What wasn't mentioned is that you want to use the saltines WITH the salted tops AND, to heighten the taste sensation, (as you start placing those on the pan) place the salted side DOWN on your sheet pan.
I have been making this since my kids were little and my son still requests it every Christmas - he's 16 now. I just made some yesterday! It's the BEST!! (fyi if you don't have nonstick spray, you can use parchment paper and it won't stick)
Pretzels are a must, in my opinion - the sweet + salty is to die for!! (I break up the pretzels into small pieces & sprinkle them on top of the crack! Over time, have found crack with pretzels to be the favorite/most popular)… Also, add some “Christmasy” sprinkles, just to make it more festive!! 😊

I have a Jewish friend who makes this with Matzoh and she gave me the recipe. It is easier to spread the caramel and chocolate on a sheet of Matzoh than it is on small squares of crackers that keep moving around. Although using crackers is much easier to break up into serving pieces. Also, sometimes it can be hard to find Matzoh at Christmas time because it is mostly available in April for Passover.

Thanks for the reminder cause I made these all the time when my 5 boys were growing up. But the chocolate I used was 2 Hersey bars melted in the microwave n then spread over the carmel crackers n I would switch the different kind of nuts each time I made them. I also made no bake chocolate cookies that r out of this world. I'm in my 80's now n I don't do that much cooking anymore but I can still see my boys enjoying this homemade treat. Merry Christmas to you n family.
An easier way to do the caramel is to put 2 sticks of butter sliced, 2 cups of packed light brown sugar and put it into the microwave for 2 minutes. Carefully ( it will be very hot) take the mixture out of the microwave and stir well. Mix 2tsp of baking soda into the mix to take care of the foamy look and more like caramel. Mix well. Place back into the microwave for 2 minutes and again carefully remove from the microwave and mix well again and it's ready to use in your recipes. We use it mostly for caramel corn.
My granddaughter and I are going to make this today. She's 10 and was thinking, butt crack. Then tells her Mom we're in the kitchen making crack. I'm excited to put this in the treat baskets we give. Thank for sharing.
My friend who is a realtor sent me this recipe on a postcard. I loved the video & appreciate all of the details! Now I can make it with confidence! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas! ❤️🎄
I made the Christmas Crack and it was a total hit. I used a whole bag of the semi sweet mini chicolate chips and they melted beautifully. For Christmas, and my grandkids, I sprinkled a part of it with green and red sprinkles. It was so Christmasy. Thanks for sharing. 🤗
Oh my goodness I wrote you earlier and told you my sister and I made your Christmas crack and it is wonderful and I made it the way you do. Even my husband was raving about it. I do believe I am going to have to make more Thanks again
Made this today and wow! I too added a bit of sea salt and vanilla and it’s delish. My favorite has nuts on top although the peppermint bits I put on some made it have festive look.
Do you have any tips for storage and freshness? Do the crackers go stale? I've never seen or heard of this until now and am gonna try it tomorrow. Looks delish!
I have tried several similar recipes, but this is the only one that came out perfectly. I think it was the butter/ sugar ratio being 2:1. The other recipes used equal amounts of each and it never seemed like the sugar completely dissolved. Your recipe with the explicit directions was perfect; thanks so much!! Can’t wait to make the next batch.
When I saw Christmas Crack, just had to comment. Up north we have been making that toffee for many years. Now as far as "CRACK" which my daughter in law named it, this is 2 bags hulless popcorn that you mix with a few ingredients such as : bring to boil 2 sticks butter or margarine, 1/2 cup light Karo, 2 cups brown sugar. Bring to boil 5 min, take from heat then add 1/2 tsp baking soda, stir till frothy. * before you start pan of sauce, get a large disposable deep aluminum pan from dollar store with handles, spray well, pour your bags of popcorn in, then when sauce is frothy, pour over and mix well. In 250° oven for 1 hour, taking out to stir well every 15 min. When time is up put into bags and watch everyone devour this "CRACK" you'll forget about yours and start a new tradition, I promise you!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing how to make this. I've wanted to make and now I will for sure to give along with my cookie gift boxes for my neighbors, plus my family will enjoy. You are a joy to watch because you are happy & energetic daily. 😀
I am also a Christmas Crack addict..... it's soooo good! It's become a tradition in our home as well. Great video, thanks for taking the time to make it!!
copied the recipe & definitely make it this year. Sounds so delish & not too sweet as I like it. Will be making some for all my loved ones as gifts & to serve as desert also. Thank you so much & can't wait to try this.
Simply one of the best tutorials. Made another batch just now to bring these and other cookies over to a nearby homeless shelter. All bagged up with Xmas stickers holding the clear bags closed and basket looks so festive. Will be making another batch for family later on. Thank you very much for the great video. Happy Christmas!!
I made two batches so far. Love it. Thanks for doing this video. Your instructions were easy to follow. I am bringing this to my son's first Thanksgiving at his new home. I'm sure he will love it. It will be a new family tradition for us. Thanks again!
I have a client that would bring me a plate every Christmas. I finally got her recipe and have been making it myself for many years. We use club crackers and a mixture of semisweet and butterscotch chips, topped with pecans. To die for!!❤
*THANK YOU! I will make this soon.* I serve the homeless and those in need. I will make this for them this season. I won't be calling it "crack" though, LOL, LOL! Thanks for sharing a great video. Your speech is awesome, your kitchen is clean, your directions and ideas are wonderful and your editing is desirable. Lots of work to share with all of us and I appreciate it. I love this recipe, easy and it looks so good! God bless you and those you love. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Peace and Joy, Lynne🍃💜✝️💜🍃
One of my coworkers husband used to make this the Christmas Crack every year! So good!!!! My mother and I always make old fashioned hard candy at Christmas! It’s one of my favorites
Yum! I'd LOVE to make old fashioned hard candy like we had when I was little. My grandma called it "stained glass candy" because she would make it in so many pretty clear colors. Any chance you would share your recipe here in the comments? Thanks! ☺️

Sitting here in tears watching this. I am an American living in Scotland and my Mama used to make this Christmas Crack every Christmas. She has been gone for 23 years now and I have lived in Scotland for 28 years. You have brought back so many happy memories, hence the tears. Sadly I am unable to get saltines over here, so I won’t be able to make it until I get home next summer…so will be doing a Christmas (crack) in July! Lol I never knew the recipe, as Mom always made it and promised to write her recipe down but just never got around to it. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your Christmas crack recipe! I am going to be dreaming of it until next summer lol. I might try this with water crackers to see if it works with them in the meantime lol. Merry Christmas to you and your family and I wish you all the best for 2023! ❤🎄
@@missmayflower Thank you. Sadly, ours doesn’t. We are in the Highlands and it is a very small one. I was delighted and excited when they began carrying sourdough bread lol. I even tried doing an online order to get things our local shop doesn’t carry, to deliver to the shop as they do not deliver to our local area…but each time, they say the items were unavailable. When we travel down south I get excited to find products in Tescos there that ours does not carry. The big one down in Inverness is AMAZING! Ours has a tiny “International” section that is more Asian inspired, with Japanese, Chinese and even Indian products, the closest they have to an American section are the big international brands of juices (Tropicana, Ocean Spray, and Innocent lol). We are going down to Glasgow in Nov so I will keep a look out, thank you for the suggestion! Ohhh an Italian brand of Saltines? I will keep an eye out for them too. I order online from a family run Italian shop, I will see if they carry them or if they can get them in. Thanks again and btw I love your yt handle! 😀
@@cindyedmonds8878 I am so sorry I missed your reply!! Thank you for the suggestions! I can get Ritz crackers over here and will most definitely give those a try, thank you! I never even gave them a thought! ❤
Easy to make this vegan. I used coconut sugar and miyoko's vegan butter. Mini chocolate chips melt down faster, making for a really easy spreading consistency, and a metal icing spatula did the trick. I didn't realize my sheet pan was smaller and was happily surprised that with just the right technique I could use my chef's knife to cut the final row of saltines to size. This was a very sweet treat that I couldn't really eat very many of, but folks really enjoyed it. Made pumpkin-spiced chopped pecans for the topping, and that was a nice fall/Thanksgiving kind of vibe. Thanks for the recipe!

I just made this for the 1st time. I used salted butter and a mix of light and dark brown sugar. Also added a tsp of vanilla to the caramel mixture just before pouring onto the crackers. I sprinkled toasted slivered almonds onto the melted milk chocolate and then sprinkled coarse sea salt on top. It was fabulous! Not too salty at all. Like salted caramel toffee. 😋

Thank you. I made it for the first time, I think I didn't cook the caramel enough and could not make it to all the edges. I used milk chocolate, had some honey roasted peanuts, i chopped them and sprinkled them on and some Christmas sprinkles. Chopped up the crack, brought it to a party, I brought an empty plate home

How would I do a pretzel base? The stick pretzels spread evenly across the sheet pan? Then pour the Carmel over the pretzels? Ok I think I answered it myself
@@marlenejones6266 we did it with pretzel flats, though my toffee to pretzel ratio was about twice as much toffee as she is showing, which I think made it easier to cover the pretzels.

I also made no bake chocolate cookies that r out of this world. I'm in my 80's now n I don't do that much cooking anymore but I can still see my boys enjoying this homemade treat. Merry Christmas to you n family.
I would love to know how you made no bake cookies - that would be great for the summer time.
you make this look so easy. thanks for the "follow the directions completely" note. this makes all the difference.
You’re so welcome. Enjoy!
That’s easier thanks
I've heard all my life, it's called a rolling boil. It starts to boil rolling inwards.
@@i.s.winnin yes it's called rolling boil.
My granddaughter and I are going to make this today. She's 10 and was thinking, butt crack. Then tells her Mom we're in the kitchen making crack. I'm excited to put this in the treat baskets we give. Thank for sharing.
Hilarious!!!!!!!! 🤪
My friend who is a realtor sent me this recipe on a postcard. I loved the video & appreciate all of the details! Now I can make it with confidence! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas! ❤️🎄
I am so making this today, thanks for sharing Renee!!! I love the look on Pollux face,it was so cute!!! He was like, where is mine at mama!!!
LOL he loves the smell of Christmas Crack
I made the Christmas Crack and it was a total hit. I used a whole bag of the semi sweet mini chicolate chips and they melted beautifully. For Christmas, and my grandkids, I sprinkled a part of it with green and red sprinkles. It was so Christmasy. Thanks for sharing. 🤗
Oh my goodness I wrote you earlier and told you my sister and I made your Christmas crack and it is wonderful and I made it the way you do. Even my husband was raving about it. I do believe I am going to have to make more Thanks again
Someone in my house - not named - ate my saltines so I ended up using graham crackers and white chocolate chips. Delicious!
Did you add anything else? Nuts?
Made this today and wow! I too added a bit of sea salt and vanilla and it’s delish. My favorite has nuts on top although the peppermint bits I put on some made it have festive look.
Was thinking of adding the same exact things! Glad to know it came out good.😀
I’ve been making this since I was in high school, over 40 years. 😋
@@happyguy8770 I thought she used 1 cup of butter, which is 2 sticks, & 1 cup brown sugar, which is equal parts
Oh my Renee... looks so good. I hope the staff appreciate the effort you've made. They will all be watching your video's to get the recipe lol xxx
I'm giving the staff their Christmas Crack this weekend :)
21:17 WOW this sounds good too Sweetie, I'm adding this to my recipes too!!😋 Thank You and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!🎄
Hallelujah!! I found you again! I am so excited & thankful!!!!! 6:24
your dog is so funny...he hears the crackling of paper and knows there's food...lol I love dogs!
Your recipes never disappoint. Make your fruit salsa and cinnamon chips, always a hit!
This is the best. My girlfriend gave me this recipe 10 years ago!! Everybody will love it!!
This is my daughter and I's 1 and only Christmas tradition. Our toppings are pretzil sticks and drizzled melted white chocolate.
Well thanks for giving your recipe for Christmas crack to everyone I appreciate it you all have a Blessed and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year .
I make this every year for family … it’s my most requested treat ! I use chopped hershey chocolate bars and I don’t use toppings . Everyone loves it!
Great idea!!
copied the recipe & definitely make it this year. Sounds so delish & not too sweet as I like it.
Will be making some for all my loved ones as gifts & to serve as desert also. Thank you so much & can't wait to try this.
You are so fun and joyous!! Thank you for your hard work!!🥰🙏🥳🎄
Simply one of the best tutorials. Made another batch just now to bring these and other cookies over to a nearby homeless shelter. All bagged up with Xmas stickers holding the clear bags closed and basket looks so festive. Will be making another batch for family later on. Thank you very much for the great video. Happy Christmas!!
we also make it for every christmas & we call it cracker toffee 😊
I made two batches so far. Love it. Thanks for doing this video. Your instructions were easy to follow. I am bringing this to my son's first Thanksgiving at his new home. I'm sure he will love it. It will be a new family tradition for us. Thanks again!
I have a client that would bring me a plate every Christmas. I finally got her recipe and have been making it myself for many years. We use club crackers and a mixture of semisweet and butterscotch chips, topped with pecans. To die for!!❤
Oooo that sounds delish too!
Peace and Joy,

One of my coworkers husband used to make this the Christmas Crack every year! So good!!!! My mother and I always make old fashioned hard candy at Christmas! It’s one of my favorites
Yum! I'd LOVE to make old fashioned hard candy like we had when I was little. My grandma called it "stained glass candy" because she would make it in so many pretty clear colors. Any chance you would share your recipe here in the comments? Thanks! ☺️
I'd love to know how to make hard candy too! Would you share your recipe?
I have watched many videos on this candy and I just want to say, your's is the easiest to understand, especially the boiling part. Very good Thank You
Oh yay!! Thank you for letting me know 💗
I just made this Christmas Eve but I put like twice as many choc chips cause I just love the nice thick choc layer on top! You're right its soooo addicting!!
I just love your accent, i can tell you are a true southern lady! And your kitchen is beautiful
Aww, thank you! Southern hospitality at its finest!
"Christmas Crack!" 😂🤣😂🤣 Thanks for sharing the recipe and giving such a thorough demonstration!!! I think you should do more cooking videos!!! Love!
Yeah, what more can we attach to "Christmas" to diminish the meaning and sanctity of the Holy Day?

You can use Graham crackers or Ritz crackers if those are available
Tesco has an American section. There’s also an Italian brand of saltines.
I already made two batches! I’m addicted! So good! Thanks Renee for sharing!🤗
Thank you for posting the recipe in the description 😊 Love your vibe in all your videos!
I'm a Cali Born-Southern Belle Wedded, and my jaw is aching with yum visuon at watching this recipe thinking of alternatives to use!?
Flax Crackers, Whole Wheat Crackers, Special Internatiol Crackers.
Oh the Chocolate Choices!? The sky is the limit. For me - the darkest Chocolate :P Toping choices also dance with Chocolate choices! This must be put in my "Decadent Desert Heavent" RUclips folder. I am truly in Awe Lady ❤️ Love!
I honestly think 🤔 this deserves a nam change , like Christmas 🎄 Brittle !
It looks delicious 😋 I’m drooling 🤤, I can’t wait to make it .
Great Christmas gift 🎁, definitely make a batch and put inside a cellophane bag with a pretty bow 🎀.
👏🎄♥️🤗😊👍🎄♥️🎁
I just made this for the 1st time. I used salted butter and a mix of light and dark brown sugar. Also added a tsp of vanilla to the caramel mixture just before pouring onto the crackers. I sprinkled toasted slivered almonds onto the melted milk chocolate and then sprinkled coarse sea salt on top. It was fabulous! Not too salty at all. Like salted caramel toffee. 😋
That looks wonderful!! Thanks for the recipe!
I am so sorry for your loss of your fur baby. I am loving this project. I am excited to see how the school album is going to look like. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Your recipes never disappoint, will definitely try this one!
My sister and I just made this recipe for the first time looks and smells good. I will come back with a review after we taste it. But thanks your enthusiasm is very contagious. Keep up the wonderful work you do
Ooooo you are going to love it! I've made 5 batches of crack so far this season!
I just sent your recipe to my friend in New Jersey. I know she will love to make this with her kids!
This is very kid friendly easy to teach kids this recipe! Thanks for sharing this!
Made this and my son went crazy. Super delicious And easy. I was worried cuz I understood caramel was very difficult to make. Followed your directions and; PERFECTION !!! Thank you so much.
Yay!!! Woo hoo!
Ok it is now jan 23 and i have some left over peppermint candy canes. I promised myself i would not make christmas crack until next christmas because i could not stop eating it. I have just broken that promise and made some!
LOL 😂
I am making this tonight!!! Reason for watching you again!!! Thank you!!!
That looks so yummy, I love anything with chocolate, caramel and nuts and this has all three! I tried to concentrate on the video but all I could thing about was that the crackers fit the pan perfectly!! LOL Again I saw Pollux in the background making sure you didn't drop anything on the floor. He wants the kitchen floor to be clean! 🤣🥰
Love this video recipe, I’ve been making and watching this one for two yrs, thanksgiving and Christmas,,mine come out perfect ,, I’ve tweak it a little, it’s over a million views, AMAZING !!
Woman! You're killin' me...Lol! Now I'm gonna have to make this today! I've made homemade caramel lots of times in the past and am so familiar with the boil stages and I know how yummy your kitchen smelled while you were cooking that caramel. YUM!!! Happy Vlogmas Day
Love this! For those like me with no frig room if it's cold just sit it outside on your porch and let cool. 😅
Oh, man, Renee! Your husband is a lucky guy (as are P&M). Glad you guys were safe from the storms there!
awww thank so much Connor 💗
I have been threatning to make this delicious stuff for a while now and still haven't. But I'm going to now. I can't wait to make this....Thank you and God Bless you for this recipe.....
Family fav here for many years! We call it Christmas crack as well! Always make at least double batches, if not triple! Our topping is walnuts. It’s my one no limit treat every Christmas. 😊🥰🎄🎅🏻
I made 2 batches yesterday for gifts....and I can't stay out of it!!!! Like you....it's my one "no limit" treat at the holidays 😁
I always make chirstmas candy. I found this a few years ago and everyone loves it. I replaced the english toffee I used to make that took soo much longer. I use mini M&Ms, xmas sprinkles, crushed malted milk balls, etc. Love this stuff. I did have one of my grandkids teachers ask me about crack tho hahaha
Love the TITLE !!!
just found u...i dont think ill be dissappointed !!!!
I just made 2 pans for a Christmas Party tomorrow. I added Milk & semi sweet chocolate. butter finger pieces, coconut. Thank you for sharing.
the hidden blessing in this video was taking these shots every time she said crack
🤣
I am making this TODAY! They come out so nice. And yes!! I do have all of the ingredients at home. 🎄
Oh Yay! Prepare to be obsessed!
I have made this every year since you posted it! I absolutely love it and so does my family . Easy to make
Renee, your content is always so interesting, informative and entertaining! I like how you're always willing to share your recipes etc. I am 78 years old and I am all the way in the Caribbean, on the island of Jamaica! Oh, by the way, I'm such a fan of Pollux..he reminds me of a dog I used to have...Take care..💕🐕
Hey in Jamaica!!! Wish I was there today....it's cold and pouring down rain in Paducah. Yuck!
Where is Pollux today... I lost track.
You for got to tell us that you set the oven at 400°
I seen it on the back of the oven when you were pouring chocolate chips.
Thank you for sharing. My Grandkids are going to love it. 😊
Looks delicious. I’m going to make some this year for sure!! By the way…your curls are absolutely beautiful.
Glad I found this. First time batch in the waiting for fridge step.
I completely agree...this "crack" is delicious!!😋 It's been so long since I've made it and I'm definitely going to change that this year. It's also scrumptious with a pretzel base and or any kind of "chips" of your choice. From the peanut butter or butterscotch ones to M&M's or even the kitchen sink.😜LOL The possibilities are endless...have fun with your favorite combinations. Merry Christmas to everyone...Big ((Hugs)) from Texas!
I had it with saltine crackers before, but pretzel base sounds delicious.
I made my first batch of the season a few days ago.....I'm obsessed! Many more batches to come!
This recipe is so unbelievably easy!! I even used sugar free brown sugar truvia to make it sugar free!!
With Lily's sugar free chocolate chips also. The crack still turned out beautifully and is so yummy! The pan size 10 inch x 15 inch works the best.
I am so going to make this. I’m gonna get crack-a-lacking on it! Thanks Renee!!!!
🤣💝
I had never had Christmas crack until this year. I couldn’t stop eating it. Thanks for sharing the steps and tips.
Are you saying "Roaring Boil" deliberately instead of "Rolling Boil"? A Rolling Boil is when your liquid boils and gets all foamy like you said and you can't stir the boil down. In 60+ years of cooking I have never heard of Roaring Boil. Not trying to be mean, your recipe looks delicious and I am going to try it. ❤
@@tamilanemurray3749 I'm old, I was taught ROILING boil, but my daughters in law all say ROLLING. The way things change!
@pambatterman6154 I thought it may have been "Roiling" boil but my old home ec teacher and my mother used "Rolling" boil.
Yes, it is a “rolling boil” because the bubbles are rolling over each other continuously. That is the correct term.
