I am so much more interested in smaller and more densely populated worlds. I have a family now and don’t have hours to just roam blindly into vast emptiness
Frankly I'm happy to see another one in this style. I personally dislike the open world zeldas. Not my cup of tea... dislike the gimmicks with the slaye and build stuff in tears bs. Sure, this one has a gimmick, but it feels better in this space than the open world. Though, could just be me. 😅
I'm having a blast. It looks kinda childish in aesthetics department but the mechanics, creativity and gameplay is all top notch for all ages. Highly recommended and if you're a Zelda fan...well it's another 'after you buy' kinda situation. Also, new mic Falcon? Who this?😂
With the existence of the game and Aounuma's comments elaborating on what design principles he told Grezzo to follow with this game, its clear that he wasn't just advocating for all future titles to follow the Breath of the Wild formula (massive focus on open world and shrines and limited dungeons) and was instead talking about ensuring that players always had some sort of choice they could make in how they approach the world. Something that would still be possible with a traditional zelda overworld and dungeons as long as the mechanics allowed for player expression.
It's called "Legend of Zelda" because Zelda is the figure of legend in universe. She is the one one with the sacred powers and a descendant of Hylia. Link is only a tertiary part of that legend.
I appreciate your view of Zelda games. A lot of people are very black and white about what type of Zelda games should exist, but you understand that there's room for all styles of Zelda games and there's a reason why so many people like them.
I love this style. I played the first 2 hours of Breath of the Wild and I just could not get into it. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not for me. My favorite of the series was SNES A Link to the Past. Then comes Minish Cap, Link's Awakening (switch), and this new one seems good. My mom bought it, so I'll play it after she's done, but it looks great. She's loving it so far.
Just finished the game over here. No, I did not 100% the game (plenty of time to do that later). I did go for an "organic" playthrough - I was looking to see how well the MSQ and side quests managed to flow together. It was surprisingly smooth. The game was a fantastic blend of puzzles and action - and if you're clever - you can abuse some seriously OP echo combos. I love LttP, ALBW, LA, and all the top-down games in the franchise. Also, funny you should mention Zelda II - I cheered when I saw you can get the Moa as an echo. I am a long-time biased fan; but I can wholly recommend this game to all Zelda franchise enjoyers. It is a wonderful little story and exceptionally fun. And a tip for those getting stuck at some puzzles: ignore your echoes, can you solve it with bind? Remember, everyone - Good luck and have fun!
@@insanimator Gotcha! If price is a factor, consider investing in a Steam Deck or any Windows handheld in the future. You can simply download any game you want directly onto the console and play it for free. Of course you can continue purchasing any game you want also. Switch emulation is a thing also but it's far from perfect right now.
i simply adore that Link has the Hylian Shield. both Hylian Shield and Epona are not used enough in Zelda games and it's so nice to see Link have at least the shield, even if you're not actively playing as him for 99% of the game. i would love for oldest Zelda games to be remade in this style or similar. i only ever played the 3D games, starting with Ocarina of Time of course back in the day, but would love to play every game if it was remade today.
Finally beat the game and seeing how much stuff I missed like binding enemies. Automatons, certain Echoes, etc. The beauty of EoW is how open and free-form the game is, both with combat and puzzle design. You can literally skip the entirety of Jabul Ruins with just a few echoes.
I'm liking it so far. Starts off slow as you have to build up a collection of echoes, so combat is awkward early on, but, once you have some basic roles covered, you can roam around freely, scaling barriers and collecting echoes through pretty straightforward logic.
I was like. Steer. You.... Nope. Fell off. 3 times. Like watching my mom play the original Super Mario Brothers. Every time. Jumping into the first pit. Was cracking everyone up. Not her likely. We thought it was amusing.
This is one of the best games I've played this year and most creative Zelda games I have played in a long time - as someone burnt out by the series as a whole. I highly recommend this to any fan!!!
Well... since the game dropped they have always shown off that, excluding sword form, you're more like the backline or commander in an RTS than on the front lines slashing and smashing, yeah know?
I wouldn't so much say limited combat just coz you don't have a sword most of the time. There's still a ton of combat and fighting. The way I would describe the fighting is when you would need to fight with items rather than just hack and slash
I'm really enjoying this game, I love the new tools and enjoy the return to the puzzle elements with open solutions. My only grievances are 1) the inconsistent frame rate (gives me a headache) and 2) the "quick" echo selection is a single row of all the possible options (idk how they got out of testing with that lol)
@@Arctis326 True. I was overjoyed when I found out they basically doubled the size of the overworld in an alternate "dimension", only soon to find out how much of a slog it was to explore. It looks like one of those things a dev discovered while messing around with world generation, thought it was cool and they put it in the game without much thought.
this game really feels like the perfect middle ground between modern zelda, and classic zelda. I really hope the main zelda team takes some notes from this, because while I really loved the newer zelda games, I did kind of miss having a LITTLE bit of structure to things.
My biggest criticism is when you get a lot of echoes. It can be quite a chore trying to find the specific echo you wanna make I wish they had more ways of sorting them maybe even a favorite option.
Bought this for my wife last week and she’s been having fun and it looks good. Was carious to hear your review because you like most of the game I like.
Guess what? This is yet another game that does it better than Pokemon. Why am I saying that? Well, think about it; you're catching the echos of monsters you defeat, which you can then summon to fight other monsters. Echoes of Wisdom is a better Pokemon game than the last few actual Pokemon games!
Im loving it. So far, its incredibly easy. The BotW style items make every encounter and puzzle a breeze. And fighting enemies is kinda bad lol. That said, its still fun to cheese every puzzle. Collecting echoes feels good. Quests actually have rewards (most of them give upgrade materials that actually makes you stronger). And i kove being Zelda. The princess is loose and mercy is off the table.
Yep, same. I have a lot of gripes about these new Zelda games. The toxic fans who believe Zelda can do no wrong are starting to make me sour on a series I played before many of these "gamers" parents reached puberty.
@@last_gasp2152Makes you use a variety of weapons and tactics. Sticking to one weapon would make combat monotonous. Many open world games fill ur inventory with useless stuff you will never use. BOTW and TOTK give everything viability.
@@ShanePZC I've touched it. The legitimate criticism made against durability was towards the other 2 games, not EoW. Read the comment again and I think you'll see.
I don't know how to exactly describe it properly but I consider Breath of the Wild to be the same thing as a single kingdom from Mario Odyssey but blown up to a giant map. Finding a shrine is the equivalent of finding a moon and then if you have to go into a tunnel and play a special area to get the moon That's the same as playing a shrine in order to get the reward from the shrine rather than it just giving it to you for finding it. The characters obviously have completely different movesets in each of the games but That's the main difference honestly. Sometimes when I play a video game I just want to play like the core gameplay of the game and I don't care about all the other fluff so I'll end up just playing the mode that gives you just the core gameplay. Well when I finally got bored of The main game which is Breath of the Wild then I went and played Mario Odyssey. I hope I did at least somewhat of a good job of describing and so that's why having Zelda games like Link's Awakening are good. Less story and more gameplay though the story in Link's Awakening is pretty good.
MAN, these top down Zelda games are so good and innovative. A Link Between Worlds felt so different and this one feels so different. It’s really incredible what the design team for Zelda does.

Damn, I surely missed the feeling of needing a shameful amount of time to solve a puzzle that was designed to be also solved by six year old kids because I was thinking way too complicated and began to questioning myself on how I even made it through elementary school but then felt really accomplished when I finally solved it. Classic Zelda. I love it. That one puzzle in that one dungeon. Pretty sure the game design was hinting me in the direction on how to solve that puzzle. But instead I just started to rage spawn echoes for half an hour until I finally solved it by accident. It worked. I don't know how. But it worked.
Yeah I'm shocked that Falcon made it seem like the frame dips were minor and easy to ignore. We aren't talking about seldomly going from 60 to the low 50s, its having the frame rate cut nearly in half. Digital Foundry did a great video on this and showed how jarring the performance is in certain areas. Having constant frame drops at this level takes away from the game's enjoyment. I kinda wish Gameranx started out the video talking about this and showed examples instead of putting it towards the end of the video where not everyone will make it that far.

The monster itself does not, but its effects do. Early on you get a Burning Ball type monster. You can freely pick it up and throw it around and what not. But anything it catches on fire will damage you as well. This can happen with other effects too if the monsters trigger environmental traps.

Who this?😂
Yes. We should have blood and gore and sex scenes. No
Just wait until you have 50 echoes
If you think this game looks childish, try world of final fantasy.. That is probably one of the weirdest final fantasy games lol...
Should’ve called this game The Legend of Link.
That would have been perfect 😂
"Should of"
Shut up npc
It's called "Legend of Zelda" because Zelda is the figure of legend in universe. She is the one one with the sacred powers and a descendant of Hylia. Link is only a tertiary part of that legend.
@@Amins88 Yeah but link does everything! Fighting monsters, time traveling, saving the world
It’s very refreshing and I love the pacing!
I appreciate your view of Zelda games. A lot of people are very black and white about what type of Zelda games should exist, but you understand that there's room for all styles of Zelda games and there's a reason why so many people like them.
I prefer the top down style Zelda game, breathe of the wild and tears of the kingdom were doing way too much for me.
I’m through 2 dungeons and it feels like the perfect blend of old and new. Really loving it.

Remember, everyone - Good luck and have fun!

i simply adore that Link has the Hylian Shield. both Hylian Shield and Epona are not used enough in Zelda games and it's so nice to see Link have at least the shield, even if you're not actively playing as him for 99% of the game.
i would love for oldest Zelda games to be remade in this style or similar. i only ever played the 3D games, starting with Ocarina of Time of course back in the day, but would love to play every game if it was remade today.
I think once people have had time to digest it, it will eventually go down as one of the best in the series. Really well designed game
Yep, just like most zelda games.
Finally beat the game and seeing how much stuff I missed like binding enemies. Automatons, certain Echoes, etc. The beauty of EoW is how open and free-form the game is, both with combat and puzzle design. You can literally skip the entirety of Jabul Ruins with just a few echoes.
This game is impressive, it definitely has the vibe of old-school LoZ hybridized with BotW/Tears game play down to the menus
I'm liking it so far. Starts off slow as you have to build up a collection of echoes, so combat is awkward early on, but, once you have some basic roles covered, you can roam around freely, scaling barriers and collecting echoes through pretty straightforward logic.
5:50 lol, it makes sense for Falcon to have trouble riding a horse.

This is one of the best games I've played this year and most creative Zelda games I have played in a long time - as someone burnt out by the series as a whole. I highly recommend this to any fan!!!
Is the game still good with limited combat? Thats my biggest concern since you're not really fighting as you're mostly summoning
sounds fun, but more a puzzle approach than action
Well... since the game dropped they have always shown off that, excluding sword form, you're more like the backline or commander in an RTS than on the front lines slashing and smashing, yeah know?
I wouldn't so much say limited combat just coz you don't have a sword most of the time. There's still a ton of combat and fighting. The way I would describe the fighting is when you would need to fight with items rather than just hack and slash
I'm really enjoying this game, I love the new tools and enjoy the return to the puzzle elements with open solutions. My only grievances are 1) the inconsistent frame rate (gives me a headache) and 2) the "quick" echo selection is a single row of all the possible options (idk how they got out of testing with that lol)
Did Falcon just say that botw and ToTK are 50 hours long? Rookie numbers.
TotK was trash anyway. Tediousness of the Kingdom or Tears of the Boredom would be much better titles
50 hours barely even touches a quarter of the game. The underworld doubles that.
@@Amins88problem is, the underworld is just mostly busy work. It’s such a big map but barely anything on it
@@Arctis326 True. I was overjoyed when I found out they basically doubled the size of the overworld in an alternate "dimension", only soon to find out how much of a slog it was to explore. It looks like one of those things a dev discovered while messing around with world generation, thought it was cool and they put it in the game without much thought.
@@JM-pm1yb I liked it, but to each their own!
this game really feels like the perfect middle ground between modern zelda, and classic zelda. I really hope the main zelda team takes some notes from this, because while I really loved the newer zelda games, I did kind of miss having a LITTLE bit of structure to things.

It’s not that simple.
It’s worse
@@tanzolo4487well it’s gotten worse. And sure it’s simple. Design the game graphically and mechanically to be able to run smoothly on your hardware. Don’t make a game that the only console it will be on can’t run it. Performance is very bad. The game suffers from FPS drops, especially in open areas. It killed the enjoyment for me.
Cool, I'll pass on this one.

The monster itself does not, but its effects do. Early on you get a Burning Ball type monster. You can freely pick it up and throw it around and what not. But anything it catches on fire will damage you as well. This can happen with other effects too if the monsters trigger environmental traps.
