The amount of furries that tweet “I’m puppy” and then go to work at fucking NASA or the pentagon or are one of the most highly regarded scientists in the world is ASTOUNDING
I love seeing furries with high level jobs I just find it so fun. Like, coming home from my job as a biophysicist to talk to my friends on Twitter as a purple lion with wings like that’s so fun I love that.
12:20 "I think furries seem so outlandish because most of society can't wrap their mind around hobbies" THANK YOU! In our overworked, burnt out society, most adults have forgotten that it's possible to just ENJOY something and doing that in their spare time. "Imagine unironically enjoying ANYTHING"
LITERALLY! It doesn’t really matter what the hobby is even, I’m 28 and people think I’m weird just because I KNIT. I’m not a furry, don’t go to sex dungeons, don’t do drugs or do anything close to it. I just like to knit and do some various crafts, and people lose still can’t wrap their heads around it!
@@peps1943 I’m bi and I have it too, I’m not sure it’s a straight women thing because I know all types of people who have the same issue lol! I think it’s some form of savior/hero complex, the only common denominator I’ve found so far is that those of us who are like this are depressed, sad or broken ourselves so we feel the need to make sure those we love won’t ever feel like we feel. I also know people who, for example, had alcoholic/ab*sive parents and are now stuck in a loop of dating one addict/ab*sive person after the other, desperately trying to change and fix them. I’ve never asked bc I’m not a therapist lol, but I’m assuming they want to try and save others from having the same experiences as they did growing up. And for me personally, I struggle alot with self worth and self hatred so my mind tells me I need to fix people and prioritize everyone elses needs before my own, and if I don’t I’m useless and a waste of oxygen. So basically what I’m saying is Bojack kinda hot 😭😭
@eucas93 not hijacker’s horsemen for me personally but I’m bisexual to and yeah when I meet a guy who’s messed up it gives me joker flashbacks lmao I immediately fall in love bro it’s bad
The greater conversation about adults having hobbies and valuing “play” is something I could talk about for hours. Like I think that’s part of the reason why yoga, Zumba classes ect. are so popular Bc they are some of the only socially acceptable forms of “play” because you can justify these as exercise so they serve a purpose other than just for fun.
I was just telling a friend last night that adults who ignore their inner child(ren) and who deny themselves of stuffed animals or things that would satisfy them or allow them to play/ connect with their inner child, those adults who do that are in such a weird place mentally
The most controversial hot take one of my friends said relating to fursonas: Jesus Christ’s fursona was a lamb 🐑. Needless to say, I spiraled into madness ever since.
I personally love furries bc when i was about 12-13 I paid for lifesaving medical treatment by doing furry art. not even nsfw stuff - just drawing people's fursonas
Literally. Furries look after their artists. I started commissions within the Fandom at 14. Made maybe around 300 in 2 years. Could've made more but I was 14, my highest price was like 20 bucks. Literally day after day I think about returning cuz furries get it. (Alsp the Fandom was legit fun)
Same! I literally listen to ASMR because I have anxiety & I have panic attacks & it really helps to calm me down & it’s so strange to me when people assume that bc there is like some sexual videos?! Like huh?! There is also a gazillion other ASMR videos that are not at all?!
@@benjaminmckittrick8905 did that make you feel good? What specific part of saying something like that to someone with anxiety is it that brings you joy/gets you off/makes you feel powerful or in control? What is your desire for that feeling motivated by? What was so lacking in your childhood or in your current life that you feel the need to attempt to exacerbate the mental illness of a complete stranger online? I think you should explore those things within yourself and re-evaluate your behaviour.
As a furry (Not with a suit), seeing these ladies talking so openly about this subject WITH actual open minds is astounding. I wanted to cry because you don't see furries portrayed in a good light 80% of the time.
I wouldn’t consider myself a furry, but it’s so sad and disgusting how they’re hated and treated. It’s nice to see some representation and conversation not just based in hate and anger :)
As a furry, we don’t look at animals in any kind of sexual ways either. It’s very agreed throughout the fandom that we condemn zoophiles (which is what we call people who view animals in that way). It’s just disgusting to think someone can get attraction from real animals. 🤢 we might like our sonas and characters in that way (ie sexual, provocative, etc) bc we do attach so many human characteristics to these characters that most of the time they’re closer to looking like humanoid monsters than animals (by my own comparison and view). We actively push away these type of people bc animals are animals while furry characters are furry characters. And tbh it’s the main reason why sometimes we feel ashamed of being furries bc we get associated with zoophiles/associated with wanting to fuck in real life animals. No matter how furry I am, I have never looked at my pets (or any animals in general) and thought “oh they’re sexy might wanna-“ 🤢🤢🤮🤮 it disgusts me to even think someone would think of me that way. Like these are defenseless animals who can’t give consent, don’t have a voice to which to speak with, and they don’t have characteristics that would make them seem attractive. If a furry ever says that they have had those thoughts or are trying to do something like that to an actual animal and not a fursona, tell them to seek major therapy bc they’re not a furry but a zoophile. TL:DR Furries =\= Zoophiles. Furries hate zoophiles 🤢🤢🤮🤮👎🏽😡👎🏽
as not-a-furry, I definitely do get the attraction to furry characters. Like I have been attracted to several humanoid characters with furry features, mostly to their humanoid characteristics but still, I can see why the furry parts would enhance the sex appeal of the character
I didn't consider myself a furry for the longest even tho that's all I animate, there's A HUGE difference between the two, but I'm stuck because I draw realistic anthro and when people see that I put extreme human details on my dogs they assume I wanna fuck dogs... No... I just practice human anatomy and think realistic anthro looks prettier than a basic human... Sorry.
I personally really like this take and don’t see it enough in the furry community however my mindset is that furries identify as somewhat animal-like in nature and over sexualizing that part and using words like breeding/mating ect furthers that idea from my perspective. I just think the concept of having/wanting furry corn in the first place is kinda interesting to me personally. I would love to be enlightened on the subject though
this is a valuable perspective, i'm not a furry and the people around me are so quick to demonize furries as weird sexual freaks, and it just doesn't feel right. for me it just seems very innocent and fun in nature, and the only time it seems really weird to me is when it's pushed to be overly sexual. come on people, strangers walking around in fox costumes really isn't the craziest thing going on in the world.
It's worth noting that one of the reasons the negative aspects of the furry fandom (abusers, racists etc) get so much exposure is due to the fandom itself. When someone is revealed to be abusive or harmful the community shouts it from the rooftops in order to ensure they're blacklisted and disavowed from the larger conventions, artists etc. Of course there's also a multitude of other issues, but I can't think of a single other internet subculture that doesn't have those sadly.
Yes. Which is honestly awesome, but it also kinda sucks (coming from a non-furry) I’ve seen plenty of people called out and forced out of the community, but at the same time it gives the rest of the community a bad rep? Just because there are always people who don’t look deeper into the situation to understand that its not a “furry” problem its an all around society problem
It definitely has it's pros and cons. On one hand, a lot of non-furries know who "kero" and "Growly" are and think a bunch of furries are zoophiles as a result. On the other hand, people like that are banned from most if not all furry conventions which keeps those spaces safer.
That bit where Brittany says Hamlet instead of Hamilton and starts singing The Room Where It Happens near the end made me CRY LAUGH thank you so so much for that
Btw, the creator of zootopia IS an actual furry. Also, it's such a safe space for everyone, but just like any community, you have the edgelords and creeps. and, tbf, i freaking helped me get through young adulthood, because the world f*cking sucks and just finding friends all over the world that have the same interests, problems etc... was sooooooo f*cking liberating. It's like finding your tribe! The analogy to drag actually clicks so well.
Literally. It's a huge community. Finding creeps and worse is inevitable. But I had a similar experience. When I was at the worst of my depression and my own family didn't want to seek help for it. They were the only people I had. I left the Fandom but to this day 6 years later I still think about these 20-30 something adults worrying and trying to help me through what was happening. I went to a con when I was 16 and throughout the day people I knew would come and check up on me. Even bringing food so I wasn't going around hungry. I've yet to experience anything that loving or accepting in any other community.
hiii owner of a full fursuit here!!!!! what you said about interchanging parts is very true! some suits have changeable eyes/eyebrows/eyelids and magnetic tongues / ears etc (mine can change expressions depending on where i position the eyelids and also i can change piercings and jewelery on him) and the options dont end there, some suits have so many cool changeable accessories and people are coming up with so many ingenious ways to make them feel more alive. also fursuits arent a for life thing, they do end up getting old so people who do get fursuits tend to get a few in their time in the fandom, or get their old suits refurbished. my suit cost around 5k, but ive seen some get up to 15k+!!
Wanted to clarify as a furry. Most furries don’t have fursuits. A lot don’t have a full suit but they will have partials which is just a head gloves and tails. And with the interchangeable parts some peoples fur suits will have removable eye lids for expression or different tongue lengths
@@violatingcommunityguidelines its expensive and a lot of furries dont even want one, its just a hobby within the fandom. Some furries prefer just making or commissioning art of their characters while some want to cosplay/fursuit aswell just preference.
@@violatingcommunityguidelines and some prefer the partial suits over a full one because of comfort a full suit will get warmer then a partial one and a partial is cheaper then a full one usually.
I love that y'all are talking about furries in a positive, respectful light. I had a housemate who was trans and she felt most comfortable socializing as her fursona while she was in the process of transitioning. Talking to her about her experience and furries, in general, changed my perspective immensely. She also went to hospitals with a charity in a group dressed as their fursonas to hang out with sick kids and it was pretty rad.
"As a gay woman, never do I see a broken man and think 'tell me more'" is SO true!!! The wlw women I know have some of the most healthy relationships with men I've ever seen, romantic or platonic
I met a furry once in real life because he had a super nice suit and was using it on a set for a RUclips movie lol. Someone asked him, “do you have s*x in the suit?” And he said “this suit cost me thousands of dollars, do you THINK I have s** in the suit???”
Started opening up art commissions to furries and let me just say, they have so far been the nicest, best clients i've worked with. No arguments over prices, just genuine excitement and praise towards the art that I make them. I set clear boundaries about what i would and would not draw and they have been so respectful, not even questioning it.
We were talking about the value of play in my Play Therapy class (I’m getting my masters in mental health counseling) and we basically talked about how our society doesn’t value “play” which is basically anything that just brings you joy and isn’t part of your normal day to day and thus we produce members of society that are deemed as “weird” or “abnormal” like Disney adults, Harry Potter adults, furries, etc… and we produce ignorant judgmental people labeling others as weird. As a (western) society we value consistently adult things (working, being able to provide for ourselves, etc..) and never take the time out to play or do things deemed as childish and when we do we’re seen as weird or that it’s a fetish of some sort. Overall society sucks. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
Brittany is too proud about reading fanfiction to pretend she hasn't come across Omegaverse content, I KNOW that she knows so much more about knotting than she is letting on...
As someone that did commission art for furries (non sexual) when I was younger, the furry community is so incredibly nice to their artists. Some of the best paying and grateful people I have ever met. While there is a VERY small percentage of them that are just creeps, you don't come across them, and the community usually welcomes anyone willing to learn.
Being touch-averse, I wasn't able to cuddle someone until I was chilling in a fursuit with someone. There is a lot of nonsexual intimacy that goes on in furry that you can't really experience anywhere else. Cuddling another guy in a carpet is a lot of fun beneath the stars, and it's such a natural thing that doesn't need to lead to anything.
I appreciate Brittany sharing her Male Blue Fox veteran, who's also an ex-pat. "I was in the 4chan conflict of '04, and served 2 tours in the /b subreddit. Seen some stuff."
Would love to add that its pretty much the norm for every Furry convention to sponsor a charity. Most cons will raise thousands for smaller and local animal charities but it rarely gets discussed outside our circles. Was really hoping to see you guys touch on the fandom after your coments in other vids, this was great you did really well and avoided the treatment we are used to. Also, yes sarah repping us domestic cat furs! ;D
“Mascot for yourself” is the most perfect way to describe what a fursona is 😂💕 also I have a full suit and wearing it is nothing short of having your whole body engulfed by a carpet
Sarah I love how open you are about having ADHD. It’s so validating to see someone being their authentic successful self despite the quirks and frustrations of this disorder 😊
The Millie thing didn't come from nothing but it's dumb as hell. Basically, someone asked her to make a ship name for Dustin and Mike from Stranger Things and she said the d-slur on accident. Somehow, that turned into her running over gay people with her car
Im glad you guys are respectful about this topic. Let's not forget that a large majority of furries are queer people, trans/gnc people, and neurodivergent people. And often minors as well
I watched this last night then went to bed, and had the most unhinged dream. I was with the two of you on a raft in the middle of this beautiful, placid lake, and then Sarah started singing a song about how her pet rock died but it was to the tune of "Hark the herald angels sing, glory to the newborn king." Anywayyyy just wanted to share that with you all. Love the pod!
I could totally see a Furry Superstar show being based around folks creating fursuits, much like those fashion-making/baking shows :) "Make a fursuit head in 12 hours"
As much as I would love to watch that, I am genuinely worried about what a show would do to the Fandom for so many reasons. Like, I think it would be cool to see a Dragula approach to it, if anything, but I'm worried about the drama a show would create & it would bring more capitalist yuck into the Fandom. I also think that it would make it even harder on the smaller name or more niche artists who need to pay their bills.
I knew people who used their fursonas to explore their gender identity and I always thought that was beautiful. If you are a furry and are reading this, I am a furry ally!!
Had to have this recommended to me 5 times by youtube over the week to finally have the courage to click on it. First seconds in and I hear the word "wholesome". Thank you for making furries feel safe.
The milly bobby brown thing was started cause in an interview she tried to make a combination name of Dustin & Mike, and I think u can guess from there
This was amazing! I loved how you represented our community and everything you said about it. There is always so much bad press about furries so it is great to see it spoken about in good light and with a lot of good research behind it. I've been a furry for 13 years now, ever since I was a tail wearing freshman in high school, to now having two fursuits and way too much art, and I can say for sure that the stigma on furries is getting better than the way it used to be. Which is sad, because for a lot of us, it is just a way to escape or express ourselves. Most of the fandom is great and very accepting and I love it. We definitely have a weird side and a sexual side, but it's not what the fandom is about as a whole. And I just have to say, listening to you both discuss yiffing and knotting was hilarious. Also, having a cat fursuit, and owning cats, I can confirm that most of my cats are scared of it and go running when I wear it lol. But you two are awesome to watch. I will for sure be watching more of you, and I can't wait to see what else you talk about!
Someone showed up to renfaire in a full furry dragon suit on a relatively warm day. They were full suited all day. I dont think ive ever had more respect for someone’s dedication
In the fanfiction episode you HAVE to talk about the My Immortal Fanfic. Honestly a whole episode dedicated to the lore behind that (the mystery behind the writer(s) etc) would slap And I'd love to see an episode on the world of Sonic Original Characters (OCs) lmao
as a Sonic fan I’d *love* that! Seeing how their approach was in this episode, I’m curious how they would look into fan projects that involve people who’ve work[ed] in the franchise!

Thank you for doing this episode! As a group that focused heavily on destigmatizing furries and the furry community, we sincerely appreciate you taking an unbiased approach towards our community.
in terms of gender density in the fandom, there are a lot of straight/bi leaning men. unfortunately, when someone femme-presenting shows up, they get mobbed by desperate guys, which can really scare someone cis-fem or nb out of the fandom (especially if they're also on the ace/aro spectrum).
I've been a furry since... geez... well I learned of the fandom's existence at age 12 but I've been doing furry things since I could express myself at all as a little tiny human. I'm 26 now and I never see this part of myself going away, it just is what I am. It stemmed from my deep deep love of all living things (I've just always been obsessed with animals of all kinds), and my interest in art and story telling and the need for LGBT community. The fandom itself is just a hobby and a community but the interests that made me label myself "furry" are so ingrained in me that I'm always really scared of that outside judgement aimed at furries. Especially since... the vast majority of anti-furry sentiment is based in anti-LGBT sentiment as it is a community where the vast majority of the members are LGBT. I just want to thank y'all for talking about furries with so much understanding and respect and light hearted humor! I was scared to watch this, but I found myself smiling through the whole thing! I found the military bit extra funny because y'all don't even know how many military furs there are! I have no idea why! Maybe the escapism is really appealing as a way to unwind from such a high stress job. You get a full fursuit made by fursuit makers in the fandom, they usually have their own websites but I've found hundreds through their social media pages on twitter and instagram and fursuits can come with a lot of swappable parts, usually magnettic! Different eyebrows or lids for different expressions, removable horns or wings, different tongue lengths for if you wanna :P or not. sorry i wrote you a novel
this podcast has QUICKLY become one of my absolute favorites. you guys are so funny and goofy that i could listen for hours. ps i also got toucan on that quiz and based in the comments so did every single other person who took it so don’t feel bad, buzzfeed just sucked absolute ass once again
There's a tiktoker who is actually studying the subcultures in the furry community and how closely it reflects "normal culture" and groups of people. The furry community is literally as vast as every other community. Good people and bad people!! It's really interesting and fascinating!!
I appreciate what y'all covered in the vid, the furry community has so many facets most people don't know about due to it being drowned out by the novelty of its po/rn. it's a major safe space for neurodivergent/queer people and it's crazy how diverse of a subculture it has become! Im a professional freelance furry artist that has been fascinated with the creative side of the community since 2013! Idk if y'all are ever gonna do followup vids of certain topics but if you ever want answers to the specific questions you asked in this vid, I'd love to answer. And if y'all wanna know more about the fine art/ entertainment side of furries, how in depth creating fursonas can get, fursuit tailoring or how it's all evolved over the years, hmu and I'd love to share resources!!
I feel like the sexual aspect is overly represented but it’s still very present, and people in general have an instinctively visceral reaction to seeing anything remotely related to animals as sexual. Thesis, surveys and research point to varying but usually high percentages of the fandom stating that they have minor to significant sexual interest in furry activities. This doesn’t mean that the bullying targeted towards furries is justified by any means (just let people do their thing for fucks sake), but it definitely makes it a bit weird for people on the outside of it like myself.
I agree with this. There’s definitely sexual undertones to it mixed with like…almost childlike behavior. Like I dressed up as a dog when I was 5. So like you, as an outsider, it makes me extremely queasy when I see it. I mean most of the art I’ve seen of peoples furry characters, are extremely sexual.
@@stephanieg7229 I’ve always been conflicted by this, I had tumblr and would often get linked to deviantart, I’ve seen way too many cartoon dogs fucking without looking for it , for it to not be Atleast a substantial part of the community.
idk, as an outsider i think its weird to throw sex stuff involving animals and sex stuff involving adult humans dressed in unrealistic animal costumes under the same umbrella. They’re simply not even in he same category. One is a serious paraphilia/sexual abuse and the other is a harmless kink. And one does not logically lead to the other.
I’m glad this comment exists because I feel 1000% the same way. They exist amongst us wether we like it or not like a million other things people decide to be mad about BUT, it doesn’t prevent me from being just a tad bit uncomfortable when it’s brought to my attention again in whatever times in my life.
@@billivee deviantart definitely contributed to how a lot of people see the community as a haven for bestiality lol, i wish i could unsee some stuff I’ve seen there before
Speaking as a furry, I NEVER hear outsiders talk about the intricacies of furry economy and the vast market we have as a community for artists and buyers of art. It's genuinely the most fascinating part.
I live in Pittsburgh PA. Every year We hold the biggest convention of furries in the country. Anthrocon. We love it! They come to Pittsburgh every year because we are one of the only cities in the country that openly except them. We love it. It’s awesome.❤️
Love your comment! It reminded me of college - I used to work at a hotel that hosted all sorts of events. I worked concierge/front desk through weekends.. we had a recurring/annual convention centered around spanking that was hosted in our convention hall. Honestly, everyone was so nice and polite in the common areas of the hotel. We saw some crazy costumes come through for sure but no issues, no fights, no damage, no drama. Just adults having fun. Totally support it! Another time the hotel was booked by a church - they sent all the teenagers & college kids - many fights, noise complaints from neighboring hotels, damage to rooms, fire alarms set off for no reason - did not expect that from the church crowd!!
I cosplay so in a way I can relate to the furry community. I started cosplaying 6-7 years ago, but it has become a trend in recent years and it doesn't get the hate it used to, whilst acceptance and respect towards furries has not come very far in the same timespan. I used to make fun of furries as well, around the same time it was big in meme culture like you guys mentioned. In recent years I've realized that there actually wasn't really anything funny about furry hate lol. People in the furry community are so genuinely talented at what they do. The complexity in crafting the suits, designing them. That is so hard to do. The financial dedication, the amount of time and effort some of them put into creating backstories and such for their fursonas. They're just incredibly creative and talented. And so kind. Every furry I've run into at a convention are so so so excited to interact with people and make others happy. They're a lovely community. That being said I think you guys should do an episode on cosplayers as well. I love watching outside perspectives of my hobby lol
Being a furry is so much fun and the community can be incredibly welcoming, and I do think the vocal minorities can take center stage in an outsider’s view. I go to conventions, draw art, make friends- people who are zoos or simply bring sexual content into everyday interactions are adamantly shunned, at least from personal experience.
The one thing that would've made this better is a clear distinction between furries and z**ph*l*s, but other than that, this was pretty productive overall! Personally, I think the distinction is pretty obvious, but a lot of other outsiders don't understand that. I'm also uncomfortable with anything remotely sexual in relation to any sort of animalistic depiction, fictional or not, which is something that could be stressed. I like the idea of entirely non-sexual fursona designs! I grew up with cats and have autism so I've always thought I'd love to be a cat lol
To addon I would say that 90% of furries just love animated characters and/or animals and just think it would be cool to be a character in a world of animal looking people. Yeah theres sexual stuff but unless you wanted to look into that stuff you could be a furry without anything remotely sexual popping up; almost every groupchat will not allow that stuff. Also as a side note the sexual stuff with animal depictions I kind of rationalize as being attracted to humans with a plus; no one in the furry community is attracted to animals (or if they are they are immediately banned from conventions/blocked by everyone else), they are attracted to the human qualities and think its neat to have fun extra qualities.
@@theslavegamer ngl tho I just can't see how being attracted to anthropormorphic animals isn't at least bit zoophelic.... like when they have all fur and snouts and shit.... that's super gross to me as a non-furry why someone would be into that sexually. in the same way i find "1000 yr old lolis" in anime pedophelic you know?
@@jinkieez I think a great example is like cat ears. OH and in anime they have those fox girls and cat girls and stuff right? You wouldn't think of that as zoophillic. Idk I guess it's hard to describe but trust me I thought the same thing as you did when I first heard about furries but I get it now.
I think that’s the case in almost any fandom. If you like any band, movie, celeb or tv show there will be smut and fanfics whether you’d like there to be or not. For example I like metal music, and if I wanted to I could probably find smut or sexy fanart about my favorite death metal band lmao
@@theslavegamer I understand your point, but at the same time, I don't find cat ears sexually attractive; they're aesthetically appealing on human characters, strictly because I'd like to be a cat. I don't find cat ears sexually attractive, nor would they personally enhance a characters sexual appeal. I may just feel more related to a cat-like person. Personally, seeing the physical head of an animal, especially a domestic companion on a human body, would frighten me, and I truly can't fathom how people can say that's attractive...
“I’m a white wolf” “Ohhhhh sorry, we can’t hire you… we’re all prey fursonas here and that’s just not the right energy… our CEO is actually a sheep furry…”

OMG SARAH WAS RUNNING DENNY'S SOCIALS???? Their socials were the only reason I worked there and I hated it LMAOOOOO I got fired after 1 month thank u sarah Update: I have to add... I mentioned in my application that I followed them on socials. In my interview, the manager (a serious old man) asked me WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT THE COMPANY THROUGH FOLLOWING THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA LOL. I was like ".....uhhhh wait have you seen the socials...." and he said no (ofc) hahahaha but I somehow came up with an answer. I said they put Denny's on a pedestal through humor. But the fact that I had to professionally talk about Sarah's shitposts is so 😭😭😭 lmao
I went to an arts college where I got to meet many people who had colored hair, tattoos and piercings, members of the LGBT+ community, people who liked to draw their fursonas, cosplayers, all kinds of people who were just being themselves and expressing their interests and it was so cool to see. It's also cool that your discussion here explains the misconceptions about the subculture, I'm sure that can be helpful for people who have the wrong idea.
When they got to the part about it being a form of Escapism, it made me realize how much having a fursona reflected issues I faced as a kid. Though I was teased, it never got to me, yet I still wanted to be someone else because I found my true self uncharismatic and awkward, so I wanted to be a cartoon character, and being a tomboy, my old fursona (the predecessor to Silver, who you see in my icon) was a male blue and cyan wolf, and once shared a name with the fursona of an animator I used to watch But in recent years, especially after finally making friends in middle and high school, I've been noticing that I have my own aura as a tangible human being, and I saw myself not drawing my fursonas as much anymore (kind of a shame because I've had a comic barely in the works of my fursona and the universe she lived in). Another reason I haven't been frequent in drawing my fursona is that I've been doing more fanart than personal art, and that... well... furries are no longer a niche, deep-internet thing, now everyone in the world has a stark opinion on them, most notably "cringe" because those embarrassing photos and drawings of problematic furries with bizarre fetishes and racist/homophobic/Nazi stuff became louder than normal cute furry art. Lastly, I think I don't identify as a furry as much as I used to because I face a bit of internalized anti-furry-ism(?), like I don't wanna be associated with those aforementioned toxic furries who say homophobic things around me or ask me to do fetish art In short, my reasons for being a furry was a personal sense of identity and not so much being in a fandom, hardly ever called myself a furry because I didn't want that attention ...oh my god I have a future episode idea: Bizarre fetishes on art websites/fanfictions, like inflation, vore, feet, being stuck in mud (I was asked to draw that once I don't know either) etc. I would love to hear an openminded breakdown on why people do it
I have to admit, I used to be a furry hater.. bcuz I thought it was beastiality. Now that I'm educated on what the furry community is, I absolutely LOVE fur suits. I think that are so AWESOME. Gorgeous pieces of art and just.. I can't, they are so rad!! My apologies to the furry community for being ignorant when I was younger. I'm a furry ally now, I support you guys/gals!
You guys brought up e621 and I damn near ruptured something laughing so hard because as a furry, I thought only our community knew about it, I keep forgetting that it’s a mainstream website and hearing about it from you guys is quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve heard in so long🤣🤣🤣🤣
The furry community is definitely wide enough to be widely hated. Ive heard stories of people ridiculed at their workplace for being furries, lots of people hate furries for reasons they hate gay people, neurodivergent people etc. Just cause they're "different". Im happy with how respectfully you guys handled this topic, its unusual to see furries not ridiculed everytime theyre mentioned.
@@idk-jy6cc I think it's more about people like you claiming all furries are zoophiles that give the entire community bad rep, which in turn allows bigots to disguise their bigotry as "They fuck animals its weird its not cause theyre gay!!"
Thank you ! I'ts refreshing to find someone who is not necessarely talking only from the porn and did their research on the topic. This was a fun listen, thumbs up ! To people who are not understanding this : This is a form of escaping every day work and ALL the bullshit that comes with adultery for a lot of people, but for me for example...I'ts just fun. Consider it as a lifestyle, as a hobby. I started with anime cosplays and seen the fursuits afterwards. I fall in love with the fursuits and art side of the Furry fandom. Now I'm here, after 10 years as a Furry artist. I'ts fucking crazy, but I never been happier and more comfortable with all my life.

I just want to say, **"chore eating"** is REAL!! (in ADHD, but also other mental issues) You could literally not eat all fucking day, then when you go "oh hey. Haven't eaten, what should I make?" And food just sounds DISGUSTING. I get it. It's my daily struggle. I'm lucky to eat once a day if my ADHD allows it. I'm so turned off by food and it makes me sad bc there's so much good food out there and my body always says "lol nah, drink water instead." Boi I'm so full of water, gtfo. But what's worse is that I'm not even skinny from not eating. I put on weight in other ways. Bleh. Anyways, take care of your body. Set timers for brekkie, lunch, and dinner. Even if you don't eat at those times, you realize when you're missing meals. Good luck everyone. You're beautiful, but you have to treat yourself right no matter what. I love you. :) ❤
learning about how adhd affects eating has been a big revelation in recovering from my ed!! its so important to talk about how “easy” things arent always easy.
Brittany was trying so earnestly to use the terms correctly and not offend anyone in the furry community, but ended up offending everyone in the Hamilton fandom by referring to it as “Hamlet”. I knew what she meant but it made me laugh so much😂
I know im real late on this but I wanted to add some context to some of the stuff yall talked about just in case anyone is interested (btw yall are awesome, this was a great podcast, yall are super openminded!) FurScience was actually started by a psychological researcher who was also a furry and over the years gathered a team of researchers from different social science disciplines to gather more and more data. They gather most of their data by going in person to furry conventions and handing out surveys for attendees to fill out. The biggest criticism of furscience from the furry community (this is really our only critique of them overall we love them) is that they shy away from researching the sexual side of the fandom. Many furries (myself included) feel that the sexual side is often underplayed by other furries for fear of shame and ridicule. I think the easiest way to explain it is in the same way bathhouses, Eagle bars and kink clubs are staples of queer history and queer culture so to is NSFW art and murrsuiting (having sex in a fursuit) to furries, not everyone is into it but a lot of people are and sex with other consenting adults is nothing to be ashamed of. Furry is also very VERY queer, around 80% of people who identify as furry are some kind of Queer, furry also has the highest % of trans people when compared to ANY other sub-culture. Furry at its core is just a fun, loving, accepting space for anyone who doesn't exactly 'fit into the mold'. I actually did an interview with one of the researchers from Furscience years ago and there is one story she told that has stuck with me forever: She was outside in the registration line for Anthrocon (the second largest furry con in the world) handing out surveys to people in the line and she came up to a group of 5 trans women and when she offered them a survey they said "Oh no sorry we aren't actually furries so this survey probably wouldn't apply to us" Confused she asked "Oh! well do you mind if I ask what you are doing in line for a furry convention?" and they said "We aren't furries but we are all trans women and these people are all so cool, loving and accepting we come to this convention every year just to be around them and be ourselves. I think that story really exemplifies perfectly why we love being furries.
As a furry, you should have a female furry interviewed on your podcast! They can give a lot of insight on how it feels and there own perspective and experience.

@@_.juicebox._1189 Lmao you beat me to it. But yeah - Brittany has stated that her fursona is a blue fox (white tail) that has an extensive military career. 😂😂
It is always so interesting to me when people talk about the furry fandom from the outside, cause with how people think things could be from the outside and how things tend to be on the inside are usually drastically different, yet not really that wrong at the same time. For example: Most furries don't really have suits, for a variety of reasons: cost, being able to withstand the heat while wearing it, and not getting claustrophobic. Though plenty of people think that all/most furries have suits since it is what catches peoples attention more than the person just wearing a t-shirt and jeans. Being in the fandom for 5 years and living with other furries for 2 years puts me in a position where I am pretty deeply associated in the fandom. But to me it is always interesting to hear people on the outside talk to each other about it or talk to someone in the fandom about it. All in all, this was a great podcast to listen to and you two seem to play off each other pretty well and I am excited to see more in the future.

The greater conversation about adults having hobbies and valuing “play” is something I could talk about for hours. As a furry, we don’t look at animals in any kind of sexual ways either.
It’s very agreed throughout the fandom that we condemn zoophiles (which is what we call people who view animals in that way). It’s just disgusting to think someone can get attraction from real animals. 🤢
we might like our sonas and characters in that way (ie sexual, provocative, etc) bc we do attach so many human characteristics to these characters that most of the time they’re closer to looking like humanoid monsters than animals (by my own comparison and view).
@@LostLifetimes precisely, it's not like that, but people draw that similarity anyway and by god that is frustrating as all fuck.
this is a valuable perspective, i'm not a furry and the people around me are so quick to demonize furries as weird sexual freaks, and it just doesn't feel right. for me it just seems very innocent and fun in nature, and the only time it seems really weird to me is when it's pushed to be overly sexual. come on people, strangers walking around in fox costumes really isn't the craziest thing going on in the world.
“I walk in to alegerba; so it’s a sex thing?” Had me dying 😂
On the other hand, people like that are banned from most if not all furry conventions which keeps those spaces safer.

hiii owner of a full fursuit here!!!!! what you said about interchanging parts is very true! some suits have changeable eyes/eyebrows/eyelids and magnetic tongues / ears etc (mine can change expressions depending on where i position the eyelids and also i can change piercings and jewelery on him) and the options dont end there, some suits have so many cool changeable accessories and people are coming up with so many ingenious ways to make them feel more alive. also fursuits arent a for life thing, they do end up getting old so people who do get fursuits tend to get a few in their time in the fandom, or get their old suits refurbished. my suit cost around 5k, but ive seen some get up to 15k+!!
Wanted to clarify as a furry. Most furries don’t have fursuits. A lot don’t have a full suit but they will have partials which is just a head gloves and tails. And with the interchangeable parts some peoples fur suits will have removable eye lids for expression or different tongue lengths
Interesting! If you don't mind me asking, is there a reason for that? Like the cost is too high or owning a full suit not being practical?

While there is a VERY small percentage of them that are just creeps, you don't come across them, and the community usually welcomes anyone willing to learn.
Being touch-averse, I wasn't able to cuddle someone until I was chilling in a fursuit with someone. As much as I would love to watch that, I am genuinely worried about what a show would do to the Fandom for so many reasons. We definitely have a weird side and a sexual side, but it's not what the fandom is about as a whole.

as a Sonic fan I’d *love* that! Seeing how their approach was in this episode, I’m curious how they would look into fan projects that involve people who’ve work[ed] in the franchise!
They’d fall into the Sonichu story 💀
@@KingOfGaymes ooooooh shit you’re right ☠️ the Chris Chan topic **alone** would have to be its own episode
I had a feeling that was the case :[
Was hoping for Brittany and Sarah to ponder on it when they read that statistic.
"Cedric Diggory was a furry" - Sarah
well, that's canon now
he seems like the type
as cannon as anything else jk.re-writing has ever said

@@Captain04801 I love your comment! ❤️❤️
@@Captain04801 that’s horrible you had to deal with that. I’m so sorry
I go to conventions, draw art, make friends- people who are zoos or simply bring sexual content into everyday interactions are adamantly shunned, at least from personal experience.
i love that sarah has the laneige lip mask ready, on deck, for potential emergencies
Furry dance competitions are the furry equivalent to Drag shows
this pod is such a good idea yall really put all your furrussy in this episode
“I’m a white wolf”
“Ohhhhh sorry, we can’t hire you… we’re all prey fursonas here and that’s just not the right energy… our CEO is actually a sheep furry…”

Literally thank you so much for also talking about ASMR in that bit at the beginning like it’s so weird how much a lot of people just don’t like it and can’t understand it
Also drag name FOXXXY ANDREWS HELLO???? Fursona drag name
OMG SARAH WAS RUNNING DENNY'S SOCIALS???? Their socials were the only reason I worked there and I hated it LMAOOOOO I got fired after 1 month thank u sarah
Update: I have to add...
As the days pass, I fall more and more in love with Sarah 🥺
I went to an arts college where I got to meet many people who had colored hair, tattoos and piercings, members of the LGBT+ community, people who liked to draw their fursonas, cosplayers, all kinds of people who were just being themselves and expressing their interests and it was so cool to see. It's also cool that your discussion here explains the misconceptions about the subculture, I'm sure that can be helpful for people who have the wrong idea.
When they got to the part about it being a form of Escapism, it made me realize how much having a fursona reflected issues I faced as a kid. Though I was teased, it never got to me, yet I still wanted to be someone else because I found my true self uncharismatic and awkward, so I wanted to be a cartoon character, and being a tomboy, my old fursona (the predecessor to Silver, who you see in my icon) was a male blue and cyan wolf, and once shared a name with the fursona of an animator I used to watch
But in recent years, especially after finally making friends in middle and high school, I've been noticing that I have my own aura as a tangible human being, and I saw myself not drawing my fursonas as much anymore (kind of a shame because I've had a comic barely in the works of my fursona and the universe she lived in). Lastly, I think I don't identify as a furry as much as I used to because I face a bit of internalized anti-furry-ism(?), like I don't wanna be associated with those aforementioned toxic furries who say homophobic things around me or ask me to do fetish art
In short, my reasons for being a furry was a personal sense of identity and not so much being in a fandom, hardly ever called myself a furry because I didn't want that attention
...oh my god I have a future episode idea: Bizarre fetishes on art websites/fanfictions, like inflation, vore, feet, being stuck in mud (I was asked to draw that once I don't know either) etc.
Same but I went a step further and now I'm a fursuiter lol
@@rawrlilbutterfly2265 hell yeah, that's great!

I think its more about the beastiality 🤣
@@idk-jy6cc I think it's more about people like you claiming all furries are zoophiles that give the entire community bad rep, which in turn allows bigots to disguise their bigotry as "They fuck animals its weird its not cause theyre gay!!"
@@nblank I was joking 🙄
As someone who is a furry, this conversation is SO well done. Y’all really hit the nail on the head w this and did your research
Also ya e621 has some WEIRD ass porn on it (but a ton of rly well made stuff too)
I just want to say, **"chore eating"** is REAL!! (in ADHD, but also other mental issues)
You could literally not eat all fucking day, then when you go "oh hey.
I love you. :) ❤
I just want to photosynthesize
learning about how adhd affects eating has been a big revelation in recovering from my ed!! its so important to talk about how “easy” things arent always easy.
Brittany was trying so earnestly to use the terms correctly and not offend anyone in the furry community, but ended up offending everyone in the Hamilton fandom by referring to it as “Hamlet”. I knew what she meant but it made me laugh so much😂
wow what a break of fresh air and positivity
Only watched one episode and I already absolutely love you two
time to binge the rest of the episodes
Only Britney can make furries feel less weird with her foot skin collection story 😭😭😂😂
I know im real late on this but I wanted to add some context to some of the stuff yall talked about just in case anyone is interested (btw yall are awesome, this was a great podcast, yall are super openminded!)
FurScience was actually started by a psychological researcher who was also a furry and over the years gathered a team of researchers from different social science disciplines to gather more and more data.
