  • Join us on our final stop in Greenland as we explore the unique and historic capital city of Nuuk! Known as "the headland," Nuuk sits at the edge of a large peninsula at the mouth of a giant fjord system. Founded in 1728 by missionary Hans Egede, it is the oldest town in Greenland and the world's smallest capital city, with only 16,000 inhabitants.
    Despite the cold and windy summer weather, we ventured out to discover what Nuuk has to offer. Come along and explore with us!

      Coming from the UK I think it would be a little too cold. The UK can be very cloudy and wet also.

    I spent 3 seasons in Nuuk fishing, leaving Newfoundland in april & returning in oct, got to know many locals, very friendly folk,

    just normal day in greenland sometimes it freezing sometime itll boil you (in my opinion cuz i hate too warm weathers)

    That little cemetery along our Main Street is not in the “middle of town”. It was in use as a cemetery from 1933 to about 1964. In those days Nuuk was much smaller. Before WWII, less that 800 people lived in Nuuk, by 1964 the number had grown to about 3000.
    The entire town in the 1930s was primarily located around to old colonial harbour, the cemetery being outside on the town area.
    The city of Nuuk effectively grew up around the cemetery, which is not in use today. As of March 2024 Nuuk has a current population of 19,800.

    The International Airport in Nuuk. Will open november 28th 2024. Then it will be easier to come to Nuuk.

    The gray house. Below the Church of Our Saviour. Is the house of the Danish State's Ombudsman. Which is the highest authority in Greenland. Who is responsible for
    jurisdiction over those areas. Such as the Police, the High Court, the Danish Navy. And the gray house also houses the royal couple when they are visiting Greenland.

    It's in the 20th century. Inuit Kalaallit get taste of European/Danish lifestyle and food. And there are no better to wear Inuit clothing in the winter. It is much warmer than the Europeanian cloth. And Inuit cloth is more expensive to get than European cloth.
