2015 Thorin living in a tiny studio in northeast England. Now he living wherever tf he wants (Amsterdam currently) living a good life. Love you Thorin!
+CatnamedMittens “Michael Bialas” thanks for directing me here from "all i want to do is win" good video, :) was just practicing my surfing whilst i was listening
+Ashuvain You mean thoughts on general topics? Everything Thoorin produces are personal thoughts. He is definitely insightful, not sure knowledgeable is the right word. But I definitely agree with you, he should start a separate non-esport channel.
+Tim Cheong He is just knowledgeable in a huge variety of things like sports, competition, books, philosophy and psychology. A non esports segment or channel would be great!
***** He is knowledgeable, insightful, and very articulate. His experiences and the people who keep him additionally informed help propel him to the upper echelon of e-sport personalities.
It's crazy to watch this video back again and see myself now. I've found a craft to dedicate my life to and filled that existential hole. When I was younger I thought I wanted to become an esports athlete but with more experience in life it was never something I wanted. I took time alone to discover my identity that I was sorely lacking and found an identity and community I wholeheartedly stand for. Thank you Thorin for your guidance.
***** In his words you'd have missed the point and that would offend him ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) This is a skill he has developed with a lot of dedication and hard work.
This guy is fkn amazing. I got so much better in school just by listening to him. He can talk about 1 topic for such a long time and his line of argumentation always is on point and hes speaking so fluently and emotionally, which really helped me to improve my argumentations and explanations in some way. Awesome!!
This is why competition in general is fascinating. Glad to see someone taking up the task of sharing this perspective to the public, more people need to know.
It is crazy that i didnt know much about esports when this came out. I used to watch and love the original SI with you and monte and I have been a huge fan of your content since then; regarding you as a legendary figure in esports that probably wont ever be replaced or have an equal in what you do best. I hadnt seen too many videos like this one since you make so much fucking content but going back and finding GOLD like this is what inspires me. I learned so much from this vid as well as others but this one seemed like it was about life and really hit me as something i needed to hear based on some struggles i have been going through. I appreciate all the work you do off cam to master your craft and bring infotainment to people. I hope to become as valuable in niche im passionate about as you have in this one. What a fucking way to do it man!
Great video overall, very entertaining, holds the viewers attention and gives information not only about gaming, but life as well. With great examples and analogy. Thorin needs to write a book. Speaking of books, anyone know if Thorin's name is from The Dark Tower series (particularly book four) by Stephen King?
One of the best Thooorin's thoughts ever. Very well thought out and expressed. Also my favorite esports personality talking about my favorite sportsman Novak Đoković makes it even better.
I honestly didn't expect such a brilliant speech. The whole video is wonderfully articulated, the points at the end are spot on and the passion is just the cherry on the cake. Cheers Thorin !
Revisiting this after the insane 5 hour Wimbledon Finals today - just to hear you talk about Joker again. Incredible insight. This is so amazing to watch again after especially after today's events.
Love this one especially. This is exactly why i love to watch sports. because this moment when the loser becomes a winner. thats acrually what life is about. overcoming your weakness. not only your athletics but methally, spiritually in all parts of life. to witness a moment were someone actually does it is just beatiful. and your way of structuring your thoughts about it, explaing it and being invested in it to, is just a pleasure to watch (even made me a little emotional). you are becoming a wise man - keep going.
i respect you more than anyone in the esports scene, and you once again give me a reason to why that is. i can relate to the last 5 minutes, im a little lost in life, thinking about greater things, about art and searching fortitude in not existing worlds. searching for relief and catharsis in my soul. keep on doing that and reach out for players who struggle, they may not realise what you do but one day they will be greatful.
I expected a video adressing the huge amount of booing when olofmesiter (fnatic) went up on stage to be interviewed. i felt so sorry for the guy... he just won and then got shit reception. i get that people dont like fnatic, but christ! that was just a sad crowd.
There's nothing really to say about that though. Fans will be fans, they're not expected to keep the same professional aura like the players are. If you think that was bad, look at fans of pro sports teams. I've gone to soccer/football games where the entire arena of fans boo the visiting teams when they're being introduced before the game. I'm not trying to justify booing, I think it's a really shitty thing to do, but trying to tell fans to not boo and try to put down the "enemy" team in any way they can that just beat their favorite team is going to do anything. Huge props to Taz for sticking up for Fnatic and Olof in front of his own fans. We need more of that.
Le Vellor I always think that cheering one team/booing the other before+during the game is to be expected/acceptable. But when one team has won you should cheer them out of respect of how well they played, wether you like them or not.
Listening to these vids regular lately. I like that you're bringing topics outside of esports into your vids thorin. You should keep doing this and have vids that sometimes just tackle general life topics
I have actually learned more from these videos, than from the how to videos on youtube. The movies where you talk about the strengths and weaknesses of pro players have made me more aware of my own flaws, and more importantly my strength. For anyone who sees my movies you will se I am still a shit player, but lately I have actually gotten better :) So thank you, and keep going!
Really liked this one, you have a great way of adding ideas on top of other ideas and topics flowing into other topics. Been watching all your videos for a while now and love them all, keep at it man
Man i loved Agassi! So small yet so great! I'll never forget a semi-final vs Sampras in 2000 Australian Open, where, in a bo5, he was down 2-1 on sets and wins the 4th on tiebreak and goes to win that match, which turned into a total endurance race, and the tournament itself.
An interesting and importing thing to note for the Djokovic analogy, the main reason he was having trouble performing in Grand Slams is that he always seemed to run out of gas as he progressed through the bracket. Around 2010-2011, he found out that he was gluten intolerant and changed his diet accordingly. We can see the huge impact of this change by looking at his Grand Slam performance timeline: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novak_Djokovic#Grand_Slam_tournament_performance_timeline
Let me start by saying, I've watched a lot of your videos over a variety of subjects, your alpha cost, thorin's thoughts, SI, counter points, reflections and from pretty much most of your content uploaded. And I think this video is by far your best yet. Everyone could really be happier, more successful, and better for filled if they heard what was said in this video and applied it in their life as I have happily discovered recently after starting a new job. Definitely be sharing this video and applying how it can be implemented when motivating and training a team. Keep the ego away and at bay :) shpongle
Although that really is MJ's most iconic moment, I think that the one that best describes the growth that Thorin refers to is the moment when he won the NBA championship by passing the ball at the last second to Steve Kerr. Old Michael would simply take that shot no matter if he was defended by 3 players. But he learned to trust his teammates. There's a great anecdote of Kerr and MJ fighting in practice that helped him trust him, you can youtube it if you want!
Sometimes you want to press that thumb up buttons more than once, but you can't.. What you said is really meaningful to me, cause sometimes i feel trapped cause people doesn't understand my need to "perfect" myself and become stronger, not just at a game (CSGO), but mentally stronger, more mature, smarter, physically stronger... just trying to enhance myself, cause its not because the mass is pursuing a certain path... that i have to do the same. I like being different, i like playing differently or originally, sometimes its a flaw cause i've lost so much during my gaming experience, my wakening was in a game (WoW) one day, its like looking to broke a code, everything add up and completed my "skill" puzzle i became smarter just by taking the time to understand, to read. Admitting flaws is a big relief, after that there is just light.
Really wonderful last 5 minutes, maybe you could try a podcast about current events, sports and etc. In the future? Your insight into most topics are a pleasure to listen to.
so deep...too deep that i want to cry....i think i am one of those people....always only the second smartest kid in school...but don't have any dreams at all....
Would be dope to see some videos pertaining to your philosophy and just your general thoughts about some of the topics you talked about in this video, the last 5 minutes especially.
Some people live their entire lives in ingnorance, or unaware of the emptiness of life. Some people find the void scary, and try to fill the hole with anything that they can find; alcohol, drugs, sex. I like to take comfort in knowing that life has no meaning, we are insignificant to the universe. Alright, enough, good video thooorin. Still waiting for the Jatt video.
Thorin, how do you have such a comprehensive sports knowledge? It seems like you're on top of everything. Have you gone through phases of liking different sports or do you watch/read about a little of everything every day? Edit: Also, now that I've watched the end of this video two times I still don't get what he's trying to say. Can anyone rephrase it for me?
I wish you talked about boxing or mma aswell in your sports examples, 'cause your basket and tennis examples are awesome, not to mentions some others you use like acting and such. I mean, when I apply your sorta perspective to Muhammad Ali, Myke Tyson, Floy Mayeather, Sonny Lisbon etc etc it's awesome.
Ronnie O'Sullivan really comes to mind with these examples. The most talented snooker player ever, who barely achieved anything close to his potential, who got it together in the end stage of his career and made a dominant return.
after listening so many videos of his I'm starting to talk like him body language and all (well except accent sadly), I notice people often listen more closely now :D.
Damn, I am currently going through a point in my life where I am really evaluating whats the point of it all. This video definitely made me think about what my passions are, what my weaknesses are and what my strengths are. Thanks for this Thorin, this was really great to hear. Keep up the good work. Cheers
I wish there was an example of someone who was or might be held back by their personal demons to make it pro. I understand it can cover anyone with a passion in life but as it pertains to esports(mainly league) the name that immediately comes to mind is RNG Remelia
"Public opinion is a weak tyrant compared with our own private opinion. What a man thinks of himself, that is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate." Thoreau, "Walden" ;)
The last 5 mins of this reveal a much deeper and insightful mind than 'eSports Historian'...
Zuikaku Yeah but people like to dismiss Thorin because he tends to come off as very abrasive and blunt personality-wise.
Sorenthaz most of it its a (self admitted) persona. Bluntness generates controversy, controversy brings views.
Zuikaku kancolle1
Sorenthaz Those are my favourite people to argue and debate, because while I may not like what he says, I will absolutely learn something if I listen.
I'm a simple man. If I see a Thorin video, I press like.
FatPure7 I'm a simple man.
I see bad meme, I press dislike.
oh wait...
FatPure7 I'm a simple man. I see Thooorin's obssession over device, I press dislike.
2015 Thorin living in a tiny studio in northeast England. Now he living wherever tf he wants (Amsterdam currently) living a good life. Love you Thorin!
Keep coming back to these older videos because they are still incredibly insightful.
By far Thooorin's best video. Very deep, and thought provoking video. I love it so much.
+CatnamedMittens “Michael Bialas” thanks for directing me here from "all i want to do is win"
good video, :) was just practicing my surfing whilst i was listening
+Kazumah Lucky sob.
Thorin I think you should start making personal thoughts vlogs, or just vlogs in general. You are very knowledgeable about things other than Esports.
Ashuvain Yup, his thoughts/opinions are really interesting and sometimes even inspirational.
Ashuvain It's almost like he is a grown up man :)
It's crazy to watch this video back again and see myself now. I've found a craft to dedicate my life to and filled that existential hole. When I was younger I thought I wanted to become an esports athlete but with more experience in life it was never something I wanted. I came back here to see if anyone else had recently commented. This video made such a huge contribution to my life.
Every couple of weeks i find myself coming back to watch this video, some of your best work in my opinion.
This man knows what hes talking about!
Predicted i have always stood by CLG as the superior team
+CLG Jatt more like TSM Jatt
Holy shit, Thorin knows how to fucking talk. That's what he was born to do.
***** In his words you'd have missed the point and that would offend him ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) This is a skill he has developed with a lot of dedication and hard work.

Man the last minutes... Feels like he is speecking out of my soul :(
Still my favorite thoorin video after all these years.
This is still Thorins best video imo
Thooorin, the e-Sports Philosopher, I love it!
Possibly Thorin's magnum opus of youtube videos
This is definitely the best video Thorin has done.
When i go and play dm now im gonna imagine everyone on the server is listening to thorin too
haha yeah
This is why competition in general is fascinating. Glad to see someone taking up the task of sharing this perspective to the public, more people need to know.
One of my favorite Thorin videos, returned to watch it once again. Good job man :)

This video is truly inspirational. You're knocking it out of the park with these Thorin. Bravo!
Very insightful, Thorin. Your content often gives me lots to ponder. Cheers mate
every your video is getting better and better. I really like what you are doing. Keep it comin' man.

Sometimes, you lisent to someone and go "this man knows his shit, shut up and lisent" to yourself.
This video was truly inspireing, Thanks Thorin!
Also, at 30:52 you are talking about some documentaries/movies. Thorin, could you link them or give titles in the description?
Jaari I'd love that too
Agreed
And I would also really appreciate if you make a list of books to read. As many of them as possible.
Revisiting this after the insane 5 hour Wimbledon Finals today - just to hear you talk about Joker again. Incredible insight. This is so amazing to watch again after especially after today's events.

Still an absolute banger video 7 years later.

Le Vellor That was really shitty of the people at Cologne. At least they didn't riot like they do for football shit.
There's nothing really to say about that though. Fans will be fans, they're not expected to keep the same professional aura like the players are. +Samuel Swindley Well said man. I agree.
Samuel Swindley
I completely agree! it was just the cancer and cringe moment when he was on stage... i had to close the stream.
For me this is Fear in DotA 2, he was unwavering in his goal. This is why he is a DotA legend.

Thank you for posting these videos thorin, i really enjoy watching them!
Really liked this one, you have a great way of adding ideas on top of other ideas and topics flowing into other topics. Been watching all your videos for a while now and love them all, keep at it man
Wow this ep has been one of your best. Thorin, the sage life coach delivering mantras under the guise of an esports analyst.
Wow. Last 5 or 6 minutes were awesomely insightful and really helped me in my life right now tbh.
I love your work and appreciate all the thorough videos Thorin.

Those last few minutes were brilliant.
was expecting a video discussing ESL One :/
+Luky- so ikr! he said he'd do a lot of ESLvids in By The Numbers
Brilliant video as usual Thorin, you clearly take pride in your content :-)
This was very insightful. Thank you for going in depth with real world sports, really good stuff.
How come is that I pop in for "just few moments" and stay for the whole video simply because
I
just
can't
stop
listening
to
it.

I would just love to see Thorin make NBA analysis. As a basketball junkie, he just knows so much!
one of your best, Duncan. Thanks.
Wow, that's a masterpiece video, Thorin.
Thorin droppin the philosophy, love it thorin keep adding those tidbits in man, you'll make a difference in the world :D
Insane job on this video Thorin. Absolutely inspiring
Hey, could you list some on the books and documentaries of self discovery you would recommend?
Although that really is MJ's most iconic moment, I think that the one that best describes the growth that Thorin refers to is the moment when he won the NBA championship by passing the ball at the last second to Steve Kerr. Fuck yes! I got my Thooorin fix. Thank god! I was suffering from withdraw.

Its amazing coming back to this and recognizing the guys who made it (S1mple, Doublelift) and who didn't (Forg1ven).
Thooorin your alphadraft commercial is legendary
What happened to the csgo Thorin vs reddit? :(
damn son, didn't think you had these thoughts about life, nice to see someone else seeing things the same way :)
Thoorin You are fuckin awesome and I mean it
fucking loved this, especially the last 5 min - how frequently you go that deep is up to you but it was great.
Thorin you really are one of a kind. Thank you
I want Thorin to be my therapist. I really just wanna sit and talk to him for 4 hours just from that bit about not being able to help people.
Really wonderful last 5 minutes, maybe you could try a podcast about current events, sports and etc. In the future? Your insight into most topics are a pleasure to listen to.
Thorin you are a kind and generous person.
Thx for shareing
that ending really spoke to me :D
Thorin's talk about Jordan's big hands made me think of the faceit desk xD
so deep...too deep that i want to cry....i think i am one of those people....always only the second smartest kid in school...but don't have any dreams at all....
Great video as always - would it be possible to give a few examples of the books you've recommended to players?

Doublelift?
aceflashheart Xmithy. Guy improved like 500% over the split.
+aceflashheart all of clg tbf
+aceflashheart Definitely one of many players Thorin's describing.
They all played well. Really well.
soeren555 Not what this video was talking about. Talented people who show their strengths yet can't succeed.
gr8 video thorbin
this will be played years later i bet you
Thorin, how do you have such a comprehensive sports knowledge? It seems like you're on top of everything. Have you gone through phases of liking different sports or do you watch/read about a little of everything every day?
Edit: Also, now that I've watched the end of this video two times I still don't get what he's trying to say. Can anyone rephrase it for me?
inspire me thorin. inspire us all pls
Nice name spelling
Damm bro, Sonny Liston, Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson. I didn't even thought about checking thanks
doublerift is nothing compared to me, i way more mechonically intensive prayer, but tsm will never know because tfw no gf ;[. gg
There you are.
vvvortic and heres bbbortic on a slump. tilted .gg
I'm going to watch this once a month. Thooorin the motivational speaker is at least a genius as Thooorin the Esports journalist/historian.
what are some of the books you would recommend to the players? great video btw:)
How did I miss this banger! Who let you cook like this!
That smirk at the end :D Cheeky thorin
This is probably the best video I've ever seen on fucking youtube.
I come back to this Video every few months to remind me that while I am "broken" at least Thorin gets it.
Would like too believe that means something.
The video was great, but those last five minutes - fucking amazing.
I understand it can cover anyone with a passion in life but as it pertains to esports(mainly league) the name that immediately comes to mind is RNG Remelia
your best vid in a long long time
Came for some CS competative thoughts, stayed for some amazing life tips.
Thanks Thorin for the video man, really interesting concept.
Thorin, you are an eSport Philosopher!
