- This is my review of the Slim PS Vita 2000 japan version. I mention everything I like and don't like of this slim PS Vita. I also make a big decision on which one I keep, the new slim PS Vita or the old PS Vita. I hope you guys like the video.

So one downgrade throws away a whole bunch of other upgrades? No offense but I own BOTH models, and honestly, I love the VITA 2000 more than my 1000. And I never expected this. Yes the screen isn't a vivid, but in return, we won't suffer from burn-ins, (all OLEDS get it) we can see it better when were outside, and LCDs will last LONGER over time, than OLED screens will, and my battery life has went up almost 3 hours on a full charge to almost 11 hours of gameplay, whereas my 1000 lasts a good 7-8.
If you're a new-comer to the VITA, get the 2000, because you'll have better battery life, and your screen will last longer than an OLED.
Wow, I'm sorry but it's hard to believe that you really own both. Why? There's no way somebody with good vision say that the LCD looks better and is better than OLED. OLED will always be better. The only reason Sony chose to go for a cheaper screen technology was to reduce the manufacturing cost. I've also has lots of gadgets with OLED and never suffered from burn in. Second battery is barely an hour more, not 3 more hours like you claim. Barely one hour more.
Like I said in this video, I like all the upgrades, but I love OLED too much and my eyes are used to the awesome screen like to downgrade.
I plan on uploading a Side by side comparison myself soon, but in the meantime, you'll simply have to take my word for it. I own the Assassins creed liberation bundle for the 1000, and the Final Fantasy X/ X2 Resolution box for the 2000. And when put side by side, the LCD held up really well accept in 2 areas: all white screens, and all black screens. But let's be realistic, how often are you going to come by one of those in a game? In all other areas the LCD offered a more realistic color-pallet than the OLED's over saturated color pallet. And where did I say the OLED looks better? I said the BENEFITS of owning an LCD outweigh the benefits of owning an OLED. Yes you get a better colors on OLED, but with LCD you're getting more natural colors, a better battery life, and a screen that will last longer than an OLED Screen's lifespan.
But if you also recall in my post I also said "If you're new to the VITA platform get the 2000." Once again I never said the 2000's screen was better in terms of color saturation, I said it was better in terms if functionality and practicality.
And yes it's blatantly obvious Sony chose the LCD to reduce manufacturing costs. Because they're trying to lower the manufacturing cost, maximize profit, and get the platform in the hands of more players. For most current owners, it's not an upgrade, for newcomers, it's a great start.

its not the screen thats saving the battery life it has to be something else they are using that battery life as a excuse for the cheap screen oleds use less power then lcds look it up oleds can turn of parts of the screen and use less power lcds cant that's why oleds have great colors because they basically have infinite contrast ratio the higher the contrast ratio the more vivid the colors will be and less eye irritation
Marc The Geek the problem I have with OLED is I cant see jack shit when im outside or even where there is just barely any sunlight ._. It has to he shady as hell for me to even see the screen slightley bright :/

@@wattuh No, he just doesn't care about the screen. The slim is lighter, the charging port is better, and the buttons are better (start and select buttons), and also the LCD screen doesn't actually die compared to the OLED which is proven to die over time and suffer long term issues. Lets not forget that the battery life is better as well, and you can get different colored ones besides the colors of the original OLED as well.
I'm still wishing that one day Sony will make another Vita (3000) remake with a lighter,slimmer body (or the same like the Vita 2000), oled screen,still have the same micro usb as the charging port and changing the memory card to moicro sd. That would be perfect. :)

Great review. I was waiting for Sony to announce the PS Vita Slim before making my purchase and as soon as I saw the downgraded screen technology I immediately went to Amazon and purchased the myself the original PS Vita and I don't regret it in the slightest.
Also as nice as it would be Sony can't upgrade the screen resolution because all the games that are currently released for it will not support it and they won't format correctly on the screen. So Sony had to make that decision when they first created the Vita but they decided to go just below 720p. Disappointing but I am still very pleased with the gaming experience. That will definitely be implemented in the next generation of portable consoles.

Cheers Marc this was helpful comparing, I’m buying another Vita (Aqua blue) which is a 2000 for my Japanese memory card as to format to my old PS Vita a lot is a hassle.

Hey Marc, do you think it's worth buying the Vita just for Remote Play? I love the feature of playing PS4 Games on the PS Vita and i don't really care bout PS Vita games.
of its just for remote play, no. maybe you may want to get a new Sony Z3 device cause you'll be able to do remote play on them too.

You are focusing more on the ODL screen is the most important, plus LCD is not bad. Look at the first Vita with their problems. It was heavy, Sony made their own charger and the memory card are too high. On the 2000, it is light, a mico USB charger and the button layouts feels much better but they still did not lower the price on the memory cards.You should said hold off on the Slim. If this rumor true about the ODL screen is going to be on the Slim 2000 coming to the states but I like what you said about getting it use. You should put more balance in your review.
im not blaming you but lcd is a major lat down of course its nt bad i agree with you when i talked about this with my friends i always told them at least sony should've went to LED if they wanted to improve battery life cuz its not as good as OLED but its better than LCD
One important question: did they make the screen construction the same as the old vita, or can dust and lint get under the screen (between the top screen and the video screen so it sits there distracting your view of the game) like the psp? I don't care what upgrades they did otherwise, dust under the screen is a deal breaker.

The lcd really only looks "bone white" when it is directly compared next to the oled in my opinion
I didn't exaggerate, it's my personal opinion. having both in hand the one is better. When I say to not buy, I meant as long that the old one is still on sell, buy the old the old one before buying the new psvita, even if it's there first psvita.

I like to play on the 2000 (I own both) since my hands/arms feel weary on the 1000 after just 3 hours of gaming and yes the screen is not as vivid as the 1000 but you'll forget it once you're engrossed in your game, nice review though with all the pros and cons :)
Personally I think that the OLED screen better in colour etc. than the LED, but if I was to game for hours straight on the old psvita, especially at night, I think the bright contrast in lightning would really start to hurt my eyes. And considering the better features on the slim model... I think that I prefer the new version. Just my option though.

I'll probably get the 2000, let's be honest I played on a psp and whatever the vita 2000 has its better than that screen. I'll go for more ergonomic design

One common issue I've seen from the vita slim based on youtube video's and my own console is that the screen + bezel is not always perfectly centered. I can see from from your system that your screen is shifted more to the lower right, so the bezel's upper and left sides have a gap between them and the system's main body. Have you noticed it? It's not such a big deal, but my "OCD" is driving me crazy XD
I remember having the old vita the first generation one. I was wondering if this is true from what i hear that the new version is way better on the eyes when there is sunlight?
The slim isn't for existing vita owners, its for newcomers so of course oled owners wouldn't want the slim. But newcomers should get the slim because LCD screens have a much longer life span than oled, plus you get a longer battery, more comfortable design, and micro USB charging and the borderlands 2 bundle which includes a free game and memory card
I think the screen is not a problem ( It doesn't bother me to se a lightly differente color that I won't notice )
Can you compare vita 1000 and vita 2000 in their LOWERST brightness? because 95% of a time i play in my room or in a place where there little to normal SUN light.. so i always set my setting to the lowest because its already enough for me... MAX brightness is very painful and stressful to our eyes unless you play outdoor.. seriously majority of people play indoor..
I want to know when wita 1000 is set to 10% brightness, how much brightness %% the vita 2000 need to justify or equal the clarity of vita 1000? especially on dark places???.. hope you understand what im pointing out

I've had a recent horrible accident with my old vita I bought on launch day... Needless to say I need a new one and I have no qualms with getting a LCD screen. Playing freedom wars for 6+ hours and that thing gets heavy. It's not like we have a plethora of AAA games that really benefit from the oled anyways. Was it enough to upgrade beforehand? No, would I even consider it if my original wasn't damaged? No but I'll still play it and love it all the same. I'm sure after awhile I won't even notice.

I usually wait for the second version for the protable consoles I got a psp 2000 and im picking this up in a few days with a 16gb memory stick hope its enough as I only buy games on cartridges.
I was able to order the ps vita 2000 borderlands 2 bundle which comes with an 8gb memory stick from gamestop for $170 so stokked to get it in the mail.

i am a ps vita 2000 owner i have no problem with the lcd screen . marc you have problem with the lcd because you are a psvita 1000 owner so it make you like the oled screen more than the lcd screen

Awesome vid marc. I honestly was depressed when the slim version was announced. But i heard that the screen was a downgrade which is a total disappointment. And by watching your review it makes me love my old vita more. Keep doing more vids man :)

The screen isn't a downgrade. It is only a downgrade if you own both models, so therefore, everything that was upgraded is a plus. Once you took away the old vita and we were only left to look at the slim, the screen didn't look bad at all. Were not going to be holding both vitas in our hands at the same time to tell the difference so the screen is really a non-issue. I had a fat vita and hated the form factor so i got a slim. Best decision i made so far and the screen difference isn't serious, especially when i dont have the fat vita in front of me.

I'm getting the ps vita slim because my old one is having battery issues, I have full battery and then it says my battery is low and turns off by itself then I press the power button again and it turns on like if nothing happened and shows me full battery again. I could send it for repairs to Sony but since I lost my receipt when I purchased it they would charge me $150 dls just to swap the battery and put a new one. so far I like the design and I don't care about the screen quality anymore I just need to finish the games I've been playing..

Marc, the screen size is 5" which when I think about it, my phone's (Nexus 5) screen size is only 5" as well and that seems a little small for a gaming device. Does it feel different in person? Also can you game outdoors in the sunlight with this device? Thanks for the honest review
I am planning on getting a ps vita I never held one or even experienced a ps vita so now I don't know what to get I really love the slim but that screen makes it useless for me to get it my cousin has the ps vita so if I get the slim I would kinda see the difference I really don't mind having a bulky console. The battery is fine like 5 hours is fine with me but I just can't decide I wish the slim had a oled screen so PLZ ANYONE HELP I NEED OPINIONS ANYTHING!!! Plz answer
Ps vita slim or normal? I prefer a smaller console on the go but will the screen ruin it for me I saw a comparison vid between the 2 and the slim was awful I really don't know should I go with a good battery/design but bad screen or an ok battery/ little heavy but with amazing screen but not long lasting...? Still don't know what that means! xD

I don't think the screen is that bad. I honestly think its an upgrade. I respect ur opinion doe Mark. the screen is gonna be a lot easier to see in the pure sun and etc. also from different angles it looks good its easier to see. and when playing older games colors wont look over exaggerated(ps1,psp, etc). it looks fine and I like it a lot. plus I always have my screen on the darkest it can be so im fine with the darker screen

I don't think SONY would change the screen resolution due to games not being made for that res as well the hardware not being able to handle it.
Also, Marc, do you have any higher end mobile IPS/LCD displays for comparison? Like an iPhone 5 and up, the recent HTC, Nexus 7 2013 or iPad 3 and up?
How does the 2K stack up to that?
Whats the best way to clean your ps vita screen? I just got one from gamestop and it came with a microfiber cleaning cloth but it doesn't seem to help much.
I truly think possible Sony could release this in USA but with Oled. The old and new models are both $200 and the insides of the new model are not upgraded at all.
I dont really understand the memory card stuff. if you buy the actual games from walmart, will it take up less space on the memory card? the only reason i might buy this PS Vita Slim is if i dont need to keep buying memory cards. are the memory cards used to save data and games only bought on the vita from the PS Store?

The only two things I didnt like on the vita was the PS light and the Brightness. The PS light was annoying and never turns off and wish i could dim screen light a couple notches for when i play at night.

I know its been awhile since you made this video...but I recently bought a black and pink vita...I regret getting rid of my original vita that I had..its coming from japan
Main reason I didn't get a 1000: Not paying $500 on ebay for a new AC:L White model. Slim is only way I could get a white model with a reasonable price, and I do like the improved buttons and charging connector. I don't really mind the screen change, I think the colors actually look more natural on the LCD because the OLED is just really over saturated in comparison. Only reason I would have bought a 1000 (If priced normally) is because I prefer the original design of the device over the rounder, blobby shape.
For me its which is cheaper and which can i game longer on without finger pain.

Not sure I mean the slim was meant to be a cheaper alternative or something for people with PlayStation 4 to use so i doubt they are gonna remodel it again.

Yes they are, but you get used to it very fast.
