"On the back here you have this beautiful fingerprint collector. " I laughed out loud! This is sooo true tho. The entire device is haha
Yeah I feel like I need to wear gloves when ever I use my Vita.
silver ones don't show any prints
I’m so glad that there’s still content on RUclips between these two consoles
i love my 2000. ive had it for 6 years. I just jail broke it after they threatened to close the store...
Stores it’s not close u can still buy old games ps1, psp and ps vita games I just barely bought some games on ps vita store and they work well and downloaded games so it’s not close at all
I love my old fat vita I got since the very first release, am grateful that you still do guides for this lovely machine. Thank you so much 🙏🏻 more power!
I fixed your cursed number the ⁶ and the nine
DUDE WAAAAAT? I was litterally wondering this question earlier. you reading my mind man.
he always does! he reads my mind everytime. I have had this feeling like for 4 or 5 videos 🤣
I have both. To me, the OLED to LCD is not a downgrade. The Vita 1000 came out in a time when OLED screens were in their infancy and the 1000 I bought is in PERFECT condition which I purchased pre-owned loose from GameStop back in 2016. Flawless and no scratches or chips. The downside is the screen burn on the OLED screen. Very noticeable. So I purchased a 2000 to preserve my 1000. I don’t use it at all. The LCD will last much longer and to me the OLED removal doesn’t really reduce gameplay. Also the downside of the 1000 is the proprietary cable!! It was a NIGHTMARE trying to find a third party cable that would charge and transfer data. All the ones I found only charged but were missing the pin that supports data transfer. I finally found one on Amazon and purchased extras just in case the OEM takes a shit. You can’t find OEM cables for 1000 loose. I tried. On the other hand with 2000 it’s a micro usb which there are a plethora of them available that will charge and transfer data.
This is the one comment that doesn’t reek of copium by 1000 owners. My main concern is preserving the life of my handheld consoles, and after watching the video, I agree that you aren’t losing a lot going with the lcd screen. You don’t have to worry about burn-in, but more importantly, like you said, lcd screens have a much longer lifespan compared to oled.
I’d also argue the extra hour of battery life is also a noticeable upgrade; less charging and if battery degrades overtime you have one hour to make up for it.
Plus the lightweight feel is awesome, and the ‘less premium feel’ actually makes it a viable option for portable gaming and ease of mind. With the 1000, it feels like I’m holding a iPhone 13 without a screen, and also heavier on the hands.
I ended up using vitashell in ftp mode to transfer files onto my vita
I wish I even have just one 😏
I pressed thumbs up about 20 seconds in and you did not disappoint. Probably the best review video I’ve seen ! Now I know which model I want, thank you!
I've had my 1000 model for about 6 years or so and it's still going strong. Still one of my favorite handhelds. Super tempted to get the 2000 model, the colors are just too attractive, and the look of it.
The colored models are all from Japan though. The only US slim is the black one. I have the blue one in the begining of this video thinking it was a US model but it came with original box and all and everything is japanese and you have to change a lot of settings
Also I have a light green back and white front vita for sale with call of duty black ops declassified a case and screen protector installed if you're interested I've been trying to sell it since I found my blue one the internals were all just replaced I still have the ubreakifix receipts

Best comparison video I have seen…! Thanks
Hi, just wanted to say I really appreciated the high quality Camera, keep it up!
Very useful video, thanks for all the info!
I also own both and I do find the 2 gen to be much better. It feels nicer, thinner, and lighter overall. The screen difference is about 10% which isn't enough for me to choose over.
Yeah, as much as I’m a stickler for screen quality, the other factors on the 2000 won me over.
Thanks for this very informative comparison of the PS Vita’s
Head and shoulders above ALL the other comparison videos on RUclips. Thank you
I loved the look of the original 1000 but I loved my imported silver ps vita 2000 from Japan it just hits different, it looks like the PS1
I just got a PS Vita 1000. I always go for the Premium feel, so I'm happy I made the right decision.
Same. I bout a 1000 a few months ago
@@anthonykearney608 I've had mine since it came out well taken care of it's the best version available cant beat the OLED and the other benefits that the slim has are insignificant except battery which even then the battery on the 1000 was still just as good.
@@rogerarteaga2665 agreed. I havnt had any problems with the battery life. Thr oled screen was the deciding factor for me to buy a 1000 instead of a 2000. And the fact I got it for £40 was even better
Yep, same.. the 1000 is my fav. You can pick them up cheep on ebay and spend less than $100 to fix them up (new screen, back panel, battery). That's if your comfortable modding things like this, not everyone is.. :)
Same. OLED is the most important thing comparing these two models. The other point is, that the 2000 model looks very cheap bcoz of the plastic.
The 1000 looks more premium bcoz of the frame and the glass at the front, I just love it 😍
Just got a PSVita 2000 in Metallic Red. Not exactly the color I wanted but the condition was top notch and so was the price. 👌 Excited to jailbreak it and open its horizons! Thanks for these in depth and comprehensive videos, really great content! 🙏
Where did you buy it at?
@@joelddaniels EBay, from a Japanese seller that specialized in PSVitas and other video games. 👍
Sucks I also got metallic red looked like a beautiful red in the picture and I get it and it’s more of a peachish color
Great comparison, thanks.
I like looking at the Vita it just looks nice, I have the 1000, had it since release and barely used it. Now jailbroke and rocking it daily. What a nice machine.
Thank you for the video. It's very nicely explained.
I prefer the 1000, size weight convenience and battery life have never been a problem for me. Also ive put a huge memory card into my 1000 so its got thousands of games on it which should last me the next 10 years or more. I would say a plus side is to get a 2000 just to save on the memory card so you can hack it straight away. Great vid as always.
Thanks Garry!
@@RetroGameCorps 2000 u can also hack the battery pack how can we play ps2 games on vita
Thousands of games!! Jesus! What size card did you put in it?
Just get a 'Memory card' to micro SD adaptor..much cheaper/bigger
@@mrmagoo.3678 probably what he did
I like the 1000 more. Not just because of the screen. I also like the weight more and the premium feel. It feels like I have actually something in my hands and not just some cheap plastic.Edit: The 2000 model doesn’t feel as cheap as the Nintendo Switch Lite.
Lol
Same with the PSP. I Prefer the big one because it has a more premium feel and built.
I mean you can always get grips for them to make them feel more better I know for my PS Vita and when I have my switch lite I put grips on them and it make it feel way better and give it a little bit more weight but not a lot but it definitely felt better in your hands
The fit and finish of the 2000 is noticeably better than the switch lite. Heck even my galaxy n3dsxl feels more premium than the switch lite. I still like the switch lite more than the first 2 versions of the switch. Sometimes I'm tempted to get the OLED switch but that system still feels so fragile.
Depends on your wants. I value ease of mind more than ‘premium feel’, and it’s not like 2000 feels like plastic garbage.
Just what I was looking for. Gonna subscribe! Keep on the good vids
excellent comparison video
Great comparison. Love the slim, but dat OLED! Also, I don’t know if you’re planning it, but I would love to see one of your set up videos on Retroarch on Vita and your opinions/comparisons with Chinese handhelds.
This video makes me just want both models lol. Thanks for the in depth look!
Great video on the psp vita difference's 💨🔥🔥
GREAT REVIEW MAN I REALY LOVE PSP VITA 1000 AND BEEN HAPPY TO SEE UR VIDEOS REALLY ENJOY . YOU ARE GREAT.
nice video comparison.
I got 2 vita 1000, 2 vita 2000 and 1 vita tv. mostly i played my vita 2000, i also used it on remote play because i have a hori remote play grip. i used my vita tv for recording and vita 1000 for games with beautiful graphics like the vanillaware trio games.
Very detailed review thanks
Thank you for this video
I originally had the 1000 vita and yeah the screen was very nice, but i was always cleaning it eventually I got rid of it, recently I bought glacier white and I love it, the compact feel, and overall it fits better for me on my hands. I plan on picking up another one for modding and keep my white one for official games. I got my used from Japan and it is in great shape.
Lol im doing just that 🎉thanks bro
ok, that boot up did not know that 😨
Love the model 1000 👍
Waiting for your next video
It took a min but I finally got it to work! Thx dude!
Good job with the Vita content. The community is small but amazing.
Agreed!
Great review!
This video convinced me to buy both, and I'm loving the 2000 with that l2r2 grip and glass screen protector. Gave it a 256gb sd2vita and a RetroArch build, there's so much to play I carry a power bank now, I used to play on a 3ds xl, I haven't touched it in a year.
What are your thoughts about the 1000?
@@joshua7015 get it, the heft and solid build make it my preferred wizorb and music player
1000 is definitely for me. Very good video!
Nice run through thx
I have two 1000s, and now it looks like I need a 2000 too. Thank you Russ?!
solid comparison!
I bought both, excited to see how they compare in person. I used to play with my brother's PS Vita 2000, and loved how portable and slim it was. Never had a PS Vita of my own, and excited to get back into some retro games.
Wish I have even one
Top stuff as always Russ.
Thanks Jason!
I bought my 1000 at release, but it had been collecting dust until your recent series. It's now fully modded and I'm taking advantage of having enough storage space.
Even today, I can't get over how beautiful the screen is. I also think the proprietary plug has actually kept me from losing it over time. If it had a micro USB, I would have long ago pilfered it to use for some other device. Micro USBs just disappear in my house.
I was just looking at white 2000s on Amazon the other day. I do like the look of that device a lot. I don't know that I really want or need another one, though.
I just came across your video while I’m looking to get an either psp or vita and you finally helped me decide on what to get.
I want something to use while I’m away but also have many options of games. I had the 1000 long time ago so I know the feeling of it.
Thank you again! I’ll be grabbing a 2000 soon and jailbreaking it!
where r u going away to?
Thanks this video has helped me so much I’m definitely a late bloomer but I’d love to have the remote function.
I bought my 2000 on launch day, specifically because of the micro USB connector lol. The burn in issue also scared me at the time, though in hindsight I realize it’s mostly a non-issue. Still, no regrets!
You can use lcd colour space changer application to change the psvita color space range instantly. It doesn't require you to restart the vita.
I personally loved the default one. Some colors are blended especially red on that full rgb range (some different red palletes can't be distinguished).
Awesome Russ as always i managed to grab a pspgo for my collection :) I also got the psvita slim one. Now searching for the og model now for that oled screen.
I still am trying to resist the PSP Go...but I feel it coming :)
@@RetroGameCorps If you find a good deal grab it. It's such a little powerhouse and that's for sure is portable. Sony knows how to make a good portable console wish they do another one.
I got a 1000 a few months ago for dirt cheap and absolutely love it. I regret not buying one sooner. I've never liked the look of the bezel on the 2000. It only looks nice on the all white model. But the 1000 looks better overall on any color.
Me too man I regret not buying the 1000 in the first place because reviewers were saying how great the 2000 was. And me and you have the same color with that stupid black bezel sony had made some dumb decisions back then of the vita and etc.
Thank you I was planning on looking for a pavita since I was kid and I can't wait to go buy one .peace.
So when will we be expecting a video for snes and n64? I’ve been following your guides and I don’t trust anyone else. I love it and can’t wait for the next how to vita guide. Your the reason I bought a vita 1000 also😁😁☺️☺️
This video made my decision clear. Thank you I’ll be getting the 2000
Ordered one off ebay, cant wait to play ratchet and clank and jak and dexter like the og days. So excited
You know how people watch restoration videos but don't restore things themselves or watch unboxing videos of products they won't ever buy? This channel is becoming that brain therapy for me. I own zero anbernic devices, and only just recently modded my vita (because of your guides), but I still get excited to see a new video pop up on the feed. What will he be explaining today, reviewing today, or perhaps praising or trashing on squishy buttons and bad analog nubs? That's all. Have a great Friday!
Have had my Vita 1000 for 10 years now and it still runs great. I dropped it a couple years back so it has a few cracks but it doesn’t have any burn in and still lasts a few hours before needing a charge
I never got to hold one of these. The psp was my first handheld at 20 year old. I gotta pick one of these up at some point, thanks for the comparison.
Any time!
The buttons are really clicky. Also him, talking over the sound. Loved the video.
Also setups should really have an open saying, yeah man "let's do this" or "nah Bro I needto sleeponit."
I have an Aqua Blue Vita that I got brand new in 2018 from Japan. I want the OLED model now for Modding and retro gaming
Still have my 1000 from launch - I remember pre-ordering it and even dreaming about it the week prior to release - LOL. I loved my PSP so much but was incredibly psyched for the Vita and then I couldn't get my 2 favorite games for it until I finally modded it like 2 weeks ago.
I got a silicone sleeve for my 1000 series and it really helps protect my device. I suggest others do the same. I got mine in blue which looks great in contrast with black.
Where did you get it? What’s it called?
I bought my 2000 almost immediately after it quietly entered the us market cause it was pretty cheap relative to the phat at the time. I’m usually a phat PlayStation kind of person, with the psp and ps2 being examples, but I like the fact that it has internal memory, better battery life, and an lcd screen instead of oled (I know it doesn’t look as good but lcds use less power and are cheaper to replace and more reliable to begin with). I also find it more comfortable to hold, but the 1000 did have a better build quality. It’s overall more streamlined and modern and uses usb instead of that proprietary shit.
I love the 2000 I recently broke it back out and installed a permanent jailbreak as opposed to the h encore I was running for years. Overclocking makes it so much better to play lol
I've had my psvita 1000 for 10 years and it's still amazing i have 4gb and the same 4 games i've played them for the whole duration of the 10 year's
Great presentation & comparison ... Many thanks for your time & effort, plus good commentary along the way ... I am still debating in my mind whether i should buy a 2nd PSP 2004 or take the plunge and buy a Vita 2000 instead ... Yes, i believe that the Slim versions of both handhelds are better overall than the originals and i know what U R talking about having a microfiber cloth to keep the Vita 1000 clean all the time - the PSP has the same piano black glossy plastic allover, lol ... Overall, i would have liked to see in your vid also comparing the speaker quality, as well as both touch screens responsiveness between both Vitas - would have made the vid more complete - as well as (maybe?) a performance comparison, while emulating more systems, besides the mega-man U demonstrated ... Thanks again & thumbs-up ...
Still have my 1000... 8 years and still going.
i own both a 1000 and a 2000 ,love em both, each holding one half of my collection.
i've got two OLED Vitas and love them. i replaced the screen on one of them and it was pretty easy to do, plus some of the sellers on Ali Express sell genuine OEM OLED screens for around £14 only!
That’s a good price!
@@RetroGameCorps how to mod your PSVita 2000 with an OEM OLED screen video coming? 🥰
Really thorough breakdown. I thought I wouldn't like the transition between the 1000 and the 2000 due the latter not having an OLED screen but the other changes they implemented made a world of difference. I share your sentiment that the 2000 is just so much more comfortable than the 1000. The flat top of the vita 1000 along with its weight made long play sessions more tiring. Reducing the back touchpad area in the 2000 also prevented me from accidentally activating it in games that made use of it. My cat knocked my vita 2000 off my desk but i was pleasantly relieved that it was still intact meanwhile my 1000 fell off the bed and even with a case and screen protector the glass managed to crack. I'm not knocking the 1000 i loved it when i had it because i really wanted one since day 1. I went through 3 vita 1000 and 2 vita TV's before settling on 2000 model and now it's kinda my favorite handheld next to my switch and n3dsxl.
I see a new Retro Game Corps video. I Like.
I'd like to get my hands on a Vita phat. Just to feel the difference to the 2000. I've the same blue one as Russ.
Japanese/Asian circle = OK
I love my ps vita 2000. Except I didn't know it was a 2000 since I bought it 7 years ago, until I saw this video. Mind blown how much the homebrew scene has gotten better since then.
It's always good to have an extra device in storage for any possible future use or as an investment...👌🏼💯✔
I've seen your past Vita videos and it's really interesting how much time and effort you put into researching your items. You're almost like me spending so much time and money to get the best of the best. I've got 4 PS Vitas so far but I got a 5th one coming in early next week (if the seller ships it soon). To answer your question, I prefer my red 1k model since it has a great display and a lovely glittery red color all around. The blue 1k is even better than I thought! However, I may be into my blue 2k model and may transfer all my games there since the feel is so different that I wanna keep testing it.
Edit: Since you've done an in depth comparison, you need to know that the black 11xx model you have is a bit heavier than the regular 1xxx model. If you manage to get yourself a PSVSD module (which is hard to get) for your 11xx model then you should make a video on how to install it :) This is great for physical game collectors and there are loads of those people. I hope to hear your response soon or better yet, have a one on one talk.
Since you have bought so many, do you have any recommendations on where to buy a Vita? I’ve been searching on several apps/sites and have found many options but the majority of course come from Japan which has benefits as well as concerns. Just wondering if you had a go-to place place to get a reasonable price for a Vita in good condition and if you had any tips or warnings about buying them in general. Thanks!
@@stephnicole3078 I would recommend ebay if you're in the USA. I would watch out for a seller called lucky_eight_trading. 50/50 chance the Vita you buy from that seller might scratched a lot or turn out really good. That seller doesn't update the photos but has a better price than most sellers.
@@nonameset696 I’ve noticed that looking at reviews. Thanks for the warning. It’s so hard to find trustworthy sellers on EBay.
@@stephnicole3078 What I've done is just look at sellers with less reviews and look at their photos for the Vita. They seem more genuine than the sellers with over 400+ reviews on their profile. I'm just speaking from experience but that could be different for you.
You made me retrieve my vita from storage box lol. Forgot how much I love this device
Same!! I pulled it out after watching these videos. Getting ready to mod it 😁

Appreciate the content, I'm just looking to buy a second vita, let's see
Jack and dexter was my favorite game on ps vita. I losed my vita since 2014. my mom just found it for me today. it still looks brand new. the vita remains my favorite hand held console. i played soo much fun games and music on it
That's awesome you got it back!
The new logo rocks!
Thanks Leo!
Have the OLED model for 11 years still going strong, very well built and sturdy as I dropped it many times and I putting in a pocket during hottest summertime playing it while my hands sweating and I incorrectly stored it in a room that gets over 35 degrees on average Celsius which melted parts of the analog sticks rubber off yet it still going.
I still play PS1 classics on it from time to time, what a device.
I can't say the same to Switch its chronic sticks drifting issue is all you need to know about its build quality, plastic on it also felt cheap enough that I never felt comfortable to play without some kind of protective case or silicon over it.
I will get another Vita soon as mine looks like bread crumbs now on the edges.
2000 guy here. I've had 3 Vitas and probably 30+ PSPs that I've fixed and rehomed before...and I don't know if I've got bug eyes or something, but I never could go to the 1000 after experiencing the feel of the 2000. It's my favorite daily carry, and the main reason I've never gotten an RP3+ or Deck.
You know this is a serious review when the vernier caliper comes out 🤣🤣
I have ps vita 1000 and 2000(slim second edition).i agree with your comparison, same with my opinion and i'm really like my white ps vita 2000.its so cool.
Yeah the white 2000 is insanely beautiful 😎
Just as a sidenote, despite all of its benefits, the OLED screen might become an issue in a couple of years if you use your device heavily.
There is a ton of coverage by now of the so-called mura effect all OLED screens suffer from as a part of their inherent design (just search for "mura oled vita"), burn-in effects and loss of overall contrast. This might even be a reason why the PS Vita 2000 might be the better option in terms of longevity, but only time will really tell for sure.
Well you are half right, newer oled panels basically never get this issue. But the Vita was using very early oled technology its quite different from the new panels from say LG or even the switch OLED. So yeah the Vita 1000 can inhibit those flaws you mentioned.
i have had my psvita since day one and never have gotten problems w it

I think i like the lcd better , just looks brighter and more vibrant
Russ, please do a guide like this for 3ds!
I'm not Russ but I'd go with the XL Version over the Normal Version, also definitely go with the New Series as its faster and you can play more games on it, So I recommend going with New Nintendo 2DS XL as its cheaper than New Nintendo 3DS XL, and also the top screen has this nice looking bezel that camouflage with the screen itself, I never used the 3D feature anyway as it made me feel sick and the camera can't track my face for the 3D Tracking because my room is dim but if you want to, you can go with New Nintendo 3DS XL.
TL;DR Go with New Nintendo 2DS XL, but if you want the 3D feature then go with New Nintendo 3DS XL.
The issue with the proprietary cable isn't the inconvenience of having more cables, it's getting a replacement when the cable eventually breaks.
Also, the OLED isn't really strictly a benefit, I bought my Vita 1000 at launch and the screen has gotten super dim over the years, which is a common occurence with early OLED panels.
It was a NIGHTMARE trying to find a replacement third party cable that supports both charging and data transfer. There are a bunch I found on Amazon but 5 different cables from 5 different manufacturers did not support data transfer. I finally found a third party manufacturer that makes the cable both charge and supports data transfer. I bought like 3 or 4 extras lol. It’s also very hard to find an OEM cable loose. Probably more expensive now if there are some or they will inly come attached with a Vita.
@@guitarboyjeff what brand of cable? I want to stock up too.
Thanks for making this. You helped me choose between the 1k and 2k. I actually prefer the LCD screen, and seeing it in person, it is beautiful.
I have mine in a case with l2 r2 buttons, helps with finger prints.
I got a 2000 one, exactly because of its practicality, I wanted a replacement for my PSP and with Adrenaline I have that covered but yeah, I wanted something to pocket and take out to play so I don't mind for premium fell as I wasn't looking for a museum piece.
I also have both and prefer the slim 2000. But I still love the 1000 and play it occasionally.
This is awesome, I'm glad you enjoy your Vitas.
I have a PS Vita 2000 but its a Japan Import (i hate the X and O switched) So i just bought a PS Vita 1000 PCH-1001 yesterday and a bit hyped to get that one.
i prefer the natural warm tones of the 2000 screen, plus it gets so much dimmer so it doesn't feel like my retinas have been burned out by a radioactive lens flare when i play at night.
I just got a 1000 and I think I will be happy with my purchase.
