      Important disclaimer about God’s wife: where I live in Canada, there is a very very common sex trafficking scam where if you’re a young girl alone, 2 ladies “working on a college project” will approach you. The project is supposedly to see how much people know about God’s wife, and they will mention the “daughters of Ishtar”. They’ll try to get your phone number so they can meet you at a coffee shop to interview you, which is where the sex trafficking will become a risk. They will always approach you when you’re alone or woth another girl your age, & in public places, like mall food courts. Just wanted to say, to all the young ladies who enjoy this channel, please be on high alert!!!! Sex trafficking is very very common in some cities. You might think they’re a couple of teenage girls just like you, & they might look very young & very straight-laced, but that is intentional. Just a PSA!

    When I was a teenager, i was flying alone and while in an airport I sat on the ground to charge my phone. A family walks over and stands next to me and one of their children fully sat on my leg, I'm sitting criss cross apple sauce. It was hilarious because the kid didn't see a problem sitting on a stranger and the parents didn't even seem aware. I tried to move away from the child and as soon as he was on the floor again his instinct was to back up towards me and hoist himself onto my lap again 😂 no one in that family acknowledged me. I was just a human chair. Also, I can't believe how safe and oblivious some kids can feel out in the world.

    "They're not like flowers will heal the world and cure disease" So to make this whole thing a little brighter, they will. Specifically, sunflowers are known for being one of the few things that can filter out and purify nuclear radiation. As such, they are used in Japan to help make the earth where it would otherwise be unusable for hundreds to thousands of years, be healed, and suitable for habitation in a few generations. I was in a deep dark depression at a young age and two things were my breaking points: The Cosby Show when the little girl asked why are we here if we are going to die( I can't remember if that was the exact quote but she did ask that type of question) and idk why. But Undertale was my other breaking point. ( when your at the genocide boss battle with Sans and he explains that none of this matters, that it's just going to erase and were all going to come back and I'll remember everything while everyone forgets) and I'm having a extential crisis while watching the gameplay and... I love the game. But it felt like it picked me up and threw me down some stairs and I was so numb to the world. Where nothing mattered to me and I was ignored as a teen so Noone really noticed me. But, now. I'm 25. And I've seen things and went to a counselor and worked on myself. And I just feel that I can't think about it so negative and that if it ends up that nothing matters the only thing that will matter to me is that I believe I was a good person in my eyes and in others. And I always try to brighten people's days. May it be a smile, a compliment, listening to them instead of solving their problems, and taking care of myself ( working out and eating healthier). Sorry that was a LONG comment. 😅

    I grew up in Denver and went through DIA countless times, and it always felt weird to me. It makes me so uneasy to hear that other people find it off too and that theres a whole conspiracy theory about it, knowing how many times I've been there and gone through the airport, especially when I'd fly by myself.
    On another note, I dunno if anyone else feels this, but somehow I really *like* believing in things like aliens and cryptids, but I don't think I actually truly believe a lot of it. I almost feel like it's a way for me to stay connected to my childhood or something, to lean into this sort of campy scene of believing in mythical creatures and paranormal encounters and to blame half of the airplanes and comets I see on UFOs lmao

    To this day, my mom refuses to believe my terrifying experience with the Denver Airport. Ten years old and just needing to use the bathroom before meeting up with the rest of our family. Saw the creepy murals but ignore them because at that time, the mural contents looked like things I drew in class. Of course there are signs that direct you to where a bathroom is supposed to be, me and my mom followed it down the hall (imagine in horror movies, where the hallway gets longer), the hallway just abruptly ended and the bathroom was on the side. my mom obviously didn't want to leave me alone so she stood a little down the hall. Go and do my business and come back out. I knew the hallway stopped on the left, but I look to my fucking right and there is another wall that now made an enclosure minus the bathroom behind me. 3 empty walls and the bathroom right behind. I panicked, ran back to the bathroom and into the stall and started screaming. My mom (who recognized my crying) came to the doorway to console me and take me out and when I came back out, lo and behold, the airport reappeared like nothing happened.
    I was not chemically buffered because I obviously wasn't old enough to smoke or drink, and I didn't have any condition that would've caused me to hallucinate a wall that built itself and closed me in like a large prison cell. I feel just as confused thinking about it today as I was back then.

It makes it hard for us to talk sometimes because he’s pretty disgruntled about the changes happening due to Covid and I see them as a necessary thing. I’m just glad he is honest with his work and gets tested and hasn’t already quit (which is good, I think isolation plays a part in these kinds of beliefs and fuels them as they seek out a community that confirms their belief) I hope you and your dad can reconnect, it’s difficult and frustrating but people just want to be accepted and sometimes it blinds them to things like logic and reasoning

I'm of the belief that humans are innately good and that there are unavoidable circumstances within the world (modern society, other people, sheer chance or luck or fate) that make people do/believe/think ""bad"" things, whether they realize it or not. Brittany's argument that religion is the result of innately evil humanity seeking a moral code is convincing - though I think the very fact that people desire to seek moral "goodness" is evidence of innate goodness. Why would we seek to be moral if we were innately evil? What role could that serve in an innately evil being? Why would divine validation of being "good" even matter if evil was part of human nature? Idk. Loved this podcast besties keep up the great work, would love to see more philosophical discussions like this in the future!!

    I have something to add to the Mattress Firm theory: a mattress store (not 'Mattress Firm' but another popular mattress chain in the New England area) had an employee who freelanced for tech repairs. My ex and I bought a mattress set and he casually mentioned that if we ever needed help with any tech devices to give him a call. And I did, several times, bring my laptop to the same mattress storm and he would work on it while the store was slow. I still have him on Facebook and while the store itself has closed he now works as a rep/salesman for (insert popular phone carrier) and he still does his side gig from the store. So the thought that the mattress store employees are pursuing "other business ventures" while on the clock is one hundred percent true.

    I paused 30 minutes in because I have run through an airport trying to make it to my connecting flight that was literal minutes after landing from my first. So here I am running, in slides with socks, full on sprint. I run into the "speed areas" as I like to call them and don't think twice about all that momentum and what it's about to do to me as I actually run off the escalator. Needless to say as soon as my slide hit the actual ground it bent under itself and sent me careening through the airport while I tried heroically to maintain my balance and not fall. As I'm running by everyone I made eye contact with at least five people. If there were ever a definition of unbothered to be seen, it was those people. Somehow I regained my balance and got upright again after looking like a drunken naruto and made it to my connecting flight.
    Two lessons I learned that day were to never wear slides and run again or run on the escalator to maximize my speed. Hitting warp 9 on those things is definitely not worth it.

  • @Cassiterit3
    @Cassiterit3 2 года назад +4

    This is such a good one, wow. My mind is going.
    I don't believe that humans are innately evil, but I do believe that we have embedded survival instinct that causes us to seek control over our situation. For some, that's building a family and passing on their legacy; for some, it's creating art to allow them to understand or at least communicate their feelings. For some, that's hiding from things that hurt them. For some, that's using other humans to create vast wealth for themselves. Sometimes it's selfless and community-based, sometimes it's a detriment or a bonus to mental health, sometimes it can be incredibly selfish--vast amounts of control corrupts.
    As for the "do we actually enjoy horror" question: I think you have to answer, "What is enjoyment?" first. Because you can say that it's just adrenaline, it's just exciting, but if that's what Enjoyment is for that person, then I'd argue that they really do like horror. Fiction in all forms exists for many reasons, and excitation is definitely a huge reason for horror. And some people, of course, don't like those feelings related to whatever they see in movies like that; they just get scared, and that's just how it makes them feel. Neither is incorrect, but to say that no one has a good time watching horror is, I think, coming at it from the wrong angle.

    The thing that makes me believe in Bigfoot is my grandmother telling stories passed down from our Indigenous ancestors about "Hairy Men" that they saw and interacted with. Indigenous people have been talking about a Bigfoot-like creature for generations. Something is fucky!!!!!

    I’m a huge horror movie fan and for me, Sarah is definitely onto something. The adrenaline is controlled - I know there is a beginning but there is also an end to the heightened feelings so I get to have that feeling but I also get a relief. But, for me, I find that the horror films I’m most drawn to are scopes on human behavior. Horror explores humanity in ways other genres don’t and it’s utterly fascinating to me. I’m not into gore, or other stereotypes horror fans are often thrust into. For example, one of my favs is Green Room and it’s a scope on the incompetence that comes when you’re in a life or death situation and the innate human urge to stay alive at all costs. Blue ruin is another I like a lot, by the same director. Just my perspective. People who like horror for vastly different reasons

    Another “why” is called something like event magnitude bias (it’s been a while since school lol). But basically when an event is huge and tragic it’s really hard for people to believe it’s a freak accident or the result of a single evil person or group. We feel the need to assign blame to something bigger.

    once I was talking to a salesperson at a mattress firm and he said and I quote “listen I’ve been at this store for 10 years and in the mattress business for 30 years and I would never sell anyone an over priced or bad mattress” and I had never felt so safe but threatened at the same time

  • @hotsexyangel
    @hotsexyangel 2 года назад +43

    Actually the mattress firm theory was debunked by Kendall Rae. I highly recommend watching her video for a good explanation on all of it, but the synopsis is that a mattress firm went bankrupt and was bought out by another company. So all the old buildings were just turned into mattress firms despite already having other mattress stores in the same area, which explains why there’s so many of them on the same block.

    “The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creatures that cannot.” ― Mark Twain
    I think humans created the idea of right and wrong. But animals can't be 'evil' nor 'good', because they have no sense of morals. That concept doesn't exist to them, they're just living their lives based on what their genes tell them to do. A tiger is not evil because it kills and eats a deer - that's just what it does as that species. But humans are also animals, and we react on genetic instincts without intellectual thought probably most of the time. Our cultures and technological advances make us think we're superior and separate from the natural world but we're not. We are still animals. Our intelligence allowed us to create the idea of good and evil, but that doesn't mean good or evil actually exists. Like religion (which is usually based on what's good and bad) - we made it up.
    So I don't think humans are good OR evil, we just are. And each culture has different ideas of what's good and bad so that shows that it's a human construct. Our cultures have taught us that certain things are wrong and we have whole codes of law to enforce that, but nothing in this world is black and white. Of course there are things that I think humans universally agree are bad - like murdering innocent children .... buuuuut, then you have people who have murdered innocent children based on their own made up beliefs of what's right and wrong (the child is a Jew, the child is gay, etc - they believe that the child being these things means they're not innocent (just to reiterate I am NOT endorsing these views, I'm just saying that people can decide what's right or wrong because it's made up, as opposed to scientific facts that are provable, like that the sun exists and its energy keeps us warm)). The fact that we have the intelligence to create a moral code, I think that does bind us to that, because we're all raised in human societies. So, knowing this code, if you do something "bad", then you can believe it was a mistake or that you are a bad person. But everything is gray because what if someone's mental illness, something genetic/physical that they can't control, makes them do things that objectively hurt other people? I guess that's why you have murder cases where people can claim insanity.
    I think humans can't escape the idea of right vs. wrong, but I think it does way more harm than it should. Like people thinking that they're bad at their core just for existing? That's so unnecessarily damaging. Or if you think you're a bad person because you failed a test, or can't deny yourself the piece of cake, or whatever. So many things in our lives pertain to our physical existence that we can't control, no matter how "smart" we are. Just because we're smarter than other animals on Earth doesn't mean we're the absolute smartest an animal could ever be. Thinking that we're superior to any animal, or any other human for that matter, is a really slippery slope. Because those beliefs about superiority and inferiority are human constructs. And I don't know where I'm going with this but those are my thoughts about the "are humans inherently good or bad" question.

    48:42 is literally the precise explanation for extremist and conspiracy thinking.
    Some people cannot accept the meaninglessness and insignificance of life. We don't have a purpose, there's nothing bigger out there, we are just animals who were gifted/cursed with self-awareness, and when we are gone, that is it. And it's a horrifying, paralyzing thought when you really let it get to you and instead of working towards accepting that or making the best of the shit situation, some people have to create fantasies to give them significance or make them feel like they are the hero of their own movie. The world is not out to get you, there are no greater forces at work, life isn't a movie with heroes and villains. There are just people. Doing stuff until they die.

    Pilot here - Denver International replaced a smaller, older airport called Stapleton Airport. This airport was way too small and wouldn’t meet the need of future passengers, so Denver International was built to meet that capacity. As for the layout of the runways layout, aircraft try to always land/takeoff in the wind for better performance, and the wind can sometimes change directions. Having multiple directions of runways gives them options in the event that winds are favoring a certain direction. As for the tunnels and designs of the airport, can’t really speak to that. I’ve heard sooooo many crazy theories, some that you covered here. 😅
