I can easily say it was just as much fun getting to play through it again after 25 years and felt like an old shoe that just fits perfectly and comfortably.

Solid Snake well links awaking is my favorite game ever, was the first game my dad bought me, even though we were poor he managed to save enough for a used gameboy color taht came with some “zelda” games. I was so mad becuase i wanted the new game boy advanced with mario bros. Shoot i didnt even know what zelda was... thanks to my dad i didnt miss out
The opening scene of the original, was so awesome! Not many games on GB had that level of quality. I never had Link to the Past, but I had a Super GameBoy. I did have Link’s Awakening in my Super GameBoy and it was a top 2 game for me as far as what I played the most. Mega Man X and Links Awakening with a custom color scheme (on a black & white Commodore monitor, lol)
Links awaking was my first Zelda game too! I remember my cousin giving me it along with a bunch of other awesome GameBoy games like Mario land 2, 20 years ago when he found out I had been given a GameBoy by my granddad. I can’t wait for it to come in the mail. It’s going to bring back so many memory’s of me and granddad trying to beat it, I wish he was still here to do the same again.
@@FahrenheitTepes I agree, the art style only fits Link's Awakening because of the story. I would not want the Oracle games to have the same toy-like aesthetic.
On the Gameboy, Link's Awakening alone justified my parents' decision to buy me a rechargeable battery pack. I can't even imagine how many AA's I'd have gone through playing and replaying it otherwise! Tried the remake, and it's still so much fun! ^_^
I want to play this one, I've never played it. But my favorite game is Skyward Sword. It was innovative, the story was MASSIVELY BEAUTIFUL, and for once I feel like I got to know Zelda and Link on a deeper level. I know they wanted Link to be sort of like a representation of yourself, but sometimes you have to wonder--where did it all start from?
I didn't play the original and I find this to be a great game even with how quickly it can be. The game did get harder the further I got but I had a few times where I did go further than I was supposed to at a few times. The puzzles weren't overly hard but did get frustrating once and a while with me going off the course and got lost and had to look at a walkthrough to get back on track. I played it all day yesterday and made it quite far (probably spent 12 hours straight with some meal breaks playing it) but I would definitely replay this one!
This is more like a Re-Imagining than a Remake. I still can't get used to the new graphics. My first Zelda game was the very first one on the NES but my favourite Zelda game is Majora's Mask. No doubt.
We need a remastered zelda combo pack. Put wind Waker, twilight princess, and Link to the Past for about 120 dollars. Lttp needs its own remake too outside the pack
I never played the original so I was excited to get a chance to dive into one of the most unique entries in the Zelda franchise. It's been absolutely wonderful experiencing Koholint Island through the new art style and the music is beyond stellar. I love that each dungeon has its own music and they all feel very distinctly different from one another. This game is downright charming and a ton of fun to play. I'm already looking forward to playing through it again once I have the progression figured out better so I can get more into the flow of it.
It was also my first Zelda game ever. I used to play this bad boy on the Game Boy Color and all the way into the Game Boy Advance SP. One of my all time favorites.
Never played these Zelda games till recently. I bought the breath of the wild and I was blown away with it! Still only 10 hours in with it so I can only imagine it gets even better. I’m now watching this while it’s downloading.. Looks great! :)
I remember playing the original one back in the day back when I was a kid and it was my first game, and I'm planning on buying this for my daughter for Christmas as her first game with a switch lite
I loved this game as a kid got it as my 10th birthday gift and now at 36 officially as of today it was one my gifts as well, this game will forever be one of my favorite games of all time!
I like this game MUCH better than Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild was too frustrating and too big and empty. I didn't know what to do and the game was just frankly too hard. It just didn't give me the motivation to keep playing it, where Link's Awakening absolutely kept me playing.
Im 40 years old this was my first zelda back in the day on my good old gameboy one of my favorite games of all time and im playing the remake rightnow i cannot put it down its amazing im loving it
It seems like everybody's first Zelda game is their favorite. My first was Ocarina Of Time. And still to this day I get the most joy from Nostalgia playing that one. Although Majora's Mask was my favorite non formulaic Zelda. This is my first time playing Link's Awakening all the way through. And I can totally see how this is your favorite Zelda game being the first you ever played. My only complaint about this new one is Link's beady eyes. I hate em.. I wish they would've made him look like the drawn animation at the beginning.
Evetchen Brown A lot of people haven’t heard of this game. People who are new to the series usually. I think every game needs a before you buy, even if it’s good. People have preferences so a before you buy always helps.
I'd give it to spyro only because outdated-ness. I can go back to Links Awalening DX and really enjoy it. I can go back and play spyro 1 and the polygons throw it off for me. DX is older but sprites have a longer holding power than old polygons.
So far it's an absolute joy to revisit one of my favorite Zelda games of all time. I'm kind of secretly hoping for more of the top downs to be remastered like this... I know not everyone loved them but I LOVED Oracle of Seasons/Ages and I'd love to be able to play them in an updated style.
I played this game on the Gameboy Color back in 1998. I loved it and I love this remake. There are many small differences in this game from the original outside of the graphical upgrade. There are more hearts, you don't get the Seashell Sword at 20 shells anymore, there are more seashells to collect. There are figures you can collect now, there are also chamber slabs you can collect that add variations of familiar rooms in the game. I love the dungeon builder mode, it's a starting point for Zelda Maker, it's no Zelda Classic, but it's a good start. The music is surprising. Most of the music is just updated versions of the original, but Angler's Cavern was completely re-done while sticking the original tiny loop in the background. Tow things you didn't mention was the Amiibo functionality that unlocks 5 chambers & Shadow Link if you tap in the Link's Awakening Amiibo, & Hero Mode. Hero Mode makes a return in this game and there are 0 Healing items. Defeating Minibosses don't spawn a fairy to heal you & there are no fairy fountains that spawn a small fairy until after the 2nd dungeon. This is the hardest part of Hero mode. After the 2nd dungeon you can go clear the hidden Color Dungeon and get the Blue Tunic & you also can bomb a wall to get a Fairy Fountain that spawns with a small fairy you can keep in a Bottle & also have access to Crazy Tracey who gives you the secret medicine. So it goes from very hard to easily do-able.
My first Zelda was the original. :-) BotW is weirdly the first that I would just pick up for a few hours other than the the first one (it is also one of the first 3D Zelda game that allows you to jump as Link).
Glad I got this game, I was very doubtful and never saw a review, I wanted to go in clueless. It’s so good, very close to a link to the past in terms of game style and I was so happy to find that out. So much fun and looks stunning on the Oled.
I have played the Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening on gameboy, while I had the Gameboy Advance. And I also played it on emulator and even beat it a year or two ago. My favorite Legend Of Zelda game is Twilight Princess. I like wolves and werewolves so Link as a werewolf made me all kinds of happy.
it was way less talked about but Cadence of Hyrule on the Switch is also a fantastic zelda game. feel like no one talked about it but it was a super fun different kind of zelda game.
Never played Zelda before but have always loved Link. Not a fan of RPG's but I like the design of this game. Link looks like he's 9 years old here. Looks like I'd need a strategy guide book to play this one.
When done well, remakes of classic games are well worth that price point. If you trust the review that it lives up to expectations, in terms of faithfulness in its recreation, that's value for money. If it's not your type of game and just wanna try it out to see if you'll enjoy it, it's probably not worth buying it at that price. Perhaps find a used copy and see if you can get it at a lower price.
@@emileg3297 Is there anything in Canada that isn't substantially more expensive than in the US? How you guys are so nice and polite with those prices is beyond me.
Been a Zelda fan since 87. My 6yo loves it more than i do. We have separate saves because he wants no help. Zelda has done more to get him to read than anything else. So its pretty cool to see him reading and solving problems after we did BotW together.
This was my first Zelda game as a kid. It came with the original game boy, which I received for Christmas. I haven't bought a console since a PS2 when I was in high school. Seeing this game makes me want to buy a Switch. I think I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas this year.
Honestly, I didn't really like the graphical style when I saw it: the overall style is fine, but it looks a little too plastic-y and fake, with the dumb identical reflections on everything. I think I would have liked it a lot more if they took out the bright light patch on everything and made it the same but more clay looking than plastic. But it's grown on me just a little, seeing videos of it in action, to the point where I think I'd enjoy it if I played it. The problem now for me, though, is the price. I'm simply not willing to pay $60 for the exact same gameplay as a game I've already played through several times with updated graphics, just for nostalgia's sake, especially for the length (about 15 hours, if that). As you said, the gameplay in the original still holds up, and I'm totally willing to go back and play the Gameboy or GBC game if I want to play it again, rather than waste $60 I could use on a completely new experience (or, rather, 2-3 completely new experiences). Especially with the length. $40 would be a probably-buy for me, and $30 a definite buy, but $60? No thanks. If it was on Steam, I'd wait for the sale, but on Switch? Never gonna happen, so I guess I'll never play this (except for maybe in a generation or two, the only time it seems first-party Nintendo games will go on sale).
In response to your question my favorite Zelda game was Link to the Past. The first Zelda game I ever played was the original. I still remember my dad beating Shadow Link in Zelda 2 after working on it for several months.

At first, I wasn’t a fan of the new art style, but it’s growing on me. It feels good to be playing a Zelda game again - I haven’t played much lately. I will say this - its a little disappointing that the frame rate drops so much so often, especially when the likes of Breath of the Wild run much more smoothly. Hopefully they’ll stabilize it in an update soon 🤞
Am I the ONLY person that wants a Zelda game but in the style of Dark Souls with all the mechanics of the old school top down Zelda games. IE: certain bosses or secrets or dungeons require certain items!

My favorite Zelda game is Twilight Princess. Because it has a lot of bosses and minibosses, there are loads of fun stuff to do and you get into a friendly relationship with many different characters. But the best thing is probably that the puzzles felt rewarding everywhere I went in that game.
I'd love Tp on the switch. They did it on the wii u...
@@monstarz90 I want TP on the switch so bad, I don't have a Wii so can't play it
Would love to see a Golden Sun remake or sequel with these graphics
Chris James I would love to see anything Golden Sun related.
Big facts! Golden Sun was so much fun, definitely my top favorite JRPGs
eh i don't think golden sun would fit these graphics(i mean i could be surprised) but i would absolutely want a remake for sure(and maaaaaybe a continuation from the cliff hanger at the end of dark dawn too?)
That would literally end me. I could die happy.
Golden Sun remake would be amazing
Bought the game already but always watch your videos no matter what. Keep it up
Absolutely love this game, I remember being so excited to see a Gameboy release coming right after I beat link to the past and wasn't disappointed in the least when I finally got my hands on it back in 93. I can easily say it was just as much fun getting to play through it again after 25 years and felt like an old shoe that just fits perfectly and comfortably.
This is my favorite Zelda game. It's a classic, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Amazing game.
I started with the original. Really like A Link to the Past, but my favorite is Wind Waker
Omg ty i agree 100% i thought i was the only 1 and i played beat all of them 100% except 900 deku for gold poop im good lol
Rylan Leese same! Windwaker was the best to me and it gets a lot of Flack

Everyone:
"That's my favourite zelda game ever!!!"
Solid Snake My favorite of all time is Four Swords, I never hear anyone talking about it but if Nintendo ever remakes it I’m sure the bandwagons will come out claiming lol

New COD as well as Greedfall and my friend also getting new destiny expansion. Yea its brutal
Kairow Kuroshi not to mention borderlands 3
Then Witcher 3 in a few weeks then Luigis Mansion then Pokemon. RIP wallet

Switch lite as well
The opening scene of the original, was so awesome!
I was gonna pick it up yesterday but I’m definitely buying it today

6:25 I can't remember the joke (haven't played the game in like 7+ yrs ),can anyone remind me pls?
Links awaking was my first Zelda game too! I remember my cousin giving me it along with a bunch of other awesome GameBoy games like Mario land 2, 20 years ago when he found out I had been given a GameBoy by my granddad. I can’t wait for it to come in the mail. It’s going to bring back so many memory’s of me and granddad trying to beat it, I wish he was still here to do the same again.
I really hope they use this engine for more old Zelda remakes.
Would love to see Oracle of Ages/Seasons with these graphics.
Same graphics, maybe, this art style? No. That would make this game lose it's charm.
@@FahrenheitTepes I don't see how that would affect the charm of this game at all.
@@FahrenheitTepes I agree, the art style only fits Link's Awakening because of the story. I would not want the Oracle games to have the same toy-like aesthetic.
I think the ALBW artstyle would really fit the Oracle games.
@@dandelionbritt I really don't see the problem, it looks like a top-down Zelda game.
On the Gameboy, Link's Awakening alone justified my parents' decision to buy me a rechargeable battery pack. I can't even imagine how many AA's I'd have gone through playing and replaying it otherwise!
Tried the remake, and it's still so much fun! ^_^
Links awakening for the GameBoy was also my first Zelda game. Ok, I think Im gonna get a switch now lol
I'm tempted to buy a switch just for this game. But, ya know "Grown Up Responsibilities"
Worth it dude. Soooooo many games
I havent owned a Nintendo console since 2006...just bought a switch Lite for this game and a few others.
Anyone know what the change in dialogue Jake is on about at 6:25 is?
Haven't played the original. Was going to ask the same question...
I've played the original few months ago and I can't remember of what he's talking about.
There were inappropriate adult jokes in the original that were written out.
@@godemperorpepe Ok, thats what I thought by the way Jake sayed it.
Details are welcome tho ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I didn't play the original and I find this to be a great game even with how quickly it can be. The game did get harder the further I got but I had a few times where I did go further than I was supposed to at a few times. The puzzles weren't overly hard but did get frustrating once and a while with me going off the course and got lost and had to look at a walkthrough to get back on track. I played it all day yesterday and made it quite far (probably spent 12 hours straight with some meal breaks playing it) but I would definitely replay this one!
I already bought the game and have played at least 2.5 hours but I like to watch the reviews to support my purchase😂
I do that a lot too but sometimes it makes me realize that a game I already bought isn't actually that good 😌
@@shallemshteinbock3866 if you enjoy then the review dont matter.
This is more like a Re-Imagining than a Remake.
I still can't get used to the new graphics.
My first Zelda game was the very first one on the NES but my favourite Zelda game is Majora's Mask. No doubt.
Great review. My favorite Zelda game is A Link to the Past. But this is a close second. Can't wait to get my copy
A link to the past needs a remake, game was ahead of its time
We need a remastered zelda combo pack. Put wind Waker, twilight princess, and Link to the Past for about 120 dollars. Lttp needs its own remake too outside the pack
Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda. First one I played and the world, story, and gameplay are still fantastic
Yes
Shaun Johnson it’s so fucking hard, I had an actual mental breakdown
I have to go with A Link to the Past for my favourite Zelda game. And it has aged like a fine wine. It's absolutely perfect.
A Link to the past is my favorite Zelda game.
I remember playing the original one back in the day back when I was a kid and it was my first game, and I'm planning on buying this for my daughter for Christmas as her first game with a switch lite

I like this game MUCH better than Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild was too frustrating and too big and empty. I didn't know what to do and the game was just frankly too hard. It just didn't give me the motivation to keep playing it, where Link's Awakening absolutely kept me playing.

Zelda alttp was my first, Twilight Princess is my favorite.

Legend of Zelda ocarina of time is my all time favorite Zelda game so far
For me this is by far my favorite game of 2019
Just bought this game. Little late to the party. But man this game is such a blast.
Zelda: WInd Waker is my favorite Zelda Game!

my first Zelda game was Breath of the wild. I absolutely fell in love with the franchise and I appreciate all of the content the other games have.
My first Zelda was the original. :-) BotW is weirdly the first that I would just pick up for a few hours other than the the first one (it is also one of the first 3D Zelda game that allows you to jump as Link).
I'm never an early adopter but this had me not even thinking before purchasing lol
Glad I got this game, I was very doubtful and never saw a review, I wanted to go in clueless. It’s so good, very close to a link to the past in terms of game style and I was so happy to find that out. So much fun and looks stunning on the Oled.
Finally somebody talking bout the fps, was convinced that my switch was dying on me or something, great game tho
I have played the Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening on gameboy, while I had the Gameboy Advance. And I also played it on emulator and even beat it a year or two ago.

Not a miracle Jake, that is whats called quality something that is forgotten to many developers nowadays.
I replayed the original when they announced the remake, now I don’t feel like paying $60 for a remake

Never played Zelda before but have always loved Link. Not a fan of RPG's but I like the design of this game. Link looks like he's 9 years old here. Looks like I'd need a strategy guide book to play this one.
Game looks great and I want to play it but $60? Really?
When done well, remakes of classic games are well worth that price point. If you trust the review that it lives up to expectations, in terms of faithfulness in its recreation, that's value for money.
If it's not your type of game and just wanna try it out to see if you'll enjoy it, it's probably not worth buying it at that price. Perhaps find a used copy and see if you can get it at a lower price.

Been a Zelda fan since 87. My 6yo loves it more than i do. We have separate saves because he wants no help. Zelda has done more to get him to read than anything else. So its pretty cool to see him reading and solving problems after we did BotW together.
I think the price is too high for how quick it is to finish.
They kept the sound effects when you put your name as Zelda. It brought a tear to my eye
I still want to get this and it came out like 7 months ago 😂

The only Zelda game I ever played and enjoyed was Wind Waker on Nintendo game cube. My daughter has played Breathe of the Wild and she has loved it and beat it.
I am playing it on Hero mode and it's actually pretty tough.
The problem is memory leaks. Hopefully the devs can find a solution.
Am I the ONLY person that wants a Zelda game but in the style of Dark Souls with all the mechanics of the old school top down Zelda games. IE: certain bosses or secrets or dungeons require certain items!
This was also my first Zelda game!! I remember staying up all night with the silly Gameboy light to play this game. I'm really excited to play this one.
So grabbing the heart tank is optional?
