to see them develop their raw talent and refine it to the final product it is yet to be seen!
This style of rock is Not in my purview, but that does not diminish this young Lady's talent. At age 11, I was lucky to put 1 foot in front of the other without tripping over something. I did get my first kit at that time, but I certainly didn't sound like this. She is definitely a ☆☆☆☆☆ chopper.
Every cover this young "Genius", and she is a drumming Genius at 11, she send shivers down my spine, and I feel every note, every beat as an electric shiver down my body. I am simply amazed how clean she makes every sound. Just an amazing drummer. My favorite musician now...she takes the playing of the drums to magical highs....imagine what this young lady will accomplish. She will set the bar so high that it will inspire greatness in others, yet they will still fall short! Bravo Yoyoka!! BRAVO!!!
When her mother said she had a very uncomfortable pregnancy with Yoyoka, you have to wonder if she was practicing that double kick in her mother's womb, so she would be ready to get at it at 1.5 yo.
Cozy Powell also played on Brian May’s solo albums Back to the Light and Another World.. Brian has said that the albums would not have been nearly as successful if Cozy had not been involved. Back to the Light was just remastered and released.
Every great drummer I've ever heard uses the spaces between notes to great effect, and Yoyoka is no different. Often the silence is equally impactful, and she's got it down.

Good discussion point Andrew, clarity is something to be achieved. With it we can develop subtlety and refinement. I guess it depends on what a person wants to achieve, a good rocking tune, music that has popular appeal, virtuosity, etc. However, in each case, it seems that great clarity provides us with the space to use our skills.
The technique that kid is playing is called, wait for it... Passion! Yes indeed! There's a thing that called passion and it's something that it's really missing from a lot of artists nowadays. She really likes to play the drums and it shows. She simply loves what she's doing.

Yup. She knows how to hit a drum... and figured it out on her own when she was knee-high to a grasshopper. Have you seen any of her very early vids where she is smaller than a sack of potatoes? She was really reaching for the clouds to get that sound ;-)

So good. Yoyoka is awesome. Rainbow were an awesome band. 'Rising' from 1976 is a classic hard rock album, Cozy's intro to the song 'Stargazer' is nuts. Check out 'Live in Munich 1977' for great concert footage.

So good. Yoyoka is awesome. Rainbow were an awesome band. 'Rising' from 1976 is a classic hard rock album, Cozy's intro to the song 'Stargazer' is nuts. Check out 'Live in Munich 1977' for great concert footage.
