      THANK YOU SO MUCH!
When I was little, I would get so upset if my school teachers seemed bored or had low energy. I thought "Why aren't they happy?" or "Do they not like us?" Who knows but whenever I had the chance to teach, I gave it a lot of energy.

Ms. Deb, Just finished practicing your video on transitioning from forward to backward skating, so I am very grateful. I hadn’t skated since around 1978 and decided to pick it back up in July of this year (2019) as an auxiliary cardio exercise and thanks to your videos I have made tremendous progress. Your videos are better than the in-person lesson I took (I only took one and it was so bad I decided not to go back). So far I have accomplished the following with your aid: Basic skating and falling mechanics, left/right crossovers, crossovers in turns, t-stop, toe-stop, backward skating (finally got that one in the last 2 weeks) and am working on backward/forward transitions. Your enthusiasm, detailed explanation, numerous pointers, good looks (thickalicious) and skating knowledge is inspirational and I plan to organize a trip to California specifically to take one of your courses. Keep up the great work, as far as I can tell you are the best Skating Sensei (teacher) on RUclips. Thank you and Cheers!!!

So this video sent me to get new cushions and OMG I can't believe how much smoother and more stable my skates feel!!! I've been using SG Fame boots on a Rock plate for over a year now and have never changed the cushions they came with. What you said about changing them out at least every few months made me run to do my research. I figured I should get a set of all the different hardnesses (I got the Super Cushions by SG) and play around with mixing hardnesses for the upper and lower cushions, harder on top for stability and softer on the lower for easier turning. I ended up with 85 (purple) on top and 72 (blue) on the lower, and WOW my spins are actually sliding instead of me fighting to stay in the spins; mohawk turns are faster yet more stable, both CW and CCW; and even outdoor skating on the driveway and skate park concrete feels smoother. HOW IS THIS NOT COMMON KNOWLEDGE? I believed I needed a big skate upgrade to get better on spins and other moves (my coach is having me go Riedell/Snyder and I will still get an upgrade because I want new skates!), but having new cushions on my Fames has been a major eye-opener, and both my son and I have been experiencing some really fun skate sessions in the park. We can't wait to take our cushion-upgraded Fames to the rink. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and experience!

All THIS yes same a game changer.
& i agree nicer plates are YES nicer!
They will provide more agility, responsiveness etc.
But its not a full compromise on cheaper skates as you can simply get cushions fit for you for a much better ride
Ive seen many people do some research & think the basic skates are a total waste but they can upgrade cushions for much improvement instead of straight to replating!! 🖤

Yeah, I'm the one with the 32 year old skates. Nothing ever changed. Lost everything in a fire but my skates were in storage. Too many things are telling me to skate again, except I took a nasty fall and definitely hurt myself. I have fibromyalgia and I refuse to let it take any thing else from me. Diagnosed at 35, I'm now 62 and fed up with being stagnant. Husband taking chemo and I need an outlet. Rink 10 minutes away, if there should be a problem. Sorry to ramble. Anyway, I'm going through your videos and really finding all of my questions and concerns. Thanks so much. Btw, my best friend, who has MS, is from California and I'm trying to help her little granddaughter who has cancer. My friend wants to watch, little girl wants to skate, so I directed her to you. Bless your heart, you're just awesome

Hmm.. Haven't changed in... EVER.. That is 6 sets of skates over almost 50 years.. I have taken them out and rotated them around... Perhaps I have 15 bucks.. And an Amazon account..
Love your enthusiasm and description of "thick" body.
Seems like a fine package to me... You ARE talking about cushions after all!
Quick story.. I was teaching someone to stop "walking" on skates and I got into the fear of falling discussion and I showed her the "drive a tiny car!" Move.. Well of course I threw myself down and one of my skates kicked out and I went spiraling firmly to the floor.. And I started laughing at my own totally graceful as a newborn foal move and she started laughing/stumbling and immediately performed a perfect "tiny car" and DIDN'T fall! We both at the same time looked at each other and yelled TINY CAR!!! It was hilarious! We'll be friends forever now.. Thanks!

WOW! You jumped right into it, didn't you? LOL I was honestly expecting wheels or stops...or even boot types and materials to be first in this series. So many parts, so many decisions on what to cover first...and, this also reminded me, I seriously need to change mine ASAP! I just realized I've had my Ombre's for about 9 months already...and we've been skating around 65 - 70 hours a month! OOPS! LOL That does it...I'm making "Maintenance Sheets" for all of my family so we can note the dates we last changed/replaced each part...now I just need to find a 1/2" binder and some sheet protectors. The joys of having 7 skaters in the family...5 of whom have at least 2 pairs of skates. It's hard to keep track of who's done what to which skates. I've been neglecting my poor babies!!!

THANK YOU DIRTY!!! My mind is literally blown right now. I have been having the EXACT problem you described - I keep loosening the nut on my truck hoping it will help with my edge work, but I've never gotten it to feel right. Now I know I've been skating on cheap dead cushions this whole time! WHAT! I am ordering new ones right now. You are the BEST!

I hope you know how much I love you and your videos! It's hard sometimes because I was a web developer way before I got back into rollerskating, so I usually bite my tongue out of fear I'll come off wrong and offend people. But I just want to be helpful, and I keep thinking back to taking Psychology of Advertising back in the day. So, please forgive me for this, but I'm just trying to be helpful!
So... There's some phrases that don't keep people watching once they hear them, and that sometimes even prompts people to not click like, or to click dislike. One that I've seen over and over and over again is if you say anything that makes the viewer think about the fact that you are making money off our views. That makes us feel like a consumer instead of a friend and partner in rollerskating and turns people off. The phrase "the more I can get from you, the more I can give back to you" is almost certainly the reason this videos view numbers are what they are.

THANL YOU VERY MUCH! Seriously … I appreciate this so much because I am wingin' it here. I hardly watched YT at all before people finally convinced me to make videos. I literally know how to skate/teach but no idea how to make/what to say on these videos. I welcome your thoughts. I will change my ways for sure :) Except for that video I just filmed last night ;)

Dirty, you're so awesome. I miss you. I'm going back to derby after many years off, so I've been making sure my skates are in good shape. One of the parts I knew I needed to fix were my cushions because they're at least 6 years old and I'm pretty sure you were the one I bought them from. I couldn't remember which ones I had and I was bummed I couldn't remember what you had told me about them all those years ago, so you can imagine how excited I was to find your video! I'm happy I can still learn from you. ❤️

Deborah, I’ve been on my GM II plate for about 50 years now .. I’ve Changed my cushions maybe 6 times.. I live in Florida and skate 10 miles around a lake a couple of times a week I was wondering why the vibration was so bad my whole body vibrated.. So I ran across this video, bought new cushions and now it’s all smooth, and my fun zone is happy again 😇..
I’m going to check out all of your videos..
    Thanks you’re great !!!

I had no idea that the skate cushions on my skates needed to be changed, thanks for this excellent video explaining what the cushions do and why they need to be changed. I have been rolling on the same skate cushions 10 years wow Definitely gonna change them soon. Thanks again!
