Shug it’s been many years since I camped in the woods, over 20. 1997 in fact was the last time on the AT. Kids, traveling for work etc...have kept me away, man I have missed it. Last week I went out with the tent in the woods. I forgot how many noises are in the forest at night! More importantly, I forgot how much I miss it and enjoy the time alone. Another thing, I realize especially watching your videos is setting up camp with a hammock and sleeping in a hammock is the way to go. I’m off this weekend with the hammock for round #2. Keep doing what you do! You’re an inspiration!!
Your SOS button makes me feel a lot better knowing that it makes you feel safer. Wouldn't want anything happen to you. I'd miss ya. Thanks Shug for taking us along for your trip.
With this terrible weather, I've been thinking of all the solo jaunts through the piney (and cedary) woods you've done over the years. Man, you're an inspiration to a lot of folks, Shug. Stay safe out there...
I've seen just about all your hammock tutorial videos, but this is the first time I've watched one of your overnighters. You're a good man, Shug. Thanks to you and Bearded Hanger, I've got a hammock comin' my way. I appreciate what ya do, buddy. God bless ya.
Dear Shug, as a greek person living and backpacking in Minnesota, I appreciate your tribute to my native language. For your great work, thank you (efharisto :D )!
"Found" you on YT not too long ago. You probably didn't know you were lost. Excellent technique you have for capturing the beauty of nature, and you are very informative with a natural sense of humor.
We love you for who you are Shug! Your compassion and empathy are great. I would love for you to have a sit down and share your big foot tales with us. They are out there and good people. Look forward to it bless you brother Shug, your always in our prayers!
Did the people not realise that hammock camping royalty was amongst them 😉 looked a great trip, envious of the scenery and trails as always...great video.
Busy doing a shugathon watch, just past the 6 hour mark, and still going. This guy is my inspiration to camp, since my camp days with my late Farther I went camping with as a kiddie,,,, Whooo Buddy.
I once heard someone say that worry was a waste of imagination. I'm glad you took us on your trip! I thankee that you pressed on to an even more beautiful camping site. The video was outstanding! Reuben mit Schwartzbrot
Here I thought I’d seen every person who’s made SHT video and then I find you! I love your older videos from before I discovered the trail! You should keep making videos! You do a damn good job! 👌🏼 Happy Hiking!
The other day my 4yr old boy and I came to this beautiful vista view way out in the woods and sure enough he said "WOOOOH Buddy". Your ramble about not hiking with "worry" really makes sense, I didn't realize until you said it but that is how I feel too.
Hey Shug, love your videos and love your vibe. Keep taking us along, helps me live vicariously when I don't have the time to get out myself. If you're ever around NYC, give me a shout for a nice hike. Keep up the good work!
I thought I sensed the presence of the Shug while on the trail this week. I hiked for four glorious (and muddy) days between Lutsen and Tettegouche. Whoo Buddy!
Of course we enjoyed coming along with you buddy! It's sad to hear about those guys in the accident, but as you say, when Mother Nature gets involved..... Thanks for sharing!
As always Shug your videos always bring a smile and a good few chuckles to my day when i watch your outings, hilarious and much fun, Keep up the wonderful videos.
Nice memorial for the gentleman who died in the Boundary Waters storm. I discovered your channel after reading about a hiker dying on the Sioux Hustler trail last year and searching RUclips to see if there were any videos of the trail.
I agree Shug! You can’t fear the outdoors. We best defense is knowledge and experience and over course being prepared. I was a Boy Scout you know. lol The outside calls for me and I have a hard time not responding to it. I enjoy being out there by myself. You can be one with the surroundings. It sure makes me a better person if I can do that. Thanks for sharing Shug! God Bless you and your family!
Hiya Shug, I commented about a plant on one of your videos yesterday and it has got me watching all of your footage now. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your trips with us, seeing some early summer SNF footage helps me get through the long Minneapolis winters. Also, you're right about the bunchberries; they're in the same genus (Cornus) as dogwoods, very closely related. Appreciate your attention to flora, landscape, and the more human aspects of backpacking!
Great stuff Shug. We do care that you and everyone stays safe in the woods. Now I'm going to have "and I know, I know, I know.... running through my head all night.
I just wanted to say your hiking videos have been a huge inspiration for me. After watching your videos I got the confidence and knowledge to plan my own trip out to the Boone area and Linville Gorge. Leaving tomorrow. I can't wait. Keep up the entertaining videos!
Mate I watch your videos down here in Australia. I'm going through a rough time at the minute and your videos put a smile on my face and give me a bit of a boost. So as we say in there parts - Onya Shuggo! 👍
We just got out of the BWCA on 6/28/2016 and we had a great trip but the weather was very severe and left to head up there just after hearing about this poor guy and his kid. Before hanging my hammock I spent a lot of time looking at trees for anything that could come down my way but sometimes you never can tell. Our group was split up far enough where I couldn't hear or see my pals... it was a little never wracking during the evening storms but it was still very fun and a great get away.
Thankee for dragging us along :-) Shame about the guys who fell foul of the outdoors but you are right we have to keep going out there and enjoying it for both our souls and those who have had misfortune thrust upon them, it is a form of deep respect. atb Rob
Another great trip/video, thanks for taking us along!! Shug shirts are being printed right now, whooo buddy!! Hoping it arrives before my next backpacking trip, it'll be my new camp shirt!! Salamat Po, Mr Shug!!!
Been enjoying your videos for a while now. Gotta live vicariously through someone. Happened to watch Slingblade the other night. Hhhmhmmm. Makes me laugh even harder now when I watch. Thanks for the entertainment.
You Sir I think I would like to swap stories around a campfire with you someday. Hiking alone is awesome but one does think if something happens who would know but has never deterred me good to see you out again.
Very enjoyable watching this solo trip. Thanks for showing your DeLorme. I've been wanting to get a satellite device since I'm hiking more solo now than before, but wasn't sure what offerings work well. Just ordered one to give it a go now. Thanks Shug, very helpful and fun to watch.
Glad to see you out and about , your hammock invintory seems to be endless. I just picked up a Hennessy with a super shelter for my wife and a scout for my son. They come with everything you need to get outside , even snake skins and an asym style tarp. If you get a chance take a peek at them. Thanks again for all the awesome videos and reviews on gear. they have helped me and I'm sure others a great deal. whoooooooo buuudddy
Love your into! 💕 Cool video. We are headed up there soon. I’ve hiked alone as a woman many times and I’ve been completely fine. Of course I’m careful too though. Love it! ❤️💕💜🌸🦋
Sitting here at work as we are having some technical problems with our plant. Got my new Dutchware whoopie sling suspension in the mail today so I brought my hammock to work to put it all together as I watched your video. Maybe we'll be up and running soon here, but till the. I'm still watching your videos! Always appreciate your humor and great tutorials on hammocks. Any idea when you might do another show here in central Florida??
Great job Shug! The video work was so good, I felt like I was on the hike with you. Enjoyed the vistas, flora, soundtrack, etc...We got hit hard with the wind you mentioned in S. Muskegon county, lots of big trees down. Yeah, more than 2 or 3 is a crowd, it just mucks up the experience for everyone. Glad you kept your corpse feet covered. Great area, thanks for bringing it to us.
Wooooh buddy :) Great one Shug :) Keep up spreading the joy :) You are a great ambassador for the joy of outdoor activities and nature :) Best wishes and greetings from Norway :)

I do the same thing with Ramen. Break an egg on top of the boiling noodles. Mmm... good.I just got the new Thru Nite headlamp this week. Wanted one lighter than the one you use and they have finally delivered. Thrunite TH20. Uses a single AA battery and weighs 96 grams or 3.4 ounces. I used it all day installing a new faucet set and ran through the battery. Quite a few hours. Forgot I was wearing it.Thanks for the vids.PS Just realized as I'm writing this that I'm earing a Shug shirt.PPS Off to a boring task force meeting.

With this terrible weather, I've been thinking of all the solo jaunts through the piney (and cedary) woods you've done over the years. Man, you're an inspiration to a lot of folks, Shug. Stay safe out there...
Dodgy out there in this weather. Trees down here at home. I was in the hammock testing and bailed. Limbs a falling.
Ihave fond fond memories of living in Greece.
You have a great knack at editing that keeps your videos very interesting... well, your personality carries most of the weight.

Lived in NYC from 1983 to 1989. 440 E. 78th St. Used to romp Central Park at night just to get some woods time. Had some interesting moments.
@@shugemery Bear country is a lot safer than walking in Central Park, especially at night. 😄

Thanks for sharing Shug. The wildflowers are so beautiful.
They were a real treat to see all along the way. Colors were vibrant.
You would be a joy to have in any camp. Such a positive outlook. Love your videos.
The woods bring out the best.....
Great hiking/hammock camping video as usual. Didn't look like the bugs were much of an issue. That always makes it a good time.
It was windy and that helped. Plus I was prepared.

I signed up for the Freedom Safety Plan. Around $15 a month. I find it reasonable.
Glad to see you out and about , your hammock invintory seems to be endless. I just picked up a Hennessy with a super shelter for my wife and a scout for my son. Love your into! 💕 Cool video. We are headed up there soon. I’ve hiked alone as a woman many times and I’ve been completely fine. Of course I’m careful too though. Love it! ❤️💕💜🌸🦋
Enjoy your trip up there.
I did detect a quieter, introspective tone to this one, Shug. Good stuff.
I went with how I felt. Needed to internalize.
+shugemery Cool. But don't overdo it hiking wise; my little 9 month old girl has to see you at the fair this year!
Very cool hike shug. I agree with you about worry. I try to relax and be in my own thoughts but wallowing in worry is a good way to ruin your trip.
I have camped with folks with the worry plague. Never camped with them again. Woods time is a gift.
Sitting here at work as we are having some technical problems with our plant. Got my new Dutchware whoopie sling suspension in the mail today so I brought my hammock to work to put it all together as I watched your video. Maybe we'll be up and running soon here, but till the. Good one! Really enjoying your hiking videos. Came for the reviews and tutorials - stayed for the trip reports :)
I do so thankee for that.
Very nice tribute hike. And that tuna salad is available in Hickory Smoked -YUM!

Great trip Shug! Thrunite now makes a AA battery headlamp called the TH20. Easy to get fuel for those!
I got the good rechargable battery. Used it 8 nights in a row once on a trip and it kept going. I'm sold.
Looks like a great trail to hike and you had a great time. Hope to be getting a hammock and tarp soon and join in the fun.
