North Dakota Waterfowl with Ryan Callaghan and Delta Waterfowl | S1E02 | Duck Lore

  • A grand migration takes place every fall to North Dakota, of both waterfowl and people, and they have the same destination: the Prairie Pothole Region. In this episode, Sean is joined by Matt Chouinard, Delta Waterfowl’s Waterfowl Program Manager, and Ryan Callaghan, Meat Eater’s Director of Conservation. They hunt geese, cranes, and ducks, explore the importance of the Prairie Pothole region, and even give a little back by making and placing some hen houses.

Maybe I’m alone on this but in my opinion most waterfowl shows sucks. I’ve hunted waterfowl my entire life and I never feel like the show captures what waterfowl hunting really is. It’s usually a massive hunt with a bunch of guys in a pit blind with cook stoves and a thousand decoys and unlimited ammunition. But that just isn’t real for most of us! The meat eater duck hunting series capture what real duck hunting is to me. This series and your other one with Jean Paul are brilliant. Thank you.

You truly don’t need much. Waders are helpful, but not necessary if you’re hunting in a spot where you can get by with hip boots, 1/2 doz good decoys, a good spot, and mediocre calling. That’s really it
