That's a candid admission that the relationship hasn't always been a dance on roses, but on the whole it's been mostly good. She comes off as bossy; I'm not sure what the couple is like when it's just the two of them. It might be that she's happy to fight back against outsiders but warm towards those close to her. Also, she's comfortable joking with the judge ("you don't have to take me to dinner"); I don't get strong Karen vibes from her.
