Watching the first part of the video, i can do a DotA 2 comparison as i'm sure Thorin will spend a while making League and CS:GO or even Starcraft comparisons. AdmiralBulldog is a player that had that moment where the meta suited him perfectly. In less than a year of his competitive debut he won TI 3 , but he couldn't hold onto the crown in the following patches and metas. Puppey is a player that has been consistently at the very top of DotA 2. For 4 years, the meta around him changed, the team-mates around him changed yet he still is in the top 3 team in the world. Anyway, just thought of this example while listening to Thorin.
The thing I love most about Thorin's videos is how most of his ideas/theories are also applicable IRL. Never settle boys. Confront your demons and make your mark. Mediocrity isn't a good color on anyone.
Thorin this was a great video! I am that kind of player, who has the hunger to win and will adapt. Sometimes I can't understand players who don't have it. And I think that a team of 5 players with that kind of mentality will have the most success. The best players have this drive.
***** OH PLS, argue with me, i can't wait to hear what you got to say. I guess i'm just a spanish guy, lived in Barcelona, seen the team win the Champions in Rome, etc.... but i don't have a clue.
My highschool football coach didn't stress the aspect of winning, but the aspect of perfection. If you are perfect it is impossible to lose. He expected you to push yourself to become perfect on all fronts of the game
I love how you make the comparisons to other sports. I think as eSports develop people are going to see that the same elements that make great football, basketball, etc. players are what make great eSports athletes.
lul i live to win, the drive came from me always winning things in school as a child, i got used to winning and enjoyed it, and I've never stopped striving for it
Kobe's diet if anyone is curious was a low-carb ketogenic diet which is actually awesome and appropriate for almost anyone (exceptions would be those with gallbladder disease)
Would love a top 20 of greatest csgo players of all time. I watched the top 20 halo players of all time of scott gandhi and really enjoyed it the way he could explain his choices.
Mean/destroying comment instantly made me thing of Ndamukong Suh. Teammates hate comment maybe to Drew Brees because he's obsessive, religious about winning -- basically become a ritual for him. Love the Football references. Keep 'em coming =)
Diamond - Great player that has the winning mentality as he always finds a way to go through every period and make himself relevant even if skill-wise he may not be anymore the best out there. Shook - Great player that lacks the winning mentality as he always finds a way to fuck up because he's never taking the moment of the game as serious as he should. Rekkles - Great player that lacks the winning mentality as proven by his last 6 months. If he doesn't get carried then he can't do shit and blames the environment instead of actually realizing that he should be the central part of that environment and if that he fails to provide security and reason and a driving mentality for the team then he should be the last to complain. Forg1ven - Great player that has the winning mentality as proven by his attitude. While toxic in the past... that kind of toxicity actually showed his incredible motivation to perform and to win games. He was toxic because he hated mediocrity... he still hates it so he performs at a top level exactly because he's driven by a winning mentality. Froggen - Great player that lacks the winning mentality as he usually fails to stay relevant for a longer period of time... and especially fails to perform at high level. I mean his last really good period and only really good period was season 2. Now it's season 5 and he never came close to his season 2 status because he's lacking the winning mentality. He lacked it then as well but the game of LoL was so much more different and CLG had a playstyle that countered the meta pretty hard at the time. xPeke - Great player that has the winning mentality as he usually stays relevant each year even if he has a bad series of games or a more average split compared to his other splits. He always finds ways to play at a top level against better players and even outplay them if possible. xPeke's and sOAZ's motivation in top level games is what drove Fnatic to be great. Thoorin bias towards players like Froggen is completely nonsensical considering he fails to realize how what Froggen has actually doesn't help him win anything. He's like that wannabe analyst that thinks he's a neutral journalist but actually brings his own preferences and subjective views and treat it like it's all objective and that's the way one should analyze players and sports. This is also very hypocritical since Froggen always gets passes and always get put on a pedestal even if he basically failed for 3 years in a row... yes Thoorin.. not getting even close to your season 2 success is basically failing. Hypocritical because you criticize players for the same things you praise Froggen for even if Froggen failed. BUT LETS PRAISE FROGGEN BECAUSE HURR DURR HES THIS GREAT AMAZING PLAYER THAT BORES PEOPLE TO DEATH BECAUSE HE'S A MASTER OF PASSIVE PLAYING TO THE POINT THAT IT'S ANNOYING FOR THE ENEMY PLAYER AND TEAM. WOO WEE SUCH AMAZING PLAYER THAT HE EVEN BORES HIS OWN FUCKING TEAM. Stop being delusional. The main reason why Elements is failing is not Shook and Wickd or Nyph or Kev1n. The main reason why Elements is failing just like EG failed in the end to recreate that CLG brand... just the same way Alliance failed to recreate that CLG brand is BECAUSE OF FROGGEN failing to be a good leader, failing to be the driving force behind his team and FAILING to realize that this game evolved since 2012. FAILING to have that driving force that is a winning mentality and failing to push his teammates forward.
Your points are so ignorant and only motivated by the last few weeks of LCS results, it's actually astounding how stupid it is. It's like people forgot Alliance completely dominated last split, over people such as Diamond (who finished fucking 7th) and xPeke.
i disagree with your analysis of froggen. i think he has both the will to win and the winning mentality. he has most definitely stayed relevant since his season 2 "god-esque" day, albeit maybe performing at a lower level then back then. Last split, he was arguably the best mid laner in EU, maybe best player overall in Europe. His teams (EG, Alliance), have finished top 4 in all playoffs since season 3. Did you forget that Alliance won the summer playoffs with a 3:1 result against Fnatic? Or that he was given the overall MVP of the 2014 EU LCS Spring split? How is that being irrelevant or failing to perform at a high level?
That's a pretty risky mindset, doesn't it make you tilt? Personnally I don't hate losing at all, losing allows you to highlight your flaws and accepting a loss lets you go back to practicing and improving until you lose less and less. Focusing on improving and becoming the best you can be works better for me than purely focusing on winning, what do you think?
Paul Devienne Think of it like this, every time you lose a game, someone slaps you hard in the face. Would you not hate losing then? That's what it feels like to me when i lose.
Right but nobody slaps you in the face. You are slapping yourself right here, and if it helps you that's a good thing, but I would probably tilt. I tend to focus on performance rather than results, I guess we have different mindsets. What's your goal?
The famous tennis pro Roger Federer is like this. After his peak, when he was no longer invincible but still one of, if not the greatest player ever... you could watch him on a bad day: when his shots aren't happening, and not everything's going his way like it used to, and he's up against some huge athlete like Nadal or Djokovic or Roddick... and yet somehow he finds a way to scrap together the game when he needs it.
the best motivational video i can ever listen to. listened to it maybe over 10 times. my nick name is Naplios and one day i will be a csgo champion and thorin will do a video on me. peace out.
Ive got some other examples of winning mentality. Nadal, he is not the greatest player ever, i might not have the best shots, but when he defense... My god he's a fucking monster!! Seems He doesnt give up, i will run every single ball because if he cant hit it, maybe next time he will. And that's his mentality, every point counts, it doesnt matter how the score is... Bobby Fischer is also an example, he was a chess player (some people might not know). He left everything for chess. He has an amazing story of how he became the world champion fighting against the whole soviets players that were working together to not loose the hegemony.
Ok, as much as I understand the circlejerk about Thorin (he can be A DICK sometimes) I have to say that the level of his content on this channel is indescribable for me. And it's free.
Joe Rogan's kick is pretty fucking heavy... EDIT: Hey, Thorin. Did you ever see the video of Joe Rogan demonstrating that kick, and then immediately pointing out a lizard in the corner of the room?
I am trying to look for this thorin video where he mentions this concept of not fucking around in a game and taking it seriously, a phrase that I remember him saying is that, i will paraphrase, "how much time do you have to waste before you realize that this game is imporant" or something along those lines, can anyone help me?
After who is f0rest, I'd really like to see you make a video about Neo. You clearly think he is the best cs 1.6 player and I would like to see more reasons why, since I've come familiar with cs scene with go and have little knowing of what was before.
When people judge a player they're all focus on skills and mechanics. They always forget about teamfighting, about pressuring the map, about making plays and fuckin impact your team. In s2 Alex ich may had a bit less mechanics than Froggen, then everyone say Froggen was better. People forget about how amazing Alex ich was, pressuring the map with his evelyn, his gragas and kassadin ( those two at ECC poland), about his good teamfights and such. This fuckin annoys me. It's not all about sitting mid, farming well with anivia's Froggen and having good mechanics. Alex ich's map vision was way more better whereas mechanics were pretty much the same ( but i'll give this to Froggen imo) If you disagree with me, give me facts and some good reasoning please ? PS : (Thorin is fuckin biaised towards Froggen and M5 ( and i'm a die hard M5 fanboy) ) But other than that, great work tho

I managed to make it to just over 16 minutes into this, since it was highly recommended. Everything he says is better said as "you play against yourself." The way Thorin approaches winning is wrong and damaging. Why discuss the guy being haunted by not winning those 5 finals? Why claim more games are lost than won? First of all, what the fuck does that even mean. It's either you win or you don't. 50/50. At the end of the day, Thorin is the equivalent of a crack head. He wears coats indoors, wears headphones when he's doing nothing but vlogging, and constantly rambles on without purpose. If I were to make a Winning Mentality video, I would do a far better job.
I googled "Thorin", because I want to read more about the Thorin from the Hobbits. But I ended up here. xD
Many of the discussed topics can be applied to any situation in life. Good vid
Absolutely loved this video whenever I need inspiration I am coming back to this ;)
Watching the first part of the video, i can do a DotA 2 comparison as i'm sure Thorin will spend a while making League and CS:GO or even Starcraft comparisons.
Puppey's issue rn has to be the shady stuff behind the scenes
I love how I still come to this video even now because it just that great
The thing I love most about Thorin's videos is how most of his ideas/theories are also applicable IRL. Never settle boys. Confront your demons and make your mark. Mediocrity isn't a good color on anyone.
This video was very generous and thoughtful, feels like a real win!
Ive come back to this video so many times since you released it. Thank you thorin

I dont think you've fully understand the point of it.
Adolfo Domínguez I don't think he did either
I'll be surprised if I don't hear Michael Jordan or Kobe's name somewhere in here
He's gonna compare one of them with JW or some league player somewhere in a video probably.
or forgiven ^^
***** Ibra used to think he was better than Messi when he was in BCN and got kicked because of that, exactly the opposite of a winning mentality

I believe the same mentality applies to some of the best content creators, or possibly any field of work.
4 years late but yeah, as a musician I can say that this applies to music as a career extremely well as well.
