Whelen 4008 - Windhaven Park - Plano, TX

Here is one of the 10 remaining Whelen 4008s in Plano. This unit is located at Windhaven Park right by Plano West High School and Renner Middle School. This siren sounds the wail signal as well as a voice test. The remaining Whelen 4008s are all scheduled to be replaced by 2018. This is one of the units scheduled to be replaced next year (siren #10 in the system).

Nice catch. It has a newer ESC-2030 logic board driving it as opposed to the 2020s on the others. Nice to hear one that doesn't skip on the wind downs.

I noticed that too. They are probably getting the site ready so they can swap the head with a 2910.

This siren has been replaced with a 2910

All of them got replaced with 2910s because you barely could hear the vortexes and 4008s so they brought in the 2910 which is a lot louder than them both.

@@ethearnos6397 These were the older model vortexes and they were broken to shit and back. Plus they put more sirens down in order to get better coverage and the 2910s were a perfect solution.

Nice find! I didn't know Plano had a siren with the new controller. I wonder why it doesn't rotate to all 4 directions during voice.

I wondered about the rotation too. Only one 4008 that I've seen operate in person (the one by fire station #8) has actually rotated to all four directions for the voice test. I'm inclined to think it's the rotation commands sent by the EM and not the sirens themselves, but it's all speculation.

Yeah when it comes to voice on these 4008s it can be iffy. I've had an experience where one didn't even do voice.

As far as I know they'll only have 2910s soon. They're slowly replacing the 2810s too.

2001 are a pathetic replacement also when 2001 is only 125 and 4008 is 130db
