    when I make this, I use the Keebler Club crackers, since they have that buttery taste, I also cook pecan pieces in the butter/brown sugar mixture/ I agree - Ghirardelli chocolate chips bring it to a higher level

    I just made 3 batches by request for Thanksgiving at relatives house 3 hours away. We use matzoh and I prefer the lightly salted. I use a 12x16 cookie sheet pan with sides, line it with foil for minimal cleanup but then put parchment paper on top of the foil. I don’t have to spray it and the candy never sticks. I put a generous cup of chocolate chips on as soon as I take it out of the oven and in about 5 minutes I can easily spread the chocolate as the caramel has hardened a bit. One box of matzoh crackers will make 2 sheets with some leftover pieces. We call it matzoh crack. My husband already took 6 goodie bags to his coworkers plus one for himself. When breaking the pieces, I collect the crumbs and use them for ice cream sprinkles. I put layers into boxes and since it can still be warm in our area I place wax paper between the layers. The other family members use regular crackers but prefer the matzoh that I use.

      @@midcoastmunchies I think I'll make it! 🙂 A few quick questions though 1) is the treat not overly sweet? I'm a bit nervous about all of the brown sugar. I feel like it would be a sugar overload. 2) How much of a salt contrast does the cracker give? I feel like the only way this much sugar could be added together is if there was a decent contrast.
      Thanks!

    • @midcoastmunchies
      @midcoastmunchies  Год назад

      I use semi sweet chocolate and not too much of it, that helps balance it also as the chocolate starts to cool sprinkle a little extra coarse or flakey salt that would also help but it is a sweet 😋 so it will be sweet but I think it has a good balance especially with a little extra sprinkle of the salt

    But today I am going to try something different. I'm going to substitute the chocolate morsels with Butterscotch morsels . I do believe that this will work very well with the saltiness of the crackers . I also intend to make this recipe using Graham crackers. And once I have my Carmel base applied, Sprinkle with Sea Salt. Then use Peanut butter morsels for the top part. I anticipate that this version will be undeniably delicious ! I'm loving this Crack Candy recipe. It is so diverse and many versions can be made to your liking.

    Work with me here for a moment - I made this and it came out crunchy like a heath bar ( which I loved! ) but the smoke alarm kept going off from the oven. Right now I'm mobility impaired and hopping between fanning the alarm and the oven took its toll. Instead I would like to use a heat gun for embossing, they get really hot. If you are still with me and aren't rolling your eyes while you roll on the floor laughing at me, I truly would like your opinions!

    • @midcoastmunchies
      @midcoastmunchies  Год назад

      If it came out hard that would mean too hot or on the heat too long and definitely nothing should be smoking so I'd use half the heat and less time during any of those steps if you try it again

    You can also use graham crackers instead of saltines & add chopped nuts to the caramel layer.

    What is the best way to clean the pot?

    • @midcoastmunchies
      @midcoastmunchies  Год назад +3

      Fill it with hot water and let sit for 10 mins before cleaning, I use non stick pots for this type of thing if I can for easy cleanup, it all just slides right out leaving a clean pot!

    • @tastx3142
      @tastx3142 Год назад +1

      The candy should just be starting to pull away from the sides of the pot when it’s ready to spread on the crackers so not much is left in the pan. Do use a heat resistant spatula to remove it from the pan and spread it. I put water in right away with a squirt of Dawn and let it sit while the crack is in the oven. I put the chocolate chips on immediately and while those soften the pan easily cleans without scrubbing. I use a Calphalon anodized aluminum pot that isn’t nonstick but I imagine that stainless steel would clean as easily. It’s just butter and sugar so the sugar will dissolve or at least soften and the Dawn helps with the butter. I usually have just a few streaks of candy so if you have a lot you might have overcooked it.
