Thanks for the stuttering. I am still nervous from time to time when in front of the camera. But I hope this will get better in the future. Regarding your point of view with the design language. I just think that Microsoft is really slow when it comes to adapting to market trends and thin bezels and USB-C ports are just two things where it is clearly noticeable. Keeping the Surface port and adding a second type-c port could be a compromise here. Also I would love to use a i5 fan-less version of the Surface Pro 7 and see how this performs. Mine is just to noisy and the battery runs short. But maybe I am just a power user forcing it too much at the end.

After owning the surface pro 7 for a close to a year, I don't really see the design being an issue. To me, the design is very sleek and I believe that companies often change their designs when they find a flaw. The fact that the design hasn't been changed means that the there are extremely minimal or close to no flaws in the design. However, I agree with you that the battery life and the fan are probably the two biggest issues that microsoft needs to address for the next surface pro model.

I have the i5 version and was interrested in seeing an different opinion. From WHAT I read and your own review, the i7 seems to be a bad combination for this platform.
I can go through the day without any issue with mine. Drivers are fine. I drive 3 screens including the laptop's one, all from 1 usb-c cable. It gets charged, my USB keyboard/mouse and other periferals are connected through the first screen's integrated USB hub while the other screen is connected to this first screen through displayport out (mst). I use teams everyday, all day long and I've never had an issue.
I've had a Lenovo yoga x1 with an I7 (which retailed at over 3 times what this surface costs) and to be completely honest, I sent it back since this surface does everything it did better, and then some. The pen is so much better, there's no place for debate here.
I sincerely feel like you're either looking for clicks, or maybe you've got something personal against Microsoft? Overall, maybe you've got a lemon, maybe the i7 version is really just terrible.
All I can say is the i5 version is a really good value for the price. The only hiccup I had was a usb-c connection/disconnection loop (windows sound looping). I could see the USB-hub had a problem with a device and honestly didn't know what to do. Looking for answers didn't point me to anything obvious except siaabling the port, which was out of question as you might understand! I ended up rebooting (!) and voilà. It happened once more and that time disconnecting / reconnecting the usb-c cable fixed the issue. I since then updated the drivers from Microsoft website (500mb package) and fingers crossed,it didn't happen again.
all in all, a great device, especially considering the price.

It was my main machine for 3 months and I would buy/use one again in a heartbeat. If ports aren'T a turn-off, to me, the Surface is an awesome computer and the tactile screen is superior to most if not every other 2 in 1 I tried. I currently have the HP Envy (Ryzen CPU) and although I like it, it's not even close to the surface in terms of ease of use. The envy is a bit more powerful, sure, but the surface's battery lasted longer, and handling the device was a totally different (better) experience.

    • @Fostravel
      @Fostravel 3 года назад

@@jonathanflores6524 Battery lasted a whole day and then some if used very lightly. If you're drawing non-stop though you'll see that the surface heats-up and the battery will drain quite fast (2 hours, 3 maybe?). But that'S to be expected of ANY device. In my book, the battery life was more than acceptable, especially considering the form factor.

This review was written 3 years ago when the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Intel Core i7 16GB was still running on Windows 10. I strongly suspect this device will be working a whole lot better with most of the mentioned kinks and bugs resolved via numerous firmware updates between then and now. Most importantly, these devices will almost certainly be running Windows 11 Pro, which is highly stable and tends to work a lot more flawlessly than Windows 10 ever did.
This device is now "old" by modern standards and can be picked up at a huge discount as a refurbished device.
I'm presently using a Surface Pro 5 Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and apart from an ageing battery, it's been flawless - never had problems with MS Teams - as long as it was plugged in.
The Surface Pro 7 is now being advertised as a refurb in the UK for £499 - that's with an Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD - and of course Windows 11 Pro pre-installed.
It would be safe to assume that by now, this device would have had all the important firmware updates for the last 3 years installed. Yes, of course the battery will not be perfect at this vintage but it will still work.
I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these for the price - I could use the upgraded Intel Core i7 processing capability and the 16GB RAM.

I had a Surface Pro 4 which was stolen so I tried to live with a normal laptop, but missed the Surface Pro and got the 7 i7. I really like the surface adapter, which is much safer than a USB-C charger as it will disconnect if something happens with the cable. It also works very well with my Kensington SD7000 docking station. I haven't had any issues with the pen probably because I haven't played around with beta software. I would like some more control over the fan so I can put it into fanless low performance mode.

@@redladybug9180 I have both the Surface Pro 7 i7 and the Surface Go 2 M3 and I like them both for different purposes. I got the Go 2 to travel light and for not being as expensive as the Pro 7 when travelling. The Pro 7 feels big and a little heavy compared with the Go 2. I prefer the Pro 7 full size keyboard as I make more typing errors with the Go 2 keyboard. I prefer the more powerful Pro 7 for heavy tasks but the Go 2 M3 is sufficient for most tasks. The Go 2 is completely silent where the Pro 7 i7 has a little fan noise when doing some work with power supply . The Pro 7 i7 is silent most of the time on battery. So it depends on your needs.

Hello, I have purchased a Surface pro 7 like almost 2 month and replaced the product once due to overheating while charging and also working for more than 2 hours, So my advice to you NOT to buy surface pro 7 and after service is worse. I also found that my second replacement is having the same problem(overheating) and I can not connect my any bluetooth device like earphones or speakers. This problem does not exist on my older surface i.e. before replacement. I have purchased it for study and also for office use. Even the battery is not up to the mark it can't last long for half a day.
SO AS MY HONEST AND FAIR REVIEW TO YOU IS NOT TO BUY SURFACE PRO 7.

I won't bash the man for his opinions but I have to say that as far as design it seems like more of an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" situation with the tablet. The I/O is definitely surprisingly behind where I would expect it to be in 2020 but realistically I can't see it as a huge deal since the only improvement I would have personally been satisfied with is Thunderbolt. It packs the essentials and I can't imagine a true power user is going after this device with the intention of carrying out power user tasks on it. It's target demographic is going to care more about the convenience, mobility, and productivity potential more so than anything else. And in terms of its physical form and aesthetic I still say it is a very sleek device that just happened to be ahead of its time when it was first launched and is just now blending in with the rest of what the market has to offer.
There are plenty of alternatives out there, Windows or Android, that are without a doubt a better value but overall I see nothing terribly wrong with the Surface Pro on paper. Especially so for users who travel for work but still need a powerful and productive work station on the go.
Extra note: The power connection format isn't so much outdated as it is proprietary for the purposes of selling less knowledgeable users replacement power cables. If this wasn't the case then they likely wouldn't currently be charging a whopping $90 for a power supply on their own storefront. I do feel that a dedicated USB-C for charging would have been nice but they also likely knew that by having a proprietary connection the user would be forced to choose between using up the only USB-C port available (also prompting the user to consider purchasing the surface dock) or replace a damaged Surface Connect charger. From a business perspective this design is actually pretty smart.
Last note, the Surface Pro isn't what I would consider a work from home device. It is just forced to be one right now if it wants to be sold.

What's your point, this is your opinion, which is also not based on anything and maybe not your taste, and that involves your Mac, I suspect that you are a Microsoft hater and are promoting Apple here. I have a Surface Pro 7 i7/16GB and it works perfectly. It does what it's supposed to do and I'm very happy with it. And what do you mean, old design, it's beautiful and I think you know very little about technology. The CPU is not a desktop CPU but a mobile CPU. How can you put a CPU in the Surface that gets 100 degrees Surface does not have active cooling.
I think this is typical of a talk from an ex-employee of Microsoft who lashes out.
We don't know why you're out of there, that you have an opinion about something okay, but calling on people not to buy the Surface is going a long way. Should we all go over to the MAC with its dictatorial OS, didn't think so my friend. I think most of the responses are clear. You can count yourself lucky that Microsoft doesn't sue you, again opinion is allowed, but calling people out not a product because of a personal opinion is even punishable in my opinion.

Compare the surface pro7 to the ipad lineup or in windows the HP Elite Dragonfly and repeat your sentence. i3 in 2021 is completely ridiculous, and so is 4gb of ram. the thermals are horrible. With a fan, the i7 overheats with around 10 tabs on chrome with discord in the background. i5 thermal throttles due to lack of thermal paste after maybe a year of constant school use and light gaming (aimlabs, aiming.pro, idk minecraft?) and requires an external fan to keep it from being too hot. I run out of battery after a day of school, taking notes with a stylus with only onenote and a few pages open.

It's a shame that after so long they haven't improved it.
In the end I stopped using it as a tablet because it is very heavy and the battery life is bad. Now I have an iPad Pro and the tablet function is excellent, I can use the programs I need and also get distracted with YT and it can hold me for 7-8 hours of continuous use.

It heavily depends on the need for portability and creativity. The new Inspiron 700 2 in 1 with the latest Intel 11th gen CPU is more versatile and the better all-rounder. The Surface Pro 7 is better for work with the pen in pure tablet mode. It is smaller and pretty great for students. But if you have no problem with a bit more weight and size and do not want to carry a dongle the Inspiron gives you more performance and flexibility for a great price. But that is just my humble opinion.

Yah the lead sounded odd . Don't get because of the looks? True the new 8 will most likely look better, but not a good enough reason to lead with. Has anyone else had trouble connecting monitors. I have the Surface Dock 2 and can not seem to connect 2 HP 24f monitors. Now I was able to with the Plagables triple monitor dock, but the Surface Pro 7 got really hot. Not sure if that is a big deal.

I would never buy another Surface Pro laptop again. My barely 3+-year-old Surface Pro 4 has a bulging battery that is pushing out the front screen. Microsoft will not repair/replace the
problem battery which clearly is defective and the only option they offer is for me to pay $450.00 to get it swapped with a refurbished one. Due to the design of the device, I can't even take out the battery and run it on the power cord as this unit can not be powered on with a power cord only. So, if you are ok with only using a Surface Pro laptop until its battery deteriorates, go ahead. Microsoft customer service sucks!!

I normally hate proprietary charging connectors, but the magnetic connector, for me, is a huge benefit. My surface pro 3 and 4 get knocked around a lot, and the micro usb charger on the 3 didn't take long to have serious charging connectivity issues. The breakaway magnetic charger on the 4 has been put to the test over and over and over again, and never, ever fails me. I also like the indicator light on it and how it sits flush with the tablet instead of sticking straight out like it does on the 3.
I'd prefer a smaller bezel, yes, but I also don't really care. And apart from the rather thick bezel, the general design language of the pro is absolutely, positively, flawlessly perfect for that I need in a laptop. I have no problems with the battery life I get out of the 4, it feels pretty stable and reliable for the size of the machine. I even kind of like the thick bezel because it give me a place to put my damn hands to adjust or hold the tablet without impeding the screen or forcing my hands into sharp edge. It's why I hate edgeless phones.
The only major gripe I have is the price. I honestly hate that there are no good windows OS alternatives. I don't like the hard dock keyboards or flip over modes, I like the weight, dimensions, and utility I get from it. But Microsoft is absolutely charging a full 25% or more too much for what you get, and gouging us absolutely inexcusably on the keyboard. For fuck's sakes, I went to price a 7 today and after my 20% student discount, it still cost $50 MORE from microsoft than amazon wants for it.
And they shouldn't fucking sell it with a 4gb RAM option. It was the option I went with for my pro 4 and it has been agony.
Honestly, I'll probably get a 7 once the 8 comes out. I hope the 8 does make a fancier, smaller bezel design that makes people think the 7/6/5 are now worthless garbage so I can snap one up, because it doesn't bug me at all.

Ever thought your battery issues are because you don't charge it correctly? I'm not sure it was actually supposed to be permanently charged via USB c?? Like why would they provide the surface charger if that was not supposed to be used to charge it

    • @TheIdeaofTechnology
      @TheIdeaofTechnology  4 года назад +1

Yeah, you are right. This could be a valid point. But I think when it´s fully charged and I unplug it from the wall it shouldn't be important how I charged it in the first place. A full battery still is a full battery and the wear level is at 98% so this should be fine. USB-C charging is an alternative and I don't know a reason why you should not use it permanently. Yes, the Surface charger is faster because it´s proprietary and made for the Surface. In my opinion, the surface connector has no real purpose anymore since USB-C is the industry standard. And yes the MagSafe magnetic stuff is pretty cool and unique.

many of my cowrkers have issue with MS Teams. it looks Surface Pro with core i7 is bad combination probably becaus i7 needs more cold air but too narrow to perform with its max spec. very good reveiw with real/honest impression made by actual user. I watched 10 or bit less reviews with promoters without actual experence. however 1 min opening movie is too long it needless 4.5 out of 5.0 comments are new, convincing since it's same as most of my coworkers annoyded by MS teams. very good review
