DarkAnomaly what stresses me out about these stages is that certain color pallets with some stages bother the living hell out of my eyes. and make it hard to sometimes distinguish between the blue spheres and blue floor or the red spheres and red floor.

Although in the case of Sonic I think that they just used seven emeralds to mimic the seven dragon balls since Super Sonic is definitely a reference to Super Saiyajins.

As nerdy as this sounds I feel that these were some of the best special stage types in the Sonic series. This is my opinion. If you disagree, no problems, I don't care. Personally, I enjoyed them the most. The whole speeding up aspect made it so much more exciting and you really had to focus to manage. Least Tails can't screw us over here unlike in Sonic 2. Closely rivalled by that of Sonic 2's with either Sonic, Tails or Knuckles only. This is one that I'm glad they kept the same song from Sonic 3 to Sonic and Knuckles. Excellent work on all perfects, that was no easy accomplishment.
Thank YOU stage select. I wouldn't have been able to get all the Chaos Emeralds in one run if it weren't for you because these stages took a lot of trial and error. I hated how the speed would progressively get faster where you have less time to react and those bumpers could be the death of you. XP
I have Sonic Mega Collection Plus and there is a save and load feature in the pause menu and I saved right before or during the white screen part of the special stage and if I fail then I load and load and load again until I beat it then I save it so that way my hard work just to beat a special stage pays off so I can keep the emerald forever
As far as I remember, besides getting the Rings it usually is best to find all of the Blue Spheres in an area because it is oftentimes difficult to locate the last few Blue Spheres.
I used to kick ass at these when I was a kid. Just recently downloaded the whole sonic genesis series on the xbox and I couldnt beat these damn things for the life of me. Thanks for the big help!
Holy balls I thought I was going to blow my head off. Doing emerald 6 at 5 am on pain medication is not the way to do this. AND by some crazy miracle, I didn't get a perfect on that stage. You would think it's impossible but, it's possible. Big ups for putting this up. I can now fulfill my childhood dream of beating this game 100%

I remember spending hours at my desktop computer in the early 2000s playing those bonus stages, and the only way I’d stop playing is by rage quitting. As much as I was obsessed, is still have yet to find a game that triggered me more

@TheKubaTV This is how it goes. Each stage comes one after the other, whether you complete it or fail it. If you do complete it, it will not show up again. If there are any stages you failed, the big rings will take you to the earliest one you failed, and the cycle will start over, until you complete them all. Big rings still do pop up even after all emeralds are obtained. If you touch them they give you 10 rings. I hope this helps :)
I just realized that the Blue Sphere stages from Sonic 3 & Knuckles use an interesting optical illusion. Ostensibly, you're walking across a giant 3D sphere in them, but the distance you can cover in them until you loop back around is far too short to possibly be set on a real sphere--its clearly a torus (donut shaped) sphere (or, in the most technical sense, a 2D square map that just loops you around)--BUT when you turn around to the left or right, the game still treats it like you're walking on a sphere instead of revealing what should be a giant ring you're traversing, but the transition is quick enough to disguise this shift in mass, time and space. In other words, the stages are checkered donuts visually projected onto a fake-3D sphere. Its a really jarring brain teaser, to say the least!

If you look at the background and the floor, Angel Island is black and brown, Hydrocity is turquoise, Marble Garden is Orange and White, Carnival Night is red and white, Flying Battery might look like brown and black. Ice Cap is white and blue, and Launch Base is yellow and purple.

OH WAIT nevermind! I figured it out! What happened was that I was playing a new Sonic 3 game, but the S&K cart already had some old saves on it (from the same cart) So for some reason, it wasn't reading them. But I deleted all of the S&K saves, then went back to Sonic 3 and watched the ending again (not sure if that's necessary) and then popped it back in, and voila! It works!

I remember my family was having the house renovated and as a kid I used to play this game... funny thing is the workers that used to work were going nuts because of the squiking sounds of the game :)))))) poor guys even asked my ma to take the video console in a different room :))))))))))
When I was about 4 years old my Dad got me this game for PC. It's what started my love for Sonic, and Platformers as a whole. These stages quickly became too easy for me. So, my strategy was to trap myself between two of the silver spheres with stars on them and bounce back and forth, then I'd put the game in windowed mode (F4). Doing so would let the game play at an extremely fast speed for some reason, and I'd let it quickly ramp up to maximum speed. Then, I'd full screen the game again and beat the stage anyway, but at maximum speed... 4 year old me was on crack I swear lol. I still prefer to play these at maximum speed, but without emulators or the PC version, having it sit there and just slowly build up speed doesn't seem worth the effort. Sonic Mania having tons of these stages was pure heaven for me though

honestly, like Shadow would say, the "damn" chaos emerald was the 4th one, it took me quite a few attempts to win the special stage (also the White and Red checkered pattern reminds me of Casino Night, for some reason)

I have a ds game called sonic collections with sonic the hedgehog 1, 2, 3, S&K, 2+K, 3+K and I just got all 7 chaos emeralds with STH3+K(knuckles in sonic the hedgehog 3). but, when I go to 50 rings, nothing happens! I think what made it not work is that I accadentally made one of the emeralds a super emerald, or is it the game thats glitched? could you please help me on this? is there a button you need to press?

@@Ognyan397 You can't stay still. The game makes you start moving after a few seconds, no matter what. But if you could be still for that long, it would probably get fast immediately.
So say I get the 50 rings in the special stage but rather than get all the blue spheres for the perfect score, I hit a red after I get my rings, do I still get my emerald?
I have a question: if you lose 2 of the special stages however you get five but you still didn’t get to the final stage does that mean that the later special stages will give you the two that you missed?

As far as I remember, whenever you see Blue Spheres in a square, you should usually try to just get the ones on the edge of the square.
That's how I usually go for them! When I saw how they went for the middle and worked around, I got so much anxiety xD

indeed it is a great one! I can't believe how insanely better than sonic 1 and 2 this is, and I still think they are awesome. If only I had known at the time...
I'm playing the one fused with sonic and knuckles, as it was originally intended. it is a long game! but well worth it.
honestly, like Shadow would say, the "damn" chaos emerald was the 4th one, it took me quite a few attempts to win the special stage (also the White and Red checkered pattern reminds me of Casino Night, for some reason)

I have a ds game called sonic collections with sonic the hedgehog 1, 2, 3, S&K, 2+K, 3+K and I just got all 7 chaos emeralds with STH3+K(knuckles in sonic the hedgehog 3). but, when I go to 50 rings, nothing happens! I think what made it not work is that I accadentally made one of the emeralds a super emerald, or is it the game thats glitched? could you please help me on this? is there a button you need to press?
Impressive with 7 Emeralds = 7 "Perfects". My anxiety would always get to me!
i can def. do that too, but i would need to retry the 6th one because that one gives me stress

As a child i always wonderend what will happen if i do not start moving in this special satge ! Would i still speed up ? Anyway i never tried !
@@Ognyan397 Your character starts to move by himself when the "Get Blue Spheres" text disappears.
@@robertanderson9447 I ment when i enter this stage with the spheres , i wont start moving for 5 minute , would the speed get immidiately faster after that ?
@@Ognyan397 You can't stay still. The game makes you start moving after a few seconds, no matter what. But if you could be still for that long, it would probably get fast immediately.
So say I get the 50 rings in the special stage but rather than get all the blue spheres for the perfect score, I hit a red after I get my rings, do I still get my emerald?

@Primape92 No, you absolutely need to grab all blue orbs in order to get the Chaos Emerald.

I have a question: if you lose 2 of the special stages however you get five but you still didn’t get to the final stage does that mean that the later special stages will give you the two that you missed?

1st Special Stage - Green Chaos Emerald
2nd Special Stage - Yellow Chaos Emerald
3rd Special Stage - Pink Chaos Emerald
4th Special Stage - Blue Chaos Emerald
5th Special Stage - Grey Chaos Emerald
6th Special Stage - Red Chaos Emerald
7th Special Stage - Cyan Chaos Emerald
I think, it was a perfect game of Chaos Emerald with 7 colors for me.

Find more big rings and try the stage again. There are up to about 3-4 big rings in each level.
I got all the chaos emeralds on a black and white, 13" TV. That will be my only claim to fame.

Whenever I play the game, I run to where the first ring is located with less or more than 50 rings, and it’s not there. How do you get the ring to appear?
When I was a goofy kid, I used to give these stages nicknames based on what the colors reminded me of
1. Pizza
2. Sea turtle
4. Peppermint
5. Stu's tie (Stu from Rugrats, it's somewhat close to the colors of his necktie)
6. Sailor (it's kinda the colors of a usual sailor uniform)
7. Jester
I skipped 3 cuz I didn't give that one a nickname. Wasn't sure what it looked like. Welp, there's no time like the present to name it! I'mma call it the Flan stage

How do i get these to appear again
On the XBOX 360 ver. you can save in the middle of a special stage and retry the stage over and over again. (I just tried it)

It's a shame you can't get all rings AND all Chaos Emeralds since the stage ends when you get the Emerald. Or can you?
