There's not a single rally car that looks as good as the 1st gen Impreza in it's iconic 555 livery, that thing just looks so damn elegant and cool during those four wheel drifts... The only car that could rival it in good looks is the Lancia Delta Integrale.
I may be a bit of a shill for lancias but hear me out; Stratos? 037? Fulvia? And non-lancia honorable mentions; A110? A310? The Impreza and Integrale are certainly the best post-B though. Celica GT4 is good too.

The Fulvia looked incredibly nimble and agile (and it was); the Stratos looked alien, like as if somebody decided to try to drive a spaceship in the rally events; the 037 was the last of the RWD cars to win an official rally and looked like it was going fast even when standing still, and finally the Delta had almost all these characteristics combined: it looked nimble and agile, slightly alien in every evolution (especially the S4), powerful and intimidating and boy did it bring those points home. Lancias are just something else...
Imo the Lancia Stratos and 037, Ford RS200 and first gen Escort, and S1 quattro and alpine a110 all have it beat, but the 22b is definitely the best looking car Subaru has fielded.

I wonder if the action shots in the anime were modeled after rally footage rather than actual street racing, because there's so much more "visual impact" in both the anime and rally footage than most street cars going really, really fast. Maybe hill climb cars, some of those get pretty sideways too. Also, I would love to see similar edits with the modern Rally North America footage with the Vermont Sportscar team. Would have a different flavor but be equally cool IMO.

And I hardly think it had anything to do with Rally footages. Instead the short film Pluspy made and released in the form of VHS tape by Drift King which was about drifting was a major reason and inspiration behind the making of Initial D and many other entertainment mediums.

I somehow both regret and don't regret making the 2 Eurobeat videos I have. I've learned how to edit basic stuff with those videos therefore making me a decent editor. If you enjoy the video excellent but it's not my best work. I'd suggest following my tiktok as I'm more active there and I actually post content with my car, a 2006 Volvo S60R with a pretty cool interior spec.
