  • Short video showing you how you can save money on your smart home by using the IKEA smart lights with the Philips Hue Bridge and App.
    This is a great option if you've already bought the Philipe Hue bridge and have a few bulbs already connected. You can expand your smart homes lighting and save some money. By setting up IKEA smart lighting with the Philips Hue Bridge.
    You do not need the ikea hub/gateway to make this work.
    In my case, I'm using the Tradfri GU10 Smart bulbs with the philips hue bridge and controlling the bulb through the Philip Hue app.
    Once you've used the Hue essentials app to add your ikea bulbs to your Philips Hue app, you can switch back to the Philips Hue app and control your IKEA Smart Bulbs at the same time as your Philips Hue ones.
    Hue Essentials App can be found here

    Oh, my good man! Just coming here to thank you!
    Before your video I was very frustrated trying to turn on and off continuously, as suggested by the traditional method in other places.
    I already used the hue essentials app, so this method was very convenient. It worked flawlessly and effortlessly.
    Thanks a million!

      Glad to hear I could help you out! My IKEA bulbs have been working with all routines etc since I put this video up.
      I was in a position where I was convinced it would work and tried just about everything possible. Stumbled across this method buried in forum and thought it would make the perfect tutorial video!

      @@slughead that's really awesome!
      Do you know if it's also possible to use the Ikea switch to control a room containing a Phillips hue bulb + an Ikea smart plug?
      I could not even pair it to the bridge. Some methods I saw out there seem to only work with Ikea bulbs connected to hue bridge.

      @@felipeoliveira895 The only other thing I've tried is the IKEA internal PIR (Motion sensor) and that failed miserably. Never say never though, this smart home stuff is moving at a rapid pace.
      I've recently set up HomeAssistant and you can use that to trigger things between systems, e.g. ikea hub has switches and sensors, that can then send the command over to the hue system to turn specific lights on. I've also set up one for motion of CCTV, turns the brightness of external light up, waits a few minutes then dims them again.

      @@slughead ohh! That is a clever way to handle it! I did not want add yet another hub on top of hue, but I may give it a try if I fail with this simple integration!

    did you buy the premium version of Hue essentials? Now to access the touch link its a pay'd feature. My Trader light bar drivers I could find via search for lights, but not having the same luck with individual bulbs

      Yeah just an in app purchase for it, pretty sure it was a small amount. Can confirm this still works and works with colour bulbs, bought a bunch and used this method a few weeks ago

    What kind of lamp are you using to be able to turn the lightbulbs?? I can't figure out !

    • @slughead

      It was just some lamp that was from a small photobooth set that accepts the GU10 bulbs. You can totally put them straight into the final light fitting and set them up mind.

    Will Google Home recognise 3rd party bulbs added to the Philips Hue app?

    • @slughead
      @slughead  7 месяцев назад

      It should do, if Google home works in a similar way to home assistant, it pulls from the hue hub. As long as the hue hub can communicate it's all good

    You forgot to mention about the " Hue Essentials " APP ... 1 part costs MONEY ...
    that the " TouchLink " has a " Subscription Service " you need to enable, to get that part working! ⁉
    I'm trying to get ZigBee Motion Sensors working, but I need a Hub, so I got the "Philips Hue" (bridge I think.?)
    NOTHING works thru the Philips Hue .. That's why I thought this video was going to be useful .. It's not 😥
    I mainly have Mirabella Genio bulbs & Mirabella Genio smart power points .. Do I need a HUB to control everything.?
    I thought the Philips Hue controlled all ZigBee stuff.? - What HUB do I need to make ANYTHING work.? Anyone.? 🤔

    • @slughead
      @slughead  Год назад

      Well I've never had to spend anything within the Hue Essentials app. The only options for spending within the app are to unlock additional features like different colour patterns.
      What you're looking for is a universal hub, that's not something I've even explored as I'm happy with the current setup.
      However, I am yet to try but the latest generation Ruckus wireless access points are also Zigbee hubs. But the Access points are like £500 each.

      Hi - the Hue hub / bridge is only good for "Friends of Hue" or "Zignbe light link" devices (ZigBee Light Link (ZLL) is a global standard for interoperable and easy-to-use consumer lighting and control products. It provides the consumer with new lighting functionality, including remote control, programmable timer control and mood lighting).
      if you want to control more than just lighting then you may need to look at a Zigbee hub like Habitat or those in SOME Amazon Echo devices such as the Echo (not Echo DOT) 4th Generation. hope this helps
