I really thought I wouldn't like this ride when I rode it the first time, but I happened to ride at night. The view at the top of the loop as you're just hanging there is insane. Seeing the city lights above you and the stars below you. That experience made it worth it.
I have it at #48 of the 204 coasters I have ridden. I think it is the 4th best coaster in the park but quite a bit behind the top 3 of Twisted Colossus, X2, and Tatsu. The hangtime during the loop is the best part. I think your review is fairly spot on. I'm guessing I like it a little more than you but not by much.
I'm a bigger fan of Full Throttle than most people, probably because I didn't know about the surprise going in. Honestly, it didn't even feel like a short ride to me. The hang time & the upsidedown view is so amazing! However, after today, I'm wondering if Monster's hang time on the Finnish loop might be even better.
I agree with every pro and con you mentioned, but for some reason I like this coaster more than you do. I guess that the epic loop, the ejector moment and that second launch make up for a lot for me. Stellar analysis, as usual.
Magic mountain is my home six flags park and I agree brakes kill the air time and it’s a middle tier ride. However I prefer tatsu over full throttle any day
So Wildcat at Frontier City isn’t on the Six Flags App. Like go to rides and it isn’t there. I don’t know what it means but maybe a ride closure or just Six Flags being Six Flags (OR RMC).
I remember the first time I rode it - the stopping in the tunnel, going backwards, than shooting through the tunnel was quite a surprise. Yah, too short of a coaster.
I think it looks like a good ride, that hang time, wow, that's what you call hang time. I want to go to Magic Mountain so bad, Twisted Colossus is on my bucket list. Great Adventure was my home park for most of my life but I moved and now Carowinds is my home park.
If they had 2-3 more elements after the drop and didn't have the obscene breaks on the hill, this would be a top tier coaster. As it is, I think it's the 5th best in the park but it would beat Riddler's Revenge if it had the changes I mentioned.
Heard from the ride ops that it doesn't go its max speed on the first launch. It only gets that fast on the last launch over the top hat. Dunno how true that is but it would explain how the first launch feels lacking.
Yeah, I tried to find some kind of stat or facts about the first launch speed but by all accounts I could find it was 70. Wouldnt surprise me if it was less
I’m just waiting for them to tear down the grizzly theater and put in a Mack hyper or Vekoma shockwave. There is so much room back there. Go check on google maps.
Loved this video but I'm confused by a comment that keeps repeating in review videos (for this and copperhead strike). If the loop hang time is a pro why is the weak launch a con? If the launch was stronger you lose that hang time. I've only ridden copperhead (full throttle next month) but it seems the idea of the launch is specifically to maximize hang time. Right?
Yes, love that hangtime. Makes the slow launch worth it. One con I would add actually has nothing to do with the ride itself. This is, there is a sewage system somewhere around where the ride entrance is. Makes it almost impossible to even get near the ride some days.
I'm making my first trip to magic mountain very soon- this is probably first on my to-do list as I'm biased towards launch coasters! I've got a quick question though: how friendly are the lap bars for larger passengers? I know the Poltergeist clones can be very tight but since I haven't been on many coasters my Premiere rides (just Poltergeist and Mr. Freeze). Last time I went on Poltergeist my coaster buddy was unable to fit (I barely fit). I certainly don't want to drag him into a line for a ride he won't be able to ride. (Google tells me we should be fine for most coasters in the park- just not sure about this one!)
I think the public loves it so it’s might of been the best investment for the park, although it should have been longer. It draws the locals and makes them happy but does not draw the traveler. Which it should since MM is the elite six flags park. It’s defiantly unique and different from a lot of other coasters which it why I do like the ride. It just feels like they killed a top ten contender by making it short, which is why I think the ride gets so much hate. Kinda a love hate thing.
I'm not the biggest fan of Premier rides. Full Throttle feels like a Sky Rocket II that does a but more, but still is just half a ride, basically something in between a flat ride and an actual coaster.
They are a safe, secure, high quality way to get a POV. Just be careful because even though they are completely safe, some parks still don't want you doing it.
Ok thanks 😀 I got a GoPro for my birthday a couple years ago but I can’t use it at any the parks besides the SeaWorld parks so I thought this would be a good alternative
I agree: this is half a ride. I recently went to Cedar Point for the first time, and other than Dragster, each coaster is the best of the best. This coaster had/has the ability to do an amazing spaghetti bowl after shooting over the loop. Thanks, Six Flags, but I would have preferred you keep Log Jammer. At least it was a complete attraction.
I also don’t like the braking on the final hill and I don’t like the mid-ride stop and re-launch. The ride really has a strange and “incomplete” layout. I think it was a bad replacement for the log ride. Could have been a lot longer.
Really well thought out pros and cons. Completely agree except I do like the first launch. I can't figure out why they operate this coaster this way, and it is infuriating. Why not let everyone fill the station? If they could simply move the final brake run lower, it would make a HUGE difference in this ride even though it is short. I also think the station is the ugliest in the park - it looks like a temporary carnival. Lastly, Chick Fill A is one of the last sponsors a park in a progressive area should have, but that's another story and I'm sure many will disagree with my political correctness.
Why are the ads A con? What is it about a poster, or a sign that turns you off so much about a roller coaster? That's actually kind of weird, and maybe instead of taking half the pill next time you should take the full pill the psychiatrist recommends if a poster at the end of the ride has such an effect on you. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even tell you who sponsored this ride until you said it in the video And I've probably been on Full Throttle easily over a hundred times being a passholder and all.
@@AirtimeThrills I dunno. Disneyland has done it since beginning of time. As well as Knotts. And we're talking the first class parks of the amusement industry. I'm guessing you're too young. But i remember when Toyota was posted all over Supreme Scream for the first year or 2. But it didn't change the ride to me or anyone I knew. I think if Disney and Knotts especially the pre Cedar fair Knotts used advertising, and they were the classiest parks around that its ok. Why? What would be so good about a suspended coaster with inversions? Or a wooden invert or wing coaster? Idk if thats even possible but if it was what advantages would it have over a steel wing or invert? Why a wooden giga when we dont even have a wooden hyper? Is it even possible to get ejector air in the flying position?
@John Lorton I mean a wooden invert could at least happen but a Launched Flyer with Airtime might not and also a Single Track Dualing Coaster could happen with the choice of sitting on the top or hanging from the bottom
I think the other half of Full throttle is Maxx Force.
100%!!!
But with a more powerful magnetic launch to keep the energy going that stopping it completely
Exactly. two short coasters missing each other
If full throttle had maxx force mixed with it that would be just yes

The launch on full throttle I think is weak so you get that great hangtime in the top of that loop

I always wonder what if's, like what if they added overbank turns at the end like on Xcellarator. Not amazing but dang it they have the space!
It would be worth it just to allow riders to experience the full drop

so are new premier rides all having comfort collars?
Seems like thats the trend
Ik a couple Sky Rocket IIs that opened in 2017 that had no collars. Feels like all major chains act like it’s a seat belt or something for security.
third time i have asked this. this is my first time going to magic mountain and i could barley handle the hulk. am i about to die on the inside
This must have been the other half of Skyrocket.
Istg i would go in this ride if it wasnt lap bars 😭
6:33 Curse you Josh from Kings Dominion!
Full Throttle is so underwhelming with the brakes on the top hat :(((((
Full Throttle is a bit underwhelming. I’ll take Twisted Colossus any day over it.
Apples and oranges.
West Coaster Racers Will Not Have Comfort Collars
I'll never understand why people enjoy feeling like they might fall out during hang time haha y'all crazy!! Lol
Well you know you arent going to, there's no way your legs are gonna slide up and out of the lapbar so you can enjoy pretending that it might happen
