Robert are notoriously a very hard guest in any talk show. David handle him greatly, a testament on how great he is as a host.
Inkább nagykepű? Igen
They could have both just sat there silent, and Dave would have filled it in perfectly.
agree 👍
Robert are alway great
I think it's because Bob's not very intelligent. He doesn't really have a lot to say.
I love how people almost apologise or make excuses for De Niro. He's one of the greatest film actors ever, but he's also shy and insular. Nothing wrong with that.
He doesn't seem shy to me, just not particularly interested in this kind of format. The canned questions and the attempts at probing - when everybody knows the only reason for the appearance is to promote the film. And, it was gruelling to watch DL's attempts to make it work.....
Most people dislike him bc he hates DJT! I’m with Mr. De Niro!👏🏿
He’s not shy he’s just aloof and let’s be honest he can be rude.
@@vantheman1238 He is not a smart man, a great actor but he is just a dunce. He needs an intelligent writer to give him lines to read.
Bob can do whatever he wants. He's Deniro! An he really doesn't like doing interviews. Deniro and Hoffman are icons. I thought this was fun, and, Dave Letterman was lucky to have them on his show. It was just too funny though how Bob was so ambivalent to Dave's comments, trying to dig at him a little bit. Just too funny.😂😂
Two genuine legends. Dustin Hoffman has a brilliant sense of humour...he had me in stitches.
Thankfully both are still with us.
Btw Bobby is part Armenian And Dustin is descended from Ukrainian Jews.
You need to get out more if you think Hoffman had you in stitches. Try Norm McDonald, Dave Chappelle, Bill Hader,
Three!
@@kidotai1777
The guys you mentioned are comedians, that’s their job, Dustin is not a comedian, he is an actor. The funny part is, is these two legends weren’t trying to be funny, it just was. You also have to be of a certain age to relate.
@@martron1962I agree Dustin is a great all rounder. He can act and not be so up his own ass when it comes to being interviewed as for Deniro he thinks he's too important to be interviewed. Dustin is a real pro 10/10 for his character
"Bob, this is like jury duty..
You won't have to come back for seven years!" Comic gold!
The audience knows legends when they see them. Love the extended applause!
Tootsie is looking pretty good. Hoffman ain’t half bad either.
They do exactly the same with idiots….the audience doesnt know anything….they only want to get loud.
You didn't see the whole thing. For some lame reason this was edited. This interview is elsewhere on RUclips with the entire unedited opening. It's much better.
Yes
@@movieman1556thanks for the tip will look into it
The awkwardness was pure comedy.😂😂😂 Loved this interview.
I was cringing from the awkwardness 😂😂
DeNiro’s silence is legendary. What an amazing artist. What a great and funny interview. Memorable ! David is just superb…..
Deniro thinks he's too important for that interview. Get over yourself bob. Take a leaf out of Dustins book, he can still have a laugh and Laugh at himself
@@jamieb0nd y exactamente como sabes lo que DeNiro piensa??
@@emilianoferreyra3503 Agree. He just doesn't like talk shows which are usually for promoting a movie.
What. Going on a talk show and literally saying nothing. You think that makes him an amazing artist ? What an absolute bore he is.
he's too dumb. He doesn't have anything to say. I almost feel sorry for him.
Two of the best actors of all time.
One is a great actor, the other is Robert de Niro in every movie he ever played in
@@michaelkupfer3723 Dustin Hoffman is a better actor than Robert De Niro.
all about the craft. These nyc-trained actors (and talk show hosts)
are a different breed.
@Jeff Whitman Hoffman not one of the best actors? ROFLMAO
@Jeff Whitman Dustin Hoffman is legendary, the others you mention are not as legendary as him. As simple as that. It's call charisma.
Deniro the entire time was thinking when is this over.
Absolute perfection. Never ham it up. Be yourself. Acting is for movies.
Well put.
one of the best interviews laughed all the way through
Deniro is so laid back. A man of few words. So funny too 😂
They truly are 2 of the finest actors. You just know when they are in any movie, it’s going to have top quality acting.
so true manamal.
Deniro hasnt acted in 30 years. He just pulls silly faces in front of the Camera.
@@sondradupree8709 and you can do better. Lol 😆 😂 🤣
@@titusmaximus7278 , Thanks for agreeing that is all DeNiro does. Pull silly faces.
@@sondradupree8709 "Don't worry Tony, forget about it".
Three genuine legends at their crafts.
De Niro is kind of like Bob Dylan in that he doesn't really have say anything; his work is so monumental it speaks for itself. Great interview, haven't seen it since it originally aired.
He is the definition of less is more.
He is very shy, I met him at a friends apartment in NYC more than once. Robert is quite reserved
Neither of em like media and this kinda format
perfectly and accurately summed up. de nero is my fav actor EVER...and imop-(thee greatest actor of ALL TIME). Al pacino-(2nd).
great analogy actually, never thought f it.
I like how DeNiro only laughs when it's genuine. Authentic. Gotta give him that. He doesn't seem like a happy man, but then who really is.
Ppl who don't laugh much, often have an authentic and beautiful smile. I'm in Germany and witness it once in while
He seems content. He’s just not a clown. No need to laugh and smile for no reason.
He's notoriously shy.
Robert de Niro isn't obligated to please anybody. David Letterman still had to deal with it till the end of the show. The awkwardness of it all made the interview a classic.
Dustin is hilarious!! I just love him!!!
Way to go Dave. Really difficult interview. You made the absolute best of it!
It's hard when people come on talk shows and don't talk. Ridiculous really.
it was deliberate. Dave shown how brilliantly he can carry any interview
DeNiro is such a force that even though he/they aren't acting here it's hard to take you eyes off of him.
And he was so hot in The Godfather Part II . . .
It was a set up. thats what made it so funny. He was playing on the fact he is quiet
100 percent. He's well aware that the less he does, the more the audience will eat it up. And all he needs to do is grimace, flash a little side eye, and mumble under his breath "...lil bit, yea"
But..I don't think he does it on purpose. That's not a "thing" or an act, that's Robert DeNiro. @@girliephotographer
Not my first time to see this segment, but I'm just now realizing how dave slayed the interview. The balance between adulation and comedy was masterful!
Classy and sassy!
Phenomenal actors!!!
@@RubenGanevpffft
The whole thing is awkward.
The one thing I wonder, just what did Dustin do to make Bob do the interview? Bob must of lost some type of bet to Dustin. :D
Love Dustin giving Dave props for the one liner.
I love how Dave throws out the line about Hoffman and DeNiro being "subsumed" in their characters, and then the two take a small side bar and kibbutz about the meaning of it.
Classic Dave and a brilliant ad lib by Dustin and Robert.
All of them; Masters of their craft.
If anyone thinks, de niro is acting awkward, or uncomfortable, it’s because he is. He does not give interviews. It gives him really bad anxiety and he tenses up and cannot talk, that’s why you see him acting like that and also never see him doing interviews rarely.
DeNero was difficult and Dave was a pleasure to watch such a masterful job. Dustin a true gentleman.
it's called being introverted and being uncomfortable in conversation in interviews......yes! even for an amazing actor like DeNiro
@@kevinlewis8162 if you say so it must be true.
@@sandyb6460 you seem skeptical and a bit sarcastic, but hey! not really my problem you have that kind of attitude
He is a very shy man, not difficult just shy
People who know Letterman, Hoffman and Di Nero know how hilarious this is. Great act! Bravo 👏
Good God, it is hilarious. I laughed my ass off. They are so funny, both Bob and Dustin and David he is so smart with his interviews so talented.😂😂😂
This was one of the best interviews in the later years of the show
We find that Dave’s interviewing was a crescendo from where he started that never looked back. By the end he was simply the best in the business.
They both are legends!! I appreciate both of their individual personalities!! 👍👍👍
It was an often awkward interview to watch when I first saw it. Now I can sit back and truly appreciate 3 legends being together. It was golden for me to hear both great actors giving the Oscar-less Amy Adams her props.
2 of the GREATEST ACTORS on the face of the earth 🌎 ❤ MUCH LOVE and RESPECT to both of you ❤️
Dave at his very best!!!
Without doubt.
No lie, my face literally hurts from smiling after watching this. It was painful yet hilarious making it through. God, how I love those two. And to have them together ... well ... I’m happy to have seen this in my recommended. Thanks!
(Now this old lady is gunna go distract myself from some unclean thoughts.😉)
And this one is gonna go watch Godfather II again . . .
@doberwmn - What a coincidence. I’m recently catching up on rewatching all those, too! Fabulous movies. Take care.
"How long have you guys being Married ?"
brilliant
Has to be one of the most awesome interviews. Just looking at them brings a few decades of exemplary acting and history in front of your eyes.
They are so toned down because they have done so much, achieved so much.
14:15 Robert genuinely touched by Dustin.
Starts at 13:26
He’s a big softie.
DeNiro is so humble as a man and it comes through in all of his work.
That is partly how we can fall in love with some of the less than perfect characters, he has portrayed through the years.
Well he showed a reaction.. so that means something haha
“We both left our wives...” 😂😂😂😂
Fantastic actors, great personalities. 😊
They complete each other
18:59 Robert talking about The Irishman here. In 2010. Man that film took a long time to make
One of my favorite videos, Deniro having fun always makes me giggle
Who knew it would be so difficult to interview two people? 😁
This is like pulling teeth. It is definitely comedic, definitely entertainining, but also extremely uncomfortable to watch. One never knows if De Niro secretly despises Dave, or simply tolerates being interviewed.
I dont think DeNiro likes to verbalize the experiences of being an actor. He feels it and internalizes it, understands what he's doing with regards to preparation and execution, but doesn't (and often is unable to) wrap it up into neatly digestible words. There are lots of actors and musicians like this. They are artists, not talk show guests.
@@dr.scanlan6112 Yup Pacino the same. Dylan, George Harrison, Miles, too many to list. ARTISTS are different, and they know it, and often are very introverted because of it.
It’s impossible to comprehend the influence of these two colossal talents. The best America has to offer.
Wow what a honor 2 see my 2 favorite actors together. Thank you so so much. I love you Dustin & Robert
Letterman did a fine job of interviewing deniro and hoffman, two of our greatest. Good work!
Dustin Hoffman is like older brother looking after Robert de Niro
They dont have to say or do nothing ,people will cheer ,clap and admire them 😊
I like them both
I love Once upon time in America
Kramer versus Kramer
I think they have wonderful friendship
This is the greatest interview in the history of television.
Dave:
"You guys are subsumed by the material."
Dustin:
"Subs...?! Subsumed? What is subsume?"
Deniro:
"Yeah ok... Sort of... Something like consumed and... Yeah"
That was priceless.
I'm almost POSITIVE I saw this when it first aired! Watching it again was amazing. I was hanging on every word that was said, I didn't want it to end!
Two outstanding actors, and a great interview of them both. Why hasn't Robert De Niro been given a Hollywood Star on the Walk Of Fame yet after acting in so many great films for decades?
He does have a star
Robert telling he is working on a movie with Scorsese, Pesci and Pacino! That movie took a long time to make
Indeed as Martin Scorsese couldn't get funds for it. Finally Netlfix came to action
You can’t rush greatness.
@@ekstradycja was a different project
They are hilarious in this movie!!!!!! Now that's what star's are!!!!!💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👍!!!!
For 10 YEARS?!!!!
Two great actors legends
DeNiro has gotten more handsome as he has aged - I like his longish tresses!
What an interview, I couldn't think of a better interviewer than Dave, he was respectfully reverential, (rightfully so), towards these living legends.
For sure. He has such a different disposition than with the younger stars of the day.
Letterman may have his faults, and he has, like talking over guests, making jokes at their expense, but you can not take away how expertly he shaped this interview, based on these two screen legends, with very different attitudes and approaches, but equally profoundly talented and skilful. This interview comes close to perfection, the end result being that both stars shone bright in each their own particular, very different way.
A Legendary interview. Dustin Hoffman was amazing in "Marathon Man". The Godfather Pt.2 Robert De Niro was brilliant.
“How long have the two of you been married?” I’m rolling 🤣😂😅🥲
“Well Bob I Know U Got a Car Leaving”😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
So sweet to watch them during the beginning ovation.
Almost a whole minute of clapping for these two legends
I get the sense De Niro is taciturn because acting takes up most of his speech. His silence and dry, but rare, delivery is always a comedic treat too.
That was one of the greatest interviews I have ever seen! And Dave has done so many great ones.
Probably one of my most favorite interviews to watch.
As great as this was, it would have been absolutely phenomenal if Al Pacino would have been present, just imagine that.
I like Hoffman’s humor, and I think DeNiro was contrived on purpose (perhaps for mysterious and comedic effects) have to give Dave props for handling it like a pro.
Edit: Props to Anthony Hopkins too, my favorite actor.
Dustin is so cool and real.
Non-comedians will never know how hard it is to try to make an entertaining bit when the person beside you is flat. It’s one of the hardest things you can do and only the best Comedian can do it. I commend Dave for being able to pull it off. Johnny Carson used to ban people from the show for acting the same way. Dave played on it. The funny thing is, had Dinero not been laid-back and quiet… The whole segment would not have come off as entertaining. It could’ve been disastrous.
I commend all three. I’m sure Dinero actually really enjoyed this. You could see him breaking a smile every once in a while. Probably second-guessing his history of not appearing on the show. I’m going to guess that it was in loyalty to Johnny… Or maybe he just for whatever reason had preconceived notions about Dave. Definitely hilarious.
How lucky are we 🤩that had the privilege to live to see those Wonderful Creator Souls 💖😊🤗🪻🌅 and enjoyed their creations growing up with them😊💖 it has been a complete joy🤩🥳☺️
Dustin once spoke at a school I was attending and gave the most inspirational speech. Saw Bob and Pacino speak at Paramount on different occasions, they were o.k...... but Dustin ....I mean WOW! 💖
Robert de niro is hilarious. He plays uncomfortable perfectly.
Letterman is such a pro.
These 2 are so special....off screen they're so witty and interesting. Even though they really are not particularly talkative. And Letterman is great at interviewing " quiet " personalities.
Dave skated the razors edge of ambivalence. Oscillating brilliantly between contempt & reverence. Legend.
Truly icons
Bob played a great role in the movie ,The Mission. What a great soundtrack too.
Yes, keep showing these clips....Thumbs up!
Dinaro is just one UNHAPPY PERSON, SO MUCH ANGER.. Wow
God I have loved Dustin Hoffman’s smile since I saw him in the Graduate ❤❤
Love Dustin. He's been in some of my favorite movies. Papillon with McQueen a favorite. And others.
Dustin Hoffman my love.
Midnight cowboy and pappion.
These two guys are so New York! Funny to see them suffering through this interview at times, but I think that David Letterman, made the best of it; tough not having the guests react the way you'd like. But these two are legends and have done such great movies. (from Sandi)
2 of best 👌 actors,, in history's of cinema ❤️ 😍 🇮🇷 ✌️ 👏
I’d pay to see these three talk if they took this show on the road lol
Two phenomenal actors, love to watch them,in productions any productions. Both are admired in their industry top performers.
As a Brit I think David Letterman was a great talkshow host even when some guests wouldn't talk much ! 👍🇬🇧
ive always loved daves questions. they range from silly to serious to inquisitive seamlessly. tom snyder had that but he wasnt silly
The mix is charming and disarming.
David Letterman is the king of late night!
No Johnny Carson
THE DEERHUNTER. INCREDIBLE!
One of my favorite episodes David.
This is my fav interview. I miss you David Letterman
When Dave ran through the list of great movies these two have done, my thought was gee i’ve got to rent or stream these movies and binge watch! 😀
The best interview ever. Ever.
wake me up before you go go... hands together for these two... and many thanks for all that is given.
Thank God for Dustin. Bob’s got issues.
Icons and legends won't be replaced ever.
Hoffman always funny AF, and DeNiro awkward as always ( still a legend no doubt)
If I am correct, DeNiro is an actor, not "entertainer" per se. I appreciate his honesty.
@@oldtimer7635 being an entertainer does not make you dishonest, and actors like attention like all of us who work on a stage
this is is my favorite !! absolute gold !! cracking up laughing !!! thanks for this !!
Two legends, always a pleasure to watch!!
I love the work this 2 actors have done, very good.
One of my fave interviews
Two students sent to see the School Counsellor.
I so enjoyed this between these amazing talents, less is more. Laughed so much
Fantastic interview loved this! Hilarious way to go Dave!!!
Definitely Rob and Dustin are stars borned 😊🙏
Thanks to Rob for being active in movies, however Dustin great in his teaching classes, very real ,thanks for the video😊🙏
