+ponsoke I Know it turned to shit I hoped he would have been like wayne Gretzky was the best in his career path much LIKE ALPHA DRAFT A FANTASY E SPORTS COMPANY WHO WORKED HARD GRINDED AND STILL HAS DISCIPLINE AND DRIVE. LOL
Reminds me a bit of a saying one of my old band teachers had. "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect." Point being, you do something the wrong way over and over, not only does it not mean shit in terms of your progress, it's actually detrimental more often than not.
Agreed with this video! Sometimes it is just easier to accept to not make those sacrifices, but in those cases it is pointless to say "I want to only win".
Your comments on 'They want to win with friends..." are spot on. For EVERY game Ifollow, there always seems to be one team like this. They'd rather lose as 5, than win as 3. Great point, m8.
This topic seriously hit home. After i won my first national title in volleyball i didn't had that kind of mind set that Thoorin was talking about or that drive to win. Even though we had several more chancen to take back our title as champions we always ended on somwhere from 2-6 place , and though everything was okei because we have won before. In all of the 12 national tournament i've played i've only won 2 of them. Kinda wish that i've seen this earlier.
I needed this video like... 10 years ago especially the video with the fundamentals. It's easy to walk the walk when one thinks they know everything regarding aspects of improvement and even easier to run the mouth, but actually getting there at absolutely ALL COSTS is something else and I was a victim of my own blindness. Thanks.
Kobe has plenty of stories like that, his finger is fucked btw its completely twisted due to playing a full year and playoffs with it broken. I remember one game of his, it goes way back in the Shaq era, random season game in Chicago, they werent fighting for the playoffs or anything, and he had this shoulder injury where he couldn't shoot with his dominant right hand, and he not only played, but dropped like 38 and won the game... Some dude just have this surreal will to win, to a level where its almost unhealthy, but to me its amazing and I admire it.
This applies to almost any goal in life (without the "just" part). I think it helps greatly to have a strong reason (to you) to why you wanna win. So that whenever you wanna be comfortable you push yourself back. With time you wouldn't to refer to that reason anymore and you'd have formed a solid mindset that keeps you pushing forward.
What he says can be applied across the board in any professional discipline. Sentiment like "I just want to be paid more" or "I just want the job that I want" none of that will just fall into your lap through talent alone, sure it helps initially but if you don't round out your skills, sacrifice a little bit of a strength to improve a weakness you'll hit the same hurdles he talks about in this video. +1
This was actually a really great video. So relevant to esports, yet it and the role of coaches are parallels to traditional sports that many figures in esports refuse to embrace especially in the western regions.
my ak spray has been complete ass recently i just kept playing thinking it would improve, this inspired me to spend 3-4 hours in recoil maps to make it consistent again. thanks thorin
wow just wow.... one of the greatest videos on youtube as of now... seriously!!! i dont think im the only one who sees themselfs in this not only gamewise... it describes my university expirience perfectly... Well done thorin well done m8...
I was tilted, I went into a bot game and threw smokes for an hour, I just woke up and now im writing down all my flaws I can see in my game. Thanks for steering me in the right direction, hard work is good but smart work is key.
KEEP AN EYE ON THOSE THUMBNAILS, OVER THE NEXT MONTH THE TRANSFORMATION FROM MILD MANNERED CLEAN SHAVEN THORIN TO ULTRA HOBO MOUNTAIN THORIN WILL BE COMPLETE
Another great video Thorin. A lot of players in NA lack the practice mentality, where as you said they're focused on the short term scrim wins, etc, instead of focusing on preparing in the correct manner to win the games that matter. I linked this video on ESEA in hopes that some players recognize the mistakes they're making when it comes to practice so they can change their mentality in regards to improving with the correct mindset.
Very interesting topic. I think it was quite poignant to talk about the post-tournament "high" and the difference between what you're going to do instead of what they already did. Very, very true.
Such a deep and inspirational video. I love these videos the most. Here's another amazing one from Thooorin if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/_NVe-oAjA_s/видео.html It's one of my all-time favorites.
Great Video man, really insightful and well presented. What I really like about it, is that you can also apply what you're saying in a normal life environment, not only esports or sports in general. This is a general mentality that you can see in every aspect of life, whether its work or family, etc...Succeeding in anything really, takes time and the right effort that one needs to put in order to reach his "trophy", and this takes dedication, commitment and resilience to accept failure and to always be able to adapt to anything that a situation throws at you. Again really wana thank you for this, Keep it up :)
I think this is very much so the same for CLG (LoL), they just wanted to win. When they went to worlds and didn't perform, they did show that it's just that the stars aligned the correct way, for the season in NA, and not that they had fixed anything of value in their team.
If you do something for a living, your end goal should be "I wan't to be the best at what I do, because it's how I allow myself to live, buy food and things, pay my bills, I have to be good." If you perform in competitions for a living, no matter if its eSports or physical sports or fucking idk painting? your end goal should always be to win, because that's how you make your living. HOWEVER, you should never "settle" for being the best, and you should never tell yourself you're the best. That will be your downfall eventually. You have to always put in time, effort, practice, research, and as soon as you don't WANT to do that anymore, or CAN'T do that anymore, it's the end of your reign as one of the best (look at Sean Gares for example). Winning and being the best has to be your end goal, but in a sense you can't allow yourself to reach it, or else you'll be your own downfall.
I think he is right, because of two things: - for me, the best and most complete player in football history is Zinedine Zidane, and he worked his fucking ass off to become the best. He might not be the most gifted like Ronaldinho or Messi or whatever, but he was more complete than these guys, and thus able to almost win matches single-handedly (just look at France vs Bresil in 2006's World Cup). So to be the best, you need to work more than anyone else, and most people think talent is what makes the greatest. - work always surpasses talent in the long run, and it keeps you down-to-earth
Let me clarify. If I am extremely gifted I don't need to work hard to be good at what I'm gifted at, but if I am extremely gifted and my competitor is very gifted than if he works hard and I don't he will be a lot better than me. If my competitor is only a little gifted than no matter gow hard he works he's likely never to surpass me at least significantly. If a swimmer is a god he is not like that because he works hard. He is a god because he was extreamly gifted. If he wasn't training alone wouldn't push him to that level. Yes he likely needa to work hard to get there, but he wouldn't get there without being gifted.
+The Law Talent sure plays a big part, but working is in my opinion even more important. And I'm saying this because despite being the most intelligent kid in the class, people working their ass off often get better results than me (even though they studied 10x more than me for like one or 2 more points) xD
+Durandal Sword Than they are close enough in talent where they can slightly surpass you with hard work if you don't try hard. I also think things like math are special, because if you were able to get to highschool you should only need to memorize minus anomalies. Unlike sports if you are very good at math you will both finish the problem, but you will finish first. In sports if you are more gifted you have more options. More answers to a problem because you can perform better allowing you do things lesser players can't.
+danne Wallin I want to see what the organisation that is G2 who is also supported by Kinguin can bring to the ex-titan lineup that Damian Gurst could never give, and that's stability to the team in terms of finance, not to mention lack of bad reputation like that of the KQLY ban Titan bared before. And of course any possible future changes to the line up G2 could undergo such as replacing rpk with nbk and bringing the team back to the Very games Era... And I want to see what Duncan thinks :)
I was really expecting a Kobe and Shaq example of playing with people you are not fond of for the greater good of the team allowing you to be in the best possible position to win.
Nobody is going to say after a loss well I'm okay with this and I could work harder but its just not worth it to me. I do agree that they don't mean they just want to win, but idk what they should say instead.
I always find it hilarious his apartment temperature is so cold he has to dress in winter gear when sitting at his desk. I still find his input and thoughts well thought out and I like his commentary and analysis but I hope one day he gets paid enough that he can turn that heater up.
Bit out of left field Thorin, but you should check out Jocko Willink. Saw him on the Joe Rogan podcast, hes an ex marine who wrote a book about how to succeed and it sounds very similarly along the lines of what you said here.
@Thooorin Do you think a team like Renegades is currently in this state of "I want to win"? Because I look back at their wins when they were Vox and an underdog and feel they had that mentality of pushing themselves as hard as possible, and there were some results to show for this. Now I see them and although we are hearing all the right answers from them when asked about poor results, they are just coasting and want to win and it is not congruent with the actions, game play and results we are seeing from them.
Think exactly what Thorin is saying that people love the Idea of being the best or being the "rock star", but never put in the effort to accomplish the goal.
This is my favorite video of all time. Thorin thank you. My dream is to be a csgo pro. I play on a MacBook pro 2012 on 640 x 480 resolution just to get atleast 120 fps. I have 2k hrs and haven't given up. People are saying I can't but I know I can, and soon Il get a new computer and be even better. This gave me the drive and motivation to have a hunger to improve and win. Thank you. (I'm making a team and I'm IGL)
Thorin if you could make a super team that includes both NA and SA/Brazilian players what would your team look like? FalleN, Hiko, Nitro, Skadoodle, Cold?
its easy to get motivated but hard to stay motivated
+Cri | @G0Cri It's hard to get disciplined but easy to stay disciplined. Adrenaline vs routine.
+Adam G aderall vs routine you mean.....???
+Jiftuq Bf W
+Cri | @G0Cri its not really about motivation that is needed it's drive, motivation fades drive stays with you
+Jiftuq LOL.
to anyone whos reading this comment, you are like me. Bookmarked this video years ago and watch it seemingly every few months. The grind is worth it.
Also applicable- 'Fail to prepare, prepare to fail'.
Seems to be the tl;dw for this video.
Thorin never forget his Alphadraft ads
#Outro
+[Deerv] - Random Videos if u get skrilla for it, you'll never forget about it m8 ;)

NA pros streaming fpl every night. "I just want to win" they said. #nacs
Is this video just a really long alphadraft ad?
I was kind of hoping so, but he started talking about eSports

Great Topic mate.
Agree. This is applicable to success in general.
I can't emphasize enough how captivated I am with the way Thorin is able to convey his thoughts into such profound messages.
I always wonder how will he advertise Alpha Draft. That's the only reason I'm still watching Thorin. ❤️
He'd probably prefer if you leave if you're only here for a less than a minute thing.
+kian griffiths I'm sure that is would rather him stay for that skin money
Reminds me a bit of a saying one of my old band teachers had. "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect." Point being, you do something the wrong way over and over, not only does it not mean shit in terms of your progress, it's actually detrimental more often than not.
still coming back to this video.
2020 and just came back here. This is a great video to come back to when you're having a day where your discipline is off.
@@the_bottomfraggerexactly!
I always come back to this video. It holds true for so many areas in life.
Agreed with this video! Sometimes it is just easier to accept to not make those sacrifices, but in those cases it is pointless to say "I want to only win".

Better than Shia LaBeouf. TY Thooorin, now I know I suck :'(

This video should be shown to every competitive athlete when they are growing up and beyond. Forget about esports this video is 100%. well said.
The AlphaDraft skrilla is at the end :( .... guess I'll have to watch the rest of the video *sigh*

Thorin. Thank you for this. This hit home for me. I appreciate the light to be turned on. This works not only in game but life.
One of the most inspirational videos Thorin has ever made.
I don't follow esports and never will, but this was a great video highlighting why winners win in any competitive environment.
Hi from Brazil Thorin, great topic!
Many players need to choose what they want, too forget the real goal of representing a team and compete.
Tks a lot
These are the epic videos that make Thooorin a legend in esports commentary.

Thorin youre brilliant mate. Dunno where it comes from but you are one of the realest niggas ever.
You are picking interesting topics and I like the way you think them trough.
This is so good. And it applies to almost everything. Not just sports
This video is one of your best yet.
Smiles and success, they seem like an even trade.
"it's like that famous saying.. its something that goes along the lines of like" haha thooorin great banter
Thorin really enjoys being sweaty. Oh the humanity that is a huge jacket.
this honestly applies to life in general, not only sports
If you do something for a living, your end goal should be "I wan't to be the best at what I do, because it's how I allow myself to live, buy food and things, pay my bills, I have to be good."

This applies to my school work so much.
I need to look at this video periodically to buff up my work ethic

- work always surpasses talent in the long run, and it keeps you down-to-earth
That's not entirely true. Talent trumps hardwork at low and mid levels, but as it gets higher talent places less of a factor.
Let me clarify. If I am extremely gifted I don't need to work hard to be good at what I'm gifted at, but if I am extremely gifted and my competitor is very gifted than if he works hard and I don't he will be a lot better than me.

Pfew, I was scared for a moment you forgot the Alphadraft ad...
i respect people who like thorin vids
The excellence of execution.
That was amazing Thorin ! can u please do an episode about life which was arrested ? i'd like to hear ur opinion !
Thank you.
Talk about the new G2 lineup :D
+Bunici It's not even new but ok
+gotland1998 it's a new lineup for G2....

And of course any possible future changes to the line up G2 could undergo such as replacing rpk with nbk and bringing the team back to the Very games Era... And I want to see what Duncan thinks :)
+Bunici There are no new players on it. It is the same lineup that Titan has had for like 6 months
I was just reading about this in Brock Lesnar's book.
This video is my lulluby at night.
this is an amzing video. Good job Thoorin
LOL I KNEW HE WAS NOT GOING TO LEAVE OUT HIS ALPHA DRAFT AD!!
I was really expecting a Kobe and Shaq example of playing with people you are not fond of for the greater good of the team allowing you to be in the best possible position to win.
I thought about you writing a book one day, but not because I wanted to read it, but I wanted to hear you read it to me.
Nobody is going to say after a loss well I'm okay with this and I could work harder but its just not worth it to me. I do agree that they don't mean they just want to win, but idk what they should say instead.

Bit out of left field Thorin, but you should check out Jocko Willink. Saw him on the Joe Rogan podcast, hes an ex marine who wrote a book about how to succeed and it sounds very similarly along the lines of what you said here.
Wicked video. Listening to it while DMing. =)
As always, great video mate.
I really like how thorin is using anologys with "real sports" to compare them with e-sports. It really shows how close they are in comparison.
I feel like this is directed at Shroud.
tsm needs to watch
great toughts, so motivating.
Make a checklist with doublelifts career and check every point from this video
that's a great motivation in general!
awesome message, such truth
Still watching.
