sarah here. OKAY I WAS SO WRONG ABOUT SALT AND THE CHEMISTRY BEHIND IT. are you happy? I am a product of the american education system lol
You were so confident tho. I believed you if that matters. ❤

When I was in middle school, the staff held an assembly to raise money for ALS by doing the ALS Ice bucket challenge. BUT a lot of kids didn't know what ALS was because as soon as the teachers dumped the ice water on their head all the children started chanting "ALS! ALS! ALS!" like some sort of victory sports chant. The principle had to come out and tell everyone that it is a deadly disease.
Omg that’s awful I’d cringe so hard 😭
I'm torn between "that's fucking awful" and "that's hilarious" 😭
I mean you guys are literally simulating what the disease feels like to people who are going to die… You guys don’t have to feel the pain once it’s over it’s just a joke. It’s a weird thing to do it all in my Opinion
LMFAOO NAAUR
@@Alexandra-ng1ih I always found that disturbing.. like I thought it was just “ice water poured on person = funny” but simulating the disease? That’s messed up..
I love that people who grew up in the late nineties to early 2010’s are old enough to start analyzing and reflecting on how batshit crazy our little window of internet was
LITERALLY this pod has brought back so many repressed memories I have from the Internet for better or worse 🥴 I'm closer to Brittany's age and it's just a weird nostalgia trip! Love it tho

conan gray also started out on yt and now he's touring the us and europe and is best friends with olivia rodrigo? the collective forgetting where certain people got their fame is such an interesting phenomenon, i would love a podcast episode on it
yesss I remember watching Conan's 'tea time and talk' or w/e and art school videos back in the day. :') So much has changed.
i miss conan's baking and decorating videos so much
you should watch mikes mics video on the influencer to pop star pipeline its rlly good

Britany's burps are a jump scare when you can't see her gearing up to let it rip.
Ok but the choking challenge was actually a thing. I think it was called the pass out game but several kids actually died from it it was insane.
My best friend in high school did it to herself & ended up with a concussion from hitting her head on the coffee table when she fell. 🤦 I didn't realize people were dying from it. 🙁
Lots of internet challenges cause injury or death, I don’t get why people don’t learn.. And I really don’t get why these challenges have to be dangerous so much, can’t they just do something fun..?
Yeah!! I remember that one, I was in elementary school and a friend and I tried it. (Weren't successful thankfully) We learned it as the "fall asleep game", but it was literally just trying to make yourself faint and kids were getting hurt big time.
my friend in college did it twice in one night. the first time we were all laughing bc we were drunk but the second time was actually really scary!!! don’t do it, it’s so dangerous!!
@@KingOfGaymes as someone who participated in almost every painful challenge on the Internet back in the day, the fun was in hurting yourself and seeing how much pain you could take. Basically just seeing how high ur pain tolerance is. Granted I then went on to s/h but that was the appeal generally
My high school's girls basketball team did the salt and ice challenge to BRAND THEMSELVES. It was their way of being closer as a team or something stupid. Parents called the school and we had to have a whole assembly about how we need to honor our bodies(Christian school).
that has to have been the funniest staff meeting
("we need to have an assembly abt how students need to honor their bodies"
"oh, okay. have they been having sex or smth?"
"no. the basketball team branded themselves.")
Similarly, my (boys) soccer team in highschool all bought those cheap washable tattoos and put them on before a game. It was like a team building activity. Mine was on my thigh and was a tiger claw mark with Hawaiian flowers. However, the referee told us we had 30 seconds before the start of the game to remove them or we would forfeit. I believe his reasoning was bc it was "gang behavior". So all of us were viciously rubbing and scraping the tattoos off of our skin. This was an early end to our team building activity.
@@aros1425 arguably every team building activity is gang behavior, those temp tattoos were fine so long as you didn’t get permanent ones for a sports team (especially as minors). 😤
This takes brand content to a whole new level
fun fact latinos have our very own forbidden food n its called fabuloso it smells so fucking good n the packaging makes it look like grape juice but it is in fact floor cleaner
i have something similar with this floor cleaner, forgot tbe brand name but it's bright pink and it looks like bubble gum juice and even as an 18 year old im compelled to chug it
fabuloso is in italy too! 8 year old me was so shocked when my parents finally bought it and used it as floor cleaner... it became a core memory lmao
Wait we have fabuloso in NYS too, we used that alllll the time 🫣
my grandpa used to use that, and GOD IT LOOKED SO DELICIOUS
You just made me remember how fabuloso reminds me of the smell of baking bread.
The fact that Sarah is wearing a "gaylord" hat makes me giggle because I grew up in a town called Gaylord. But I'm 100% sure that hers actually means "gay... lord." LMFAO
First science fact: Adding salt to ice lowers the freezing point of water, that’s why salt gets put on icy roads, it basically “melts” the ice
Second science fact: Since salt lowers the freezing point, the liquid can get very cold, around 0 degrees F (-18 C) and having 0 degree material on your skin can cause burns/frostbite. Intense heat and cold can cause burns
My dumbass 13 year old self did the salt and ice ‘challenge’ and was just enduring the pain so I went a few minutes before I was like, “this is stupid.” Very stupid- I had a rectangular scar on top of my lower arm for YEARS
came here to say this lol
also: it doesn't boil water faster, it raises the boiling point so it actually takes longer to boil but the water is hotter once it does, so the noodles cook faster. the added time probably just gets cancelled out but of course use salt with noodle because yummy
If adding salt to ice lowers the freezing point wouldn’t putting ice make it freeze even more. You mean salt heightens the temperature. Hence melting
@@Alexandra-ng1ih it lowers the freezing point of the saltwater mixture, so the water requires a colder temperature to freeze. so instead of 32 F, it will remain liquid down to 10 F (for example)
Sarah wrong about every salt fact she gave us 🤣
Unintentionally burping in unison with Brittany while watching the podcast is probably one of my proudest moments.
I think that Doja Cat is probably the last huge example of an internet star who turns into an actual huge mainstream celebrity. Her song Moo was a meme that blew her up. Now she is one of the most popular artists of today.
Also fun fact, Colleen Ballinger is an incredible theater trained singer (people usually forget that because of the whole Miranda Sings character) and she used to be one of Ariana Grande's vocal coaches. That is how they became friends, and Colleen is still super close to Ariana and Frankie Grande.
She was in the Thank you, next mv!
I thought they were cousins. They always said that lmao
Not me finding Colleen Ballinger's name in the comment section after the Scandal of her acting inappropriately towards her fans (who were minors) and her subsequent extremely bad apology 💀💀
The fun fact aged so poorly
Me reading this fun fact today: 👁️👄👁️
you say "asphyxiation challenge" as a joke but that was actually a thing where kids would choke eachother to black out point to "get high"
Sarah is on board with ripping their cousin's skin off with a frozen spoon but draws the line at salt+ice chemical burns 🤦♀️☠
if it's your sibling it's ok🤭

In middle school, the teachers caught us doing the cinnamon challenge in the bathroom and they just didn't understand it no matter how much we explained it. They wholeheartedly believed we were snorting it for kicks.
i mean, its almost more believable that middle school kids would be snorting cinnamon rather than just putting huge spoonfuls of it in their mouths so i dont really blame them
I mean snorting cinnamon for kicks and holding a spoonful of cinnamon in your mouth for the kicks really are a distinction without a difference
the tide pod challenge happened when i was in residential treatment for an eating disorder, so i had no access to social media or my phone and had no idea what was going on in the world. one day during visiting hours my friend called me and was like "do you know what people are eating right now?" and i was like "here? not much" and then she proceeded to tell me that real live human beings were ingesting soap packs for fun.
When I was 16 & my cousin was 17 she brought home a new boy to Christmas. His party trick was the cinnamon challenge, or so he thought. As soon as he put the cinnamon in his mouth he threw up all over my grandparents living room floor, in front of the entire family.
dude imagine how embarrassed your cousin was 💀💀💀 dude just totally ruining the vibe
Guess that was his one and onlt Christmas there 💀

Exorcisms aren't just a "back in the day" thing for what is actually mental illness. I live in the midwest and personally know two people who's parents blamed what their kid was going through on demons. One was a trans woman and the other had a schizophrenic disorder. When the latter was a teen their parents tried to get an exorcism done on them and the only thing that stopped them was the hospital staff because the friend was in the hospital for an attempted self unaliving. It's very much still a thing unfortunately
Yeah fr it still happens today 😩
@Natalie that’s so fucked up, I’m so sorry
Yep, I come from the Fiji islands and that’s still an issue there. Multiple of my family members have been ‘exorcised’
@Natalie stay strong. No one deserves to be treated like that ❤️

Wait did you guys seriously NOT have a choking “challenge”???? A kid in my middle school DIED because a kids would play chicken basically on who could choke themselves the longest. Our home room teacher legitimately had to have a serious talk with us about how this game is banned and dangerous 😶😶😶
this happened to children my age as well, growing up in the early 2000's. i think it was just called the choking "game" which is fucked up
Can't believe I'm going to admit it, but when I was 9/10 & my cousin was 10/11, we played the "choking game". (She's ok, now) She *passed out* & hit her head on the side of her bed 😭🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ She was ok, but it took her a minute to gain consciousness & in the meantime I thought I killed my cousin 😭 Why are we so dumb as kids?? Thank god she was alright!!
I'm 35 now, btw. So this was around 96/97? I can't math rn 😅
Me and my siblings would have one of us lay on the bed and the other two would put a pillow over their head and sit on it until they almost passed out. We also sat in an old tire and pushed it down the CONCRETE stairs outside our house complex. it was a big flight of stairs too. We're lucky the closest we got to death was when my brother ripped his tongue off a frozen pole and had a burn mark for a few days. It's actually scary how many kids have died/almost died doing stupid stuff without understanding how dangerous it is
Excuse me what
Once Glo's laugh started to sound like a gravely cry for help I couldn't watch anymore. That cinnamon challenge was no joke. And my gag reflex gets going hearing that...rasp? It sounds like the tearing of muscles to me. IDK.
FYI, chemical burns can take years or decades to fully heal. As a young teen I burnt the end of my fingers doing a cleaning job. They did not fully heal until I was 27. So be careful folks! (Note: I got chemical burns from doing house keeping with people who were unqualified to train me)

salt makes water boil slower!!! not faster! it changes the melting and boiling point of ice and water. sarah said that with so much confidence though

I remember when the tidepod thing happened that people were dogging on Gen-Zers being the perpetrators of said challenge. In the end it doesn't matter because both generations are smooth brained. Its kind of beautiful
My whole middle school did the Harlem shake on video and the vice principal was the one who started us off by dancing on top of a lunchroom table and as soon as the beat dropped she face-planted off the table and she made us redo the entire thing 🤣💀

i remember my friends and i thought we had just caused the inevitable destruction of the world as we know it, while playing charlie charlie in elementary school.
we chanted, the pencil moved to yes, the wind picked up, and it immediately started poring.
instead of just coming to the rational conclusion that weather is unpredictable and wind moves pencils, we all agreed we had summoned a demon into our school and this was how our lives were going to be now.
Random fact about the Saltine challenge (kinda): A similar challenge was done in the 1970s with one of the originals casts of the kids show Zoom. The main difference was that the kids had to eat as many crackers as they could, and then whoever could whistle first won. Weird to think how such a choking hazard was seen as an innocent game on a children's show.
Anytime I’m literally sobbing I come to check if an episode has come out.
Instant mood boost.
So happy to hear yall are doing a live show!
