All you have to do is grind 1/16th of an inch between a tooth in the first gear ring and you can fit the security bit perfectly to take those 6 screws out.
Doooode, it's a couple years too late but medium size needle nose pliers work to snag the internal slots, then use a crescent wrench to rotate the pliers. You would probably need to pre-soak the freewheel nut first with liquid wrench and let it sit for a day. It worked for me.
The freewheel cassette and the black top part, that takes to t-20 bit for the screws comes off. It slides over all the wires. Then you can use fr 1.3 tool to take the cassette off. I used a big socket and a torque drill
cahokia33 I bought two different fr 1.3 tools and neither would fit over the wires and axle nut. I even tried taking it to my local ebike shop and theirs wouldn’t fit either. Do you have a link to the one you got that worked?
@@SuPRCooPR Well, that may actually be right. Your new 35 amp ECU is rated for much higher amps, so it's probably programmed to use them more than my Juiced ECU, which is only 20 amps.
@@SuPRCooPR Do you know what's different about one of these for a 20" wheel then a 26? , is it in the planatery gears or do they just have a slower top speed due to the wheel size?..... and if you put a motor for 20" in a 26" wheel would that be a way to up the top speed? that 20 fat bike 750 they are upgrading the 500's with look just like my standard 500watt 26"
Hi, thanks for documenting the modification you did. Just a question, I just changed my controler to a more powerful KT controller. I saw you changed to a KT Display, did you had any plugging issues? Or incompatible parts issues?
robert franks they are 26x2.5 and I bought them from Amazon, here’s a link Maxxis Hookworm BMX/Urban Bike Tire www.amazon.com/dp/B000A8NQQC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rEvrFbEEAP2X2
I haven't gone through any, but my battery has shown some degradation. I just recently did a balance charge that did help extend each charge a bit. I ride quite a bit also, my original battery has over 2k miles now and is still going.
j veen i just converted mine. Small damage to the wire beside the buttons switch for the display. Still works 100% fine with a little electric tape. You can buy mine
Did you consider cutting a slot in the free wheel removal tool like a car oxygen sensor socket? It might take a few cutting wheels on a Dremel through the thick part.
turkeyssr turkeyssr I am still considering it, I just don’t have tools to make the cut. The freewheel tool is hardened steel and would be tough to cut, might try and get a machine shop to do it. Also Bolton Ebikes is working on making one to sell, so hopefully we see that soon.
Efgsf415 I live in an area with a lot of hills and usually run it on PAS 4 and can get around 18 miles before I have to drop to a lower PAS. I haven’t pushed it much further than that.
@@SuPRCooPR thanks again I just went on my maiden voyage yesterday and got 22 miles before the battery died not too many Hills. I think I need to adjust my settings to get a little bit better range
Efgsf415 range can vary so much depending on the situation. 22 miles is the furthest I’ve gotten but that was on pretty flat ground with the stock controller. If I kept the watts below 500 I could probably get 25+, might try it someday but 20 is plenty for me.
@@SuPRCooPR keep up the good work on your videos. Can't wait till you up grade your battery. I'm looking for a new battery my self. Have any suggestions?
Efgsf415 electro bike world should be your first stop, then you could check Bolton and Rad but they’re usually out of stock. I’ve seen some people find batteries on eBay and Allibaba but you’ll need to get an adapter, Bolton sells one but again it never seems to be in stock.
D-Units the 1st one I ordered from Amazon, they sent the wrong one, then I ordered one from eBay, it was the right one but it’s too big, won’t fit between the frame and the fender. I’ve ridden in the rain a few times now without any issues, I don’t think the case is needed.
MrInnovativeMusic I plan to use the motor for another project and didn’t want to risk permanent damage. I did discuss that option with the bike shop but when he said the new freewheel was only $16 and I knew I’d need to get another for the other project anyway, it was my best option.
Is there any possible way at some point you could take some accurate measurements of the nylon planetary gears, like tooth count, diameter, thickness and axle diameter, as well as the c to c distance axle to axles on the jockey they sit on? I want to get alloy gears with ceramic bearings made and eventually sell them but my Bafang is still on warranty for another year, so I can't take it apart yet. Kyle at Bolton says he's never seen the nylon gears wear out, but people are upgading these motors to use their full power, so I am pretty sure they'll be a need for tougher planetarys soon (just like in the R/C car and truck world). It would be an inexpensive upgrade. Anything you can do will help.
I still have the stock motor disassembled so I could measure that one. My calipers are pretty cheap and not very accurate but I'll get you some info when I can get some time.
@@SuPRCooPR That would be awesome! If you can get me the model of the 500 watt Bafang before you measure, I can make sure they are the same 5:1 gears that are in your new Bafang.
Awesome! Timely post, I just got my new Bafang True 750w motor as well. So installing the gear onto the motor was straight forward? Did you need any special tools to do so? Congrats, glad to hear your loving it, hope to be there with you soon. :) Thanks for sharing.
You just need the security bit T20 for the screws around the casing, should be easy to find at any hardware store. Then you have to angle the bit behind the stock freewheel to get the screws out but it wasn't difficult. I wasn't able to get my stock freewheel off so I just purchased a new one. The stock gearing is 11t to 34t and the only replacement I could find locally was 14t to 34t, it works but if you can get the stock one off or find a replacement that matches you'd be better off.
I have not had a good experience with Bolton bikes to be honest with you I ordered the same kit the display and the controller to me it looked like the controller was used like they took it off another bike I'll pay attention to details also the display also look like it was used and I tell you the reason why I look to me that gives you know the little paper film that they put on there by factory it had a bunch of bubbles like somebody just put it on there with some spit or something didn't even stick it right but it does work I just installed it the day before yesterday and every time I write to Bolton bikes they make things difficult like they don't understand nothing I say to them I've been taking screenshots of everything I've been writing and everything I've been receiving from his wife and I guess his one his workers and Mr Bolton they always get everything confused I was wondering did you get your box the right size
I hope it works out for you. If they sent you a return or a demo model I'd hope they'd at least be honest about it. I bought two different boxes but neither worked so I just left it unboxed. Even in wet weather I haven't had any problems.
Personally I fried so many motors right at the connection to the controller under warranty I didn't feel bad cutting the wire from junk one so the freewheel tool could work
Dragnesi I'm thankful for my rad because I couldn't cycle without it due to lung damage. You should hear my breathing and I generally use PAS1 or 2 so I'm definitely pedaling more. Don't assume things.
Thanks for the video! Looks great. Change P2 to fix the speed reading while coasting. :)

Thanks for the vid, good to see this upgrade is possible. Really wish at 13:22 you didn’t just skip to the completed bike. Like, why man?
I assume that's a Bafang RMG060.750.DC 750W motor? If so, it's peak output is like 1036watts.
Bolton lists it as RMG06, not sure what the peak output is. On my display it has gone way higher than 1036 though, I've seen over 1500 watts.

Thanks for the reply Im doing the same on my RR im waiting for my motor.
Lol. I bought the exact same case. Not the size listed on amazon. Loving those tyres. Where did you get those
I would like to send you pictures of what I done to my bike
I sure love my upgrade, I noticed I have to really crank on it to get pedal assist to work now, still it’s worth it for the Raw power.
Mark M. Akers you might want to check your settings, you might just have it set to a lower power.
adjust the C1 setting. Worked for me, barely need to crank the pedals and it kicks in

Why mutilate the harness when he may need the motor core as a spare?
