Happiness is a new Shug video
It was some good happiness for me to be out there. Thankee.
Man, always brings a smile to my face watching your adventures. Great start to my day, Shug!
Appreciate that~!
I lived in Ely for three years and never saw a moose. You have to be in the right place at the right time. Good for you!
I got lucky that morning for sure~~
After watching your video's, I realized I've been doing cooking in the back country all wrong. Thanks for making me hungry and inspiring me to be more creative in on the stove!
Much easier on a canoe trip. Don't have to carry it on your back all day.
Got my dad and brother hooked on the boundary waters. My pops watches these videos constantly waiting for our next trip. BWCAW will give you the reset in life we all need from time to time.
Worth getting hooked on!!!
Taking my first solo BWCA trip this year. I can not wait for the total reset in life and the tranquility of complete silence. Hoping to photograph Aurora too.
@justinbrown1934 I use to guide if you want tips or tricks to make it easier but if you're going solo I assume you kinda got it down
Hanging on my Warbonnet, eating honey roasted cashews and watching Shug’s adventures with ipad. How could it be better? Greetings from Finland, Shug!🫡
Kittos! Ooooo kaveri)))))))
My family tell me that I have Cherokee blood in me as well. I look even more fair than you but my sister is very tan and has serious cheek bones. I think she stole all my native from the womb before I was born. That Moose feeding was so incredible. THANK YOU so much for taking us on your adventure. I will love you forever my friend. You are beautiful! thank you
Same with my older sister.
Seeing that bull moose was a brilliant moment for sure. Paddling to east portage on Snipe through the narrows. Early morn and water like glass. Quiet. The come around the bend and there was the bull moose just munching away. Relaxed. I was pretty close. Shaking with excitement at first. He'd to quit filming to take a few calming breaths. We hung out enjoying each other. As I paddled away he was still in the water eating.
@@shugemery that was quite a happining, thanks for the description. I would say that you could write a book, but it might take away from your videos. I wouldn't want Shug to get burned out! The jovial laid back party feel is just too great. Party on Garth
What a treat seeing that moose, awesome adventure.
Truly a gift~~!
Life is good out here . . . no truer words ever spoke. Much abliged for the tag along Mr. Emery
It is Good and quiet. Peace looms.
Glad you got out to do this trip Shug! Actually, I think a bit of rain adds character to any trip! The canoe looked awesome too. A great solo, different from hiking along on land, very different perspective! Loved the Moose in full velvet antlers! Take care old buddy, and traverse the planet for those of us who would love to join you someday!
Best -

I do so agree. We spend most time getting out of the rain.

Sorry I'm late to the party, another great video, as a lifetime canoeist I love watching enjoy the paddle life.
I am embracing the paddle life. Yessir.
Beautiful frog at 5:04! Thanks for sharing Shug! (that's a mouthful)
62 is the new 40 (because 52 is the new 30...that be me :) MANY, MANY, MANY more years of trips in store for us!
So 64 is the new 58? My math skills are abhorrent.
Had a reservation for a guided BWCA trip some years back, had to cancel,so
Finally I’m going, vicariously, via you! I own a single old town canoe, have enjoyed endless solo
paddles on small lakes in northern Michigan. But to canoe BWCA, ahhh that’s 😎🙏
Hoping you get to fulfill that dream~~~~
Now that looks like a right proper canoe trip with a sprinkling of lollygag!
I may just leave backpacking behind me......
Love this series Shug and glad you got out to do this for yourself. Life is indeed better out in the woods and on the water.
So much better~
They sure make you look like a King there. Very nice trip Shug I enjoyed very much. Thank you.
More like a Lord....Lord of Lollygag~~!
So what I needed-adventure, positive attitude, beautiful nature and humor. Thank you.
Happy to serve that up~~!!
Love the moose, that was a real treat!

Always enjoy your productions. Thank you
mucho appreciato!
What an absolute treat; a brand new Shugemery video!
Thankee man.....
Watching your vids brings me back to pre COVID days when things were great. Your a good man and thank you for taking us along it's like therapy watching your videos.
I thought things were great in 1974~!
Beautiful videography especially liked the time lapse of the clouds…so happy for you that you got to spend some time with a moose munching!! Always fun to hear where your gifted snacks come from too! Thanks for sharing your beautiful adventure💚
The moose munching moment was magnificent.
Beautiful area . Love the tarp , fungus , flora , MOOSE and Eagle !! Man that was sweet ... bg
It really is. And 5 hours from me!
@@shugemery Man , wish it was that close to me . Lucky guy !
Soooo happy you finally canoed the BWCA.
Thanks...I did a 5 day solo last year though! Amazing.
Gotta say, I know you’re primarily a backpacker but I LOVE your canoe trip videos!
I am transitioning a bit. Will do more canoeing. But will always backpack.
Hi Shug, I wanted to say thanks for all your videos over the years they are hands down my favorites. I bought a Superior Gear hammock for winter camping and slept outside in 35 below up in the BWCA and it performed great and you were the one that put me on to them.
Yessir...no joke there! Whooooo Buddy))))
You're reminding me what a 64 yr old is still capable of doing! Love your videos of your adventures (even the culinary ones!) Thanks for all you do for the community!
I owe it to my Geritol!
Love the canoe vids! I like seeing all the extra gear you can bring..best wishes for a peaceful summer!
Thankee feller~~
Wonderful solo trip
Thankee~~
64 and feel the same blessing of health. Good trip up north.
We are fortunate~~!
This looks like a grand adventure! I thoroughly enjoy your hiking vids, but this is a nice change.i hope you had fun. Thank you for sharing it with us. You truly are a national treasure!
Thankee. I did do a 5 day canoe solo last year. Loved it!
Love your adventures, Shug! So glad to see you out there! You bring much enjoyment you us all!!
Happy too! Whoooooo Buddy))))
What a good start to your adventure. The wildlife was great and your food was too. Take care, Al
Enjoyed it all. All I say!!
Awesome trip so far. Always good to see a Swamp Donkey ( AKA Moose ) 🇨🇦
I'll be using that term now for sure 'eh?
What a day. I still have never seen a moose in the BWCA and I go a multiple times every year. The quality of food is so much better when you have a canoe to haul it for you.
I got lucky for sure. Really surprised me.

Looked like some good times Shug. Thanks for the update.
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
Sure looked like an awesome canoe trip. Already looking forward to part 2! Thanks for sharing!
Whooooooo Buddy))))
Excellent video, Mr Shug. That's a beautiful canoe.
Was a very lively canoe. Like an F1 car.
We always go through Tuscarora every Memorial day. Good people!
Real good. Nice up that way.
Thank you for sharing Shug ☺️ Always appreciate your videos and adventures 🤠
I appreciate your top hat~
wooh buddy! It's so great to see you doing some canoeing! Thank you as always for sharing your joy with us. You are a gift.
Whooooooo Buddy))))
Congrats on that incredible Moose footage!! I had to watch it several times, what a beautiful creature! Thanks for sharing your experience, Shug.
Was truly a notable and amazing 20 minutes hanging out.
Great adventure Shug. Can’t wait for part 2. Greetings from Ontario Canada
Whooooooo Buddy)))) 'eh
Seeing these videos makes me miss the north woods of Wisconsin and Minnesota
I get that!
It's always fun to see the different treats that your European friends send your way.
I know, right. They bring my palate joy in the woods.
HEAVENLY - thank you so much for taking us along. Really appreciate the "extra" work for us to see a shugemery video up to watch. Goes great with my Medaglia D'oro this morning! ATB Shug
Whoooooo Buddy))))....Be Awake
Excellent trip Shug. Loving watching you paddle through some of my favorite lakes, and I laughed long and hard when you ended the video on the big rock site on Cherokee. If we ever meet, I have a hell of a story about that site.
I loved that site. The tale will have to wait I reckon.....
Good food, great views, amazing wildlife, looking forward to seeing more.
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
Awesome Shug! Good to get to see you again! We got to be in the BWCA a few weeks ago and enjoyed every second! My wife even let out a few "all secure in sector 7" during the trip lol. Wishing you and your family the best!
Haaa. I was just feeling the groove on day 5 so I get it~!!!!
I needed this today....thanx. I've always had my best sleep with the rain hitting the tarp while in my hammock. 🌌
It is such good slumber then. pit pat tic and pit.
Hey Shug, so great to see you out and having fun again. Thanks for sharing, happy tails.
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
I look forward to a possible canoe trip video from you every year, job well done. Thanks Shug!
I do aim to do more canoe trips. Beats walking all day!!
Thanks for all your wonderful videos. I enjoyed seeing the footage from Tuscarora Lodge. Bunkhouse and breakfast at the dining hall is a great way to start a trip.
Real nice place there and such a good way to start a trip.
Always enjoy your videos. You're right about being thankful we can still do this stuff. I'm same age as you and I still love getting out there. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate you taking time to shoot, edit and share your videos. Take care.
Feel good for you too then.....geezers gettin' it done!!!! Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Wow great capture of the moose so cool!!tks for another great video shug!!
It was such a surprise to come across that bull. What a 20 minutes!
I really enjoyed the video! I like that you video the little details like the butterflies, turtle and mushrooms! First Moose was a real surprise! Gramma Bull would be proud of all your adventures! Thanks!

You're becoming a regular canoe head. Great to see you on the water again. Good choice of boats. Extra sharp on apple slices...goodness gracious that would be fine dinning!
Thankee and Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Good to see you having some fun!! Looking forward to getting out myself!
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
Haha the plopp bar! What a right tasty teeny little treat! 🥳 And that moose, wow! And the peacefulness. And the great looking food. And all the beautiful wildlife. What a beautiful trip.
They sure are! I ordered some more.
Really enjoyed this outing.
Thanks for the video
Thanks always commenting!
At 14:39 nice turtle! Wow you really saw all kinds of wildlife!
Shug , it's been a few years since I said this to you but it's worth repeating.
Your photographic skills are just amazing. God bless you my friend
I do appreciate that Tim.
You knocked the cooking out of the park this trip. And a moose having a salad lunch!!!
Pretty simple really. But I did nail those pancakes I will admit~
Go get ‘em Shug! Can’t wait for next episode.
Righto~~ Whoooooo Buddy))))
Wow, what an awesome trip! Thanks for sharing...
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Thanks for the great video Shug! I’m actually watching this video while I’m making a new Fancy Feast stove.
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Cool trip. Thanks for taking us along.
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
Been lurking on your site for a few years Shug. You're a inspiration and joy to watch. Been enjoying your BWCA treks, keep on with the awesome content.
I go for the quiet!
@@shugemery My wife said she totally went fangirl on you in the bakery, lol!🤣
Any outdoor adventure with you Shug is officially on my bucket list.
Whooooooo Buddy)))))
Love the video Shug, I love backpacking and watching your backpacking videos … but now you got me think’n, Canoepacking, Whooo Buddy!!
Sure eat better on a canoe trip. Don't have it on your back all day. Portages seem easy to a backpacker.
Aw man you getting me excited. Canoeing in August and Backpacking in early Oct and It's gonna be epic. I love the differences in the hike vs the canoe...so much to enjoy...Peace!
Glad to pump you up 🛶
I live for your videos this was FANTASTIC
Live for Love. Just endure my videos....haaaa
Awesome! Needed this while I'm stuck in the house!
Thanks for sharing your journey! You must be in some kind of shape to portage with the canoe and a backpack full of 7 days of food and gear! Love the tarp, looks like I'm about due for an upgrade :)
Well I do double portages. In no huge rush and I like the woods walk after all the water.
MOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSE!!!That was amazing!!!! Moose in the mornin Eagle in the evenin Beaver at supper time!!! Hey Shug I’m in your neck of the woods for the rest of the week. Flew in from North Cack-ah-lack this mornin and I think the hot weather followed me up here! Great video! Can’t wait for Part 2!! Don’t know if you ever visit the city or not. A Shug sighting would make me life complete!
You brought the swelter. Today was nice. The weather folks always try to alarm us about the weather. Beaver in part 2!
Rarely in the city. Unless I go to theater or such.
Hey shug😊awsome trip. I also love to go paddling. Nice to se you out there 👌
Hey Tommy and Lilli....man, I love my lil' table. Danke~~!
Loved this and can't wait for the follow up.
Thanks Maggie....
Thanks for the work of putting together another great BWCA trip, Shug. My eight year-old loves your videos, as well; he says to tell you that "you got him into camping". We'll pay homage as we pass by enroute to Crosslake on Saturday, and hopefully my own solo trip will happen in September.
Homage accepted~~ Great trip to ya'll.
Another wonderful trip report! Thanks for letting us live vicariously through ya.
Prudence and the rest of the fam and I are going on our first trip in the BWCA next year, cant wait! She'll be almost 2 years old by then!
That'll give you something to look forward too. How is Duluth life?
@@shugemery Its awesome! Still getting settled in but its nice to have a much quicker drive to get up into the woods.
Great tour. The moose was special. Thanks
Was a thrilling moment for me!
What the Shug? A new video 👍 I know that it will be awesome, as all of yours are. Thanks man!
Yessir!
Thank you once again Mr Emery for another bwca adventure...
Happy to serve~~!
My kind of trip: quiet, simple. You just drift through and observe. And you make your food look good. I worry too much about weight and skimp on flavor on those long trips, but it looks worth the tiny bit of extra heft. Thanks for sharing.
Gotta take time to see. On backpacking trips I'd never eat like that. Canoeing....not toting it all day. Seems easy enough to me to eat well.
Always a pleasure to watch your vids Shug. Coming up in late Sept near the Sawbill put-in. And here I thought 62 made me the geezer in the neighborhood....
Great time of year...sorta old man! haaaa
Thanks Shug, reminds me of my trips down the Allagash and Saint John rivers...fond memories indeed.
That was during the pre interweb and cell phone days...68 and still chuggin along...its been a few years since my last solo trip down the Missouri, still bagging the peaks though...taker easy, but taker!...woods
Keep on chugging.....
Love the footage of the moose!!! Love your videos!!!😊

Hi Shug. Beautiful as always. You make me happy, man, you can see that you are enjoying everything in your form. And if the cookie Kolonáda, I'd be happy to contribute at least a little for it. Take care of yourself . Say hello to Meg. Milan.
Zdravím a děkuji za náplast na houpací síť!
Adventure! Seems like a requirement to have pancakes on a canoe trip.
You tote that boat with ease.
Enjoyable watch...needed for you and all of us.
Love that you even comment here.
Canoe was an easy tote. Lighter than my head!
WoW quite a journey my friend! it is a pleasure to follow you across the lakes! Merci Shug
My pleasure to bring you along....Whoooooo Buddy))))
@@shugemery merci 🙏
Thanks, Shug!! Not going to be able to make it up there this year, so it's nice to get a taste of it from your videos.
Happy to help. Too busy>??
Yah, You know how it is, life sometimes gets in the way of being in the woods. I do appreciate your videos though. They lift my spirit. Thank you.
Shug great adventure as always.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
loving seeing you out in the fun again Shug
Thankee~~
Thank you so much for sharing shug!
My pleasure to share video....but not my candy!!! haaaaa
Whooooo Buddy, look at all those animals on your trip!!!!!
and more to come in part 2~~!
Thank you for taking us along! Nice shout out to Mr. Marty G! Nice to know that his memory lives on in the woods when we use his gear!
Righto Marty~~~
SAVED BY THE SHUG !! You posted this video in the nick of time Shug. I was getting so tired of the same old thing on RUclips , bad news here and there and the same b.s. It's good to see you enjoying the outdoors getting away from it all. Peace and quiet out by yourself and some good food to boot. The real thing for sure. I liked it so much that I watched it twice. Rock on brother ! One more thing , I noticed that you use a Fancy Feast alcohol stove. I love them they're great and I made one for each of my family members (8 in all).
Whooooooo Buddy)))) The Fancy Feest has been my go yo stove for years. Always for breakfast from the hammock!
Holy cow! Yes that Moose is a treat.

What a grate trip. That Moos was AWSOME!!! Be safe out there can't rate for part two. :)
Top notch time...thankee.
