My daughter just told me..."Do you know what to do if you are attacked by a group of Clowns?......Go for the Juggler...." :)
Never tire of that joke. Jugglers are wiry though. Better to go for the magician.
Loved the scenery and your camping sites Just beautiful. And as always just love you being you. Keep on keeping on Shug
It feels so good to just go out and have the time.
Every time I hear the word early, I immediately repeat EARLY!!! Shug I've been following you for so many years. You're a light to the world. Woooooo Buddy!

Disappointed .... I was not. Another great vid and the music was, as usual, a welcome addition.
Righto and thankee Dan.

Thankee Don
I love the sound of rain on a tarp. Thanks for sharing Shug!
Especially when your dry and sipping a hot brew.
good music (love it) and enjoyable scenery, thx shug
Thank you.
Love the music! Watching the duck at the reminded me of the "nature" portion of the "Sunday Morning " show.
Thankee.
I always enjoy seeing your adventures in the piney woods. Enjoy many more happy trails, brother!
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Shug, your adventures take me to my most favorite state and places! Your passion for the outdoors is contagious! God bless you for making these videos! I can’t wait to get back to the north woods soon! Be safe! Best wishes!😀🙏🏻
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Loving the views on your hiking trip
Good night,Sir Shug! That was quite the rain!
Snowbank Trail...Awesome Shug 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Last trip for a bit. A goodie it was.
Great trip. And perfectly placed tunes. Thanks for sharing. Have a good one.
Appreciate that.
That heat and humidity is no joke. Just keep it moovin' Shug, you're doing fine. 😄
Yessir!
Okay I am now quite jealous
absolutely beautiful views and that lake I bet there's damn good fishing in there as well
Big fish jumping. I may take up fishing sometime.
Sweet shot of those Loons! Man I think the Carribou Rock Trail is calling my name! Don't know why , this video just made me think of it. Thanks brother!
Good hike that.
We did this same trip last year Shug! Nice to see it from your perspective.
Dang good challenging walk. Glad you got to traipse it.
Your ok shug, your sillyer than me. You still flying your planes. Man when I was younger I had so much fun flying those planes in the school yard and my grampas field. When I see you flying, it brings back good memories.❤❤
Good times. Great memories.
@@shugemery They sure wrere.👍👍👊👊
Shug. You make my day by posting going out while I am stuck in the concrete jungle
Enjoy tar-town as much as you can.
back to your roots, a good thing. cheers from so ca.
Back to my rocks as well!
Love seeing this Shug! I spent half the summer on Snowbank in 1999 working at Jackpine Lodge (no longer there). I cleaned many many lake trout that summer. Took a few canoe campers over to Disappointment portage. Amazing country in them parts 😀
Cool to hear that.
Digging this immensely ❤️
When you spoke about the punk sticks and the bugs, I saw your Aura. It was like a Bob Ross painting, Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, Cyan, and Magic White (could be Zinc Oxide).
gonnaseemaplekingnowokbye
I do glow a bit out there. Could be my lack of tan!
Watched your hammock vids years ago and was reunited w/ your jovial persona on the Backpacking Radio podcast. So, totally had to watch your circus vid - impressive life story and it was great to hear you talk about it so openly on the podcast. Have had a few friends paddle the BWCA and my take was, I might like to backpack around those lakes if that's a thing. So now I know! Nice "real" backpacking video. Big thanks to you Shug, I bought a Warbonnet Blackbird after watching your videos (circa 2011) and still use it when trail conditions are right. I have been singing the Blackbird praises for year- sweet hanging hammock and yes, great to sit back and sip a cup of Joe in the morning. Hope to hang in the BWCA one day. Side note, also a Sean here and mother's maiden name is Shaughnessy ("O" was dropped at Ellis Island). Highland Way is on the bucket list! Ok, now on to part two.
I truly love the Warbonnet bugnet design. Away from face and gives back support sitting sideways. Whooooo Buddy)))))
This was a very nice and calming video Shug, I just finally upgraded to the Dutchware Chameleon with the Warbonnet Underquilt and it has completely transformed a good nights sleep after 7 years of sleeping in a Hennessy Hammock. I added a Tensa4 stand as well for my motorcycle trips and it's just pure bliss when I get to set up camp anywhere. Thanks to you for all the great videos explaining everything.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
4:01 to 4:21, pure zen. Thanks for taking us along, Shug. WB!!!
Embrace the Zen I am. When I can.
That 1st foggy morning at the lake I was hoping to see Nessie swimming around. Maybe she did and you're keeping the secret safe ; )
Wooo Buddy 40 degree mornings are far off for me. Good stuff
She was out there I feel.
Yay club bars classic always had one in my school pack lunch as a kid ...cheers shug
Good lunch I say!
I love that Shug blues. Whoooooo buddy, you look contented. With an orange club who wouldn’t. Mint ones good too 👍
Thank you and yes, the mint is sooo good too.
I was up there two years ago for a canoe trip. Such a beautiful place. Hoping to go back this fall or next year!
The quiet is worth it for sure.
Thanks, I really enjoy your videos.
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Nice music all the way through this video Shug!
Thanks so much.
thanks man, good to see one of Marty's SS quilts hanging in the BWCA. good times!
Got them last summer. Will miss that guy.
@@shugemery me too brother, thanks again.
Big change in temperature from hot and humid to cooler and rain shows how prepared you are with clothing and kit. Thanks Shug for allowing us to tag along. 👍
It is known to change quickly up there for sure. And it does!
Just what I needed to watch this morning. I've hiked up in the mountains and it's good your using the zinc - - better safe than sorry - - that's just the look of someone enjoying the outdoors. Thanks for the ride along🎪
The zinc does a real good job too.
@@shugemery your right it does - when I was in the mountain's the only thing that got sunburnt was the part of my scalp that wasn't covered by my scarf - - next time I'll wear a hat
Shug, just driving away from Ely. We camped on Ensign just north of Snowbank. R&R weekend trip. We had a blast, rocked the Eno and Chrysalis. I also brought that Off fan and it kept the skeeters at bay! Be good Shug and thanks!
Great area. So good you got out there.
Hahaha ahhhh, how I love you, brother. Safe travels
I thankee.
I love these most excellent lollygag hikes.
Was the last for a while I reckon.
Awesome a new video! I recently bought your hoodie For the backwood hood! It should be coming in tomorrow or the next day. Ha ha whoooo Budddy
Thankee for the support~~~~
I hiked that loop 50+ years ago. The only thing that didn’t change was the rock. All the big trees are gone. Time.... thanks for sharing. Terry&ThePirates
Terry...who are the Pirates? Are you a band?
shugemery Hay Shug. The pirates are my many friends and email subscribers. Your one of the pirates also. Terry&ThePirates
I have a short thumb, a gummy eye and a gnat on my shoulder.
I'm loving it. Heading over to The Mapleking website now.
It is working but still in the works!
As always I enjoy your videos Shug and as a fellow introvert it makes it easier to relate to the way you see things.
I've been meaning to thank you for a while now for entertaining me twice when you were with the circus, there's nothing like the circus in the world these days.😔
Thanks. Only an introvert can spend that much time alone. I do enjoy people but a solo trip is refreshing
Beautiful huards (loons) at 18:42! Thankee!
Great shots of the loon! Really cool
They presented!
that rock was pretty cool..it looked like a face on the left side..that area looks so cool..great trip report...when low miles are challenging you turn in early..
All true.
Um wait a second u r a clown. Thanx fer adventures😂😁😀💜genious!& perfect pitch🐝
Tis true. I know of what I speaketh.
Nice one Mr E. IMO that black BB cap is you ! Hate losing trail while solo . After one scary night lost off trail, I always carry 5 bright fluorescent, shocking pink ribbons. I do not use them everytime I lose the trail , but if I have tried a couple of directions and still not found it , especially in a area that all looks the same I do !!! I tie them on 4 corners of a tree that is on the trail , and circle around looking for the trail ALWAYS keeping at least one ribbon in sight . When I find the trail I tie a 5th one to a tree there . They weigh nothing and having made my lost trail times much less stressful !! In a group , always leave one person ON the trail while others look !! Been many places where there have been lost hiker(s) , Whites , LVG , Pictured Rocks , MNF, RMNP etc etc . It is very easy to do . May take the kids advice and get one of them newfangled Garmin things .Stay safe , now let me C.O maple King :D bg
I hear you. I use the same wagon-wheel technique when a bit off trail.
Shug, your video has answered one of the most asked questions...
Question: Why do loons have such an odd _(some would say haunting)_ call?
Answer : If you were swarmed with gnats and mosquitoes, you'd sound like that too.
Righto...never knew the bugs swarmed them like that.
Canoed through there several times. Love that place.
Always inspires me. Whoooooo Buddy)))))
I love everything about this video. Heck of a wolf call. I noticed you also ha e that little insect card hanging above your hammock. Looks like you're using everything lol what a lovely place. And chocolate/orange....winning combination. Gonna check out Hickory's site. Thanks so much!!
I love orange sherbet with chocolate sauce on it. Try that.
@@shugemery ohhhh imma gonna!! 😊
You're making it hard for us to stay home, watching you out and about and -- wait, what? themapleking.com is open? Sustained whimsy. I love it!
Open but still not all active. I jumped on this trip. None for a spell now....
As the Saying goes here , Be with you in Two Ticks and that means......... Early !!! Another great trip always like the tarp lazy mans water collection delightfully watery :)
Haaaa~~~~ EARLY
The raving loon has been on the
Poitin again. lol. Great vid buddy.
Too much fun does it too me.
Here in Pennsylvania we dont get those kind of treats. I averaged about 1.74 my last hike and I thought I'd be up around 2 miles an hour lol. You are one entertaining fellow! Cant wait to camp this weekend .
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Great job with the video Shug and I'll have to check out the Boundary Waters area someday. Now I'll have to check out the Maple King's site!
He awaits you....
@@shugemery Shug this is my part 2 of 3 series for my 215 mile SHT hike if you have the time to watch. I loved your Boundary Waters videos that you just did and I'm looking forward to your next adventure :) ruclips.net/video/h5RqF_BGH-E/видео.html
I thought I'd pass along this recipe since you're the guy that got me into liking PackIt Gourmet.
I tried that Poblano Corn Chowder BUT added a small container of the Phillips Crab meat from the store which turns it into the best seafood bisque! Oh man that was so good!
That does sound scrumptious!
That's some pretty righteous blues for an old white guy Shug. ;-)
I ain't white-white...haaaaa!
Such a beautiful place 😍😍😍😍 Thanks again for another amazing video 😊! PS: I went back on the video and couldn't see anything on your face, but even if it was there, you're still awesome 👍👍🤘🤘!!
At least someone did not notice! Thankee Deb.
@@shugemery 🤗🤗🤗!
3:30 Seen a few wolves in the wild up around Snowbank and Moose Lakes. So magical to see them in the wild
Yeah those clouds at 3:00 seem ominous... And thundery!
Wilderness Logics, never got around to ordering my quilt and now I never will be able to get one. But I do love my Tadpole Tarp. RIP Marty :(
Miss 'em too.
If you get lost off trail, just keep yodeling, someone will find you! 😎🤘🙃
Mighty lonely out there~~~~~~
@@shugemery If a man's alone in the woods, and his wife isn't there to hear him speak, is he still wrong?
Thank you Shug!
Y'elcome.
Awesome Loon footage
Thankee.
You got some singin' and pickin' going on in this video Shug!
I add some in from time to time.
I attempted that loop about 15 years ago on July 4th. I pulled a few dozen ticks off my shoes and socks in one sitting. The trail was completely overgrown and I lost the trail and fell in a hole. Combined with a log freshly ripped apart by a bear, heavy equipment, and 90° temps, I pulled the cord after night 1. I'm surprised I ever backpacked again.
I hear ya'.
Those Club biscuits used to be a lot bigger in the 1970s, or mebbe I was smaller.
Two more bites would be good...but it satisfied me.
@@shugemery Is the chocolate still indecently thick? There was a chocolate mint Club too, might have been called Golf. You just can't beat biscuit based nostalgia.
Pocket Bacon? YES!!! I've tried some of the other no refrigeration bacon, but it still wants to be added to a sandwich or cooked up a little. The bacon you brought on this trip looks like ready to eat Pocket Bacon! The wonders never cease. I'll definitely be trying out some maple bacon on my next trip. I'd enjoy a peppered bacon like that, I hope they make that too.
It will go with more for sure. Was quite tasty.
shugemery : I took a look at the Jack Links website and they have a 'Hickory' smoked bacon and an 'EARLY' (AM) 'Maple King' Bacon!! ...How can they not send you a case to promote in your videos?!?! I think you should send them an email and ask for some promotional samplers. I never knew this product existed before seeing it in your video. I think they'd certainly benefit (as would you) from a strategically shipped box of bacon to the Lord of Lolligag to enjoy during breakfast from the hammock. 🥓
Geat video as always.
Thankee and keep hangin'
Nice little adventure happening there. Spreading the gospel a bit. A young man I know is graduating from high school, and will be receiving a tarp/hammock/bug net, and an alcohol stove, to get him pointed in the right direction (out of doors and sleeping properly while camping)… and I'll send him a link to a good RUclips channel on how to use the stuff.
He scored on the swag~~~~
As long as it keeps you safe buddy you do what you need
Aye!
I'm afraid to sit in my Warbonnet like that, i'm afraid that do to my weight that i'd rip the bug net sitting like that. great video Shug
Just be gentle...should be OK.
Thanks for slipping us into your pouch. I really enjoyed being out in nature, even if it was from my armchair. Don't worry about the zink oxide Shug. We're used to the clown in you showing through. By the way, I don't think you have to worry about attracting any wolves with that wolf call.
We've been getting tons of rain here in your old stomping grounds. Some of our trees are looking like they're going to topple over. The good news is we now have lake front property.
As always, really enjoyed riding along with you.
Not my best call....I was huffing and puffing.
@@shugemery Did you blow the house down? Or should I say, the tarp?
Beauty loon shots.
They were showing off for the camera.
Some very nice hanging sites for sure. Even the loons don't get any respect from the bugs. Take care, Al
I know. Never knew the bugs bugged them so much.
Hey shug could you do a video on where you get your food for your trips sometime or a list of your favorite meals to bring with you. Thanks for your great kid friendly content!! My family and I are sending you a big Woo Buddy!!
I eat a lot of food from Packitgourmet.com
And some tuna packs and such from grocery store.
Sounds like you got some of that NC climate in the beginning , except the humidity was a bit low!
For sure not NC hot and moist. But I am more acclimatized to c-c-cold. Takes me a while to get my heat-on.
Video idea: What are the most worth-it purchases you have made when it comes to hammocks and hammock gear? Love your videos shug! Whooo Buddy!
A good underquilt.
I'd love to learn more about your hippie bug sticks!
They are these....www.allterrainco.com/ecommerce/insect-repellents/herbal-armor-natural-insect-repellent-sticks-10pc..html
Awesome film of the loons
Thankee.

Having shrimp tonight! And crab cakes. Thankee feller....
I can tell you've lived way up north a long time. Complaining about the heat and humidity. LOL! Have fun.
Not like those two-a-days we used to do!
Hope to see you sometime.
Great video
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
I really need to find out how far it is to that area from Eagle River Wis my daughter's want to hike that area. thank you for bringing us along
5 1/2 drive for me from Twin Cities. So worth it.
Looks like a road trip is in my future
Wonderful video as usual..thank you for sharing. I have learned A LOT from your videos..thank you. Have you had the chance to look at/review the Hammock Gear Zippered Bug Net Hammock? I picked one up and am liking it so far. (in the back yard)
I've not seen one yet...don't own one. Enjoy yours.
I've lost it at the mosquito hippie part hahaha
I am bowing here.
Looks like sector 7 is all secure so far 😉
Watched "Bumblebee" last night. They had a sector 7.
You coming to NC this year buddy!
Hope to at some point.
Beautiful, thank you.
On the subject of the Club biscuit I have to say I am disappointed.
When they were made by Jacob's their slogan was "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, join our Club!" - accompanied by a bouncy tune in the adverts.
Now they are owned by McVities the "lot of chocolate" part seems to have gone out of the window. Shameful!
Phew, glad I got that off my chest 😊👍
Ahhh...make sense to me now. Still a great wee bar.
