Correction at 7:00 - It didn’t actually take ND 7 years to develop The Last of Us Part II. While yes, it is true that they began working on Part 2 since 2013 they did so only with a small team which doesn't really count as full production. Part II when into full production between September-October 2017. So the development time took them little more than 3,5 years, if we are speaking more cohesively.
Not buying this at all. You get 10-12 years out of a PlayStation console generation. No way in hell they’re working on a game for ps6 to be released in 2030-2032 with zero idea of the capabilities of that system hahahahaha. They haven’t even released a true current gen game yet. It’s all remastered stuff from previous gens. It’s say (assuming/guessing) expect 2 naughty dog games within the next 3 years. One could be late 2025. One could be 2027.
It should last 10! This shit is expensive and so far this gen is lacking. And we know damn well that whatever the fuck they are working will end up being cross gen. If the PS4 is holding up this long into the next gen then so will the 5.
@@tylermartinmusic the pro specs that leaked are barely an upgrade on the base ps5. The big deal with the pro is Sony's version of frame generation. Thats good and all, but it isn't carrying this gen to 10 years. Sony has said themselves that the ps5 is in the back half of it's lifecycle. The ps4 gen only lasted 7 years and tech wasn't 8ncreasing as fast as it is now.
I can’t believe I bought a PS5 just to play some lacklustre sequel to god of war (IMO) and have Sony waste precious ND time to work on a battle pass game to make them more money 💰 This industry is becoming more and more spineless… How profoundly disappointing….
Agree with everything you’re saying. Considering the current trends, as well as everything we know about Naughty Dog that you spelled out, it’s difficult to see a new Naughty Dog game this generation. Having said that, you have to consider the tv show as well. Will they push to finish the game before the show? Will Sony pressure them release the game to coincide with the show to maximise profits (thus why a live service Last of Us game was so desirable)? Will working on the game and show stretch Druckman too thin, as the Last of Us seems to be his baby, so to speak? Will be interesting to see where this all goes. I trust Naughty Dog will end up with some amazing stuff, it just may require a lot of patience as fans.
Sony should let another studio under their umbrella use the Naughty Dog engine. I’ll never not be salty about the cancellation of factions, people kept saying let them cook and while we waited for our meal they took the order off the menu.
It's so disappointing! They should have added a basic sequal to Factions in the Part 2 Remaster. They knew the cancelation was coming, and it would have made the faithful Factions fans happy!
@@pixel8ted It’s sad that we can’t just get a $70 multiplayer, it just had to be a games as a service. What rubbed me the wrong way was when Naughty Dog acted like they didn’t know they would need to continue to work on the multiplayer after its release.. what a lie. They’ve made plenty of multiplayers for their games and after working on factions for 5-6 years they supposedly realized they would need to update it after its release just sounds incompetent or a lie.
its still utterly maddening that we will probably never even know what that game was going to be like. Nothing has leaked so far so I'm doubtful anything will. We were robbed of something probably utterly brilliant, and also robbed of the alternative which is the simple original Factions updated for part two. Rubbish ALL round.
They actually wanted since the PS2/PS3 days, but they couldnt, because their engine is so ridiculous optimized and sometimes only know by few people in the studio.
Why?! All 3 games are all already perfectly playable. Why are you people so insistent on wanting to pay for the same games with better graphics? It’s a complete waste of time when they can invest time and money in something new. So sick of remasters and remakes for things that haven’t even aged that much - it’s insane.
Do you people not get sick of ports, remakes, and remasters??? Like honestly dude. Lets start asking for new games not remakes/remasters of sh’t we’ve already played.

Hopefully this teaches Sony a lesson and this bs never happens again. I can’t believe they actually thought this was a good idea. Hiring new teams to make projects like that sure but taking your best devs and forcing them down this route is wildly dumb
Everything you said is right concerning The Last of Us as a series, but the new IP has definitely been in the works for a few years and will release in a few more years, towards the end of the PS5 lifecycle. TLOU3 will be a PS6 launch window game.
Well... Naughty Dog ALWAYS crunched unfarely their workers, allowing them to make masterpieces regularly. It seems now they've restructured and stopped crunching. This seems logical. In other hand, Rockstar hasn't and probably will NEVER stop crunching and abusing their workers, hence, why they still keep putting stuff out. I prefer playing games every 5 or 10 years like ND looks like to be headibg out now but with no human cost for me to play instead of more games but with dozens and dozens of people getting mentally broken.
They arent skipping this generation. Druckmann has said we'll see things soon from the new project. In the context of an advert to developers talking about the "next" game, they are talking about Dev cycles, no release cycles. The next game naughty dog make is 2 game releases down the path. They have 3 games in the oven.
I don't understand how no crunch has to = longer dev time. They could hire more people. Do a night shift. 3 shifts working around the clock. I know they probably won't do all that but no crunch doesn't need to automatically = longer dev time.
Don’t forget that part of the reason why tlou2 took 7 years was because Neil had to step in and essentially restart uncharted 4 after Amy Hennigs departure
departure, lol. there have been plenty of rumors that she was ousted by Druckmann and Straley because they couldn't see eye to eye with Hennig (who, mind you, created the Uncharted series)
A lot of people are still using their PS4 today, so my guess is that this will probably happen with the PS5 as well and Sony will still release those games in the older system. At least I know I won't be running to the store to buy a PS6 knowing what I know today.
That's a fair point, but they also didn't put the Part 1 Remaster on PS4 which 100% could have been done and was released earlier in the PS5's life cycle.
sooo, it wasn't 7 years, they halted production on tlou2 and went full studio on uncharted 4, so maybe 4-5 years. also, a good team with a good pre-production and better working conditions can be more effective and deliver things on a better state on schedule than a crunched one, so there's hope. all that being said. yeah, the reestructure of the studio, neil's involvement with the hbo show, factions and the dlc being canceled, the remake and the remaster, all of that for sure will impact the new projects, so i'm too kinda afraid that IF we get a ND game this generation, it will be very late indeed. if there's any playstation showcase this year and ND don't show up (game awards included), i believe that will be the case, unfortunately.
When they cancelled factions 2. Neil and the naughty dog team came out to basically say it was too much to focus on, both multiplayer and single player TLOU. So they made the choice to cancel Factions 2 to have full focus on TLOU part 3

Two things out of that documentary Neil said no more crunch and that nothing would be showed until they are 100% ready to go with the game. In the past they show trailers and gameplay before they even built the levels to hype people up. That’s fine and all but they show stuff they haven’t even finished yet and set deadlines that they couldn’t meet it out stress on everyone. The documentary shows how tough last of us 2 was on everyone there. They decided to put the fans on the back burner something they didn’t want to do knowing there be backlash but something they had to do to improve the work life of the studio. All we know is they are for sure working on something and I can grantee they will have one game released for the PS5 probably for the PS5 Pro in 2026 or 2027.
What I think is happening is. The new IP will come out in the next 2 years. And this job posting is for another game. And after that last of us 3 at the end of the ps5
That's crazy, no new Uncharted, TLOU, nothing new from Naughty dog. The worst part is that we got no new original IP on PS5 ! Sony only focused on live service crap.

The fact we got this generation launched in 2020 made both the consoles gigantically nerfed right at the start. Sony hasn't made any smart decisions lately. We're STILL waiting for a Bloodborne update almost 10 years later. True the longer they wait the more people will have lost interest in the series because there will be a blank few years with no Last of Us content. It makes sense to release it on PS5. 3 generations, 3 games.
It would prolly be woke crap anyways. Hopefully by the next generation we have stopped acting like pathetic box ticking pandaing snowflakes and the devs can actually make a good game
I would actually *encourage* them to shoot for the PS6. (though I hope they also release a PS5 version) As much as I would like to play sooner, I really think they should take their time...especially with the crunch concerns...let the wait be worth it without overworking their people.
I think they definitely have a story down and I think production began a while ago than what they are letting on, and Naughty Dog are smart, there is no way they will skip an entire generation of consoles without a game nevermind a Last of Us. I would say they want to release the Last of Us 3 by the end of the PS5 life cycle as its been a standard procedure for the past 2 releases. But I just hope the game turns out well. But there's no way they would skip it. And the money they can make by having another HBO season from it aswel. Great video ❤
It's like given a drug that you become dependent on and all in a sudden its been withdrawn! Whit the Naughty Dog's Uncharted series I got so super hooked that I played all of them like countless time as I love them to bits ... Same goes for Last of Us 1 and 2 + Remastered ... I only play single player games and most are Naughty Dog. I say this to Naughty Dog and Sony, respect those that love this chain of games and give us an Uncharted 5 and a Last of Us 3 please.
They are working 2 games so no. One has been in development for 2-3 years and the other one is early. Neil and many "known" names etc never worked on factions and they haven't been doing nothing for 4 years.
According to Neil, he's been busy working on the Tommy DLC that got canned, and then has been focusing on how to get rid of crunch in Naughty Dog and TLOU HBO show. It's possible they have something up their sleeve, but it's also possible that between that and Factions 2, they don't. Considering that TLOU 2 took 7 years to make WITH crunch, it would seem likely that if the PS5 is done in 2027, then their next project will probably launch on PS6. Even if they're 2 years into development, 2027 is 3 years away. Again, TLOU 2 took 7 years to complete with crunch, so I just don't see how that would make a PS5 release. I hope it does though!
@@pixel8ted The Tommy thing was never in production. He just wrote it before release of Part 2 and instead focused on fxing crunch. Neil has teased the game he's directing for like 3 years on his twitter bio already. Trust me they're making 2 games (just as before but since factions got canned another has now started) In those 7 years they also made TLOU Remastered, Uncharted 4 and Uncharted The Lost Legacy. They didn't work fully on Part 2 until after Uncharted 4 (aside from writing and the teaser trailer for Part 2)
The time it takes to develop games these days concerns me, especially when thinking about the PS6. We might have to wait until the console is 4 or 5 years old before we start seeing games truly designed for it. I believe Naughty Dog will manage to release at least one game for the PS5, but I doubt they’ll produce more than that. .
Don't think that sony themselves allow their top studio to skip this generation entirely. ND probably gonna release that new ip game in the end of ps5 life cycle
A comment I’ve not been seeing is the clues around the alignment of the TV show. If Part 2 occurs over 2 seasons and the first of these is early next year with the following in 2026 or 2027; that would possibly indicate that part 3 could drop around then to give the show time to write part 3?
there might've been 7 years between last of us games, but that doesn't mean it took them that long to make part 2. uncharted 4 came out in 2016. they did a whole other game before starting on last of us 2.
I think that working on a project that get canned is demoralizing. Imagine you work for a project for a year or two. And then it gets slided and diced. It must destroy the confidence of the creators.
They needed a long break after dropping multiple masterpieces in there genre. They said it best, they will want to work on a new franchise and I heard it was gearing into sci-fi genre.
I think this could the senior producer position could potentially (or rather, hopefully) be for the new IP that has been mooted as coming out. Fingers crossed TLOU3 is still progressing.
If you Look into TLOU part 2. Naught dog hints a IP, in ruined dev studio in TLOUS 2, there drawing and screen shots of Fantasy dragons type game. It’s been rumoured this is IP naughty dog is actually working on. Naughty dog isn’t ignoring ps5. That’s kinda bs. Consider they did both remaster of TLOU 1 & Part 2 got native ps5 version. We’ve seen naughty dog do this before. When TLOU 1 was only on ps3. Ps4 and then it got version. At the time they honed there knowledge of ps4 to get ever bit of performance and quality out of ps4 hardware. Then they did same thing for ps5 and native version for it. Not everybody agreed we needed it but I understand why they did it. So again to say they ignored ps5 is bullshit and not the truth. Chances are they are working on new IP and TLOU part 3.
@@tetrastreamxvii are you saying the studio behind classics like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Uncharted and The Last Of Us don't make good games? ... WTF
Just because a game has online multiplayer doesn't mean it has to have seasons and a stupid battle pass that goes on forever. That's such BS that game devs think that's how it gas to be. IT DOESN'T. Make an online mode add some maps and z couple of new things to it every so often and your good.
well there's been no new game for 5 years now, a cancelled multiplayer and no new games on the horizon. I think its fair to say there's a bit of an issue
Made TLOU 14 times; that includes TLOU 2 cus aint shit was added to that game, damn near same gameplay, same creatures, same weapons. Lame as hell, 7 year gap with no advancements. And didn’t even come with factions smfh
What were they going to make? They destroyed the TLoU franchise with part 2, and ended Uncharted. Another Crash Bandicoot game? LOL. They need a better engine anyway - open world with land, sea, and air vehicles. Then we'll see how good they actually are at coding gameplay - I'm dubious.
Just like Naughty Dog, I'm skipping this generation too. The lack of games, forcing us to only play live service, controllers with unfixable drift issues, etc... SCREW THAT! I'll stick with the PS4 and hope for better next generation, this one sucks!!!
The state of Naughty Dog is worrying but I think they’ve realigned themselves after the Factions 2 debacle. They now know exactly where they want to focus their efforts rather than wasting it on something they weren’t entirely sure of. In the Grounded 2 documentary they also mentioned to not only eliminate crunch, but to scale back the size of their games considering how large Part 2 was. I’m confident we’ll see something from them this generation but it’ll probably only be one game. If they hadn’t wasted their time on Factions 2 we probably could’ve seen a Part 2 DLC but sadly that seems to have been scrapped. At the very least I’m still excited to see what they have been working on. It’s Naughty Dog, they’ll deliver.
Dude the idea of speculating Part 3 coming in 2027 blows my mind considering that's the time span Part 2 was from the original. I swear I remember playing part 2 at launch like it was yesterday.
It didn't leave PS5 in a dire state. It left Sony in a dire state. This will be the last Sony console I ever own. If Sony is smart, they should go 3rd party from here on out.
What's interesting is for TLOU 2, they hired seasonal producers so this doesn't hold much merit, especially considering they're supposedly working on two seperate projects.
Considering how few games the PS5 has got since its release - I think it makes financial sense to extend the life cycle of PS5 to give players more games for this console generation, before bringing out the PS6. Otherwise everyone will turn on them and sales of the PS6 will suffer as a result from consumers who felt dissatisfied with the lack of PS5 games and thus lose trust on purchasing another brand new gen console so quickly
A new factions not being done is a great loss for me. I was never on board with the season/fortnite structure, but an updated factions similar to the first one would be awesome. Mostly to have the community come together, crossplay maybe. Peak
They can use the same engine as the remaster/remake yea? They have assets for urban, rural, environments, infected, NPCs, so that should save A LOT of time I'd imagine? Just need some new voice lines and new character designs/mo-cap?...🤔

Bruh what's wrong with your face
Not buying this at all. You get 10-12 years out of a PlayStation console generation. No way in hell they’re working on a game for ps6 to be released in 2030-2032 with zero idea of the capabilities of that system hahahahaha. They haven’t even released a true current gen game yet. It’s all remastered stuff from previous gens. It’s say (assuming/guessing) expect 2 naughty dog games within the next 3 years. One could be late 2025. One could be 2027.

Considering they are planning 3 seasons for Part 2, I'd imagine Part 3 releases sometime after that!
A multiplayer mode for Last of Us2 and Spiderman is precisely what those games need IMO
Yep!

Totally agree!
They arent skipping this generation. Druckmann has said we'll see things soon from the new project. In the context of an advert to developers talking about the "next" game, they are talking about Dev cycles, no release cycles. The next game naughty dog make is 2 game releases down the path. They have 3 games in the oven.
i wouldn't trust their word at all after all the dodgy communication since 2019
Took me a min to realize what the music was. Cool putting that in here

Let's hope they can do it sooner!
departure, lol. there have been plenty of rumors that she was ousted by Druckmann and Straley because they couldn't see eye to eye with Hennig (who, mind you, created the Uncharted series)
A lot of people are still using their PS4 today, so my guess is that this will probably happen with the PS5 as well and Sony will still release those games in the older system. At least I know I won't be running to the store to buy a PS6 knowing what I know today.
That's a fair point, but they also didn't put the Part 1 Remaster on PS4 which 100% could have been done and was released earlier in the PS5's life cycle.
sooo,
it wasn't 7 years, they halted production on tlou2 and went full studio on uncharted 4, so maybe 4-5 years.
also, a good team with a good pre-production and better working conditions can be more effective and deliver things on a better state on schedule than a crunched one, so there's hope.
all that being said.
yeah, the reestructure of the studio, neil's involvement with the hbo show, factions and the dlc being canceled, the remake and the remaster, all of that for sure will impact the new projects, so i'm too kinda afraid that IF we get a ND game this generation, it will be very late indeed.
if there's any playstation showcase this year and ND don't show up (game awards included), i believe that will be the case, unfortunately.

Trust me they're making 2 games (just as before but since factions got canned another has now started)
In those 7 years they also made TLOU Remastered, Uncharted 4 and Uncharted The Lost Legacy.

A comment I’ve not been seeing is the clues around the alignment of the TV show. If Part 2 occurs over 2 seasons and the first of these is early next year with the following in 2026 or 2027; that would possibly indicate that part 3 could drop around then to give the show time to write part 3?
Part 2 has been said by Neil will be done over the course of 3 seasons! I do think it will somehow align with Part 3 release though.
They should make tlou3 using same engine as part 2 as part 2 looked and played fantastic. Surely that would save them time?
My guess is it'll be using Part 1 remasters engine!
there might've been 7 years between last of us games, but that doesn't mean it took them that long to make part 2. uncharted 4 came out in 2016. they did a whole other game before starting on last of us 2.

A new factions not being done is a great loss for me. I was never on board with the season/fortnite structure, but an updated factions similar to the first one would be awesome. Mostly to have the community come together, crossplay maybe. Peak
Could have been cool!
@@pixel8ted Ngl, I could die happy with just a reskin of the original being added to Tlou Part 1.
They can use the same engine as the remaster/remake yea? They have assets for urban, rural, environments, infected, NPCs, so that should save A LOT of time I'd imagine? Just need some new voice lines and new character designs/mo-cap?...🤔
The engine has been the same since the first Uncharted game. It's just be upgraded over the years for the next generation of PlayStation.
It should help shave some time, but not much! TLOU isn't Pokemon.
Just Remaster the Remaster, sorry, the "Remake".
Microsoft buys up half the gaming industry and still doesn’t have a SINGLE game good enough to convince people to buy an Xbox.
And Sony has made incredible single player titles the last few years and decides….
*to fuck it all up by making a game like Concord, and cancelling a multiplayer experience that could’ve been great* (Uncharted multiplayer was really fun)
I hate microtransactions and battle passes as much as the next guy, but at this point I don’t care if they exist if the live service game is GOOD. In the mid to late 2010’s the issue was all of the greed and micro transactions, and now the issue is that major studious and publisher can’t even make a good game. AND the bad games are flooded with money grabs…. Insanity
Hopefully future game engines and AI allow games to be made quicker, easier, with less money and less developers required- so smaller studios can deliver the games that we expected to have back when we were playing PS3 and 360 wondering what games would be like 10-15 years from now
It's a wild time!
I’m kind of new to console gaming, and have a ps4. Does this mean that The Last of Us III or whatever new IP Naughty Dog is developing would not go to the ps4? Am I just out of luck owning an old console?
There is 0 chance it'll be on PS4!
@@pixel8ted Yikes. Hopefully by the time the game releases the ps5 will be more affordable. It’d really suck to not be able to play a Part III after the first two were my two favorite games of all time.
You have to consider that between the first TLoU and the 2nd, there was a brand new uncharted as well as remasters of the older ones. It wasn't simply focus on just TLoU
I'm hoping Sony saved all these first party games to show off once the Pro comes out. The install base is going to skyrocket after GTA6 releases. More consoles means their games can sell more units.
Let's hope!
Maybe it's just hope speaking, but I think they will surprise us with a trailer for TLOU3 sooner than expected and I can't imagine them not wanting to release it at the tail end of this generation. They probably have been working on the bones of this game for a while now, would be weird if they didn't.
Let's hope!
As someone who's owned every Playstation at launch , the ps5 is the only one I regret buying. The controller features are awesome , but almost no games utilize them. Oh wait... what games?
Hopefully we start getting more now that they're done pursuing games as a service stuff!
Astro bot and demon souls were the only ones that used the full capablities. Shame that its rare though

@@Leonkennedy19992 you din't feel the haptic feedback while spiderman 2?
I've been saying since before Tlou Online was formally canceled that naughty dog wasn't dropping this gen, and I've been ridiculed every time
Let's hope they're able!
@@pixel8ted i just don't see it. With a new workplace cultural shift that prevents crunch and overworking, coupled with the development hell they seem to be in getting a new ip off the ground, it just looks to be too tall a task to bring it all together and get a game out the door before the generation wraps up. All the wasted man hours and resources that went into the canceled project doesn't help matters either. We shall see. Id love to be wrong
i think that the problem is that sony really did put all of their eggs in the live service basket and saw the backlash of it and its gonna cost them the ps5s life i really hope they prioritize the ps6 and go back to story based games which sony has built their fanbase off of
Totally!
I'm glad they didnt make a online game unless they make online open world game that you can travel the game and not have to go into room to travel
