Bought the large mounting box , the controller fits easily, the problem is that it’s way too large IF you have the original fenders on the rad rover 5 . The fix as you explained is to just use the old hard ware ( which is hardened steel ) and by longer screws with locking bolts .
I have the radrover 5 I have all stock except, I purchased the 52v 20amp battery that Bolten sold. I can get 70 to 80 mile on one charge. On pedal assist 3 or 4 and 5 at times. Going 20 to 22 mph I went 22 miles on pedal assist 4 and lost one bar.
I've put 4k miles on my rad-wagon. I live a hilly area of Sothern California. This is what makes a difference with battery life and power used. On the flat you can go lvl2 battery and 18+mph, making if more efficient than lvl3 power. However any kind of hill in level 2 slows it down enough to effect the torque output. Now mine is older direct drive motor and more effected by this. sweet spot for torque on mine is around 20mph. So if I go lvl2 up a incline at 11mph or lvl 3 at 19mph I'm using about the same power as you going that much faster. So I rarely use lvl2 in my area as we have so many inclines. On bigger hills I'm lvl5 and going 6mph which sucks as drain is high and torque is low. I've actually felt on slight inclines as I come off stop light that pedaling gets easier as I go faster as the torque increases.
Idk if you'll see this because it's an old video, but do you remember if it took away the big deley the bike has when it starts to accelerate? I want my bike to feel snappier, since i use it to do stunts and wheelies, relying on the motor (i have a RR+ and i love I'm Canada, so 500w.) Do you think if this (a 35amp upgrade) would help me keep the front end up?
there is a setting in the new display the allows for stronger take off acceleration, i think its C5. when i upgraded my RR it was super easy to wheelie it.
they actually cover everything nearly rad is really good with having your back, mine came with a slight bent front disc break so slight i didnt notice it until few days of riding and i happened to look down at it and it was wobbling without actually affecting the experience, contacted rad and they sent me a new one and paid my local shop to change it for me
I got the same fenders for my 19 rover. I am a slower rider, old, lol, so I don't need the upgrade. I will be doing a video on extending the rear fender. I just posted on filling the gaps the fenders leave. Thanks for the great videos

I concur,on the use of the throttle decreases range. That’s because it skips the PAS settings & is PAS 5 when. Using throttle I’m 6’1” 250lbs. I use PAS 2-3 & peddle and I go about 20 MPH. I also have lots of equipment on my bike. 2019 Wagon. It believe it would be nice if the throttle would only be ‘PAS setting we choose. CC,do you know or have any idea of how to disconnect the on off switch but keep the throttle.? ThY.
I watch your video have a 2020 rad step through 3 will that controller and screen work on that model? I understand it will only give u a little pick up power but no top speed.. After I purchase this controller and screen what would It need to do to increase the top speed? Let me know thanks
There is a list of rad bikes that this will fit on the Area 13/Bolton website. If you have a 2020 Rad Rover 5 I think it should work. All of the settings are also listed on the website
I bought my wife the Radrunner (single speed). Will this help with the power when using pedal assist? We have hills and im hoping this will help climb those hills with oedal assist. Thanks!
not sure if this controller works on the radrunner or not, you would have to check the bolton website. but it gives you more power everywhere, throttle and pedal assist.
I installed the upgrade on my Radrunner. I like the new meter, and it has twice the power (seemingly), but I'm still not sure it is worth the reduction in range. I used to get 24 miles on pretty flat mountain trails, but I only got 17 miles after the upgrade. Still trying to see if the settings menu can help.
Citizen, did you do the "hack" where you press both buttons on the PAS controls (in stock form pre-controller upgrade) before you did the tests for your previous video? There is a well known "hack" ( i use the term loosely) that takes the PAS 20MPH limit to 25MPH. You may be able to still do it, despite having another controller. I'm looking at getting one myself, and was curious about the range. You mentioned that you only really have to use PAS level 1...theoretically does using that low of a level PAS for a longer period of time still mean you get much less range, or does it improve the range in any way being at such a low level?
Changing the settings on the stock controller to 25mph top speed is quick and easy. Electrobikeworld.com claims that the KT-LCD8H, used in conjunction with the controller and motor upgrade, can be adjusted to achieve a max speed of 45 mph. Obviously, this is not legal in most places but it is the claim. I’ve seen plenty of others who report higher top speeds after the upgrade.
Is there an upgrade for a rad mini? I’m in Canada so my motor is 500 watt and not powerful enough for some of the hills in my neighbourhood...cheers🍷🇨🇦

I heard you mention your Rover had no USB port.... funny thing is my 2017 Rover has a USB port on the bottom of the controller (not easily noticed if your not looking in the right area) , just fyi...I use it to keep my phone charged with a 6" 90 degree USB cable...
I read the 750W motor upgrade has less torque than the stock Rad Mini 4 500W(same as the Rover). I would think if I upgrade the controller, I'll get better torque, then upgrade the motor and I'll also get a faster max speed.

Hi Brian, thanks for subscribing, not sure what video you are referring to, i have well over 100 videos, a lot are about the Rad bike. i have made many changes to it including controller, battery, and motor and all those changes have made it quite fast. i have a Radrover playlist you could check out to see my upgrades. if you have specific questions you can always email me at ridewithcitizen@yahoo.com
I'm having issues where the PAS only engages for short little half second burst as I pedal. I have the bafang 750w motor and the 35a controller. Only thing I can think of is the pas sensor might be the issue since I had replaced the disc previously. Could it need to be flipped around to face the other direction for this controller?
I installed the bolton upgrade controller and display on my 2020 Rad Rover 5. Initial test ride all seemed fine. Second time I took it out, there was a loud struggling sound from the motor. The throttle would cut out between 7-12 mph. The pedal assist would cut out, not engage or surge. Has anyone else experienced this? I sent an email to Bolton but have no response. Going to switch back to the stock controller
RICHARD Stevens yes Bolton got emailed me back with some programming suggestions. I switched back to the stock controller and no issues. I plan on putting the Bolton controller again tomorrow. Will post results...

Or spend the extra 50$ to buy it from Bolton since he's done all the work to make sure it works. Plus he warranties it, good luck getting warranty on the one you buy off of alibaba
Yeah. The problem is there’s not an aftermarket controller out there that I can find that has the brake light function. Which sucks because aftermarket controllers are only $50-$60.00. But if you want the radpowerbikes connectors and proper wiring+brake light function you’ve got to shell out twice as much cash.
