The Analogue Production 45RPM of “Elvis is Back” is dynamic, super quiet, and fantastic. Elvis is in the room, but in a good way. Totally worth the release price of $65.
For my money Crime Of The Century is a perfect album. Supertramp did an excellent job on it. No filler and every song is outstanding. I love the album to death. I think the master tape is awesome so that you can hear every detail when the vinyl pressing is well done.
agreed, my favorite Supertramp album and the only i got ,the cover is all cutted but the record still sounds new the vibration on the guitar strings isn´t heard on the cd version neither the perfect distortion in the chords of bloody well right, but all is a fantastic sounding Lp and from 1976
yes i refer to it often as the cd sounds not like the record which is perfect to me , was the first time i enjoyed in total a supertramp lp with a perfect sound either than this , only like maybe 5 to six songs in all studio records ,i have the record in perfect condition but the cover of being handled so many times it´s all cutted on the sides even the inner sleve with the lyric´s is all cutted , one day i saW A REMAsTERED VERSION OF THE album on cd,SO I BOUGHT IT IN A TIME THAT I THOUGHT CDS WERE IMPROVED BUT IT DOESN´T SOUND LIKE THE LP SOUNDED and I ALWAYS GIVE THE EXAMPLE OF THE GUITARS IN "BLOODY WELL RIGHT " SOUND A LOT DIFERENT FOR THE WORST and the levels are wrong, SORRY FOR THe caps lock it activates when it feels like to, wireless chinese keyBOARDs it only lasTED 5 YEARS WORKING perfect ,nOw it FAILS WHENEVER HE WANTS, have to look for my old wire keyboard, the only problem is that i have a tower with improved HD board for the image and a better dac or sound board for music listening ,but it´s next to the tv ,so i can´t use it while seating in my Sofa
Mr. Framer from sterophile sold off his US/UK first pressing collection. He replaced it all with Japanese (heard/read it was better). Then he realised they mix differently (or used to) because in Japan people literally live in very close proximity with thin (sometimes wooden) walls. So the Bass was often restricted. A few top collection records are being reissued in the 45rpm format. This also makes a huge difference. For normal period 80's 33rpm stuff the Hanza label is very good quality. Some of the best records to test your gear with will be 80's 12 inch 45rpms, one of my favorites for this is Madonna's Live to tell. It is will give you goose bumps on a good system.
i never played that record isn´t quality music allthough i respect others taste as some also like George Michael or Celine Dion or Lady Gaga, the movie was okay but i really don´t like many madona songs, i remenber hearing Borderline or...i really don´t remenber the name but it´s one of those songs that when you return home after work they use to play them in the radio , i do love the discussion in the begining of Reservoir Dogs about like a virgin , spot on
@@RUfromthe40s The Madonna tracks were very well engineered and the vinyl also usually top notch. The music will always be pop but just like Thriller etc.. very well produced.
You’re right any CD sounds better than that. I understand some people like the sound of vinyl which is fine. I did for years and spent $ on high quality equipment and pressings until CDs in the late 80s. Nothing like a good gatefold with inserts and a nice sleeve etc. Now I’m streaming and getting top quality streamers and DACs to connect to my systems. I still buy reissues with CDs, vinyl and BlueRay but I’ve moved on as the technology has evolved. Pick whichever source you enjoy. So many great ways to enjoy music. It’s a great time to be a music lover especially if you can afford equipment and sources that sound good to you without having to sacrifice the basic necessities of life. Rock on!

We should always remember, that most remasters and remixes, are done purely to lengthen the life of product, and play into the hands of audiophiles. I'm not saying that ppl are stupid, but we fell in love with the albums in their original state, on whatever format we heard them on. And we didn't care about "hearing an instrument that wasn't high enough in the mix" 50 years ago. We're at the whim of the artists who are rarely satisfied, and record companies whose wallets, are never full enough. Think twice, it's not alright.
@@obre9523i totally agree, yet to find one , old albums passed into cd lost all sound like levels are wrong ,as an example guitars don´t sound like the original guitar sound and far in the back on the digital version
As a general rule , I have stopped buying the live vinyl lps of Grateful Dead and WSP because when I wanna hear a live show I don’t wanna have to flip 5 discs, the CDs sound just fine.😊
that´s true but only for some titles as the Dream Syndicate - live at the raji´s it was recorded directelly into DAT and the records sound perfect even from digital masters but after some years bought the cd and it sounded horrible compared to the record as the cd had more songs but i don´t like all songs but a few of them are pefect to me and live it sounds like if we were there, but in record ,no matter if one has the better cd players available the sound remains very far from the record sound at least the original one when released, 1990 but not sure now , Nocturne from Siouxie & the Banshes is another good example of the record sounding very god even in direct listening while the cd sounds very bad, but most of the live albuns are not so well sounding , only the old Peter Gabriel Plays Live also sounds amazing good in record, others sound bad, the live album from Ozzy Osborne in homage to the guitar player that died in a plane crash next to Ozzy´s house in the countryside ,Randy Roads sounds a lot better in CD as others too, there was doble Lp´s that used to came in hi-fi magazines that most of the people in the world had them like Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel -live in central park or Rod Stewart - Absolutelly live and also Peter Frampton play´s live, this in late 80´s , this last sounds very good in record as the studio versions of the songs are a bit old sounding, but only because people heard them more played live
1-I'm sorry 2 say theY did likewise with ''Selling England by the...''. 2-On a side note neither here but there kind of thing putting records on top of a turntable's dust cover will scratch it and lessen the unit's re selling value. 3- Do love your videos plenty .Keeping on listening...Shema!!!.
Thank you for this kind of review and we need more of those . It is great to know the bad pressings of good and popular albums. Immediatly i was thinking of the very first mono UK Track pressing , the rare one with double laminated cover , of « Are you experienced « , An awfull sounding record, flat , boring , seems to have a blanket on my speakers, (in vg+ condition and washed 4 times on Degritter on heavy mode !) the 1979 US reissue ( of course different tracks list) is a killer sounding pressing and the very first french press on Barclay also . My go to copies …keep up the good work it is always a pleasure to watch your reviews . All the best from Paris .
Merci, monsieur. That's what the channel aims at: finding great inexpensive pressings for all of us to enjoy. I'm studying French at this point in my life (60) and plan to reply in your mother tongue. Thanks for your input
Vinyl will always be my go to. I try collect the original pressings. I mean when you listen to say Let it Bleed compared to later issuers or even the CD there’s no comparison. And Miles Davis sounds awesoMe on vinyl.
i feel it too, let it bleed, maybe the more together songs i like in a rolling stones record being my favorite head goat´sn soup and if it is the first pressing i don´t know but i bought it while visiting my syster in London in a old tower of record sales, it came with a poster, i don´t mind having whatever pressing i bought when i heard the album but i prefer it to new versions as they sound strange and i didn´t spent through out my life a fortune in hi-fi components just to hear more advanced and evolved versions of them that makes my good system sound like my worst system which was already good compared to what they are selling today
My biggest purchase error was the Beatles stereo box set from 2012. Apart from the digital mastering issue, I ended up with the US version pressed by Rainbo. Appalling isn't a strong enough word - like the vinyl was pressed by a semi-comatose wreckless drunk with a personal vendetta. Bloody awful. Unfortunately I was travelling when it shipped and missed the return window. Depressing, really. Anyway, I quite agree with your assessment of the 'Goats Head Soup' remaster. I have an early '80s Japanese pressing that sounds soooooo much better than this travesty. By and large Stones albums have never really been 'audiophile', but there's no excuse for this...
goats head soup is one of my favorite albums and at the time did had a diferent type of production and sounded real good if with a average system, but as you said they don´t have a perfect mainstream sound so audiophiles couldn´t hear them but music enthusiasts are happy with the work, the let it bleed maybe the best sounding lp, on cd it´s all destroyd s it weren´t capable of a good conversion as it is more complicated than usual the mids stand out more than lower and higher frequencies, heartbraker is one of my favorite tracks. Remenber people in the 80´s critising U2 joshua tree sound ,today all say it´s the best and it was .Some do prefer cds as they never had a god turntable or cartridge , i knew a lot of people who only had good sound at home when cds were more cheaper than usual or 1990´s, that is a regular thing to happen ,giood systems were extremally expensive but today even more
67 now, had a lot of early metal and rock and prog on release In early 70s. Company I worked for workers went on strike late 70s. Didn’t have to but got a wedge of cash for my L.P.s! Bought only a few back on C.D. CDs love em! Bloody vinyl, warping. scratching, tuning the disc over! Can’t be bothered!
those things refered i don´t notice them on 60´s bought albums neither today but they come from the store already dirty from factory today , it´s evolution and it exists as an effect used by many bands of the digital era, but i think you´re right not all have to love the detail in sound ,i remenber having a mono reel player with a transistor radio in my room and i was happy with it, maybe happier than today or for sure i was not married yet and still hunting for girls
@@RUfromthe40s From u.k. Yeah seems to be process of youth! Bad stereos, finding girls, scratched vinyl! Good times? I don’t know! Naw, just had a reality flash! Tooo many bad nights!
If you can find a copy of the Canadian A&M Audiophile pressing of Crime of the Century it's a must have. There are two versions which were actually pressed in Japan. One has the gold audiophile logo stamped on the cover and the other version has a gold border on the front cover.
I have first pressings of all Genesis albums bought as they were released (sometimes on the first day of release!) and have never considered them as candidates for Best Audiophile LP of the Year....I bought them for the content.....I make an exception for 'Seconds Out', now this can sound tremendous - my original first pressing still in pristine condition my favourite Genesis - it even sounds good on Qobuz! For me Genesis were a live band first and foremost....I first saw them in 1972. As each studio album was released I noticed the over-production that crept in - I think some of those later albums (up to Duke) are irretrievable whoever they are pressed by!
@@staggerlee6794 Yes, you're right, and a stroke of genius playing Dance on a Volcano leading seamlessly into Los Endos after Cinema Show from SEbtP...what a side number 4 is from Seconds Out. @@rogerwebb7501 Tbh, I am a bigger fan of the Gabriel years than post PG. But 'Trick of the Tail' must have been a great tour. Sadly I was a little too young to go. Yes, I am hoping to go and see Hackett's 'The Lamb' later this year.
@@staggerlee6794 Yes, most people say that about pre vs post Gabriel Genesis....I loved them both- up to Duke when I lost interest. But, I must say the Trick o t Tail tour was really something....some of my friends wouldn't go, and I had a job persuading them to go when what we call the Seconds Out tour came round! Enjoy the Hackett tour....I'm going to Cardiff - re-scheduled because of the rac concrete problem in St David's Hall.
Lucky you! Yes, the early albums are no sonic wonder. At the end of the day, I usually turn to the unremastered cds. My seconds out doesn't sound that good but I find the Abbey Road remaster to be a great purchase. To my ears, of course
Hi 👋 Greetings from New Zealand. I like the cover artwork of the Fleetwood Mac record. The naked guy on the white horse. I have never been a fan of their music. Although i like Tusk from 1979. I have some cds that vary in sound quality. Some are louder than others.
I have Trick of the Tail US first pressing and it sounds great, lots of bottom. The reissues that came out after sound thin. I learned my lesson a long time ago concerning Japanese pressings, outside of a few most sound to thin for my taste. I only disagree with the Stones you showed. I bought the two record set of Goats Head Soup and Tattoo You, they sound pretty good on my system. I also have the US first pressings but I wanted the bonus tracks. My US Supertramp sounds fantastic and US Then Play On also sounds fantastic.
My preferred copy of Crime of the Century is a MoFi. But it's complicated; they apparently cut the record more than once! I have two copies, one says "Ortofon" in the runout grooves, the other doesn’t. The "Ortofon" pressing is superior.
it´s funny because it´s the only Supertramp album i ever bought in 76 i think ,i had just returned from Angola , Africa with a full on civil war. But that is what i always play to compare with the cd version as it´s excelent production vanished ,the sound of guitars is far from the original and everything else seems like they recorded the album in the cheapest studio in this world but no it as a very worked sound in it´s original version, the MOFI thing i´m still to understand what was the work done, does it still has the vibration of the strings in the bloody well right guitar rif? if the original sounds amazing what could be the improvement, i´m still to hear them records in that thing they call a turntable with cartridge from MOFI, why is it related to a old brand of cartridges that used to mean quality assured now it´s the worst assured but i listened to a black S MC cartridge that sounds really good but the thousands of €´s price in it is a stop and the few hours of listening with it is a no go for sure , in the past like if i had 100 years one doesn´t had to worry about the hours of listening just changed the stylus from time to time in years not hours, and i had 7 diferent turntables working in my home at the time now i only have two, one in my listening room and other in my living room
My pocket is not deep enough for the Mofi pressing at this point. Maybe some time in the future, but it's the real UK first pressing (A5/B6) what I'm after now
streams is like hearing FM radio in the 70´s only alone at home the radio D.J. was a company at night in my room as he was at the same time has i was hearing him , at the radio studio, still remenber him saying "it now pause, if you want to record the next three songs"normally litle reel recorders mine was a Grundig
First of all, I believe you ....I had a lot of experiences in the past as a collector. You pay a lot for a 'remastered'- album vinyl and/or cd and you listen and think: "what the hell is the difference?" and to make it worse. The sound is often bad to the version you allready had. I once bought new editions of Captain Beefheart albums from "Scorpio" records. No difference to the cd and "Past and Present" quiet 180 gramm but the sound came probably from digital source, to make it worse they packaged it in PVC-clear outersleeves, wich caused 'misting' on the black vinyl. And these were expensive versions. I am also dissapointed about the lack of 'emotion' on the sundazed 'Safe as Milk' in mono on vinyl...god what a bummer is that. However on the one hand you talk about gear you have at home to play it. But I think an average consumer should be able to come home with a record and to be enjoying the sound. I think if you need machines that are into the thousands to be able to hear 'improvements' of the record that is nonesense. Once I had an average Sansui recordplayer and amp, two AR speakers (midrange pricewise) and I could hear that my old vinyl Byrds version of 5th dimension was muddy sounding, when the boxset from 1990 came out it was for me a revelation. So on just consumer affordable gear I could hear the difference between a bad vinyl and the remaster of the cd. And this is how it should be. But Yes I regret the Beefheart vinyl 180gram repressings, not because of his music of course but because of the bad copies.
i only want to add that in 1990 i bought a record ,a live one and sounded perfect and i read on the back of the cover "directelly recorded into DAT" so i´m not against digital but not like sand thrown to my eyes, check the Dream Syndicate album live at the raji´s the 1990 version if possible, it´s like they are playing in my home, only guitars, drums and voice but i don´t like all songs from this band but some i found them perfect as rock music, maybe 5 or 6 in all their albums, including recent ones
I bought the early edition of another brick in the wall, pressed when companies didn't care about quality control, the pressing wax really noisy, but I put up with it and when CDs came out bought a copy. Not a bad CD version. Several years ago this album was re released on vinyl so I bought a copy. It was bloody awful. Less surface noise but like a bad CD transfer. Flat , lifeless and a total waste of money. I also bought diamond dogs, Bowie, and a large click across side 1 . Changed it twice and each copy had exactly the same fault. I sent it back to the label company, received a very early pressing in the post. Absolutely perfect, quality control in the 60s , 70s, non existant. Modern pressings in this respect are much better. Nothing wrong with digital mastering if done right. Listen to AJA , Steely Dan . A masterpiece. And digital.
JUST NOT LIKE HE USED TO SING IT AS IT IS A COPY OF A COPY OF A COPY ALL CONVERTED SEVERAL TIMES FROM THE ORIGINAL ANALOGUE BUT I DO LOVE VINYL RECORDED FROM DIGITAL MASTERS AT LEAST THEY SOUND BETTER THAN the limited 70´s developed first digital source for home listening the compact disc, each to it´s own if one likes fake and steril sound who am i to say no, i prefer top quality as i was used to in the 70´s, in 1980 when brands decreased a lot the sound quality of components i didn´t heard no one complain and today when i refer to it also seems no one is knowing what am i talking about
It must be a terribly stressful life being a vinyl purist. The only albums i regret buying are the ones that are s**** ,promised but failed to deliver in terms of songwriting and musicianship. All this cobblers about different pressings, speakers corners(?),Japanese v European v US copies, yadda, yadda, yadda. My brain has enough to deal with as it is but of course im missing the point arent i. .... ..interesting video but doesnt really register with me im afraid.
i never knew about that , the pressing that was sold in stores was perfect ,that is imagination of not music lovers but some kind of sound chassers, equalizers were a must have to audiophiles but at the time amplifiers had much better sound so i never felt the need for a equalizer only when in 93 when i started to buy more cds i had to have one so i could correct some fatal flaws, vinyl purist it´s almost a bad word i only like good sound no matter how it asn produced if the playing is correct all is perfect, i remenber a friend i have buying a lot of strange brands components not one from the brand of other and was maybe triple the price of mine but when at my home he used to say ,"i should had bought the same has you", it´s a gamble when people don´t understand specifications and buy whatever they saw in a magazine ,they talk about the better but not how they listened to it if a source of sound,
My late Dad, god bless him, was an electronic engineer. He made his own gear in the 50s. You just can't imagine how our home stereo sounded back in the day for little money. I learnt so much from him and miss him terribly...
There are a few negative comments here. It is well documented what you are talking about. It isn't always just remixing either. In the olden days the pressing machines were steam heated (more consistent) and run by true craftsmen. They knew when a lacquer had past it's best. They knew when temperature was optimal. There are some super nerds that log matrix codes and work out which ones to buy that way. A lot of modern pressings are pressed too hot, this affects definition and often also leads to warping. Also it is arguable that the expertise in actual lacquer production very limited compared to the height of vinyl production.
@@matthewtaylor7355 Pressings didn't often sound crap, not based on percentage produced. Even most sub branded stuff sounded decent. MFP etc. If the record is cut to not hold more than 6 trks per side. There were of course a percentage of bad pressings back in the day based on either reused vinyl or high 2nd/3rd/4th generation laquers. Hence the matrix codes being important. The difference might be how the vinyl has aged/been stored or cared for. 3 out of 5 reissues I have purchased online have been warped and didn't track properly from first to last track. There were are lot of vinyl formulations that have hardened over time.
@@matthewtaylor7355 it´s the reverse , now sounds like they didn´t knew how to play as we don´t hear them just a type of compacted sounds and if you have good hear and know how they sounded ,you´ll find them under layers of garbage .You don´t really know what you´re missing and today turntables if not around 14.000€ will never sound like a 90´s 100€ ,new technics turntable

A small point perhaps, but the Trick of the Tail LP you have there isn't a first pressing. It's a second press with catalogue RJ-7305 rather than the first press which was RJ-7082. Perhaps to the ears of the reviewers the RJ-7082 press was better? It's possible....
I actually had a first press TOTT (U.S.), and I found it a bit too soft focused. I bought it for my first Hi Fi system. Compared to the production on Lamb and the earlier works, I didn't like it. The music was terrific, though-some of their best playing.

I have always found that progressive bands like Genesis and Supertramp always sound much better on cd, especially if you have a good system with a good dac.
that´s funny in cd half of the sound quality of the original records isn´t there so you hear to maybe 50% of the music and that´s fine ,each to it´s own, and no matter if you have the best cd player in the world as the problem is in the source , first home digital format from the 70´s when analogue was at 100% of it´s quality, don´t get me wrong some cds from the 90´s or even 80´s sound very good but those examples are the worst found in CD
@@RUfromthe40sAre you claiming that 50% of the music is lost on a cd? If so, that is completely wrong. A cd sounds much more like a master tape than an lp does. The lp format changes the sound significantly. Some people enjoy the change, however.

Putting aside price of the lp's and the equipment, you can get a good vinyl set-up (turntable/cartridge/phono stage) that rivals or beats even a good cd transport/dac combo. However, it costs a lot more money.

Thanks a lot. That's really encouraging and keeps me going. You've made my day and rekindled my self-esteem.
For my money Crime Of The Century is a perfect album. Supertramp did an excellent job on it. No filler and every song is outstanding. I love the album to death. I think the master tape is awesome so that you can hear every detail when the vinyl pressing is well done.

I wouldn't downright rely on people who have a horse in this race. They are biased.
i never played that record isn´t quality music allthough i respect others taste as some also like George Michael or Celine Dion or Lady Gaga, the movie was okay but i really don´t like many madona songs, i remenber hearing Borderline or...i really don´t remenber the name but it´s one of those songs that when you return home after work they use to play them in the radio , i do love the discussion in the begining of Reservoir Dogs about like a virgin , spot on
@@RUfromthe40s The Madonna tracks were very well engineered and the vinyl also usually top notch.
Rock on!
one can always sale drugs and by the best there is, the politics rape our system stilling money from our pockets why not us making money illegally as we leaRN WITH THE BEST
i don´t get it the cd doesn´t have part of the LP sound so it´s one of those that sound not like the music was when released, kind of steril sound,
We should always remember, that most remasters and remixes, are done purely to lengthen the life of product, and play into the hands of audiophiles.
I agree to some extent. Most digitally sourced vinyl is atrocious. But some remasters are worth the extra penny
Fleetwood Mac Then Play On riverboat reprise label sounds amazing 🙂

Hi from Wales. As you say it’s a hit and miss with vinyl records. Some sound great, some not so.
Agreed
Most of the times. Og Stones are usually to die for!
Remenber people in the 80´s critising U2 joshua tree sound ,today all say it´s the best and it was .Some do prefer cds as they never had a god turntable or cartridge , i knew a lot of people who only had good sound at home when cds were more cheaper than usual or 1990´s, that is a regular thing to happen ,giood systems were extremally expensive but today even more
Agreed. But you did get the 2014 mono reissues, I hope... That's a totally different story

If you can find a copy of the Canadian A&M Audiophile pressing of Crime of the Century it's a must have. There are two versions which were actually pressed in Japan. One has the gold audiophile logo stamped on the cover and the other version has a gold border on the front cover.
Mmmm tempting...
I was thinking when watching this video how every song on 'Trick of the Tail' sounds much better live than on the studio album.
@@staggerlee6794 Yes, you're right, and a stroke of genius playing Dance on a Volcano leading seamlessly into Los Endos after Cinema Show from SEbtP...what a side number 4 is from Seconds Out.

Mmmm I think Ill keep an eye out on the us then play on. It's a great album
Original copies are still the best..they are just putting them out.... not carrying how it sounds
Agreed

Maybe some time in the future, but it's the real UK first pressing (A5/B6) what I'm after now
Mofis are hit and miss. Too expensive to gamble
Interesting!
Buying vinyl records these days is often hit or miss, and more “miss” probably, but maybe this also counts for cd’s or streams.
streams is like hearing FM radio in the 70´s only alone at home the radio D.J. was a company at night in my room as he was at the same time has i was hearing him , at the radio studio, still remenber him saying "it now pause, if you want to record the next three songs"normally litle reel recorders mine was a Grundig
That "Crime of the Century" doesn't look like a first pressing. On early copies the label sparkles, almost holographic looking.
Yes, the Allen pressing is not a first pressing. Couldn't lay my hands on a real A5/B5-6 uk as of yet. I'll report when I do
First of all, I believe you ....I had a lot of experiences in the past as a collector. You pay a lot for a 'remastered'- album vinyl and/or cd and you listen and think: "what the hell is the difference?" and
to make it worse.
Once I had an average Sansui recordplayer and amp, two AR speakers (midrange pricewise) and I could hear that my old vinyl Byrds version of 5th dimension was muddy sounding, when the
boxset from 1990 came out it was for me a revelation.
That is most often the case. But a nagaoka mp110 or a AT95 are affordable and sound really good if you can't afford the big boys
JUST NOT LIKE HE USED TO SING IT AS IT IS A COPY OF A COPY OF A COPY ALL CONVERTED SEVERAL TIMES FROM THE ORIGINAL ANALOGUE BUT I DO LOVE VINYL RECORDED FROM DIGITAL MASTERS AT LEAST THEY SOUND BETTER THAN the limited 70´s developed first digital source for home listening the compact disc, each to it´s own if one likes fake and steril sound who am i to say no, i prefer top quality as i was used to in the 70´s, in 1980 when brands decreased a lot the sound quality of components i didn´t heard no one complain and today when i refer to it also seems no one is knowing what am i talking about
I prefer Aja on vinyl, but the Hoffman mastered cd is great. It's a case by case scenario, there are no hard and fast rules, imo
Maybe it’s me but 90% of the time I buy a remix and read how much better it is than the original, and I can’t tell the difference.
i never knew about that , the pressing that was sold in stores was perfect ,that is imagination of not music lovers but some kind of sound chassers, equalizers were a must have to audiophiles but at the time amplifiers had much better sound so i never felt the need for a equalizer only when in 93 when i started to buy more cds i had to have one so i could correct some fatal flaws, vinyl purist it´s almost a bad word i only like good sound no matter how it asn produced if the playing is correct all is perfect, i remenber a friend i have buying a lot of strange brands components not one from the brand of other and was maybe triple the price of mine but when at my home he used to say ,"i should had bought the same has you", it´s a gamble when people don´t understand specifications and buy whatever they saw in a magazine ,they talk about the better but not how they listened to it if a source of sound,
The pain and the pleasure...
That's because most of the times the reissue sounds much worse.
Pressings often sounded crap in the golden days... Some modern pressing sound xcellent

The only remix I tolerate is Steven Wilson's Aqualung
@@obre9523 i heard his opinion about the new release in cd a few years ago ,he seems fried at a brain level as if the record that i have, wouldn´t sounded like that ,they were never know, so he doesn´t like the fact of becoming a known musician, it´s sad how people use drugs till they don´t remenber who they were, if the first record didn´t sound fantastic no second record would have been released, Aqualung one of the best records made , sounds bad to it´s composer ,hum....really don´t know what to say, the cd is a pervertion of what was done in early 70´s
‘alright’? 😂
???
I have original UK pressings of both TOTT and COTC.....and both are stunning in all respects.
The one thing both albums do not lack is bass in my opinion.
Not sure what you are chasing tbh ..
The Allen pressing of COTC is not a uk first pressing. I'm sure that the OG produced by Ken Scott must sound fantastic. I'm after one myself. Disagree on Genesis. To me, the bass in the German pressing is scrumptious
Your room is too echoey. Might be why. Get some room treatment!
It was an issue with the microphone. I think it is sorted out now. Check my latest video.
God video. But I really really don't hope this is you'r listening room... horrible aucustic... waaaaaaay to much feedback in the rom.. like ecco... No wonder the vinyls sounds bad
It was an issue with the microphone that I've finally managed to sort out. Check my latest video
The digital revolution Ruined the music recording industry, Extremely sterile all mid-range no dynamics and Have spoiled the young ones with their bullshit attitudes for no tolerance for "noisy vinyl" , Absolutely No appreciation for the warmth of clicks and pops ... children 🙄
yes ,i did notice that after buying a new expensive amplifier at the time (A-91D from Pioneer)that i felt like if i had been stolen and cds even started to sound worst , Steril is the perfect adjectif as my SA-9800 from Pioneer seem to sound not just better but good and the new one, ridiculous also the change in quality in all brands after 1979 made the diference huge for the worst , even now i´m changing a lot of components at home and put to work a Technics SL-3100 (77)a HH Scott amplifier from (77)said to be professional just because it as handles but with some SB-F3 from Technics that also sounded incredible with before 1980 amplifiers ,i connect them while makin`changes in my listening room, i am amazed by this improvised system, it sounds amazing. The cds have levels of each track in a song all wrong ,the mixing was destroyd and one can have the best cd player in the world that it helps but putting wings on a pig doesn´t make it fly, so LP´s are my favorite source as home audio, cds i have them but some don´t even played them once, those that one bought thinking cds would be a improvement but i could not be more wrong and at start i blame the cd player that it was a Pioneer PD-7100, but still looks new with heavy use and a Rega planet that i bought because all were saying it was amazing good but now either than not working looks like it was kicked around and the 7100 seems still new and was a heavy used cd player and the DAC in it is still very good today for my surprise and the laser unit 400€ new and stoped being made in 2016 , i informed myself at the time not really needing one yet, and works perfect ,the Rega is at a corner of a room where i have my hi-fi component colection starting in the 50´s that there were incredible good sounding amplifiers and speakers, the all sound system it existed in a big old theatre i asked for it when destroying that amazing room where the last movie i saw was" alien the 8th passenger" the name in portuguses translated to english as most of the movies have diferent names when released in Portugal, the most ridiculous was that teen movie" say anything ",in Portuguese "say nothing" no one today understands the referencies made in sitcoms and movies to that teen movie as no one knows why a guy puts a portable radio on top of the head while raining, and was a Peter Gabriel song from "So"originally, the movie never was played in theaters or the new and modern litle film rooms or cinemas or whatever, no longer big tall rooms with a giant screen, the system that had great sound was going to the garbage when i went there to bring it home , some looked at me like i was taking trash to my home, today gives sound to my home saloon that´s where party´s used to happen as it was so big (even as doors to divide it in two and very nice window framed doors with the ceiling covered in a wood so nice but no one knows what it is as it came from africa and the species were yet to be studied when they destroyd entire forests in Africa
They are not to blame, methinks. They just weren't raised on vinyl like we did. You've got to learn to disregard clicks and pops, but it takes time!
@@obre9523 I am 65, raised with Vinyl and still prefer CD. Of course there are bad CDs, but thats not due to digital recording or due to CD (which is very superior to Vinyl), its due to bad mastering. But there are also extremely good CDs which exceeds ALL Vinyls. Its a matter of fact the CD is superior to Vinyl. Actually i own the first german Vinyl from Trick of a tail and also the first CD - i like both. Both with big bass and good sound.
@@RUfromthe40sHow is this percentage calculated? I hope you are not going to tell us that ”since digital is sampled it only contains part of the music” or something to that effect.
I agree with Genesis first four albums. The Austrian DADC CDs are fantastic. Disagree on Supertramp.
Some early cds sound great, but vinyl usually trumps them
Sounds like you need your ears waxing 😅
Maybe...
maybe the reverse ,no?i normally clean my ears of wax
After The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, it became the Phil Collins Band.
I'd say after Steve Hackett left, the two albums after Gabriel were both good. ...And Then There Were Three, started the move to mainstream and I started to lose interest.
@@vordman and then there was ...is a early compilation of recordings done before any LP, but all said and done i do agree with you and having bought Duke when released ,only after 30 years i started to enjoy it , and there was a song in a early 80´s LP "home by the sea" that i liked but wasn´t mine the LP with their hit "Ilegall Alien" and i don´t know in what reel i recorded it ,only asked the cd from a friend and the keyboard part on the refrain was good sounding to me but now they changed that part in the cds only it was a type of sound heard at the time in several bands ,even considered alternative ones that in the 80´s were the most looked after bands ,belonged all to independent labels, only shows how ridiculous are cd versions of old lp´s ,not equal because they felt like to changed it, but it sounded bad to me not the same song, and "the lamb lies down on broadway" wasn´t love at first listening ,maybe it made more sense to English listeners but after a period of 6 monthes i started to hear it a lot
@@RUfromthe40s Interesting, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is probably my favourite Genesis album (actually, probably a draw with Foxtrot). It's often said the 2nd disc doesn't have the quality of Disc 1 but I'm not so sure, maybe just takes a few more listens.
@@vordman it´s diferent i never compred it with others and if it´s only more of the same also can be dull , Peter Gabriel didn´t cease to create new music and new improved sound , he´s plays live doble LP is fantastic in my opinion but each to it´s own as i said earlier
He is talking about the pressing which was his disappointment. Not your silly taste in music...
Buying vinyl records in 2024. It's like stopping taking your car and returning only with horses as transport only
Or throwing away cutlery ,and using chopsticks for everything.
why the 7.0L V8 engines weren´t powerfull enought with 400 h.p. and gasoline as it needed 100 octanes one , those were the days, so what you would by , cds is like returning to 8-track cartridges or saphire needles as the turntables today are at 50´s level, the worst ones at the time, the changing speed with our own hands makes them change speed each time you use them as it is exposed to the elements and now by miracle in LaLaLaLand no longer exists dust , but in my country Portugal we still have it and a lot and the 50 years delay against other nmore evolved countries we only benefit to have good food and wine not that things people by in supermarkets today as Bread .One time i was taking breakfast with a dutch friend and he asked me what were those cakes, "it´s only Bread", "you´re kidding me" he said
Putting aside price of the lp's and the equipment, you can get a good vinyl set-up (turntable/cartridge/phono stage) that rivals or beats even a good cd transport/dac combo. However, it costs a lot more money.
A nice ride on a thoroughbred can be a unique experience!
Don't tell Asian people...
Huge mistake if you buy a Ted Nugent record
why
@davidmartin1455 because this dude doesn't like pro-america politics, and forgets this should be about music. I loved Ted Nugent back when I was a liberal nutjob, and I love him now
@@dawnpatrol700 i hear him but never loved him ,maybe too much facial hair for my taste, and if one doesn´t listen to music from people we wouldn´t like we would be very limited, i love socialism as a theory but the parties socialist ones destroyd the world in the last 5 decades, that´s why the re-birth of extreme right wing parties is the new thing
Please, no politics. This is a music channel. Meant to have fun. Politics is a pretty personal thing
No politics, faz favor. Let's stick to music: cd and vinyl pressings. That's what the channel is meant for.
