I'm more of a Challenger fan, really enjoyed seeing it some years ago. Still sad that UP saw fit to rid itself of so much of its steam heritage. At least they did not simply scrap the other locos... hoping the new owners really do have the means to repair and restore.. Nice video you two👍👍. Well done mix of new information and historical images/video. THANK YOU!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I’ve been talking to a lot of people and picking some brains. A lot of this is speculation and as it turns out some of it is wrong. I’ll be making corrections as I go. In fact, I have an update going up in the morning with a few corrections and a little more detail. For the most part, however this is correct. the one big problem is I was assuming the train would be on display as would make sense, however, as it turns out, it will only have public displays in Ogden and Roseville. Unless any changes are made to the schedule, it will be off-limits everywhere else.

I have often wondered what the freight train engineers think/say/etc, when they see 844 or 4014 pass them out on the high iron. Do they secretly wish that they were at the throttle, like the rest of us? I have often said, "railroad engineers" are really just great big kids living their dream". So it must be even more so with those who drive steam locos. All of us who are "rail fans" are the ones who just never got to live that dream. Oh well. ;-)

I remember a cold grey morning in May a few years ago. The Big Boy was not quite up to steam when they blew the whistle. It was a very wet sound ;) I will mark my calendar for June 30th at 8am. I watched the 4014 and the 844 when they went out to Utah, four years ago. It is the first video on my RUclips channel.
