@@Shoorit basically they weren't happy in regards to confidentiality of clients. I think he also mentioned something to do with liability but could be misremembering. TFL basically said stop the videos or we revoke your licence. Good job they came to their senses.

I have to say, it's been more than 55 years since I've been in London and this is a lot of fun running around seeing the same old stuff and the new things as well. I'll never see it again at my age, as I'm in Australia. Thanks for the rides.

Ahhhh Tom I was in London on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday spending some time with the Mrs for our anniversary. Did lots of sight seeing and the usual stuff, watched the lion King in theatre etc etc. One other thing I did and to the amusement of the Mrs was, 'finding tom'. We walked for ages each day whilst sightseeing to find you and hail you down haha 😄 maybe next time !

I enjoy your videos (born and bred Londoner here) and I know the West End as well as any cab driver (bold claim I know - but true after 56 years) don't know North London past Regent's park AT ALL so it's fun to see your forays into Primrose hill etc - BUT the main thing is that if you and I ever shared a pint we would ARGUE about the pronunciation of Marylebone. You go for the "Mars Bar - Maaaarrrleeebone" and I go for the "Married" Marylebon. Anyway, fun videos, keep up the good work mate. I used to live on Lambs Conduit St and it seems to be a bit of a headache for cabbies because of the truly weird middle bit which separates the Russell Sq exit from the Gt Ormond St exit. I always used to say "what ever suits you" in answer to the question "which end" do you want to come in from ? I never understood why they didn't just open it as a street or pedestrianise the whole thing.

May I suggest perhaps sticking some form of a small poster in the back of the taxi alluding to your RUclips channel with a link/ QR code to it. Not sure if this is against regulation or would come across as pretentious but yeah. Stay safe mate!

It's amazing how many people hail you down with just a small wave or raise of their hand and you're able to spot them, as well as needing to keep your eyes on the road. You must need to keep eyes peeled at all times to pick them out amongst the other pedestrians.
a good cabbie can spot a rat going down a drain 100 yards away on the opposie side of the road.

I'd of left the drunk woman in the street, especially after seeing that other female being sick out of the taxi infront earlier. Not worth the agro if she throws up inside your taxi. Great video Tom
Great point about the business costs. By the time the expenses are covered, plus the tax woman's chunk, and pension provision, there's not that much left in your pocket!

Used to love a long Saturday, with a trip to Heathrow as soon as I got anywhere west of W.Ken. Used that time for a nice meal and a bit of a rest before the evening rush. Great video as usual. 👍🏻

Found your channel via Tom Scott Plus but it's taken a while to actually start watching your content (no idea why!!) and now I'm sitting here binge watching and hoping I can get to visit London again soon (recently moved from Kent to the Midlands, it's not so easy to get there any more!).

Just discovered your videos. Sometime in the next year or so my wife and I are considering going on vacation/holiday to London. We’re from the USA. I drive for a living also. I drive a truck and a shuttle bus for the United States Postal Service in Downtown Boston.
Hello Tom. I actually got a cab from Westminster Bridge tube to Imperial War Museum on Thursday. Then a cab from IWM to Borough Market.
The first cab I got it came to £7.60, gave him £20 and said just give me a tenner back. I'm not sure he heard me as he gave me £13 change, yep that's right he knowingly gave me too much change. I picked up the tenner leaving him the 3 quid.
Was a decent cabbie. Had a laugh with him about his orange roof after the Wednesday orange sky phenomenon.
He watches this channel also, if you're watching, cheers for being decent.
Glad to hear Ryan, yea that orange sky stuff was weird! Proper made the cab go all funky!
@@TomtheTaxiDriver yeah he was saying a lot of drivers were trying to clean their cabs but as we both said that's a never ending job until the sky clears.
Also you're better off waiting and just using the jet wash. Trying to wash that off can scratch your paintwork.
That's just my opinion of course.
Weekends are the ones. Traffic is great and you can be home by 8pm with a nice number in your pocket. Always busy.
Yea pre covid I never found them that amazing
@@TomtheTaxiDriver same, never found it busy pre covid but every country/city is now busy due to the effect of covid, More people are out then the norm. Can’t blame them, was stuck 2 years indoors. Also a shortage of cabs is helping us, my intake is work hard for now because it will get back to the norm sooner then later
early in the video you mention the white lion on Westminster Bridge. There is a second one. It is at the main gate to Twickenham Stadium and was painted gold when England won the world cup in 2003

If you are ever in Pont street winters morning say 5.30 am if you look up you will see a funnel of lights it's the stack system for all flights lining up for Heathrow amazing and beautiful.
Location just at the bend behind harrods there is a big white building

Really interesting to see how your driving strategy is very similar to how the more efficient ride hailing/taxi drivers are in Singapore.
I’m a ride hailing driver under Grab myself and I always aim to stay in the “magic circle” or the town area in Singapore at night where demand is higher. Singapore drivers call it “ping-pong” Town/CBD.
I would reject trips going to the outskirts or the airport 😂
One thing I don’t do. Work on weekends 😂. Hope you’re alright Tom 🤙🏻

Thanks again Hyde Park southbound is usually ok Northbound a disaster due to the Cycle Lane. Gordon st roadworks are finished but Russell sq is closed northbound roadworks a nightmare.

Jesus the knowledge is unreal on these taxi drivers I've been stuck in London not having a glue where I was going and which station I needed to link up with but these drivers know all the underground stations to get you home well worth the money they charge well done our London cabbies x

I was watching this and it reminded me of being a Telegram boy in the mid seventies. When my first day of being one was going to Balconde st. Dorset sq was cut off because of the Balcombe st siege and was surrounded by police.
Tom, you might find this interesting, when I studied with WizAnn 20 years ago it was pointed out that Beauchamp Place is not pronounced ‘Bowshomp’ as you would expect but surprisingly ‘Beechamp’ …. and I’ve had people say it like that when requesting to go there ….
That's how my posh aunt pronounces it that way, too (Bee-cham). Similarly she pronounces her surname "Plough" as "Pluff" and not "Plow" - she probably doesn't want to be reminded of agriculture :-D

Could you make a video on fare that don’t pay and what kind off help you can expect to receive from the police & how TFL look at these problems pls
28:39 taxis in tokyo have driver-operated rear doors which are opened by the driver pulling a lever beside him. god forbid british taxis should have such advanced technology!
The newer ones sometimes have electric sliding doors

Believe it or not I once met a London cabbie outside King's Cross who had never heard of Field Street WC 1. I asked a passing police officer who found it on his pocket A to Z and basically it was a tiny street of about 10 office blocks literally 2 minutes walk from King's Cross. This was in 1987.
Am watching ur videos new years eve actually love them I guess u don't post any new ones. I u be surprised people like me enjoy new stuff even watching tube drivers and bue stuff.. Working people better than others.

Been thinking if you were to record an entire shift in your cab including your commute into outta Town and all your quiet times you easily would have a video of over 12 hours in length

I can imagine that, the odd trip to the likes of Clapham and Islington does break up the shift - otherwise being stuck in W1 and SW1 the entire time would get a bit tiring.
