  • In my spare time, I worked for some months on this personal 3D project "Space Cadet", based on a concept of Guillaume Singelin, a French comic artist who has a lot of inspiration from Manga artists like Akira Toriyama and Katsushiro Otomo. In this video, I put parts of the Texturing process using Substance Painter 2020 & Affinity Designer.

    Truly amazing. I also really appreciate that you didn't make the timelapse so blisteringly fast that we as a viewer couldn't see how it was done. Amazing work hope to get there one day! 🔥🔥🔥

    I just watched this entire series an .. wow .. I mean it’s slightly intimidating seeing the massive work it takes to get this level off I e detail .. but inspiring aswell .. I hope to obtain this level of talent in the near future .. 7 months in on my off time and so far an it’s going … but I need to see something like this .. I have so much more to learn

      Hey! Thanks for watching! I know that at first, it's very intimidating, but try to focus and solve each step of the puzzle, instead of focusing on the entire thing (this can be very overwhelming).
      Keep learning, that's the only option :)

    Thanks a lot. The breakdown on your website is probably some of the best and cleanest I've seen. I use Zbrush + Maya + Arnold Renderer, so I couldn't follow along 1:1, but was still great nonetheless! Keep it up, you seem to have great work ethic!

    Que excelente trabajo, te felicito. Que organizacion de los Uvs. Mientras miraba pensaba, tiene mucho espacio libre en el uv, pero claro no esta enfocado a videojuegos y tenes la libertad de poder trabajar con muchos mas materiales y a cada parte darle mas resolución. Aparte de que trabajas mas comodo en cada isla de uv. Gracias por compartir

    Any idea where to get that Lines_V2 line generator @ 0:30? Current version of SP doesn't have any decent line generators included. It's ridiculous.

      Hey Antti! I made a very rough alpha line generator in Substance Designer (in this case Version 2) to use in Substance Painter, it's far from finished but works better than the actual way to do it IMO.

    Hi I would like to ask you few questions !
    In the 1:05 how you can create another normal map below the first normal ?

      I dont use normals for this, I use Height maps, and you can stack layer over layer, so its very easy to add or remove height.

      I know! I had in mind to make an extensive tutorial about Substance, but If I have a lot of professional work, I just make a timelapse.
      By the way! I'm finishing a collaboration with Adobe Substance, and after that, I will have time to think about making a Substance Painter Course.
      I only notice that I don't have the "Beginners Mind." And I need to figure out what's challenging to make when starting. Please let me know if you have specific doubts so I can include that.

      The hair was not made in substance, these are hair particles inside Blender. It was very complicated and I made the hair several times until I got the final one.

      Substance Painter is my favourite texturing program. Blender can do the same. But I prefer SP for that.

    1. what's the second software to draw alphas !
    2. how do u import alphas into substance without saving the file
    3. noticed a paint and after blur - merge layers - how do u do that ?

      1. The second program is Affinity Designer (is like illustrator of Adobe)
      2. Export the alphas as a square image, then import the image ( alpha ) into Substance.
      3. If you can put a timestamp to know which part you are telling me would be great!

      @@kowy_m If there is a way to copy and paste, I don't know that feature. And about the blur, its a filter effect over another paint effect.
      I will do a stream tutorial here on RUclips to explain my texturing workflow.

    Hi, I saw you explained the workflow very clearly in your website.
    In Gumroad, 3rd tier: Complete pack. I saw these two items: Process (.jpg), and complete Process (.jpg). Are these workflows too? I"m interested to go into detail of how you did Substance Painter's texturing. Are these two .jpg detailing the workflow/process? Thanks.

    i have two question about this project.
    1. how long did you render the clay scene? i try to render the scene (cycle) using my laptop, it take around 4 hour to complete.
    2. is the substance file is available in complete pack (gumroad)? I really want to learn how to use substance painter, i'm attract to your workflow.
    this video and your breakdown in website, really help me. so thank you so much.

      1. The clay render takes like 15 minutes with a GTX1080. If you are using CPU try GPU instead.
      2. I did not include the substance Files because are a complete mess. BUT! I will make a Live series here on RUclips to showcase how I texture real time.

      I'm painting a character LIVE on my Twitch, the only problem its that I speak in Spanish. If you mute, you can see the movements at normal speed. Also, I will upload a timelapse of that project. I'm thinking to upload two videos of that project, one at normal speed, and another at a fast pace.

      ​@@aendom While waiting for your answer, I also found a way that may be easier and intuitive using Textools which is a free addon, choose baking and select Element ID, combine the separate object and UV the object, then press baking, the addon will automatic baking an ID map then you could import to painter instead of baking in painter and it's faster and easier to me.
