The Original voice actors are something else. Sub all the way. I may not know what they are saying until I read it, but I can feel the emotions they are feeling every time.

the sub voice actors are so good and have been playing the voices for over 2 decades, their dedication and passion really comes though in my opinion, so sub all the way
luffy's VA has been in the business since the 80s at least, she did krillin from his first appearance in episode 15 (I think) of dragon ball.
I also tend to skip filler arcs, with no exception for One Piece. But I strongly recommend you watch the G-8 arc (ep 196 ~ 206). It's a filler arc, but a very fun arc. It's the best filler arc I've seen in any long running anime.
There's not much filler arcs in one piece anyway. Most of them are very shorts too.

The filler arks are only around 5 episodes and appear every 50-100 episodes
They are absolutely fine to skip as it usually just involves them going to another island with a short adventure and then returning to the seas, back where they were, to continue the story.
Some of the filler is good though ( G-8 )

One piece filler is only about 10% of the story and they are honestly good. I didn’t skip any filler as they were fun to watch and as a one piece fan you can never have too much of one piece. But I would say skip the Enies lobby fillers cuz the cut in between the fights.

Most of the filler are movie tie ins if I remember correctly. And the original fillers (G8) are really good. I'd say the only filler you truly need to skip is the second half of Longering Long Land.
i watched most of all the filler, but you can skip some of the ones that are clearly filler like the ones in the newest arc where theyre recaps of what already happened
The Warship island filler is a must skip imo, it contradicts things later on that just confuse people who have watched it.

I will say best way to watch is subbed! And in regards to filler. The most known and beloved filler is the G8 filler which is small but is a fan favorite as it actually doesn't feel like a filler at all! I would say atleast watch G8 when you get there. other than that you can skip the others.

So excited for you!! I would say there’s some filler you could skip and not miss anything, but try to find the episodes that lead into or out of arcs. A lot of times they connect.
Def sub cuz the first episode finna be idk how to explain it but you’ll understand when u caught up it just hits different
Always sub, also I think you should recap reactions by arcs and/or sagas. Single episodes will get lost in the shuffle.

Even when I started reading the manga back in 06 there was already 400+ chapters, and it was daunting even then, though I caught up in a week at 50 chapters per day. I can only imagine how much more daunting starting it now would be.
It still shocks me every time I think that I've been reading this series weekly for more than half my life (17 years, I'm 29)

The filler in one piece is usually gold especially the arc right after skypiea its imo one of the funniest bits in one piece
The only good thing 4-kids brought to one piece was that honestly really good intro that they made it was a one piece rap and it was very catchy .

I strongly recommend watching the fillers, most of them are very funny and entertaining. Plus they're mostly inbetween major arcs so they don't get in the way too much
The thing about One Piece is that from early on you can tell that its going to be a very very long series. The first like 50 episodes in East Blue i would consider that the prologue of the series. When you have characters you like with a story as captivating as One Piece its exciting. lve been watching consistently fir the last 18 years of my Life its become a constant Every Saturday a new One Piece Episode!!!
One piece recently out sold Batman becoming the 2nd most selling comic/ manga of all time. When ever the final chapter comings out probably with the next 4-8 years, the sales will sky rocket and probably take Superman as well

if you get to a part that really drags(this really becomes noticeable in the later episodes), you could watch "One Pace" if you like. It's the anime condensed down to just what's in the manga, and makes the pacing a ton better. But it's up to you, and for the first 300 episodes, the pacing isn't bad.
One Piece has ONE instance of great filler that many fans really, really love. The arc is called G8. I am sure people will ask you to watch it if you reach that point!

Just so you know this video is outdated by half a decade, so there's now actually nearly 1000 named characters, 1047 chapters so far, and it has already surpassed Batman (all titles collectively) in lifetime sales and is on it's way to superman. Although on a technicality it already should be much higher since One Piece is published in Weekly Shonen Jump and the current lifetime sales don't include that as it contains other series as well, and only count the actual manga volumes.
One Piece as it stands probably has 5-10 years left (but that's an estimate based only on the fact it feels like there can't be many more arcs left as arcs are so long)
Also it's only like 7-10% filler, I just read a coloured version of the manga so I missed the filler but I've heard the first filler arc (G-8 arc) is good and the rest are skippable
i read the manga because i don't feel like reading subs. and i grew up in the 90s, so i lived through the dark ages of anime.

last statistic I saw (about 5 years ago now) was 10% of Japanese households read one piece. one piece is massive over there, more so than even dragonball and naruto.
The ironic thing for me is (I am a caught up manga reader) that I can't even be bothered too read/watch other recommendations (like the 8-12 episode series)
There is around 120 or so episodes of filler in 1000 anime episodes. You can easily skip all of them but some people will ask you to reach to one story in them because its really fun and really good
One Piece Is THE Best Anime No 🧢 And What Ties Me To It Is The Emotions It Has Made Me Feel And Is Still Making Me Feel. The Loads Of Episodes Is Probably Why It Is Great, Since You Get To Know The Characters In Depth And Are Able To Back Them And Love Them Or Go Against Them Without Any 2nd Guessing.
Up to you on whether to watch One Piece Filler, but it is Built Different. For the most part, a casual viewer wouldn't notice they were watching filler at all.
Watch the foxy and the G8 fillers though. Theyre really good

I would recommend watching "why you should watch/read one piece" also by super eyepatch wolf. Also recommend "explaining the one piece world | one piece 101" by the grandlinereview
yeah i see why people dont want to watch 1000+ episodes, but its that much cause the story is that good, they have tons of buildup for a big fight, which means that the actual fight and victory mean so much more. There are also many huge mysteries that are tied into the story that have yet to really be explained and there are tons of fan theories about them.

Started One Piece at 9; I'am 25 now, What a jounrey, it's special to follow a serie for so long ! And don't worry, Oda the author said that it will end in approximately 5/7 years, and let me tell you, the material is set up at the beginning so it's not added content just for the sake of continuing!
Edit: About the fillers, I personnaly don't watch them when I'am watching the serie for the first times, except the few ones that preview a movie to come, there are lists you can check to know which filler are interesting. Fun fact, of the big three One Piece has the least fillers, around 90 for 1000 episodes, which is not a lot compared to Bleach or Naruto !
One very important thing we must keep in mind is that Superman Started in 1938 and Batman shortly after, whereas One Piece started in 1997... so in less than half the time it has outsold both of them, which in my estimation makes it the true GOAT. Plus neither Superman or Batman have whole cultures dedicated to them.
Most of the filler episodes doesn't even take 5 episodes, most are just comedy gold.... .. and the long serious ones are placed in between arcs so they never appear too intrusive...
Filler scenes are those you have to get used to.. think of it as dragonBall's looooooong yelling, still shots, and staring that takes up most of the episodes..
4KIDS was notorious for excessive censorship, if you were to watch a DUB, then Funimation would be the ones to go through, as they translated many Anime, including the icon that got many in the west into Anime, Dragon Ball Z. fun fact, at least 3 cast members from DBZ voices characters in One Piece, though one of them only starting voicing after the original DUB actor passed away.
I watch One Piece dubbed but both are great I have seen it subbed too. Over all its all up to you, I just have a favor for dubbed as I grew up with it but I enjoy it both ways.

In One Piece, If you don't know it's a filler then it won't feel like a filler because in early anime you would even get some canon information in the filler and in later part of the anime, fillers are only 3-4 episode long and are premises for the movies which helps you to decide where to watch the movies. I just come from a 5-hour video of a dude lecturing his friends on the world and plot of One Piece... And damn, he didn't even go in-depth on a lot of things.
The world seems so natural, it's easy to overlook how staggering and complex this world is, even when you know and advocate for it. I hardly realized the video was actually that long...

I personally only watch dub when I randomly find animes on RUclips. I enjoy them, but it's not like I care too much. Just some light entertainment. Could never watch dub on anything I am actually interested in and/or plan to watch.
But One Piece dub is so cartoony and over the top. It feels unnatural, and the Japanese voice actors are so so good! Luffy's voice actress knows what she is doing.
On sub vs dub in general. Few English VAs hit like Japanese VAs. There are some anime like Trigun or Cowboy Bebop where the English VAs do a great job, but those aren't the norm.
The two good fillers are the dragon one, I don't remember when it was, and the one with afro luffy. And the following episodes after skypie, but I don't know if that is filler or not, I haven't checked.

The sub is the way to go. The dub isnt terrible, but you cant really take them seriously, and it makes them seem a lot younger than they really are. Currently, hes 19, and the first ep to 516, hes 17

There aren't many filler episodes in One Piece, the main cause for filler is that many episodes will draaaaag on certain scenes from the manga and add filler scenes so the anime doesn't catch up. So it makes it pretty much impossible to truly avoid all the filler in the show
watch one piece with the original audio, it's deffinatly not the same experience dob because a lot of voice actors are really good at that and make some's tipes of voices, sound, japannese jokes with the sound, and it would be deffinatly not the same full one piece experience i think, example, the franky'suuuuuuuper, (it's something that a crew member always say) in japanesse will feel completely different if it is dob, or the brook's laugh, it is completly different the laugh from brook (the skeleton) it's very intresting and very well maked (it's like a yohohohohoho) but like he was crazy, there is a video where the originals voice actors says some words as their characters, you could react to it, it's very short, it's only 2 mns, and it will be very intresting if you react to it, the video's name is one piece voice actors -2019 [ One Piece Stampede ], soooo yep, it's a complete different experience the japanesse voice
One Pace ftw
I just watched all of One Piece last year from September to December. My take away from this series is yes it’s long but what if you watched 1 thing that’s good for a long period of time. The journey is amazing, an abundance of likable characters, fire storytelling where Oda will place certain details that’ll show up later on in the story, the callbacks to certain situations that happened a long time ago that you may have forgotten or had in the back of your mind. It’s peak world building out of the Big 3. I kinda wish I watched it growing up but the 4kidstv version really made me hate it growing up. Overall if you’re looking for great storytelling then it’s worth the watch.
