First of all thank you for this video, it is really rare to come across such a video on youtube, its been quite helpful. As for my question, what do you say about their reaction times? Let's say you are listening to an electronic music and you just want them to strobe at the same frequency with the music that is played. Do you think ikea bulb will give the same reactions as philips lights? How would you compare those in terms of the reaction to the music that is being played?
I haven't tried this with IKEA lamps, but even with Philips ones I have had odd delays in response time to updates. Not sure if it depends on how congested the air is with radio signals, if there's a setting for smooth transitions or I just try to do it for too many bulbs at once and they are queued up. 🤔 So no conclusive answer from me here I'm afraid. 😅
Hi! I was wondering the same thing and today I bought an IKEA Trådfri RGB bulb to try it out and compare it to the Philips Hue bulbs that I already own. Sadly, Trådfri doesn't seem to work with Philips Hue Sync (if there isn't a work around that I haven't figured out yet) and when changing through the RGB colors it does so relatively slow. Also Turqoise is still just white, Yellow is greenish and blue is absolutely not as deep as with the Hue bulbs.
About 250% off the Trådfri price, which is why the IKEA ones were attractive. I'll look to get a few more Phillips Hue ones though, just, whenever they're on sale again... 😩
@@SadlyItsBradley Philips surely has a more polished feel, brighter and darker (lower min) and fade-in/out when turning on/off, while the IKEA bulb has sharp on/offs. Still, is it worth the huge premium? In some cases, probably. I have a Hue light as my wake-up light, as it fades in and as mentioned get a lower starting brightness (I can set a routine for it to gradually fade in a certain time). It's up to what it's going to be used for.
I have both, myself. I've been buying hue bulbs now and again, but I went to IKEA, and the bulbs were being sold for, like, $4-5, so I picked up 10, which was the price of 1 Hue bulb. However, I still use Hue for my main floor. The Tradfri RGB bulbs are more suited to accent lighting than full lighting. I'm using them in my basement and it gets pretty dim down there.

thx for this vid! btw, if I want to connect tradfri to any app, do I need tradfri gateway? I am okay with green and cyan issue since I prefer magenta and blue, but the basic colors were bit disappointing.
It's been a while since I bought new Trådfri bulbs, I don't think they have Bluetooth? I think that is what you need to look for to use them without a gateway though. Personally I have a gateway and that is the thing that connects to Google Home, as I use the Google voice assistant.

I happened to buy a philips tv and stumbled upon this whole(damn expensive) smart lightning thing...i "kinda" want to buy 3 bulbs that would work with ambilight on the tv - would you recommend getting 3 ikea's bulbs or hues? Hues are going at 50€ and trådfris at 20€. Ikea bulbs are much more appealing for me.
Honestly it becomes a matter of personal preference. IKEA will be cheaper but with limited color space and additional work connecting them to a Philips base. Personally I only have Philips bulbs now as that process of connecting the IKEA bulbs was quite frustrating and I do want the rich colors. That's what I ended up doing 😅 I did use IKEA bulbs with my TV for a while though and it worked as expected.
@@iikkakonola what did you end up doing? And also, do you need to only setup the bulbs with the hue base, or does it need internet connection and connection? Any idea when ikea might update their shit?
I did end up putting the IKEA bulbs to kids rooms and got 3x hie bulbs, as ambilight doesn't work with IKEA bulbs. (at least I didn't get them working). I doubt that hue box needs Internet connection for bulb control, it just needs to be in the same lan as the WiFi ap that connects to the bulbs.
No idea, I haven't bought any more RGB lights from IKEA after this, I did get a warm white with a motion detector for a storage room though but that's it.
När jag gjorde det här med Philips Hue-appen är jag rätt säker på att jag bara hittade färg för IKEA-lamporna, inte temperatur, om jag nu minns rätt. Har det inte uppsatt just nu så kan inte kolla direkt.
Well yes, but in this case this is only relative between the two, there is no other light reference, and the apparent brightness depends on the camera exposure which I had set manually.
@@dawi a single bulb? They're no different from old bulbs, if you have a room small enough to be lit by one bulb, sure, if not no. Also depends on what wattage you used prior of course.
It did for me, as long as you get them registered with the Philips Hue base they're good to go. They don't work with Hue Sync though, from my testing around the time of the video, but that's a different feature.
@@BOLL7708 Yes that's true. Btw I was not trying to hate or something, but for me IKEA Trådfri is better because imo it is the same quality and is cheaper. It even works with the Philips Hue Bridge and app.
Price is most important for me too, as I’m poor, but I have already been bitten by a cheap smartbulb which though perfectly adequate in many areas, simply doesn’t have a low enough dim brightness setting, to make a gentle wake-up light feasible. The minimum setting is still so bright, you are juddered awake with a light in the face, no matter how R-dominant you make its first customised and scheduled setting. As the video poster also has this use in mind, his comparison video was one of the few useful ones on here for my own purchasing decision. Paying under half-price is *not* an advantage if the bulb doesn’t actually do what you hope it will.
this was so helpful, thank you so much!!
perfect, quick and informative
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I finally have my Phillips Hue lights setup finished. My best example is the Dolby Atmos demo.
