Your honest no holds, no bs reviews and tips are appreciated. It sounds like the Rad is holding up pretty well. You do beat the shit out of it and its still ticking.
Stan mentioned battery wear. It's important to not fully discharge the battery, or leave the battery in a mostly discharged (1 bar) or fully charged state for days. That will QUICKLY degrade your battery. It's best to leave it middle-charged (2, 3, or 4 bars) if not riding it for a few days, then charge it just before each ride. The manual mentions this, but I don't think they emphasize it enough.
Hello there! I really enjoy your videos, so thank you for making them! I decided to go a more custom route for my ebike, but I'm incredibly excited to get going. My battery should be here tomorrow. You make ebiking look like so much fun! Take care!
In addition to the Bolton battery that Stan mentioned, they also sell a controller upgrade that bumps max power from 750W to 1200W or so. Plug and play. Includes/requires a new color screen, which is also a functional upgrade. Gives the RadRover much better acceleration, but you need to be a little more careful about overheating the motor. Cost is about $220 ... still waiting for mine to arrive.
@@allenschmitz9644 I have the stock motor. It can put out more power, it's just not rated for it. So with this upgrade, you need to be more careful about applying sustained full power at low speeds.
Dude! you are one old crusty crafty Rad bike owner, excellent info. and your right about the rad battery/after 22 months my 2018 rad at 1760 miles shows a bit of a 5 bar drop off but still I think the 48 volt 14 watt is what it is, a good battery and im not a fan of the fat tires, the size down from that on my rad city is what I like..not one flat in 2 years (k.o.w.)/and I never take my battery off to charge it, good info for those that do.
Good video Stan! I love your straight forward no nonsense approach. Anxious to hear if you or anyone went tubeless and if it diminished the number of flat tires.
I can tell you that the tire liners that you have, I bought 4 of them for a RadRover & RadWagon. The liners work somewhat, but I was still getting flats regularly & at the price, I wouldn’t do it again. •Best• bet is to replace tires on the first flat. I bike commute about 13 miles each way in a major city, and there is a lot of road debris to deal with. On the tubeless option, there are things to consider, mainly the new stresses to the rim, spokes, frame, and drive-train... not to mention the proper tire for it. The bike was not designed for those particular stresses. I know it sounds weird, but the bike shops I use all say the same things. This also goes for using slime. They say it’s not very effective on flats in tubes. Are they right? I don’t know for sure... but I did see another poster giving a link to good protectors... that might be the ticket. I got 1500 mi on the first tires, then about 500 mi for all replacement tires.
My new radrover is coming in june. I live near Las Vegas where the temps during July & August are near 110° and I've read that it's bad to leave the battery in the heat. So I plan on charging the battery indoors, off the bike. My bike comes with fenders and I was thinking about getting a long skid plate to protect the battery. But now I know to watch for dirt buildup in that battery plate reservoir. So thanks for the advice. I have a computer keyboard vacuum, that might work on getting rid of the dirt, and it runs off usb. I'm also a bit shocked at how many flats you get. I'm thinking I might not do much off roading to avoid that. I would be courious to see how the mr toughfy liners work out for you. Thanks again for the informative video, the advice is much appreciated.
Thank you very much for all your tips very much appreciated I have just subscribed looking forward to more videos keep them coming all the best now, Scotland 🏴
That jack stand can double as a fishing rod holder for tying on new eyes and also for making arrows...bet you do this already! You are a rad old guy!!!
Techtro Hydraulic brakes are made for ebikes. Or you can get the Magura e5 which have the cutoff switches as well! Far better stopping power, either way!
I just bought my RadRover a couple of days ago. And I just learned with you that there was hydraulic brakes with cables. Guess what I did.!? Just paused the video, went on Amazon and brought exactly the same pair. Now when the ask me I'll say: Those are STAN HYDRAULIC BRAKES... lol
Had a bunch of flats too. Since green slime, 0. Did u upgrade your controller and go to the full 750 motor? I’ve worn out one Kenda tire. My display is junk. Doesn’t track miles.
Man. Love your videos. You are the reason I orders bikes for me and my wife (waiting for delivery). However, I’m confused by this new video. In your 3,500 mile review you were done with RAD and actually bought a cheep off the shelf bike from Walmart. I feel like you owe your viewers an explanation.
That seems like a lot of flats. A LOT. When I started biking to work I was getting flats at a similar rate, and it turns out I wasn't putting enough air into them. After a few years and thousands of miles, I've had zero flats because I've been inflating the tires to proper pressures weekly / every 30 miles or so (my usual round trip is only 5 miles or so). That's mostly with a hybrid bike and ~80 psi tires... maybe the fatter tires are more prone to flats, especially at lower pressures?
After about 400 miles have to say for this price the RadRover is a good ebike. But have to say components really are those so called "entry level" ones. Just have to take a very good care..
Thanks for the tips,I have the tuffy liner and slime and still get flats constantly,Im getting tired of walking the radrover home,I limit my distance now which sucks but walking the bike 10 miles kinda sucks too,if this keeps up i will be trashing the bike,to bad because i love riding this machine!
After my first flat (around 150 miles) I put Slime in both tires. No flats since, and both stems seem fine. Just passed 600 miles. Anecdotal, but worth mentioning. I also carry a small tire pump. With that, I could have ridden home (19 miles) after the first flat, since it was a slow leak.
Stan "u da Man" good video and thanx for the tips. Question, I watched a few of your prior videos and it was very clear you were done with RAD Bikes. Did I miss something? I steered clear, because of the very in detailed customer service issues. Your problems went on for weeks and into months. What happened, how did you go 180?
Hey Stan - Why don't You just buy the "Original Handlebar Jacks " ?? They solve all that problem You had and weight just ounces. You can take them with You and not even know the're there. I got a set and they are fantastic. Find them at handlebarjack.com for $25.00 delivered. There is a video You can watch there too.
Hi Stan, have you looked at Tannus Armour Tire Insert? There are lots of RUclips reviews on this, but none really applied on the Radrover. Check this product out, and if you decide you would like to try this product out I will sponsor your material costs (about $100) if you will do a review on using this. I have not seen anyone put the kind of tortuous riding on the Radrover that you do. I am not surprised that you have gotten a flat every 10 rides. Let me know if you want to take me up on my offer. We will exchange information and I will have a pair drop shipped to you with new tubes.
19 bikes and newer have a puncture strip in the tire, when you get a slow leak flat don't use slime it won't go through the valve stem clogs like a bitch, go with liquid latex it works good no more flats and Bolton has an up grade on the controller too 200 clams and you get more watts out of your hub motor, why so many flats? Liquid latex fixes the problem
Your honest no holds, no bs reviews and tips are appreciated. It sounds like the Rad is holding up pretty well. You do beat the shit out of it and its still ticking.
Really great practical advice! I like the idea of lining the tire, who needs a flat tire!

I like the tip about the dirt in the battery slot. I ride on sandy beaches and have been charging my battery inside. Thanks for the heads up!
Your bike info tips and tricks are AMAZING!!!!! Thank you👍😊
I did a “ghetto tubeless” splitting the punctured tube and then filled with goo. Seems to work good so far. Thanks for the tips!

How do you like your new upgrade battery, so far so good no problem and can you go more miles on this new battery?
new battery is great. i can go another ten miles.
Great video. I have one question have you considered upgrading your controller and motor?
yes i am thinking about doing both of those upgrades. its a lot of money.
I remove my battery every time I finish riding. Where I live it can freeze any night of the year. I always clean the tray and battery though.
do you have a name for the brake caliber, I cant find the one you mentioned
