My animation of Syd Barrett's last song recorded with Pink Floyd, the last song on their second album, Saucerful of Secrets...a psychedelic psychological trippy trip
The part when the rest of Pink Floyd leave the room is sad. Syd could have continued with them if they had let him recover first. But then Pink Floyd became too big even for them to manage, so perhaps it was for the best.
I agree, perhaps he was never really temperamentally inclined to do the whole successful rock star thing... I think he really mainly only cared about art, whether in music or painting, exploring all the highways and byways of his mind's and the mediums' possibilities...sharing it with those who were genuinely interested and appreciative. But... not dealing with persistent fans and constant touring with often aggressive audiences and regimented recording schedules with their artistic restrictions and interference, amongst the many unexpected expectations that came with commercial success. He just wanted to be an artist... ...which is what he continued to be, quietly, eventually, after dropping out of the the band and the whole commercial music business. Maybe he was just never cut out for that other stuff, acid or no acid... mental illness, neural atypicality, brain damage, truncated pharmaceutically-obtained enlightenment, or whatever...
They tried - they really did. They even considered keeping Syd as a non-musician to insure more control in public appearances, but the poor guy was already too far gone. So sad. Shine on you, crazy Diamond.

Well, "Blues" means like Rhythm and Blues, a genre of music. In this song, Syd is writing a sad song about himself, like a "blues song..."Jugband" is a reference to a kind of music, a group of jazz, blues, or folk musicians using simple or improvised instruments such as jugs and washboards. In this case, a song with simple music that could be played with simple instruments. For Syd, "Jugband Blues" is a play on words. Syd loved playing with words that had many different meanings.
