  • Hello everyone, welcome back to Assetto Corsa Competizione where I’m returning to the Coach Dave GT3 Sprint hot on the heels of my best ever finish with Low Fuel Motorsport.
    Qualifying has gone really well for this one. I’m car 22 in a higher split, but my time of 2.02.5 has put me P12 on a stacked grid of 30. I’m less than 1 second off pole position pace - over a long lap like Suzuka, that’s not bad at all.
    At Brands Hatch last time out, I got onto the LFM podium for the first time. Can I repeat those heroics at a dark and gloomy Suzuka this evening? Well, track conditions are really tough. It’s dry, but there’s precious little grip out there. Hold on to your hats…

    Respect to you for trying to drive cleanly and taking the morons in stride!

    Another great video Chris.
    Your tyre pressures seemed very low which may account for the lack of grip you were experiencing.
    I tried the Lambo here as its absolutely the meta car at Suzuka but i just couldn't get on with it so went back to the Ferrari 296. Suzuka is such a tricky circuit and so easy to lose lap time. One thing i did find was that going down 2 clicks of TC for the hairpin got me a better exit, just have to remember to change it back before spoon which is probably my worst corner at this circuit, im think im just not patient enough and tend to get on the gas too early.
    Definitely give the 296 a go though mate and let me know what you think.

    • @phippsa3

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Год назад +1

      Yeah, the tyre pressures were so difficult to get right here. They were too low at the start, as it seemed to take longer to get them where I wanted them. Then, they only stayed there for a few laps before the temps started going crazy! Great tip about TC at the hairpin… I do have TC buttons mapped on my wheel now, but always forget them in the heat of battle! But reckon I was losing a good 0.5 each lap, exiting that corner. Will try the Ferrari next race!

      @@chrisrogerssimracing I know what you mean about tyres in this race, even with good pressures my tyres were absolutely cooked by the end of the race. Possibly too much sliding during the race is cooking the tyres? Looking forward to saying goodbye to Suzuka, roll on Watkins Glen.

      I believe TC6 is for rain. could be wrong.
      after 1.9 update i run TC4-5 max. The Porsche is rapid out of slow speed corners so you would lose time there anyway. BMW has always had low torque.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Год назад

      @@chickey31 Yeah, I must admit there’s no science to which TC I end up going with. I just flick through them during my practice laps, and stick with the first one where I don’t feel like I’m going to crash every corner 🤣

    • @chickey31
      @chickey31 Год назад +1

      Haha 4-5 seems to work. Just need to adjust driving style. M4 is easy to catch a slide. If you watch back the replay you can see the TC is triggering way too much. Almost all the way through some corners. Probably costing you a second around a lap. I’d also say try Friedolf free setups. You’ve been playing ACC for a while I tbink you could benefit from a proper setup.

      Yeah exactly! From what I’ve seen, you can get 3 track limit earnings before you’re in danger of getting a drive through penalty. So effectively 3 free shots at saving time with a track cut! I may be wrong, but that’s what it seems like to me.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Год назад

      For specific temperatures, I’ve got no idea 🤣 I just keep an eye on the tyre HUD, and know it’s ok as long as it’s green. When it starts turning yellow, that’s when it’s too hot. I think opening up brake ducts in the setup can help with cooling. Or alternatively, don’t slide around as much - I think that was my problem here, I was sliding through corners too much.

  • @daviddavies3637

    A 2:02? Suzuka is a track I've always struggled on. My record before getting in the Ferrari 296 was a 2:06. Got it down to 2:04. I tend to really struggle at Spoon and I'm even worse coming out of the hairpin. The Ferrari just bogs down. I'm wondering if the trick is to give a squirt or two of the throttle as you take the turn to stop it bogging down.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Год назад +1

      Yeah, exiting the hairpin was easily costing me 0.5secs per lap. Another viewer has just commented about dropping TC a couple of notches to get an extra burst out of the corner (but remembering to put it back up before Spoons). That definitely sounds like it’s worth a try. I’m with you on Spoons… such a difficult corner. Whichever line I take, it always feels wrong!

    • @daviddavies3637
      @daviddavies3637 Год назад

      @@chrisrogerssimracing It's something I'm not even sure I have mapped as I never adjust bb and tc during a race. I noticed in his live stream the other day than not only was Jardier able to pull away from the chicane quickly, he also seemed to be able to get his car to turn a lot quicker as well. A lower TC might benefit both.

    • @daviddavies3637
      @daviddavies3637 Год назад

      @@chrisrogerssimracing Well, tried changing the TC mid-race and I found I struggle to do two things at once. 😂 I've actually gone the opposite route and INCREASED my TC to almost Max. Seem to be faster through the esses. And when dealing with the hairpin, I start with the throttle earlier, so that by the time I've made the turn, my revs have increased just enough to get a slightly smoother getaway. My best time's now dropped a further 1.5s. Noticed some people in higher splits are getting a 1.19. That's insane.

      I hear you on that . I was so thrown off by the feel i thought my wheel ffb was broken when I started at suzuka😂.
      Also , the corner you kept losing time at , I think you're just carrying a little less pace while you're rolling in the middle . Then when you flatten your foot on exit , tc is cutting in a lot / no traction ( I'd say if you carry more speed , the backend might slide a bit more coming in but on exit you'll have more traction because it'll be less of a step up in speed coming out )

      Yeah, setups are where I always struggle. The tyre pressures were mostly ok. I did a few practice laps and set my pressures accordingly. But by the halfway point of the race, they were heating up way too much (and losing grip). I believe the fix is to open up the brake ducts (effectively air-cooling the tyres). Trouble is - you need to do a race distance practice session to know that tyre temps will be a problem. I literally just did 4-5 laps so finished my practice before the tyres got hot!
