Great review: 4.5 stars! (You lost half a star for not giving BB a full five stars.) I love Blood and Bone. The atmosphere is just so well done - all the different storylines build on each other in such way that the oppressive feeling grows and grows. And, I may be biased, but I've spent enough time in SE Asia that I've been to some of the jungle temples that inspired ICE, including the one on the cover.
So glad that you loved this book. Like I said before, this is my favorite book in NOTME. The environment setting and atmosphere is really great. For me the best duo was Golan and Principal Scribe Thorn. Their interactions were so hilarious, I was laughing out loud. I loved the character interactions between Murk and Sour, and also between Murk and Celeste. It was so refreshing to see different parts of the Crippled God behave differently. Also Kallor was fascinating. From the memories of the old denizens of Jackuruku, it is evident that Kallor was actually a good ruler and it was the Thaumaturgs that didn't like him and brought down the Crippled God to destroy him. Did you catch that it was Kallor at the start, or did you get that at the very end?
Now that you have read Blood and Bone, I HIGHLY recommend watching the video made by AP Canavan (A Critical Dragon channel), named "Kallor and the tragedy of the High King". It will recontextualize everything you know about Kallor.

Totally love the rationale for giving me a 4.5! I also value all you shared. Thanks!

Yes, I caught it was Kallor in the beginning, but still didn't see the ending coming. Loved it!

Thanks for the tip!
Blood and bone is a slow boil. Slow start but ends magnificently.
Magnificent is the perfect description for that ending. Yes!
