  • After buying some Atlantic 75 45 rpm reissues, I've spent some time remembering albums that I'd bought for cheap and sounded incredible. I want to bring them to your attention in the hope that you follow suit and we can all benefit from it and build more profitable vinyl collections.
    I tried to conver different genres, musical tastes and countries of provenance.

    "Crime of the Century" is Supertramp's artistic peak in my opinion. Not just because of the music, but also the production values. Few popular music albums have the dynamic range this one has. I've never heard the Speakers Corner version, which gets a lot of praise, but I've heard the MFSL version and I definitely don't like it. The guys at MFSL tried hard to make an already great-sounding album sound even better, and failed. I have an original UK pressing which, BTW, is one of the thinnest/lightest records in my collection, and one of the best-sounding as well.

      Thanks for your input. Saves me the trouble of going after the MFSL. Yes, the Speakers Corner is a great version, but the 1st UK or Eu version don't fall behind. As I said, I bought it when it came out but nowadays, I wouldn't fork out the cash it goes for . I find it insane.

    Greetings from Austria! RUclips randomly recommended me this video and I am glad I didn't skip it. I wanted to thank you for such a lovely video! I am very new to vinyl records and was a bit overwhelmed by all the options as well as price/condition hunt, and your video helped me to find a few affordable old releases in mint (supposedly?) condition that are exactly what I was looking for to start my collection with.

      That's exactly what I had in mind when I opened this channel. We'd be much better off if we shared our scores instead of drooling over some reissues which, sometimes, and to my ears, are overrated. But that's me, of course. Others may disagree. Thanks for your input.

    That Buddy Holly record was a big deal when it was released because it was a recently discovered tape of recordings thought to be lost. Good score

    Wonderfull, i find some cheep records that sound amazing too , 50's & 60's mono surprise me how the quality of recordings were, and as i've up graded Hi Fi , it great to re-visit these albums

      Yes, a time when things were made to last. I've got a UK second pressing of Please Please Me (1963) I bought in VG condition, full of hairlines, fingerprints and whatnot and there's only the odd crackle between tracks. Not a single tick or pop when the music overrides background noise. Sounds like you're in the studio with the band. On the other hand, some modern reissues start sounding funny after a couple of listens...

      when you say sound funny ? worn out allready, or lacking sound stage ?

    • @obre9523
      @obre9523  7 месяцев назад +2

      No. You start getting ticks and pops that weren't there in the first place. Lack of quality control. Thanks for your interest@@LyndonSoulGroove

    Hello from New Zealand. Like you i enjoy soundtracks and have many. The Trainspotting and Snatch movie soundtracks are cool. I like Linda Ronstadt and own a copy of her hits album too. I agree with you on the sound quality. Supertramps album Crime of the Century is a classic. Their album Breakfast in America sold by the truckload in 1979. I love Roxy Music and had their albums in the 1970s. I like For your Pleasure 1973, Country Life 1974, Siren 1975, Manifesto 1979. and Bryan Ferrys solo albums Lets stick Together 1976, and In your Mind 1977 are good. His 1980s album Boys and Girls is worth a listen too. Im old enough to remember 1960s Motown music on the radio, and the Supremes were excellent . Thanks for your video from Carl.

    You have what many consider to be the best crime of the century with the speakers corner and also the Uk. The MFSL is said to be behind those two pressings. I’m trying to pick up a UK original but I’m looking for a NM copy with ‘reasonably’ decent vinyl.

    Is that a UK or US pressing? The US pressing has TML in the runout groove, the UK pressing has MELYS (handwritten) in the runout grooves.
